Audigy SE: Dolby Li

I am looking for a cheap sound card that supports 5., and the Audigy SE caught my eye. I had good experiences with Creative in the past, so I'm leaning twoard getting it. But one of my most-played games supports surround only in Dolby Li've mode. Does the Audigy SE support Dolby Li've, and if not what are some cheap ($30-$40) alternati'ves that do?
Thank you.

The Dolby Digital Li've is not encoded in the game. It is just a way to send 5. channels via SPDIF to a digital receiver. If you have an analog 5. PC speaker system, then you don't need DDL (you don't have a digital input). You just need to hook up the analog outputs to your speaker system. And let know windows about that That guy has in the description that is NOT an Atari Employee. Maybe he is thinking that you have an XBOX - that one has only stereo analog out and DDL over digital conection. Now, I don't know if the game itself has surround sound - should be an option on sound menu. That's another problem...Message Edited by SoNic2367 on 04-02-200609:24 PM

  • Audigy nx dolby digital decod

I have one of these units for my acer aspire laptop, i have NEVER got it to decode the dolby digital from a bought dvd yet, it doesnt even show the dolby light.. all the speakers test as o0k with the test tone, but put in a dolby surround dvd and all you get is two channel stereo.
So much for 5: surround sound, not much use of half your speakers are redundant.
Anyone else encountered and / or SOLVED this id really appreciate any info you have

Sorry, for some reason I suggested selecting 'SPDIF Pass Through' :smileyindifferent:. Actually if you are using analogue speakers, this option should be off. Just selecting SPDIF output in the DVD software should work.

    Hello everyone,
We understand SB Audigy users are eagerly anticipating the Dolby Digital Li've upgrade availability. We are still working on the development. Unfortunately, the work requires more time than anticipated earlier due to the difference in the Audigy product architecture vs the X-Fi product architecture as well as testing required to ensure stable and correct functionality. We estimate Dolby Digital upgrade for Audigy to be available in late Dec 2008. We apologize for the delay and are trying our best to release earlier if possible.

I mean that I can get the decoded Sound in realtime decoded that I can use it to an acti've Surround set?

Hi Tobias>> You can go for a Plain Audigy 2 ZS will be the cheapest way to do it, It will decode AC3 and DTS all you have to do is a very little addition to your card, it will take you 5 minutes to do it, follow this link and just use the info you need.

If you wanna have all the inputs/ouputs buy an Audigy 2ZS Platinum.

  • Proper 5.1 Dolby Digital using Optical in on Audigy 2 ZS

As of yesterday night, I have connected my PS3 to my Audigy 2 ZS via optical in, so that i could hear 5.1 from my PC sound system (Klipsch Promedia Ultra 5.1).From what i've heard somewhere (I don't know if it's true) you need audio to be in the bitstream format in order to hear proper dolby digital 5.1 when using an optical cable. When selecting the (PS3 MENU) Blu-ray optical out as LPCM, I've managed to get audio to all speakers (including subwoofer (doesn't sound like proper LFE emission)) but it'sjust sounds like stereo on each channel, not the proper discrete surround sound. When I set my Blur-ray disc optical out to bitstream (hoping to hear real 5.1) I hear no audio during the film (although somehow on one test i heard sound in the menu). How do i get my sound card to recognize and decode the bitstream format so I can hear dolby 5.1 or is an LPCM signal sufficient for proper 5.1 In the creative audioHQ, I have set the digital input to Dolby Digital/DTS SPDIF-in Decode. This is the only change I have made (on the PC)so far to hear 5.1 sound from an external device (I also got the sound card to recognize the SPDIF-in). Is there more I am supposed to do, or is it enough? Is the AC3 audio filter neccessary for my situation? For additional information, (In the above setups) i do not get audio for DVDs or games (these could be PS3 issues)?Any advice or information would be greatly appreciated? Thanks!

Here is perhaps a better reply ....
The only 5. compressed signal the Video Editor (or the NX) can play is one that originates on the host - via a DVD player like InterVideo or Cyberlink, or from Creative Media Source application - the digital stream is decoded in the driver and then sent to the external device. It cannot act as a stand-alone decoder box in which the signal originates from the S/PDIF jack.

