Audigy/MIDI Synth discrepencies with Hardware Accelerat
Hello all, I have a little bit of a problem with my SB Audigy and my Logitech Z-540 speakers. I have a bit of a problem with hardware acceleration it seems. I mainly use this computer for gaming, and I've noticed that I'll hear a sort of popping at times coming from my left speakers while playing. Upon numerous Google searches, I've come to no avail as to what may be the cause of this problem.
However, my speakers are properly set up, my drivers are all up to date as well as the software. I've found two things rectify my issue (but at undesirable consequence):
. I mute the MIDI Synth through volume controls, however this is inconvenient because I play some games that utilize MIDI for music (Blood, Doom, etc.).
2. I set the hardware acceleration to "Basic", but that in turn disables my EAX and other features.
Would anyone know what might be causing this issue of mine? Any tips, or any help whatsoever would be greatly appreciated; this has been a most vexing issue for me.
Thanks,
Veldrin
Its a hardware mixer, wich is using your RAM for storing sounds. You have two synths with hardware support. And on the audigy, there is an additinal software mixer, too. (dont know if the x-fi supports it, too)
In Vista there you have to download a little tool to set the hardware synth as default. search function

Does anyone know if the Audigy 2 NX is capable of hardware MIDI synth? Right now MIDIs sound pretty bad on my laptop, and I compose music so it would be helpful to have MIDI quality on my laptop be somewhat comparable to the quality on my desktop PC (which has an Audigy ).
Thanks...I don't understand. First of all, the MIDI inputs work with the XP drivers (but the sound card doesn't), so I know the hardware is able to be seen by the software. I understand that MS removed MIDI support from the OS, but shouldn't the drivers recognize the ports on the card and use them? I also believe that the MIDI ports worked under Vista when I first did the upgrade. They only stopped working when I upgraded the mother board and CPU in the PC. So what gives?Larry

X-Fi Midi Synth Reverb and Chorus Controller Is
I bought an X-Fi a couple of weeks ago, and I soon realized that midi effects controllers cc9 and cc93 (reverb and chorus) didn't work with the X-Fi hardware synths. I called CL Technical support about this and this is the response I got:
"I have spoken with our testers who say that the CC9-Reverb and CC93-Chorus amounts are set in theSF2 file. That value is typically set to hit 20% at maximum CC data entry (27). To work aroundthis, you will need to use NRPNs to set the amount to a greater level, or edit the SF2 contentitself. Please let me know if this information hel
ps.
No, it doesn't help, reverb and chorus effects in midi files are set with midi controllers #9 and #93, this is true of virtually every midi file available on the internet, including commercial midi files. CL's testers are wrong. SF2 files have embedded minimum amounts of reverb and chorus for certain patches, midi song files customize the amounts of reverb and chorus with controllers cc9 and cc93 to suit each particular song, and even change it during the song. Adding NRPN's involves editing the midi file by calculating the MSB and LSB for each desired value and adding four controllers for every channel of every song every time you want a change in the effects. Controller cc9 and cc93 have control sliders or knobs in every major audio/midi multitrack program and these require no editing. A midi synth that ignores this loses much of its realism, and this just isn't acceptable for those of us who make serious use of midi song files. I have several thousand midi files and it would take months or even years to edit them all. This is a bug that may only affect a small percentage of X-Fi users, but for those it affects, it's a major bug. From the response I received from tech support, it appears that they aren't planning to do anything about it, so I thought I would publicize the issue here and see if I can't change their minds. I drove a 20 mile round trip and paid $40 for my X-Fi and I've had to pull it out of my computer and put my Audigy back in. I'm not a happy camper at this point, but if CL is going to fix the issue, I'm willing to wait for a while because I think thye X-Fi is worth it.mriev wrote:
Maxing everything was the first thing I tried, and no go. Still so little reverb it was hard to tell if it was working, and no detectable chorus. I even went back with Vienna 2.4 and checked my soundfont again, and all was as it should be.
Putting together a brand new sound card is a major undertaking and it's understandable if something gets missed here and there, especially as most of the designers and testers probably aren't serious musicians. It's easy to see how this one could slip past, especially if they were using Soundfonts that have reverb and chorus programmed in to some of the instruments. Everything works fine until you start varying cc9 and cc92 and nothing happens. I haven't checked because I removed the X-Fi and put my Audigy back in, but it's a good bet that none of the midi effect controllers work properly. This is a relati'vely minor issue for most users, but for serious musicians who use midi, it's major. However, I'm sure CL will fix the problem as soon as possible. I just hope it doesn't take too long because the X-Fi is a really, really good sounding card, except for this one problem.
Gi've the X-Fi another try. I had these same issues at first but now cc9 and cc92 work in Sonar4.
These controls work, its just that the reverb is very low and the chorus has to be activated. In the effect editor choose the amphitheater preset as oppose to the default for reverb as it is the most audible.
follow these steps:
. choose creation mode
2. enable EAX effects and set to max
3. select amphitheater preset for reverb
4. activate the 5 bus buttons for chorus in master aux effects box (Front L\R, ect)
step 4 should work best for stereo setup
This should do it. -
IMac mid 2010 slow with 10.9
Hi,
My 2010 imac (i5, 4G mem) has been pretty slow since mavericks - the system seems slow and unresponsive with even simple operations seeming sluggish (my 8yr old core 2 duo laptop with 10.6 was way more responsive).
I came across the thread Re: iMac mid 2010 slow with 10.9 and hoped I might be able to get some advice.
I have previously reinstalled the system from fresh to see if this would help - and while it did for a while it seems to have become slow again.
I tried starting in safe mode and it didn't seem very different. Some operations seemed slower and the window redrawing was really choppy and a bit weird (not sure if this is usual in safe mode?)
I noticed that while I was running EtreCheck and perhaps also Diskutility just now (after running the imac in safemode and then restarting it) that the Finder kept restarting. All the icons would vanish and then reload in the finder window and on the desktop. I haven't seen this before.
I have installed and run EtreCheck and the results are below. If anyone could give some advice that would be really appreciated. Thanks

