Audigy SE & Microphone Crackli

Hello!
I just purchased an Audigy SE, and everything seemed to be working fine. Sound works GREAT, but the problem is that the sound produced over the microphone is pure crackling. The program that's causing this problem is Ventrilo, and thats the only program I'm ever going to use for the microphone.
I'm running Windows Vista, and under the "Recording" tab, I've got S/PDIF-In set at the default. The microphone says it's currently unavailible. Now, I've set the microphone as the default device and turned the volume all the up, and tapped the microphone to see if it gets a response - it does. Then when I go into Ventrilo to test the device, no sound comes from the microphone at all.
What's the problem? The drivers are installed, and it's starting to really frustrate me since I had to replace my older sound card for issues like this.
PLEASE HELP!

Never mind. I looked through a search, and apparently the SE is designed for 600-ohm impedance mics. My HP-s are 2200-ohm. *starts looking for a new sound card*

  • Audigy 4 Microphone Issue, He

I recently purchased an Audigy 4 Sound Card. My headset was a logitech; it worked fine right up until I installed the Audigy 4. Now I've got awesome sound, but cannot record; or talk in my Teamspeak. I've done all the normal checks in making sure my card was selected in Teamspeak and making sure that my microphone is not muted. I then purchased another headset, A eDimensional Audio FX with force feed back. This thing is killer, but guess what, no microphone there either. I can take both headsets and hook them up to my older computer and it works fine. I have installed, uninstalled and re-installed all the lastest drivers and still no go.
I can even take a regular "stick" microphone and plug it into the new sound card and voice recording works fine. Now here comes the stupid question:
There are two hookups on the new headset...one USB and the other end has the regular twin plugs for speakers and microphone. Should my headset be listed in the properties under, control panel, sound and audio? Because if its supposed to be there it aint.
God I hope someone can help me with this....this is driving me absolutely insane.
    Thanks!

Applications can change the recording source by themselves. Some games which expect the microphone to be plugged into the first microphone jack on the card will by default change the recording source to vanilla "mic."
There's currently no way to lock the recording source at the moment.

  • SB Audigy Platinum Microphone Line2/Mic2 settings h

I have the original SB Audigy Platinum that includes the external bay device. When plugging a headset into the headphone and line2/mic2 connectors, the headphones work and the microphone on the headset does not. I have done some investigation and it appears that the default audio in device is the microphone. I believe that the microphone points to the mic in connector on the PCI soundcard. If I use the Sound Mixer I can manually change the audio in from microphone to line/mic2 and the headset microphone works. However if I stop the using the microphone and then try and use it again I discover that the setting has been changed back to microphone. So everytime we want to use the microphone we must go to the sound mixer and manually make the change. Is there anyway to save the setting line2/mic2 to make it permanent? One of the reasons for having the external bay device to allow the headet to be connected and disconnected without reaching around the back. I am tryng to make this easy for my wife to use (with Skype) without the hassle of the extras ste
    ps.
    Thanks.

Jeremey, thanks for your reply. This is one of those classic issues where the application folk (like IM clients and Skype) say to ask the SB folk what can be done and you (the SB folk) ask if the application owners can change their applications. So I am exploring options. Gi'ven that we don't use the 'mic in' (mic - microphone) connector on the PCI card, is there any way to reset the Audigy so that the external bay line/mic2 can be recognized as mic or the microphone? Perhaps there's a jumper or soft switch setting? Otherwise, is there anyway at all from the SB side (card, jumpers, drivers, Creative apps) to set the microphone to line2/mic2? Like I say I am looking for ideas from the SB side.
    Thanks again for your reponse.

  • Audigy 4 - Microphone Recording is

Hello everyone. I recently purchased and installed an Audigy 4 Pro. It is an awesome card, and everything is outstanding except for one major issue. As many of you know, the product comes with the 'Creative sound mixer'. In that mixer, on the extreme right, there is the recording option. It should be set to 'Line in /Mic'. When it is, the microphone works fine.
However, that option frequently changes itself on its own to either 'wave' or 'line 3'. When this happens, it is essentially as if my microphone was muted. It does this completely on its own. I have updated all drivers, all applicatoins, read the FAQ thread, and sent Creative an e-mail. I have yet to hear anything from creative that solves my problem or lets me know something I was not informed about prior.
Does anyone have any thoughts/suggestions as to how I can get this resolved? Thank you to anyone in advance willing to assist.