  • Dolby 5.1 with Windows 7 using an Audigy Platinum EX

    Hello.
    Long story short.
I've mashed together three old PC's to make one reasonably ok one as a media center.
I have an old MSI motherboard, running an AMD XP 2.GB Chip with .25GB of Ram and an AGP Video card (Soon to be upgraded to an ATI 4850 AGP Card with HDMI out.
My trusty Audigy Platinum EX has been re used (again!) and after finding some drivers, everything seems to be ok!
    What's the problem you ask?
I cant seem to get true 5. surround, via the on board optical out (speaker calibration wont play front centre, sub or rear speakers.)
I'm running the lot through a Creative 5. Inspire speaker system (using the optical input) if i let the Inspire system sort out the sound, I can get surround, but only if i switch on the 5. manually, and like I said, it won't play via the speaker test in windows or the creative consul on screen.
Am I missing something real simple, or is this an issue anyone else has had dealings with?
Also (as if that weren't enough) there doesn't seem to be any support for the EAX and ESS systems, and I cant use the remote control that came with the Platinum EX.
If anyone can offer any sugestions, I'd be most grateful.
    With Thanks.
    Andrew. (UK)

    Hello again.
I've got hold of a Vista Support Pack that supposedly fixes loads of the issues I've got with an old card on Windows 7, I've pasted the notebook specs and details that came with it, and if you've any idea how I can put a downloud link on this forum so you can download it from me, you are more than welcome to try it. I'm not knowledged enough to put a link on here, but others have done it, so it must be possible... Any Ideas?
    Here Goes!!!

Does not seem to cause any problems, but if you ever need to disable it, follow these steps:
    - run the Registry Editor (Regedit) and open the following registry tree:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class
    - select Search (or press the F3 key) and type EnableWaveRTPullMode, deleting the value when found.
    Restart the computer.
For more information on WaveRT, access:
    <a rel="nofollow" href="http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/device/audio/wavertport.mspx"]http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/device/audio/wavertport.mspx[/url]
    - Built-in Decoder (requires Windows Vista Service Pack )
To use the built-in decoder, make sure it is enabled in Audio Console.
Select ?SPDIF Out (Creative SB Audigy (WDM))? as the output device of
your player and then configure the AC3/DTS filter to send the stream
    through SPDIF.
When you restart your computer, the Tone settings (Bass and Treble) are not applied.
Just readjust one of the controls one time per boot.
    - EAX effects, Advanced EQ and Special FX
EAX effects only work in 4., 5. e 7. speaker settings.
Advanced EQ and Special FX only work in 2. speakers or Headphone settings.
    - EAX effects, Advanced EQ and Special FX (Using SPDIF Out)
All effects work properly, but when you restart your computer, the Tone settings (Bass and Treble) are not applied.
Just readjust one of the controls one time per boot.
    - There is no sound in games with OpenAL support or using Creative ALchemy
Disable Advanced EQ and Special FX selecting ?No effects? before running the game or program.
    - Equalizer settings are lost
It happens after you run a game with OpenAL support or using Creative ALchemy. This issue also occurs in Windows XP, so it is not specific to this Windows Vista driver.
When you restart the computer or run Equalizer, the saved setting is automatically loaded.
    - No sound when CMSS is enabled using Audio Console (4. or more speakers)
Just move the Stereo Focus slider and set it back to the desired position, even if it is 0 (zero). Once the setting is saved, works properly. This issue does not affect EAX Settings.
    - Windows Vista MIDI Device Configuration Utility
Use this utility to change the MIDI playback device for 32-bit and 64-bit applications.
The driver installer automatically selects the first hardware MIDI synthesizer found.
Note: The Audigy 2 ZS Notebook (PCMCIA) does not have a hardware synthesizer.
    Some screenshots:
    - Equalizer:
    - Stereo Surround:
    - Decoder:
    - Mplayer Classic: select ?SPDIF Out (Creative SB Audigy (WDM))? as the output device of
    your player
    - Mplayer Classic: configure the AC3/DTS filter to send the stream through SPDIF
    - Hardware MIDI:
Hope this is of some help?
Let me know if you've any idea how to upload the programme!!
    Kind regards.
    Andrew.

