Audigy SE bulk & Dolby surro

Hello everyone.
I have a soundblaster li've! 5. digital and a set of Creative 500 5. analogue speakers.
I'm looking to buy an Audigy SE bulk at a very low price but I would like to know if the card can do hardware dolby digital decoding so I can get better sound from my analogue speakers than I do now.
This is a rather mixed up subject for me.
My soundblaster does do AC3 decoding I think so I can hear movies with AC3 stream but I can't get the surround effect I think I should be getting.
Will I be able to get true surround sound from movies with Dolby digital sound with an Audigy SE bulk please?
Thank you.

Reading arround it does look like the Soundblaster Li've 5. does support AC3 decoding on the card which is more than what the Audigy SE has.
The Audigy SE does not support any Dolby Digital/DTS decoding. If you want those features from a new card you need to look to an Audigy 2 Value or above for Dolby Digital and Dolby Digital EX decoding (or Audigy 2 ZS and above for DTS decoding as well).

• Audigy 2 NX Dolby Digital Probl

Ive read through the stickys and most nx posts and i just dont understand why the dolby digital light wont illuminate on my audigy 2 nx.
Im running logitech z-680's and have tried 6ch direct, optical, and coax in an attempt to get the dolby digital enabled. Ive been on the device control and selected the S/PDIF passthrough, all the 96khz, 48khz, and 44. khz options and it just wont work !
Theres also something weird in my speaker settings on the creative software, whereby i try and select digital output only whilst my speaker config is 5. then it selects digital output only and the speakers alwasys change back to 2. !!!!! It's extremely annoying.
The only way i've heard tru dolby digital is through my ps2 and it is awesome, i would like to hear it through my pc, so a solution would be greatly appreciated. Any Ideas ?
Simo

There're many other people which have the same problem. I have it too, of course.
I have tried the test mode and was able to do all the steps described, but at the end it just goes back to flashing like before. I bought the device in January 2004 and it just now will not power up.
I think I would never buy any creative product again, because the products are almost bugged and the customer service is at zero level.

• Audigy Platinum gives Dolby Pro Logic, but not Dolby Digital with

I'm trying to get my Audigy Platinum (the original) to output dolby digital over the SPDIF output as a bitstream instead of PCM.
I've tried everything I've read on the forums and elsewhere (that's how I got it to the point of working this far).
Stereo playing wav files etc is ok.
Playing a DVD thru Windows media player gives surround, but in Dolby ProLogic, not DD.
Playing a DVD with PowerDVD gives no sound via digital
Playing a DVD via Video Lan Player (VLC) gives either no sound or stereo via digital.
Ultimate goal here is to play HD content (Transport Streams recorded from HD cable box) with the Dolby 5. soundtrack.
Is the Audigy going to work here or do I need to move to another solution like Turtle Beach Dolby Digital Li've?
Thanks,
Doug

I Kind of have to give in to that. However if the bitrate is to low, any decent receiver won't give you anything but Dolby prologic II
How can you kind of agree and then repeat the same incorrect statement you did before ?
If the audio track has 5.1, it doesn't matter how low the bitrate is, one should expect to get 5.1 from the receiver.
You are of course correct about the superior quality of audio from a blu-ray disc, it is however fairly meaningless if you can't actually tell the difference which a large percentage of the population can't.
Likewise, even if you are able to tell the difference, one may not wish to invest the sort of money it requires to be able to hear that difference.
And also similarly, one may feel that the benefit of not having to leave your home to get the blu-ray disc, not having to organise and store the disc or return it later and not having to pay through the nose for it, all outweigh any benefit a small and often undetectable improvement in quality might make.
Horses for courses, if you want your improved quality thyen consider another device, if you want ease of use, an intuitive user experience and instant gratification, then the Apple TV is ideal.

• Audigy 2 ZS - Dolby Digi

When is the DDL capable driver for the audigy?s (Audigy 2 ZS btw) is coming out ?
I REALLY, REALLY want it and need it... Is there any idea about how much $$ creative will be asking for?
Thanks in advance.