thankyou for helping. I think I have managed to follow both steps below. The errors that are occurring related directly to the finder crashing - I am not sure if this is related to the general slowness but it would be great to fix.
Thanks

GM MIDI Synth other than QuickTime?
Hi~ guys~
I'm just wondering
if we can find any GM MIDI Synths other than QuickTime synth to use in Logic Pro 8.
(not the external hardware synths)
if there are some,,, could you let me know what they are??
thanks~You can use SoundFont libraries (they are free).
Search for Airfont (76Mb), FluidR3 (141.5Mb), SGM-180 (175Mb).
Download them (or their updated versions), uncompress with SFarkXT (http://melodymachine.com/) and place them in:
/Library/Audio/Sounds/Banks
Then you will be able to choose which one to use as a default QuickTime synth or to use into Logic.
cheers

Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Platinum with Vista 64
0Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Platinum with Vista 64Y Hi
I'm considering buying a Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Platinum (with front panel) off ebay, but first I'd like to know if certain features will be compatible with my system. I'm running Vista Home Basic 64bit (hardware is an Asus P5Q-E, Q6600, 2GB of RAM, ATI Radeon HD4850, etc). I'll be using this card for my PC's 5. surround sound system (using the stereo outputs), and more importantly, recording some music. I want to achieve this by using the optical S/PDIF port, as my bass guitar effects board has an S/PDIF output and I've got an S/PDIF cable. I'd also like to use the Line In and Mic inputs. The driver before the latest one for this card said that there was no S/PDIF passthrough for Vista. Has the latest driver got everything I need fixed, so I can just plug it in, install the drivers and then be happily recording through these three inputs?
Thanks for the help?
Message Edited by SuperMaximo on 05-22-2009 2:4 [email protected]I am brand new to this message system but I am so desperate for help I thought I would try it. After reading lots of comments I find that my problem may be more the rule than the exception. I have an Audigy @ Platinum card and all I ever get from it is crackling and popping. I have been around and around with Creative support but nothing they tell me results in a fix. I am so disgusted at this point that I am ready to just trash the whole thing. I have gone through the BIOS and checked so many settings its a shame. Still crackling and popping. I NEED SPECIFIC ANSWERS FROM SOMEBODY...not just the generic flip the wingle wangle to port xyz and move this to that. here has got to be an answer to this maddening problem. The other thing is that now I can't get my MIDI keyboard to play back. I must have turned something off in the set up process but now I have no idea what to do.
If anyone has any solid answers for me PLEASE come forward with them before I kill someone! -
Why is my Hardware Accelerate Composition, Layer, and Footage Panels check box disabled
Hello anyone!
I have all the requirements to meet Adobe's standards for GPU requirements, but this check box (Hardware Accelerate Composition, Layer, and Footage Panels)[Edit>Preferences>Display] is disabled for me, why? Do I need to worry about this setting? Does it really matter? Any information on this topic would be helpful. Thanks in adavance for your feedback.