Applications can change the recording source by themselves. Some games which expect the microphone to be plugged into the first microphone jack on the card will by default change the recording source to vanilla "mic."

  • Audigy SE: Snap, crackle, pop / hardware not fo

You think you have problems... take a look at mine... all CL relavent... I have a problem that Dell says they can't isolate, and sware they will make Creative's problem if our next course of action doesn't resolve the snap, crackles and pops in games (like Flight simulator 9 and 0, and WoW). Yes,?integrated MB?Sigmatel drivers (merge between CL and another company) and PCI SB cards have the same problems... Snap-crackle-pop and the continual "SCHHHHHH..." sounds. My system is a Dell, which of course, gives me a little support, but not much. Please read... With tech support through Dell from India and Canada, my system, w/o CL cards installed creates snap, crackles and popping sounds in any 3D engine game (like FS 9 and 0, and WoW). Dell has no idea how to solve this problem, after installing drivers for DX, doing and IDE config, reinstalling my onboard Sigmatel drivers, changing the hardware acceleration and sample rates, simply unplugging and plugging back in the input jack leading to the speakers, trying a CL's sound card, like the Audigy SE (with its own problems much like what my onboard integrated Sigmatel drivers do)...etc. Now, to all of you experiencing CL's problems, I have already tried updated drivers, moving the card from one PCI slot to another (through all PCI slots), adjusting volume levels, tried playing a DVD (couldn't hear anything well from the DVD beacuse the volume, though maxed out, wasn't loud enough), tried a SB 5. Dell Digital (same problems), and the list goes on. My system:?OS: Windows Media Center 2005Dell E50 3ghz P4 w/ ATI PCI hypermemory 256 video card(2) free PCI slots available after vidoe and TV out cardSigmatel integrated sound (not a 3D sound engine...they admitted that)2.5 gb DDR2 SDRAM, 400mhz?This isn't top of the line, but the next course of action from Dell is to wipe my system clean of WMC 2005 and install Windows XP Pro, at their cost, not mine (thank God for tech support extended warranty). At least then I will have CL driver's. After reading this post, however, and many on this forum, I find that CL's has not addressed the fundamental "problem". So, I wonder, after all is said and done, CL's hasn't really isolated the problem? What gives? It would appear the OS doesn't matter, so maybe the Chipset does? or is it the 3D sound engine? i am not a tech, and Dell tech support can't figure it out, either. So, any suggestions?

... and by the way, the cards won't even install with CL's software from the CD on to the system. The only way to get any of the cards to work, if at all, was to force the driver to work (going in and saying "I want THIS driver installed"). The software on the CD won't run (multiple cards...dell digital, Audigy SE, li've 5., etc) nor will the downloaded drivers EXE file run. When I forced the driver to work I got the "SCHHHH" sound, instead of the advertised "PERFECT UPGRADE FROM THE BASIC MOTHERBOARD AUDIO TO OUTSTANDING MUSIC, MOVIE AND GAME SOUND". In my case, the sound was no-more superior than a fart in space.

  • Audigy 2 ZS crackling when loadi

Hello, I just got an audigy 2ZS a few weeks ago and have noticed that whenever my computer is doing something, like unzipping a file, loading a level of a game, opening a program, anything like that, my sound decides to crackle the entire time it's doing that. It just seems that any time my CPU or HDD is doing something, my sound decides to crap out until it's done.
    I'm using a AMD64 3200+ CPU
    ASUS K8V deluxe motherboard
    GB 3200+ RAM
    ATI Radeon 9800pro
    450W PSU
Those should be all the important system things. I also have the newest drivers for the card as far as I know. The driver info in the Device Manager says it's 5.2.2.444.
Help would be appreciated, thank you.

You got the drivers from installation CD there. With the newest drivers you should see 5.2.8.64 instead.
    Also,
    - try if optimizing performance (Application response) for "Background services" helps anything
    - increase PCI Latency for sound card (for PCI Latency tool, use google)
    - increase playback buffer (on audio player)
    - enable DMA for all IDE devices
    - install UDMA drivers if you have them bundled with motherboard

  • Audigy 2 microphone input issue

I'm having a heck of a time this this Audigy 2 card. I have my headset plugged into the included front panel but the default microphone input is the card. I can change the input in the control panel to the front panel but windows changes it back to the card automatically. I have nothing plugged into the card directly. When the input is change to the front panel everything works normally. I've tried uninstalling an reinstalling the drivers with no luck. Using winxp 32 bit. Any ideas?

