Audigy Throbbing & Hissing in Game

I have had a SB Audigy (the original I guess) for over 5 years and had no "issues" with it playing World of Warcraft on a P4 XP system with 2Gb of DDR, dual 80Gb EIDE dri'ves and an old NVIDIA card.
Last weekend, I built a new system using an Intel mobo, Core 2 Duo, 300Gb SATA HDD, NVIDIA 9500GT PCIe, 4Gb of DDR2 and a new 650W PSU (which exceeds system requirements by 250W). I formatted the HDD and did a "clean install" of Windows XP (Home), updated to SP3 and all "critical" updates. I installed the Audigy card, front-panel "dri've" and ran the auto-run from the Audigy installation CD. I am running only 2 desktop speakers with a subwoofer, so 5. is not an issue for me. I just want "normal" sound, not full-immersion "Star Wars" THX or whatever... Just normal stereo sound. There is nothing else connected to this PC- no HDMI TV, no digital sound outputs, nothing. Just 2 speakers and a monitor.
Everything worked fine until I went to play WoW- as soon as the login screen appeared, I got a rhythmic, regular (like a marching drumbeat) throbbing sound, frequently punctuated by horrible pops, screeches and a continuous hissing static in the background, with the WoW music struggling to be heard below all of that. I checked and unchecked "Use Hardware" in the WoW sound settings, but nothing changed at all. This persisted as long as I was in-game (which wasn't long, what with my ears bleeding and all), and stopped the minute I logged out of WoW. I am NOT running 2 graphics cards in SLI- just one, with a single display. I have a brand new system with a clean install of everything.
So I went back to Windows Update and installed the latest Creative?driver package (from Windows Update, not directly from Creative). After reboot, I had no sound of any description from my Audigy. Device Manager reported everything Creative was installed and "working," but I had no sound at all. So I uninstalled all Creative apps and drivers, using Add-Remove Programs *and* Device Manager on each Creative device, rebooted, and re-installed everything from the 5-year-old Creative Audigy CD-ROM. Sound began working immediately.... until I logged back in to World of Warcraft, at which point... [LOOP to preceding paragraph].
I have read several threads here, none of which seems to apply to my situation- probably because I have an older Audigy card and all the gamer whiz-bangs have long since left that technology in their wake. The thread on troubleshooting is hopelessly out of date, doesn't even mention SATA dri'ves and cites Pentium-era?BIOS settings that haven't been available on more recent mobos for years. Nonetheless, I checked for interrupt conflicts (none) and disabled Serial and Parallel ports, onboard video and audio as suggested in that thread; and I also moved the card to the PCI slot furthest away from the graphics card, as suggested in that thread. None of the other BIOS settings mentioned there are even available on this new mobo. The same Audigy card and software worked FINE two days ago in my old system, including playing World of Warcraft. Now it doesn't, leading to the inescapable conclusion that the card is fine, but there is something in its (or WoW's) settings causing it to freak out in my new PC.
I have updated ALL chipset drivers and BIOS to the latest available on Intel's website, with no effect. Onboard sound and video are both disabled in BIOS and thus don't even appear in Device Manager. I am VERY reluctant to install newer Creative drivers because every time I have done?that over the past 5 years or so, the sound stops working completely and I have to either try to "Roll Back Driver" (which generally crashes the machine) or uninstall and then re-install everything from the original Audigy CDR. I would very much appreciate some specific information on settings (Audigy settings, BIOS settings, Registry hacks, whatever) to make this card work in World of Warcraft on an Intel mobo/chipset Core 2 Duo machine.
Thanks-

Yes, the game is Call of Duty 2I don't know the codec,I use the EAX for games for the Audigy. But even when I turn off everthing (audio wise) I still get the video lag, shutter effect. I pulled out the card, unloaded the drivers, put in my 24 bit li've..no problems. Uninstalled 24 bit li've, reinstalled Audigy...problems again.Allso? JTLYK... I did purchase a "Refub" Audigy from the Creative store.