Feature support levels
There are three tiers or levels, from lowest to highest requirements, of support:
Level 1: For OpenGL SwapBuffer:
This level simply requires a GPU that can do OpenGL 1.5, or greater, with Shader Model 3.0, or greater. Most ATI and NVIDIA cards, and the Intel HD Graphics 3000 chipset (available in the MacBook Air, Mac Mini, various Windows machines, etc.) and 4000 (Windows only at this time) are supported. If your GPU does not support these requirements, software OS blitting like CS5.5 occurs, and there are improvements for software blitting in After Effects CS6, as well.
Level 2: For Fast Draft previews, Hardware BlitPipe, and Cartoon GPU acceleration:
Includes Level 1 features. This level requires OpenGL 2.0, or greater (with Shader Model 4.0, or greater, on Windows), and 256 MB, or greater, of texture memory. Most ATI and NVIDIA cards released in the past five years, plus the Intel HD Graphics 3000/4000, support this level.
If your GPU does not support these requirements, these features will be disabled:
Fast Draft mode
The "Hardware Accelerate Composition, Layer, and Footage Panels" preference.
The Cartoon effect's "Use OpenGL When Available" option (the Cartoon effect then runs on the CPU).
Level 3: For Ray-traced 3D rendering on the GPU:
Includes Level 1 & 2 features (for machines with attached monitors). This level requires a supported NVIDIA GPU and 512 MB, or greater, of texture memory. For a current list of supported GPUs, see the Adobe website.Well, you should be concerned that it isn't available - there is still some configuration issue with your graphics card - but you can live without it most of the time.

Hi,
I have audigy zs 2. I'm using Nuendo as midi master and I'm trying to sync other software to its midi clock.
There are 2 issues:
-I cannot seem to be able to transmit midi clock and mtc through the standard audigy midi port
-Using Midi Yoke ports causes the tempo to fluctuate
When setting up Nuendo to send sync messages through the "SB Audigy 2 ZS Midi IO [B800]" port
Other software does not pick up these messages and will not sync.
So it seems this port does not support this.
When using one of the Midi Yoke ports (Virtual midi cable), the following happens.
Pressing play on Nuendo will start a sync with Vaz or Guitarrig. You see they start to play.
However, the tempo on the slave program is erratic and fluctuates like hell. Especially when the slave has a delay synched, it cause audio click due to the constant corrections that need to be made to adjust to the fluctuating speed.
If master tempo is 3 BPM, the slave will have speeds of 30-36, changing some 0 times each second.
I think this latter issue with the fluctuating speed, might be due to the (outdated?) Midi Yoke driver.
But the fact that I can't send midi clock through the standard SB midi port, is worrying me more.
I get the same results when I use another sequencer as master.
It doesn't seem to matter what slave software is used, they all exhibit this erratic tempo behavior.
- So, what causes these tempo fluctuations and what should I do to stabilize that?
- If the standard Audigy midi port IS capable of sending sync messages, then how should I configure it (and where). And, once correctly set up, will my tempo be constant?
If there are no solutions, then I'm sure there are workarounds.
Thanks.
AlexAlex,
I would say give it time, there may not be many users that have used the particular applications you have, that could help.
If you don't get a response, then it may be worth sending a mail to Customer Support, to log the problem and see if they can advise anything. We don't test every third party application out there, so they may not be able to advise on specific applications you're using.