  • Trouble using Creative Audigy 2 ZS Video editor with an external Dolby / DTS Deco

I had purchased a Creative Audigy 2 ZS Video editor for following two requirements,
I wanted to be able to Digitize video from almost any source.<
And I also wanted to have an external Audio Card that I could share between my Home Desktop / Laptop and let Digital Audio Signal get to my Yamaha Reciever that powers a Bose Home Theater Speaker System.<
    My typical connection setup is,
Desktop / Laptop >> USB 2.0 Shielded Cable >> Audigy 2 ZS Video Editor >> Optical Out >> LC Optical Cable >> DVD Optical In of Yamaha reciever
I do not have WinDVD or any other program that can allow SPDIF in Pass Through Mode, so I use VLC as my media player. While playing DVD / other DivX / XVid videos with Dolby / DTS / AC3 audio track I get the option of setting the audio to SPDIF Pass through Mode and that's how I use it.
It had been working fine for a while (6 months) and then I was not using the card for a while (been busy at work). And since then I'm not able to use this in SPDIF Pass Through Mode any more.
Each time I select that mode in VLC the player kinda freezes and plays Media File with breaks, making it just un-usable. In case I leave the player audio option to Stereo output?mode it works fine, but I do get only Analogue Audio deli'vered to the External Recei'ver and to say the least, after listening to DTS / Dolby audio this simply doesn't cut it.
I've already updated the latest drivers from Creative Site, have tried the card with two different Dell Laptops (D820 and D80) and my home desktop. It gives exactly same result in all cases.
I've not tested DTS Decoding output from the Device itself, 'cause I don't have sufficient cables to take decoded output from the device and send that to the receiver. But in case I opt that option in VLC player The player keeps playing Video without any issues. I can't validate if it's decoding correctly or not, 'cause I don't have cables to connect all that outputs to the receiver.
Can my problem be related to anything on the Optical connection cable itself?
If someone could shade some light on this issue that would be really helpful.

    Hello,
I have the exact same problem and would very much like to know if there are 64bit drivers available.
    Thanks in advance.

  • DTS and Dolby digital support in Vista for Audigy 2 ZS Video Editor

Hello, I own a SoundBlaster Audigy 2 ZS Video Editor with USB connection and would like to know when will be available a drivers for Windows Vista and Windows 7 where we have full support for using the Dolby Digital and DTS decoder, I mention because it seems that?this card is forgotten about the update of drivers and is a pity that it is?lack of the support.

Sorry for not replying - have been away for the past few days.
Ok, so I go to Creative Device Control, and on the PCI/USB tab I've changed the sampling rate to 48khz.
    It was previously at 44.kHz
The bit depth is still at 6bit
Now the problem seems to be solved.
The problem was only with the output from the device. And now there are no skips!!
    Excellent!
Why has that solved it though?
I've read on other forums (head-fi) that the audigy cards do not run at 44.kHz nati'vely so the sound has to be downsampled.
Is that skipping an artefact of that downsampling process?
Will having that set at 48kHz, but recording to a 44.kHz 6bit wav file theoretically reduce the quality of the recording - compared to having it set at 44.kHz and recording a wav at 44.kHz?
On the SPDIF tab the input sample rate is shown as 44.kHz - as that's what is output by the DAC in my minidisc deck.
But when I changed the sampling rate on the PCI/USB tab, the SPDIF output sampling rate also changed to 48kHz.
This means if I wanted to record from the optical output, whilst also recording to the computer, and that device only supported 44.kHz - I can't do that?
You listed some main reasons to the truth, why Creative SB cards are not very popular on serious use (DAW). I.e. need for resampling. X-Fi's in creation mode are (least said to be) the only ones not resample everything.
There is a setting for "Bit-Accurate-Recording" (digital modes only) --> have you tried if that works on your recordings?

There's a digital output on the card itself. 'tis the farthest one from the motherboard I beli've.
What you erally need is a cable like t his one:
    http://www.needledoctor.com/Sony-RK-...=2&category=92
Plug the mini-plug end into the soundcard and one of the outputs ( the left channel I believe ) will have the digital output.
You will only get surround sound via the decoder if when playing back pre-encoded DD/DTS content like DVDs. Games and stuff will playback in stereo when connected digitally as SPDIF only supports compressed multi-channel bitstreams or uncompressed 2 channel audio. No Creative card at present offers real time DD/DTS encoding ( there're other cards which do which support Dolby Digital Li've! or DTS Connect. ) Creative have a DTS encoder called the DTS-60 which can take analogue signals from the soundcard ( stereo mini-plug x 3 ) and encode it to DTS for output via a coaxial or optical SPDIF in real time. I've never used the DTS-60 and can't comment on how good it is. Also note that the Audigy 2 ZS has weak bass redirection if using the DTS-60 and the 60 lacks bass redirection of its own so you could very well end up with a 'bass-less' signal if you're connecting to small speakers, unless your decoder has volume controls for the subwoofer.Message Edited by nvidiot on 09-27-2006 0:32 PM

  • Vista ultimate x64 any chance to get decoding of dts and dolby digital for audigy 2 zs platinum

is there any chance to get this feature back in vista ultimate x64?