  • Audigy 2 ZS Crashes Games, Supreme Commander won't even load a m

I have a Creative Audigy 2 ZS and for some reason it seems to be the reason behind many game crashes. Often the crashes are accompanied by a looping sound after the game even closes. I have uninstalled the dri'ves and reinstalled the original I have from 2005. I tried to change its slot in the motherboard but it still doesn't work correctly. Supreme Commander will not even load the map for instance but if I disable the card it loads fine but then I have no sound to play with. What can be the problem? I have a Dell with
    P4 3.0
    Gig ram
    Nvidia 6800 256 MB
    Please help

I am also experiencing a problem with Supreme Commander on a SB Audigy 2 card. I get no sound at all or sometimes random buzzing or clicking noise. I think it is likely?an issue with the game since every other title seems to work very well on my system. The wierd thing is that I installed SupCom on my other PC that has a SB Li've 24 Bit card and it works!? Unfortunately the RAM and Video card on the secondary system are not good enough to play with reasonable FPS. Can anyone at Creative tell us if the no sound or crash issue is a title specific one, or if it applies to the Audigy cards? THQ are claiming to be working on a patch, but are a less specific about if the patch will address SB card problems. Thx. • Odd sound change in some games

Background: I recently installed Windows XP, and updated the drivers using the Creative Updater on the support site. since then whenever i run a specific game (DiabloII in this situation) the sound automatically gets louder and degraded. Previously I was running windows 98 with the .vxd version drivers without any issues. This occurs regardless of whether EAX/AudioHQ is installed or not. Originally I tried a driver upgrade installation, since then I've also tried a clean installation of the drivers with the same results..
sound card: Soundblaster Audigy (not mp3, platinum, gamer etc...) / 5.2.5.44 version drivers.
I've seen a couple of posts regarding the EAX control panel and settings while running some games. In the posts I've read, when AudioHQ is installed there is no ability to change the EAX settings while the game runs. Previous posts have suggested a clean installation of the drivers to remedy the issue, which does not seem to work in this case.
Mostly this is affecting me due to the fact i run a minidisc player on the line in jack. Even though I change the source of the line in settings, so that the line in doesn't use the master settings, the line in is still affected. In windows 98, if a game attempted to override the eax settings this was the fix i used.
    Any suggestions are appreciated.

Is it all apps or just some games. Some games have their own sound settings. If it is all apps, you may have system sounds muted.
If you lose sounds for keyboard clicks, games or other apps, email notifications and other notifications, system sounds may have been muted.
System sounds can be muted and controlled two different ways. The screen lock rotation can be controlled in the same manner as well.
Settings>General>Use Side Switch to: Mute System sounds. If this option is selected, the switch on the side of the iPad above the volume rocker will mute system sounds.
If you choose Lock Screen Rotation, then the switch locks the screen. If the screen is locked, you will see a lock icon in the upper right corner next to the battery indicator gauge.
If you have the side switch set to lock screen rotation then the system sound control is in the task bar. Double tap the home button and in the task bar at the bottom, swipe all the way to the right. The speaker icon is all the way to the left. Tap on it and system sounds will return.
If you have the side switch set to mute system sounds, then the screen lock rotation can be accessed via the task bar in the same manner as described above.
This support article from Apple explains how the side switch works.

  • Audigy and ddts-

After i opened the box today and hooked up the ddts to my promedia 5. ultras....i was very happy. I am running my ps2 into it with a toslink, and it sounds great. I have a audigy regular (mp3 or gamer), and the only setup I can get to work with it is with the digital coax and the converter to /8, HOWEVER, when using the digital coax i do NOT have the option of anything but stereo! I got the ddts mainly for up-mixing my mp3s. Can you get anything else (ie prologic, or neo6? is there a better way to hook them up? I tried using an old cable i had laying around from an old minidisk player that has one side /8th and the other toslink, however I'm not sure if it even works correctly in this application. I tried hooking up from the audigy to the ddts with a /8th to rca, and could not get any sound, except for some buzzing in the center channel. I also recieved today my creative audigy 2 zs notebook, however my dell inspiron 9200 wont get here for a few days . Will I have similiar problems with this? If it turns out my toslink to /8th cable is faulty my plan was to go buy a toslink cable and the /8th converter and use it that way. Will that work properly with my new notebook and/or my current desktop? My goal was to have all three components (ps2, notebook, desktop) hooked up digitally (I love anything and everything 5., including my mp3s). Should I be having this problem with my audigy and the digital coax? Should the /8th to rca work?
    Thanks a lot,
    Mike

Analog output on the soundcard --> DDTS-100 switchbox
    Switchbox --> DDTS-100 main unit
    Switchbox --> Speakers
Digital out on the soundcard --> Coaxial input on the DDTS-100 main unit
The digital output on the soundblaster can ONLY SEND OUT EITHER A PCM STEREO SIGNAL OR AN ENCODED DATA STREAM (AC-3). In order to make the DDTS-100 decode the data stream correctly you MUST have the software set to SPDIF passthrough and also have that set in the Audio HQ or the Audio console. Put the switchbox to decoder mode. The only way to light up the lights of the DTS and Dolby Digital is to feed the main unit with an encoded data stream of those sound formats. If you try to play anything and put it through the digital out that is not DTS or DD you are going to get... Stereo.
In order to get sound from the side speakers you must first set the switch on the back of the DDTS-100 main unit to 6.1/7.1 and set the upmix to 5.1-->7.1 or 6.1-->7.1 (depending on the source) on the main volume controller of the S750.