Since posting this message, I have had several people contact me to see if a solution has been developed as they had the same issue. Alas nothing and not a word from Creative about it.

  • SB Audigy 4 microphone problems.....please hel

    Can anyone help/advise?
I have just purchased a SB Audigy 4 sound card for my system. I cannot get the microphone to work on my Speedlink Medusa headset. This is especially frustrating as i use teamspeak alot for online fps gaming. The sound works fine and is crystal clear, but no input from the microphone. I have tried uninstalling the drivers and re-installing ...nothing. 5. Speakers work, 5. headphones work (i am getting very good clear sound, however the mic on the headset doesn't work. I have tried taking the mic out and putting back in the pink connector....nothing. I have tried messing around with the surround mixer (record device is set to mic)......what am i missing? Is it blatenly obvious?
I have NEVER had as many issues with a sound card before!!! Jeez creative come on and pull your finger out!
PS does anyone know what jumper does on the audigy 4?

  • Removing microphone crackle noise from a video

    Hi there,
Please could anyone offer some advice on how to remove a "crackly" noise from my video?  The "crackle" appears to have come from the microphone that was clipped to a shirt, and as the speaker moved, the microphone picked up and recorded the scraping noise!
I have had a go with the audio effects in Premiere Elements, but haven't had any luck removing the noise, unless the sound gets distorted.  I am new to Premiere Elements but have a gut feeling that I will probably need to re-record the speaker again.  I thought I would ask the question, just in case there was some method I haven't found / understand yet.
    Thank you

From within PrE, I think that you have gotten good advice. The ability to remove transients from Audio is a bit limited in a video-editor, and can take a lot of experimenting.
There is something a bit better, but requires additional programs to accomplish. Even then, experimenting and critical listening will be needed. The first is an inexpensive, but great audio program, Magix Audio Cleaning Lab. With just the default settings, it does an amazingly good job with such things, though might never be perfect. I then use Adobe Audition, which has a Transient Repair Tool, and must be applied by hand, for each Transient that remains. It is NOT inexpensive, but so very powerful. This ARTICLE will give you a bit more info, plus a link to the Magix program.
Also, I would check out what is inducing the crackle into the audio stream. Usually, this is because of a bad connection in the chain. Fixing things there, is the best course, for the future.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Audigy 2 Value - Crackling/Popping/

Quite a few people have had a crackling issue in their sound, but nothing I've searched turned up a solution for my situation. I'll explain a few things that have happened to me since I've had this problem.
First of all, when listening to music or playing games with software rendering sound, there is no crackling or popping. This only occurs when I play games using hardware/EAX rendering sound. The popping noises usually occur on louder sounds like explosions and such.
I've had this problem for awhile, and now it's starting to bug me as nothing I do can see to fix it, however I don't know that the card itself is broken.
I had bought a new power supply because the existing one I had was old and cheap, and the crackling problem mysteriously went away. So I shrugged it off, and was happy. I recently went out and bought a Radeon X700 Pro to replace my Radeon 9600se, and it seems the crackling has returned. It's almost like it is caused by some sort of interference, but how can I fix it then? Because of this, I have a surround sound system that is rendered useless for gaming.
    Current Specs
    =============
    Motherboard: Asus P4C800 Deluxe
    Processor: Pentium 4 3.2ghz Prescott
    Power Supply: 600w Ultra
Video Card: Radeon X700 Pro 256mb
    Sound Card: Audigy 2 Value
    Speakers: Altec Lansing 5.
If you see anything here that can cause this problem, please let me know. There has to be a way to fix this.
EDIT: Couple things to add. I've done the obvious things like moving the card to a different slot, or updating drivers to the latest.Message Edited by RatoN on -0-2005 0:35 AM

Well, I think the game with the most noticable problem is Half-Life 2 for me. Explosions sometimes come off louder than it should be with a terrible popping noise. It's just terrible.
The first time I had a crackling issue, I believe all games with hardware sound including Battlefield 2 and UT2004 were affected with the problem (The ones I remember off the top of my head anyway). This time around I tried Battlefield 2, Far Cry and UT2004, and it didn't have a noticable crackle. Only Half-Life 2 seems to suffer the exact same.
I'm not sure what you meant by the MIDI device and why it affects the sound, but switching that doesn't do anything for me.
EDIT: Okay, I just tested Half-Life 2 on the lowest settings and it appeared to help the crackle situation. HL2 did run at a more weaker frame rate than those other games I mentioned, but the frame rate was still playable anyway. I hate to think I have to reduce my graphic settings just to play with better sound.Message Edited by RatoN on -0-2005 :26 AM