Basicly it means that Creative are cheap?**bleep** since they always crippled theyr soundcards not to support it. Daniel_K could activate DDL support with the existing driver of Audigy and x-fi cards ;-) but he was forced to remove the "patch" because Creative didnt pay the fee for theyr cards to support it.

Not a fair statement. The fact is:
When you bought the integrated motherboard that has DDL, part of the price you paid?is for?the DDL royalty.
When you bought any of the existing Creative sound cards (all of which do not have DDL bundled in the package), the price do not include the DDL royalty.

freeman7,
It's normal if you're using Digital connection. The audio test file from the software is not an AC3 signal. You can find the explaination in this Knowledgebase article SID576.

• Audigy SE: Dolby Li

I am looking for a cheap sound card that supports 5., and the Audigy SE caught my eye. I had good experiences with Creative in the past, so I'm leaning twoard getting it. But one of my most-played games supports surround only in Dolby Li've mode. Does the Audigy SE support Dolby Li've, and if not what are some cheap ($30-$40) alternati'ves that do?
Thank you.

The Dolby Digital Li've is not encoded in the game. It is just a way to send 5. channels via SPDIF to a digital receiver. If you have an analog 5. PC speaker system, then you don't need DDL (you don't have a digital input). You just need to hook up the analog outputs to your speaker system. And let know windows about that That guy has in the description that is NOT an Atari Employee. Maybe he is thinking that you have an XBOX - that one has only stereo analog out and DDL over digital conection. Now, I don't know if the game itself has surround sound - should be an option on sound menu. That's another problem...Message Edited by SoNic2367 on 04-02-200609:24 PM

• Audigy 2 ZS bulk vs. Audigy 4 b

After sending my broken Audigy 2 ZS bulk to retailer for repair under warranty, at this point after the release of Audigy 4, they seemed to lack Audigy 2 ZS, so they offered me an option to receive the Audigy 4 bulk in return.
Is there any difference between these two, besides that Audigy 2 ZS bulk had an firewire connector on the backside of the PCI-card? And what really makes me ask the question is that that the new Audigy 4 seems to be almost a third cheaper than it's predecessor Audigy 2 ZS bulk.
Is the new card such an leap in the evolution that they had to skip one number straight to four? :smileysurprised: :smileysurprised: :smileysurprised:
edit: I also have the option to pay an extra 40 ? to get an Sound Blaster? X-Fi XtremeMusic instead. On paper I instantly noticed it has EAX 5.0 over the EAX 4.0 of Audigy 2 ZS or 4 bulk. Would that be a wise pick? I listen a lot of music on my PC, mostly MP3 etc., watch DVD:s and I have Gigaworks S750 7. speakers.Message Edited by Atte_84 on 0-5-2006 04:24 AM

I'll not go into tech details cause you just need to read the specs to see what each card can and can not do... What i will say is this, i have always had creative cards and with each upgrade have found the new card to be better in performance and sound quality. I have just gone from an Audigy 2 Platinum Pro ZS to a new X-Fi Elite Pro and the quality and performance is fantastic. I use this card in my studio for recording/producing music and for playing the latest PC games. Without question it is a far better card ...BUT ... the question you need to ask yourself is this... are these gains worth the additional cost to upgrade based upon what you intend to do with it. I paid ?75 for my Elite Pro ( a very good price i would say )because i use all of it's features**. If you are just going to use it's most basic features to play games and listen to music using a basic set of stereo speakers then what is the point spending money on a card that will never be fully used. If you want better performance and quality then X-fi is a great card but at a cost...
** X-ram is not related to how much on board ram you have in the way you think. X-ram is only of use if the application you are using has been written to use it. It's an extra " wow " feature that at this time only benefits a few games...but new titles should take advantage of this...
As a note... you will see on this forum that many users have various issues with their card ( crackle/pop ) is a common report. This was an issue i had many years ago with my early creative cards and was due to " Bus Hogging " A little tweak of the Bus Latency cured this. None of my Audigy cards ( of which i have had 3 ) or my new x-fi card have this or any other problem.
Bottom line .. For me the X-fi Elite Pro is perfect for what i want it to do and a much better all round card than the Audigy range...Message Edited by Pawpaw on -6-2006:58 AM

