Audigy ZS versus PCI

About a month ago I bought this Audigy ZS card, hoping to improve the sound quality of my recordings (I am a musician).
However, the quality only got poorer after I installed this card. Far worse than the Q that I got from my old SB PCI 28 card, which is approx. 4. years old now.
The sound recorded is extremely dull, as if I had been playing or singing with a piece of cloth wrapped around the mic!
For the record: I use a SuperLux Condensor microphone, plugged with XLR cables and phantom power to a Behringer mixing console, plugged with gold plated tulip cables to the line-in of my pc.
I record the sound input with a multi-track software program called Cakewalk GuitarTracks, a tool specially designed for recording and processing the guitar.
I have been fiddling around with all kinds of settings, such as the EAX console (turning all the settings on and off, and on again) as well as the built-in chorus and reverb.
Still, the sound quality of recordings made through this card are by no means acceptable as compared to the relati'vely high quality I got through my old card.
Does this sound familiar to anyone, or does anyone have, or think to have some valuable information?
greetings

Have you also download the audio console software? You will need that you configure the card.

  • Audigy(1) Platinum PCI Not Detected By Installation CD In New Desk

Hello, I just updated to a new computer and pulled my Audigy Platinum SB0090 (with the front dri've panel) out of my old system and installed it in my new systemell E52 (AMD dual core)Windows XP SP23GB memory?) I disabled the onboard sound in the BIOS.2) Installed the Audigy Sound PCI card and dri've panel.3) Upon boot, Windows XP installs the Firewire and Gameport automatically. I tell it "no" when it prompts my to install audio device drivers.4) I try to install the current Audigy Platinum drivers from here, SBAX_WBUP2_LB_2_09_006, but it tells me no Audigy is detected and won't install.5)?I try to install the drivers from my original installation CD (PN: 220ML0003067) and am also?told that my?Audigy is not detected.6) The new PC has two PCI slots, 3 and 4. is PCIe6, 2 is PCIe. I've tried both PCI slots to no avail. The BIOS shows an audio device in whatever slot it is in. Partial Solution:7)? I went ahead a told Windows XP to search for drivers and it'sdid find?them on the original installation CD and installed them. I now have basic operations, but no dri've panel access. However, both installers above still cannot detect the Audigy. In Device Manager I now show:- Sound, video and game controllers-- Audio Codecs-- Creative Audigy Audio Processor (WDM)-- Creative Gameport-- Legacy Audio Drivers-- Legacy Video Capture Devices-- Media Control Devices-- Video Codecs? All of the above devices are working properly. Apparently I will not be able to easily get these installers to work. Is there a way I can manually?install the drivers neccessary to get current and full functionality of my Audigy and front dri've panel? Thanks

  • Hard disk drive versus PCIe-based flash storage

I am trying to decide whether or not I want to get a regular MacBook Pro or a MacBook Pro with retina. I understand that the SSDs have less of a chance of failure (which is great because I've had a hard drive crash before) and that they run faster, but I don't know if I can deal with less storage space. If it's really worth it, I guess I would be able to fork over more for the higher storage SSDs, but I want to first know more about my options (ie, about how much stuff can I really fit onto each of the storage levels, does the storage amount go further on the SSDs, etc). Personal opinions are welcome! Thank you!

If your storage needs will fit on an SSD and you can afford it then it will speedup your Mac considerably.
Consider the size of your storage needs carefully.  New rMBPs are not upgradable so you would need to live with the size of the SSD you would choose.  How much storage do you use now on your Mac or PC?  Are you planning to increase your media use (music, photos, movies)?  Media is the biggest disk space usage for many users.
Personally, when I had a 128 GB SSD I was cramped.  I upgrade to a Mac with a 256 GB SSD and now my 140 GB of used space fits OK.  I have about 60 GB of music and photos and not much used for movies.  I have a lot of old files going back a decade and half that I don’t bother to clean out because that would be a pain.  My girlfriend uses only 60 GB and I plan to upgrade your machine to a 128 GB SSD.  A 512 GB SSD would be wonderful but they are pricey.
On reliability:  SSDs will survive shocks better but they have their own failure modes.  I have had one fail in my Mac.  So whichever way you go, backups are essential.  Maintaining two backups is prudent.
13” rMBP prices:  Purchasing at least 8 GB of RAM is prudent.  If you count that in then a 256 GB SSD costs only $100 more.