Hardware Accelerate Composition, Layer, and Footage Panels - optimize
Hello.
The AE preference for "Hardware Accelerate Composition, Layer, and Footage Panels" makes my deep compositions workable - for a limited time, and then simple selection tasks slow down substantially, as if I had turned this checkbox off. What can I upgrade to have more "fast time" with After Effects? Thanks for any insight into how to make my system work. Also, this may be my last Mac.... Is anyone out there able to run hundreds or thousands of layers in After Effects on a PC without having simple select tasks slow down?
• simple selection task = "select all" in a single open composition with 10 layers or with 400 layers, although only in a project which contains deep compositions.
• This slowdown exhibits with or without caps lock enabled
• This slowdown exhibits before and after purge all
• CC, CC 2014 latest update | Mac OS 10.8.5 | MacPro5,1 | 2 x 2.66 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon | 96 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 ECC | 3 separate Mercury Accelsior > 500 MB/s read/write for System & Apps, Projects & Media and Cache | NVIDIA Quadro 4000 2048 MB | CUDA Driver: latest update | Wacom Intuos 5 | LED Cinema Display | Dell 2407WFPYou are using to graphics cards of different model? Audigy 2 ZS: Channels wrong - hardware defe
I have my Audigy 2 ZS connected with my Surround-receiver (5.) via analog (3 cables: 2xchinch on 3,5 mm miniplug). The soundcard transfers four channels to lineout 2 and 3 (correct) but there is a big problem at lineout . The white cinch-end of lineout plays Subwoofer AND Center, while the red end doesnt transfer any channel at all.
I checked multiple cables already and it didnt help. The software should be also setted up correctly (5.).
So, can this be a hardware defect and I cant do anything? Or could a reinstall of the software maybe help?
Thanks already,greets,

HD/SSD with hardware encryption
Dear everyone!
I have a MacBook Pro 13" late 2009. I work on a corporate environment and security is top priority. I would like to know options and recommendations for SSD or Hard Disks with HARDWARE ENCRYPTION that will work with this notebook. I don't want to put extra work on the CPU for encryption.
I assume that doing this will allow me to still backup my notebook at home with Time Machine. By the way, how can I encrypt my backup?
Thanks everyone in advance,
Luis. The only ones I know of are the Samsung units - rumored to go consumer mid to late 2009.

In terms of encrypting your backup drive you can use something like PGP. It's software based of course. -
MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012) freeze with Yosemite
After installing the OS X Yosemite my MBP Retina starts freezing due to graphic problems. The only option is to restart the Mac

Can anyone recommend a portable USB 3.0 drive with hardware encryption, compatible with OSX Mountain Lion and Windows 7. I need it for my MacBook Pro 13”, 2012, running Mountain Lion & Windows 7 Ultimate - BootCamp. I’ve heard that the Buffalo MiniStation Encryption does not work with OSX, is that true..? I'd like it to work with both operating systems, using the built in hardware encryption. Thanks

How do I create multiple midi tracks each with separate external synthesizer sound
Mac Pro OS 10.10.2, Logic Pro 10.1.1, FireFace 800 (updated), Roland XP-30 synthesizer/keyboard, Mackie mixer.
XP-30 analog output to Mackie, FireFace monitor to FireFace main inputs and FireFace out to Mackie.
What I can't get to work: Sound output for monitoring as I record on each of several midi tracks, each with access to my banks/programs.
Logic automatically set up the multi-instrument and created 16 tracks, visible in the mixer window. I have entered custom banks for the XP-30 and they are working.
Mt problem is two parts. First, my last experience was with Logic Pro 7 way back.
Problem two is that when I create midi tracks (except for the first one I created on channel 1) by control-clicking on one of the tracks in the mixer window I get no sound for monitoring. I can see the green monitor indicator for the track shows midi data incoming. I just can't hear it. It's as if there is no designated output. I have checked audio preferences and see the FireFace as input and output device. If i change the channel to channel 1, I get the sound, but then I have two tracks on channel 1 which doesn't work for designating unique sounds to each track.
I can select "All" for channel and get monitored sound on several tracks; however, they then all play the same sound, of course.
i can create midi tracks (either instrument or external) using the plus icon, but no matter how i set them up that way, they do not allow me access to my banks/programs.
In logic Pro 7 it was no problem creating multiple midi tracks, each with a different sound assigned to it. In Logic Pro 10, I am baffled regarding how to accomplish this and get it all to work as simply and nicely as I was able to with #7.
Make sense? Can anyone help?
ThanksI have it set to Performance mode which according to the owners manual: "This mode makes the XP-30 function as a multitimbral sound
source, and Performance settings can be modified. If you’re
using an external MIDI device to control the XP-30 in this
mode, it will function as a multitimbral sound source."