• Digital Output problem once again (WIN XP, Audigy

I searched the forums with no luck, actually I searched the whole internet with no luck - so far.
My problems in a nutcase:
- I can't find the button for Digital Output (the one which enables it, Windows XP's sound mixer used to have that option with some ?windows build?, but I can't find it since I installed creative drivers, it's just gone...).
- If I find the digital output on-button with your help, is it even possible hear music with add-ons trough digital-optical cable or should I buy some mono-cable? :O
To be specific:
I have the Creative Audigy 4 Bulk, which of course supports SPDIF Digital output. I bought expesi've optical cable that I could finally use my hifi 5. speakers with movies trought computer. I have new 700 euro amplifier, and it supports everything, so the problem isn't with that one, anyways, let's get touch with the real problem.
What ever drivers I'm using, I can't find the digital output section anywhere. Creative drivers has one SPDIF-button, but it affects nowhere. So, I can't even get the Digital Sound on, because windows mixer has no button for that with my windows xp, weird. I also tried to install windows vista, and there wasn't either any options, where I could put the digital output on.
Which drivers and which add-ons should I install to get that Digital Output to work.
If I manage to find the button for digital output from some drivers, can I also listen music while it's connected via optical-digital cable, or am I just able to hear sound from dolby digital movies? Is it even possible to get everything work with my optical cable (music/games and movies at the same time).

. Your card doesn't have optical output, only "coaxial" digital. You will need a stereo (or camcorder) cable with one mini jack on one end and 2 (or 3) RCA connectors on the other. The white RCA will be the one you need.
The setting is on the "Creative AudioHQ" at the "Surround Mixer" selection. It is called "Digital Output Only". Or if you use the little icon on the taskbar, at the "Speakers" on "Speaker Selection" you have the same option (a check mark under the selection of speakers).
2. If you read the FAQ, you will get surround sound (5.) ONLY from DVD-Video that are encoded in DolbyDigital or DTS and ONLY if you pass-trough the digital signal to the receiver to do the decoding. In ALL other cases you will get STEREO PCM signal.
3. If your receiver is a decent one you should have an analog surround input (5. analog input). in that one you can plug the analog outputs from your card in order to have surround sound all the time (like in the games).

• Differences between audigy 4 and audigy 4

Hi. I am in position to buy Audigy 4 bulk version (non pro). I would like to know If there are any other differences besides extended box, especially if DACs are the same (CS4382 or CS 4398?). Thanks in advance

Audigy4 is in fact an Audigy2 Value with the firmware modified to report Audigy4. Is a very big difference compared to Audigy4 Pro.
The DAC's are lower quality than the Pro version, the digital jack is different, no other goodies (fireware, AD_EXT connector for adding an audio bay latter)...

• Aud 2 NX - Cant Select 96Khz Sampling Rate/Dolby Digital Light doesn't Illuminate when playing DV

Hi,
I'm running a Audigy 2 NX (USB) on a Toshiba 240-504 Notebook through the rear USB port, the speakers I am running are Logitech X530's (A bargain if you can get them, but that's beside the point =])
I cannot select 24Bit/96Khz from the Device Control applet, I should be able to. All I can select is 24bit/48Khz.
Also, when I'm playing Dolby Digital content such as a DVD through PowerDVD, the Dolby Digital light on the card does not illuminate, is this expected behaviour? The light Illuminates if I use the product showcase demo cd though, by the way. Also, slightly off topic, does anyone know what settings I should be using for PowerDVD? Is CLMEI-2 ok?
I will post anymore information you need to know at request. Thanks very much for your time reading this.

th0r0n,
Are your notebook using USB2.0 as those options are only available if you are using USB2.0. There's a chart in the manual also that shows these. Also, the Audigy 2 NX dolby indicator will only light up if it's decoding AC3 material. If you are using PowerDVD, you will need to config PowerDVD to use SPDIF and passthrough the AC3 signal to the sound card for decoding.