  • Still no fixes for Audigy 2zs problem

I still have major issues with my Audigy 2zs in many games, yet I still see absolutely no updates on the drivers. Have you completely abandoned you customers now?
If I install your bloatware to get the functionality, I get crash after crash, yet if I just use the driver, I get only 4 hardware voices, and many sounds are simply dropped. This is in World of Warcraft, Doom 3, Unreal 2, Unreal Tournament 2003, Diablo 2, and even games as simple as Bejeweled 2!
As long as you continue to leave your old bugs in place, I will not support buying any of your new products. I will continue to tell people that your products are crap because you refuse to actually support them. If Nvidia or ATI had pulled this ind of crap with their products, they would have gone under by now. We've already seen this happen with 3dFX and S3. Don't you people learn from history?

I just recently found out about the VIA and Creative problems in the past. I know the SiS chipset is good too! I had this 2zs card in an Asus SiS chipset motherboard and it worked flawlessly. Now, in this VIA chipset motherboard, I'm having all kinds of trouble. I can't justify buying a new motherboard when I only bought this motherboard 2-4 months ago! I wish I knew of these issues before buying a motherboard with a VIA chipset!!
Does anyone know of a solution or know if Creative is even working on a solution? That Beta driver's been out for more than a month now! I hope when the final revision of that driver comes out, it will address this issue! If not, I don't know what I'm going to do!!
And with all the problems I've seen people having with the X-fi cards, I'm not even going to consider going in that direction (especially since a lot of people having trouble with the X-fi card have motherboards with the VIA chipsets).
Any help is greatly appreciated! I've spent countless hours searching the web for an answer (which is something I shouldn't have to do in the first place, but that's another story) and have come up with nothing! The ONLY reason why I'm sticking with this Creative card is because I really like EAX in my PC games, and especially EAX Advanced HD 4.0! When functioning properly (which is not as often as I'd like), it sounds amazing!!

  • So I have two models of Audigy cards

One is an Audigy 2, the other is an Audigy SE. One I have had for many years, and the other came standard with a new machine I bought. I hear that the Audigy SE has no Digital Signal Processor, so it takes tad more CPU power off of my quad core Q6600. The Audigy 2 has a Game Port which is totally unusable under Vista (I figure that there is no jumper to totally disable it), but I can use it under XP. So which card should I use? I was planning to use the older Audigy 2, but apart from not being able to turn off the port on the card itself how can one turn on the IEEE394 connector (if it isn't already acti've by default, I haven't checked).Message Edited by Malkor on 04-8-2008 06:26 PM

If you right-click on the movie in iTunes, you can select Show in Finder. Then, you can drag it into a project in iMovie.
The quality of those movies will not be as good as the original since the versions in iTunes have been compressed. If you have the original projects or events in iMovie, it would be best to start from them.

  • Extreme Music phase o

I'm interested in the Extreme Music card, but notice that it's not available for sale at us.creative.com. Nor is it at Best Buy online. Anybody know what's up with that??And if it is available, can someone give me a reason why I would prefer it over the ExtremeGamer? I mostly listen to music and like the fact that the Gamer would connect to my Intel front panel headphone jack. Listening on headphones, which I do a lot, would be a pain with the Extreme Music - My Boston Acoustics speakers don't have a headphone jack, which would mean that I would have to swap cables or get a splitter to use my headphones. Since the two cards have essentially the same feature set, is there any real world advantage of the Music over the Gamer? Thanks!

"We now have the Extreme Audio and Extreme Gamer."
    errr
"We now have the Audigy LS and Extreme Gamer."
Well that's a pickle... Xtreme Music gets discounted after one and a half year but yet, Audigy LS is still with us and even gets rebranded to X-Fi Xtreme.. just because CL has a lot old stock of it's
    whoosh
Why did they get rid of Xtreme Music? Because it was the best-seller. Low price, same features and performance as a lot more expensi've Fatalty. Great trick - forcing people to buy Fatalty Gamer or Audigy LS because they still have them in stock.Message Edited by crazyandlazy on -30-20060:33 PM

  • NEW WINDOWS INSTALL, Do i need driv

Hi, I am new to these forums so please be patient with me. I just reformatted my pc and just put on windows xp pro. Do I need sound drivers for my audio to work? Right now, with no drivers, it doesn't work. But the last time I had formatted I hadn't installed drivers and the sound worked perfectly.
I have a Sound Blaster Audigy card, think its gamer or mp3+, because Audigy told me that i should install either Gamer or MP3+ drivers on their site.
    Thanx

yes you need drivers. last time you had it in, you probably let windows automatically find the right drivers for it.