  • Audigy 2 ZS vs Audigy 2 ZS Platinum PCI Card

Is there any differnce between the PCI cards for these two versions of the Audigy 2 ZS product? I have the Audigy 2 zs Platinum and I think my PCI card failed. I want to know if the Audigy 2 ZS PCI card will work as a replacement.

Standard Audigy 2 ZS and the platinum edition have exactly the same PCB,so you can use the standard PCI card as a replacement.
Only the platinum PRO has different PCB.

  • New system, MSI X800XT PCI-E Issues

    Hi there!
I just bought a new motherboard, new ram, new cpu and new videocard and was eagerly wanting to set this stuff up.
My system is now as follows:
    Motherboard: MSI 925X Neo-54G
    CPU: P4 3.40Ghz (1 Mb L2 Cache) (Socket 775)
    RAM: 1 GByte DDR2 533
    Video Card: MSI RX800 XT-VTD256 (ATI Radeon X800XT PCI-E)
I put everything up and working and installed Windows XP w/ SP2. Installed every driver needed from the motherboard CD, went to ATI's site and downloaded the latest Catalyst Drivers, etc.
After having everything apparently working as it should, I downloaded 3dMark 2005 to see how it went. I had never used the 2005 version before so I wasn't too shocked to see it only got like 3200 points although I was kinda suspicious after seeing some of the tests going at like 1 fps.
I went back to another PC I have at home (a socket 478, P4 3.0Ghz, Asus P4C800 mobo, 1 GByte DDR400 Ram and a GeForce 6800 Ultra). Ran 3dMark 2005 and to my amazement, it got like 4400 points.
Well, double checked everything on the catalyst control panel (nothing really useful there)... then went back to the BIOS setup to investigate what is not working as it should. MSI boards have that nifty Dynamic Overclocking thing and so I turned it on. My BIOS settings are now as following (only listing settings I have doubts on):
DDR2 533 (Dual Channel Mode Enabled)
    DRAM Timing Selectable: By SPD
    Memory Hole: Disabled
PCI Express Root Port Func: Auto on all 4 ports
    PCI-E Compliance Mode: v1.0a
    DRAM Data integrity mode: Non-ECC
    PCI IDE Busmaster: Enabled (I have a 250GB 8MB SATA HD,fyi)
    Init Display First: PCI-E
    Maximum Payload Size (PCI-E): 4096
High performance mode: Optimized (Manual is the other option)
    Dynamic Overclocking: 5% (0-15% range)
    Adjust DDR Frequency: Auto
    Auto Detect PCI Clock: Enabled
    Spread Spectrum: Disabled
    CPU Clock: 200Mhz
    CPU Voltage: By CPU default
    Memory Voltage: 1.8v
    AGP/PCI-E Voltage: 1.5v
Ok, so, can anyone tell me what is wrong (if anything)? I mean, I think this PC should be faster than my other one...
I'm not really interested in overclocking and I am really convinced this hardware should be able to beat my other one easily with default operating status.
Also, I tested this PC's performance with Rome: Total War and it is just as 3dMark had showed, it performs worse than the other pc I mentioned, with the same exact settings.
    Any help please?
    Regards!