• Achieve full Vista Dolby, S/PDIF-In & DTS for X-Fi or Audig

I placed a post on 9/2/07:? ? I had to reuse the 2 downloaded?files after Vista's recent Service Pack. My X-Fi Elite is still fully functional in Vista Ultimate with the S/PDIF-In.
I found the link last summer:? ?
Still there it explains:
"... Creative Labs removed Dolby decoding on their mainstream drivers, yet saw fit to leave the feature in Dell drivers!
... Firstly we need to download the Vista x86 X-Fi driver from Dell. Just go on the Dell site and get these?. Now extract the R44728.EXE file (again using WinRAR) to a folder but don't install it just cancel after extracting.
All you really want are two files that you can find located in your newly extracted folder: R44728\Drivers\wdm\win2k_xp\i386\
These files are ctac32k.sys and ctdvda2k.sys.? Copy them and place them into your c:\windows\system32\drivers folder, replacing existing versions.
Now reboot and afterwards you?ll have a brand new tab in the Creative Audio Console (CAC -lol) labelled ?Decoder?.
Now you can enable the internal decoder and your SPDIF?IN can now decode DTS. Now you can use more than 2 speakers in Windows Media Player when playing .avi or .mp3 with multichannel soundtracks.
I hope this fix helps somebody as much as it helped me."

Thanks for the suggestions Larry, sadly I cannot get this to work for me
I have two Fatalty cards, one was purchased not that long after the release of the X-Fi (it has a remote and a front box), now DTS and Dolby work fine on this card under Windows XP.
My new system has a newer Fatalty Professional series card....for some unknown reason the DTS and Dolby is locked under XP, I had to use a hack from a Russian site to unlock the Dolby and DTS decoder under Windows XP, yet sadly nothing seems to unlock them on Vista x64 with SP.
Thanks for the guide, perhaps it is Vista 32Bit's or older style X-Fi's only?

• Latest Audigy 4 Drive

Hi everyone
Just new here, so Hello all.
Ive just bought an Audigy 4 bulk. When I installed the card I removed my SBLi've, removed all Drivers, applications and registry entries, then ran Driver Cleaner Pro to get ride of all creative stuff.
My question is: Are the updated web drivers, just updates or are they full versions of the Audigy windows drivers.
The reason i ask is that my old SBLIve showed up as an "SBLi've (WDM)", with just the naked MS sound drivers that come with windows until I updated, then it showed a full "Creative SoundBlaster Li've", and audio codecs, now the audigy is showing up as just a "Creative Audigy 4 (WDM)" in XP device manager, with these new drivers.
I realise the SBLi've was built at the time of Win98 and updated Win2000, but not XP.
Is this right
Cheers M

Yes, using the DLLML.exe from the CD should work as it does in my setup. Do a search using the Windows search tool, and it should find two identical instances of the file in the CD, one of them in a CAB file. You should be able to copy & paste either instance to your C: dri've's location as long as the DLLML.exe file is not already loaded/running in memory.
I had sent Creative's support an e-mail with exactly the same information, but unfortunately the first response I got from them was to do a cleansweep and install of the Creative software. I say "unfortunately" because Creative did not describe what are we trying to accomplish by "tainting" a fresh format/XP SP2 install with a massi've uninstall & reinstall of Creative software, even when I hoped narrowing the issue down to what seems to be a trivial EXE would have triggered some ideas as to what might be wrong with that particular version of the EXE file (i.e. it seems to be, after all, a DDL file loader, which does not seem to be driver engine code per se, but instead a DLL memory loader).
As I mentioned to them, this system simply has a fresh XP install, all OS updates, all peripheral drivers, and the Creative card and software was the last thing installed in the box. No tweaks other than DEP turned OFF, no overclocking, no extraneous services running in the background, not even any additional software. Installation of the software was done by the letter, with proper reboots.
I would appreciate if someone has an idea of what may be accomplished by a re-install of Creative software on a fresh OS install when the problem is squarely on the DLLML.exe file. You can be as specific as pinpointing DLL or registry entries that such a re-install is suppossed to fix (i.e. I am using the wrong files; a registry entry has the wrong value, etc.), and how this would have happened when following the installation steps as documented.
Thanks in advance.