  • SB Audigy 2 ZS, Sound fades into a crackle then hiss and squea

Okay I have been unable to find anything on these forums about my problem. So I am posting to see if anyone has had a similiar expereince. I will list my specs to refer to.
    My system is as follows:
    AMD 64 3700+ 2.2GHz@ 2.6GHz
    ASUS AN8-E nForce4 Mobo
    Gb DualChanel KingstonVR (2x52)
    SB Audigy 2 ZS ----> latest Driver's
    PowerColor X900XT 52MB
Okay my problem is I am playing games usally HL2 and now Oblivion and It will play perfectly fine for a time and either one Freeze with a sound squeal requring reboot. Or the sound will decrese to crackling and then to High Pitched squeals and hiss's, which make me rebbot and all's fine agian.
It dosn't happen listening to MP3's orw while just browsing. Only in games. Any help would be appreciated.
    Chris

    George,
Try uninstalling all your Norton applications and follow by cleansweep your sound card software/driver. The steps to cleansweep your sound card can be found with this Knowledgebase article SID72. After you have done both, install the sound card driver/application first using the installation CD. Ensure that the sound card is function fine. After which, install your Norton software.

  • Audigy Gamer driver iss

I cannot get the latest drivers for the Audigy Gamer (E400) to work correctly with my card no matter what I do. I'm running off a clean WinXP install with SP2. I installed AUD_EAX4DRV_0303.exe, then updated my AudioHQ, then installed AUD_WEBUP_PCWDRV_-84-40.exe. Upon installation I get sound, my mixer works, and AudioHQ works (EQ, ENV, FX presets all funciton). But when any game attempts to use EAX, I get no sound. If I alt-tab out of the game, and load AudioHQ, all of my ENV, EQ, and FX settings are blank. As soon as I exit the game, AudioHQ returns to normal and my sound returns. I've tried updating drivers every way possible, and nothing's changed. I have to use old drivers, and the old drivers produce very poor EAX effects, if any, but they are the only drivers that actually function fully.
    System Specs:
    MSI KT3 Ultra2 (Via KT333)
    AthlonXP 800+
    52 MB PC2700
    40 GB WD 7200RPM
    40 GB Maxtor 7200RPM
    Audigy Gamer (E400)
    MSI GeForce 3 Ti 200
    DirectX 9.0c
    Windows XP Professional w/SP2
If there is anybody out there who has gotten this card to work correctly, i'd very much appreciate your guidance. The lack of driver support on this card is pathetic to say the least, and it does not give me any encouragement to ever purchase a Creative Labs card again. I know there are ways to use Audigy 2 drivers with this card, but i'd like to first hear if there are any real fixes for this card.
    Thanks for any help!

    Avenger55,
The problem that you are dealing with here is that the original driver CD you have predates Windows XP. It is possible to get the CD install to work under XP by doing what we discussed earlier, however it appears there may be a third detail that is causing the trouble here. I noticed that you are running a VIA chipset, are you running the latest version of the Hyperion 4 in drivers? If not you should go to www.viaarena.com and get the update. The newest drivers should work with your system without trouble as long as the system is up to date.
You might also consider ordering our latest install CD for the Audigy as it contains the latest drivers for the Audigy along with all of the updated software. You can order it from our Direct Sales department who can be contacted at -800-998-000 option #.

  • Audigy LS - Not being recognized by gam

I have Windows XP, SP2 with Direct X 9c installed.
There is integrated sound (AC 97) on the motherboard, but I disabled it in the BIOS settings of the board. BUT... I am getting distorted sounds in many games (Dawn of War for example) and all games that support the much vaunted EAX for this card (like ALL <B>Lucasarts</B> games) treat my system as not having EAX. When I do a system scan from Knights of the Old Republic it does NOT detect the Audigy LS, but for some reason thinks that the AC 97 is still there...
Current drivers for the LS are installed. - Have even UNINSTALLED and reinstalled them.
    Any ideas?
Unfortunately my motherboard manual is really less than helpful in general. The only setting I can find for the integrated card is set to disabled, so I really do think it is.
Could there be a DRIVER that could be conflicting?
I had also noticed a post from someone else with DirectX 9c and Battlefronts ( a <B>Lucasarts</B> game) on this boards, something about the card no longer being recognized... is there an issue with the creative line and DirectX 9c? I see the card when I do a DXDIAG and no AC 97 there...