  • Audigy 2 NX crackling / prob

    hi all,
i've got a huge problem with using audigy 2 nx:
audigy crackles every 5-0 seconds when using 5. with original or updated creative drivers.
using the standard windows driver, the audigy works fine, but only at 2.0. i've got an 5. surround system and i want to use it.
i tried everything with changing driver, deactivating several devices like onboard sound or wlan, modem or pcmcia slots. also unplugging all usb devices and using other usb-ports didn't work.
    my system:
    acer aspire 50 notebook
    athlon 64 3000+
    via k8t800
    52 mb
    mobility radeon 9600
    60 gb hdd
    usb 2.0
    xp sp 2
drivers also didn't work with xp sp and blank xp.
firmware is updated, but my audigy also didn't work properly with old firmware.
    bios is in newest revision.
my system is fast and the audigy 2 works fine on other systems and also with windows drivers.
so it must be the creative drivers that cause this problem.
i sent 3 times a request for support to creative, but i only got automatic standard-type responses that didn't solve the problem with helpful advices like: "update the drivers.." and so on
anybody here who has the same problems?
hey moderator-guys, do you have any ideas?
    thx for all posts!

I actually use the NX on a custom built PC and use all origional drivers. The only time i eva had problems with the drivers was when i Installed the NX before Service Pack 2
My System spec's can be viewed here if u really wanna check them

It shows all my drivers and is a detailed system report.

  • Audigy 4 - microphone not working with Ventr

Hello,?I have a brand-new SB Audigy 4. Pretty much everything works all right; I use headphones and I can hear everything just fine. However, I use a voice-chatting program called Ventrilo, and for some reason my friends cannot hear me speaking into my mic while I'm using that program. All of the Ventrilo settings are correct (confirmed working with another sound card). ?When I go to Sound and Audio Devices on the control panel, and go to the Voice tab, and click on the "Test Hardware" button, my mic will then work for literally about one minute (i.e. my friends can hear me via the program again). After that, they can no longer hear me because my mic has stopped working again. I have eliminated all other program factors, have updated my drivers, etc., and nothing works. I see that there are other people who have posted on this board with the same problem and have gotten basically no helpful answers. I have tried all of the solutions suggested to them as well, such as disabling my onboard audio, checking my BIOS for IRQ conflicts, doing a clean boot, reinstalling my drivers, and nothing worked for me. Here is a SS of my audio mixer in case someone needs to see it. http://www.theglasswolf.com/audiomixer.jpg? Note, the S/PDF-in and Auxiliary controls are unmuted right now because I was trying EVERYTHING to fix this issue. They normally would be?X-ed out. Is there anything that can be done, or is there some kind of permanent, unfixable conflict with Ventrilo/Teamspeak and the Audigy 4?

    Hey guys,
I do have the same problem and it makes me realy mad. I own the Audigy 2 ZS, what is a cool (verry expensi've soundcard in my country) soundcard and it doesnt work with Team speak. I do need it pretty much for Counter strike play.
Mic is ok, its on and pluged correctly. WIN XP does not even detect my mic in the hw check. Team speak work for a few minutes when I use Creative Restere Defaults, but afer I switch to the aplication (game) I want to use it for, Mic stop to work and I can only hear others.
    Pleeeeees Ill apriciate any sugestions.

  • Audigy 2 ZS Crackl

I'm hoping someone can help me. I've had speakers disconnected from my computer now for about 4 months. I hooked them back up, and all i get from my soundcard is rice crispies. No matter what is going on.... its just snap crackle pop. I tried updating the driver, no luck. Tried headphones, still crackle. Can anyone shed some light on why it would have been working perfectly before, but now its not?
    Fitzy

Don't really have an answer for you. But I did want to let you know you are not alone in this. I have the same problem with the same card. However, mine seems to come and go. You seem to have the problem all the time. Have you tried different drivers yet? Also, I resorted to removing the card completely and then re-installing it fresh. Like I said though, the problem is still there, just not always present. Good luck.