• 5.1 through SPDIF on Conexant high def soundcard

have an HP Pavillion DV6810em with Vista 32. My problem is with the Conexant High Definition SPDIF interface. My first question is clarification as to whether my laptop has a front optical jack (that doubles up as a standard 3.5mm jack which is already there and working). The specs online seem to state it doesn't, but in the sound properties it says that the SPDIF interface is front optical jack. I have tried with a mini tos connection from the laptop to an AV receiver, but nothing worked.
My second and main question again relates to the SPDIF interface. I have recently purchased an HD TV and have connected an HDMI 1.3 lead from the laptop to the tv. Picture is fine, my problem is the sound. I manage to get 2 channel PCM sound through the lead (on all my software), however I really would like 5.1 sound. My tv accepts dolby and dts through HDMI and I have an optical lead running from the tv to an AV reciever which also accepts dolby and dts. I have checked my tv manual and it states that if dolby or dts is received by the tv, then it will pass it through the optical lead to the AV receiver.
I seem to have tried every potential solution from looking around the net, but I’ll outline what I have tried. I only have 2 options in sound properties – Speakers or SPDIF interface. I select the SPDIF interface as default device and within its properties, it shows that the conexant soundcard is capable of both dts and dolby. Those boxes are both checked, as are the all the other check boxes in the window. I have tried AC3 filter with numerous options, I have changed settings on my tv and av receiver and have installed all the latest drivers.
Again, 5.1 is the issue – for example, quickplay has 2 internal settings. The first, ‘analogue’ plays the 2 channel PCM. The other ‘SPDIF’ (which I assume will enable dolby or dts) when selected plays no sound at all. I have tried other programmes such as media player classic, media center and media player with the same results. I just want to know what the problem is, even if there is no solution!
To confirm, 2 channel PCM works with all software on my laptop on the SPDIF interface (and when analogue is selected quickplay), just not 5.1 dolby or dts with a dvd (like when SPDIF is selected in quickplay). Just incase you need to know, in sound properties the laptop speakers work fine, as does the headphone jack with it (which are obviously stereo analogue sound only).
     Thanks for your help.

Hey Man,
I ran into the same problem. There ARE solutions out there, you need to google them and they involve different sound cards then you can find here. I didnt know the audigy could do Dolby Digital, or DTS encoding, but thats what you need if you want games to work on the home theatre.
The X-FI can only output 2 channel stereo over its digital outputs... most sound cards on the market do however have DTS Encoding and Dolby Digital encoding, so any of these other options is the way to go. [For example. I switched to my onboard sound on my asus p5kc motherboard which can do dolby encoding with a software patch, so I've lost EAX 5, but I have dolby digital surroudn in games on my home theatre which rocks. ]
Creative does sell a DTS encoder seperately, but it is very very expensi've.
There is NO way to have a game output 5. on a home theatre using X-Fi Fatalty sound cards and a digital connection.
There is also no way to get the X-FI Fatalty sound card to work with Unreal Tournament 3. [openAl crash. No fix planned]
Basically its a finished card with no support and no real reason to hold on to it.

If it has the AUD_EXT pin on the card then most likely it's able to work with the dri've bay but since yours are bulk/OEM then I'm not too sure no that since OEM card are often not the same as retail. So it's a 70% yes 30% no.

I have bought Creative Soundblaster Audigy 4 Bulk, I already had an 7. USB headset
Now i wanna know if it's possible to use that headset with my audigy soundcard
If it's possible please give me a short note of how to do it,

No you cannot. A USB headset also means it has its own "soundcard", or better a software-based sound engine. You need to use conventional headphones to use your Audigy. This means they need to have analog audio inputs.