According to Creative, Vista no longer supports the decoding of Dolby and DTS at the driver level, so no, that feature proabably won't added back in the future. It is gone for all the Creative cards.

  • Will Xbox, Logitech X-530 5.1 speakers and Audigy 2 NX combo decode dolby digit

    Hi there
I have a Xbox, Logitech X-530 5. speaker system and Audigy 2 NX sound card. I want Audigy 2 NX sound card to decode dolby digital from its optical-in? (optical in is from the XBOX) .. Is it possible? If yes, how? If not, what is the solution? Can Extigy external sound card do it's
Also, can be Audigy 2 NX external sound card be stand alone instead of always being connected to the PC? I just want it to be connected to XBOX to decode dolby digital 5...
    Thanks!

it is relevant for me to post in here as someone was asking if the aud 2 zs plat dri'ves optical in or coaxial in could be used for connecting up to an external source sch as dvd player, xbox.
And i am in technical supports hand about my prouducts, so if yo u ban me i will be insisting they take action against you , as i have a valid reason for posting into these forums.
I have spent over ?3,000 on creative proucts, and the last 2 things i purchased from, creative cost ?450 the gigaworks s 750 speakers, and the audigy 2 zs platinum.
And therefore i am entitled to speak the truth.
Some one asked if the connection is possible, i am not the only person using the hardware that is having decoding lag whilst using optical in on li've dri've, it's just that not many people that have this hardware are using it like this, so they don't realise that they will have problems if they ever decide to use external dvd players, instead of the software ones like powerdvd windvd etc.
I am forwarding this entire thread to creative technical support guy that i am dealing with so he can see i am not doing anything wrong, you need to look at my other post with regards to the audigy 2 li've dri've having the exact pcb model number revisions etc, as the audigy2 zs platinum li've dri've, and that the combination of the audigy 2 li've dri've not being a connection that creative will offer support for, which is another thing i will be asking creative when i phone tech support up tomorrow, as i want to speak to someone higher up about this.
And you say you are testing this at home and cannot replicate this issue.
Can i ask what speakers you are using.
What soundcard are you using, are you using the aud 2zs plat version not the plat pro version.
Also what make of dvd player are you using to play dvds on, what spdif option your using in external dvd player ?
And what are the model numbers on your audigy 2 zs platinum li've dri've motherboard ?
Also what driver version are you using for the zs plat card ?
As i have used the supplied disc version, and updated to latest versions makes no difference.

  • Audigy 2 NX Dolby Digital Probl

Ive read through the stickys and most nx posts and i just dont understand why the dolby digital light wont illuminate on my audigy 2 nx.
Im running logitech z-680's and have tried 6ch direct, optical, and coax in an attempt to get the dolby digital enabled. Ive been on the device control and selected the S/PDIF passthrough, all the 96khz, 48khz, and 44. khz options and it just wont work !
Theres also something weird in my speaker settings on the creative software, whereby i try and select digital output only whilst my speaker config is 5. then it selects digital output only and the speakers alwasys change back to 2. !!!!! It's extremely annoying.
The only way i've heard tru dolby digital is through my ps2 and it is awesome, i would like to hear it through my pc, so a solution would be greatly appreciated. Any Ideas ?
    Simo

There're many other people which have the same problem. I have it too, of course.
I have tried the test mode and was able to do all the steps described, but at the end it just goes back to flashing like before. I bought the device in January 2004 and it just now will not power up.
I think I would never buy any creative product again, because the products are almost bugged and the customer service is at zero level.

  • ¿Does Audigy 2 NX decode Dolby Digital 5.

    Hi,
I've purchased an Audigy 2 NX to connect my xbox 360 via optical sound wire and get Dolby Digital 5..
The problem starts here, i've connected the console to optical In (in the sound card) and i've connected the 5. via standart jacks (the 3 typical jacks), if i set Dolby Digital 5. mode on the xbox 360 i don't get any sound, but if i set it to Stereo Digital it sounds but only in 2. mode (front speakers).
The dolby digital led in the sound card never works, it's always off, it suposes to be on when it detects a Dolby Digital Input (like the 360 one's) but it always remains off.
How can i decode Dolby Digital 5. via optical in? In the sound card spec's says that this card is able to Decode DD 5. and 7., but it seems to be a lie!.

this soundcard does not decode from external source...so it won't work this way.