  • No audio in Windows 7 64bit with Audigy 4 Pro and Inspire 7.1 speakers

Hi, this is my first post in this forum. This issue is killing me?
    Configuration:
    Intel Core i7 920 2.66Ghz
    DDR3 600Mhz PC2800 6GB Corsair XMS3 Classic CL9 Skt366
    Samsung TB HD03SJ 7200rpm 32MB Spinpoint F3
    Mobo ASUS 366 P6T SE
New Windows 7 installation, no upgrade, so everything?s new. Realtek HD integrated audio chipset works fine, so the speakers are ok. Obviously I want my 2005 Audigy 4 back, especially for its external box.
I can't get any audio out of my speakers, zero, nothing, nada. Windows 7 recognizes it and if I run the control panel?s tests the equalizer shows that music is playing but still I won?t ear a single note.
    I tried everything:
-I checked Windows mixer, the output was correct and no ?mute? was selected, no SPDIF, no optical etc etc
    -I deactivated the Realtek
-I tried to put the Audigy in different PCI slots?
-I tried the latest Creative drivers?
    -I tried unofficial drivers?
    What should I do now?
    Maybe I could try:
-Updating the mobo bios. I don?t really want to do it unless it'ss absolutely necessary. My mobo is quite new anyway and from its bios updates I can't see nothing related to pci slots or audio issues.
-Playing around with the drivers: maybe I?m wrong, but I?suspect that, while installing creative drivers, every time I restart the system Windows 7 re-check the audio card and puts its Creative Audigy WDM? driver. I?m not too sure about this: from Windows device manager it seems that the drivers are updated and running.
    Any ideas?

    JProblem solved.
Apparently there was a clash between Windows 7 driver (?) and the one from Creative.
I had to use a specific software in order?to delete creative drivers and software.
After the erase of every piece of junk I could install creative official drivers.
Audio playback is fine, still I have s?to test recording...

  • How to install me new audigy Se c

  • Line-in only outputs to front speakers (Audigy 2

I have a problem that has me at my wits end. At one time this was working perfectly for me. Now the ONLY thing that will not work is my Line-in to my Audigy 2NX. When I use the Line-in i only get sound from the front 2 speakers of my 5. sounds system.
Everything else works fine (Winamp, Media Player, etc). I have verified CMSS is enabled, removed and reinstalled the software, replaced the device with a new one, all the way to formatting and reinstalling my system. No matter what the line-in only plays from the front 2 speakers. Any help would be appreciated.

Can't Agree with you on that one Jeremy. I had had Creative Labs for the past 8 or so years. I went to USB after my SB audigy 2ZS?pci card. st was Sound Blaster Li've 24 bit external, got cmss upmix from the line in, was great to watch movies and tv. this current upgrade?I just got to audigy 2NX external, there is only stereo true, which is ashame and a sham.
Leaving all the spare time I am about to reclaim?from spending time installing?and the hair pulling with VISTA, it saddens me that even with the new driver support, even though the onboard sound I have with my gateway will do 5. surround from the line in, at a far less?quality, its at least something which is not what I have come to?expect out of?Creative. I will use the usb audigy 2nx?to play my audio files, which it does?far better better quality than the onboard sound provided by the 9600 phenom 32 bit vista product or the sb li've 24 bit.
I would have been willing to ante up 5 to 0 dollars a year for creative to keep up with drivers, but as a musician, on a limited budget due to disability from stroke, with enough cogniti've remnants to post, the digital world is becoming a nickel a dime a person to death. Wish consumers could charge back our time spent dealing with?the?failures of the PC/Digital world to execute solutions either intentionally or unintentionally and in a timely manner. Not threatening anyone with this next statement but there are laws within a few states called the "law of fraudulent conveyance" that is on the books which would?clear up the subprime fiasco?and I am writing to my attorney general and congress and senate to see that they consider it in the digital world to include software/ hardware applications?across the board.
I had such High regard for Creative, now they will have to EARN my respect back and my money. after 52 reformats and installs over the past 8 years, the digital world can take a hike to a black hole. Having programmed in?the higher languages back in the late seventies, what I see going on is uncalled for that being said with full appreciation for what the digital world can provide --but I am not a servant to the digital world---it is Creative's Privledge to have my business and to do business in the USA---I am not here to work for them.

  • SB Audigy 2 ZS and "clicks" on sou

    Hi there!
I am new in this forum and noob to use search engine and don't know what is correct english word for this "electrical clicks" ("napsuminen" in finnish).
So, I have new Audigy 2 ZS PCI on my Windows XP SP2 machine. Card is on slot 4 on my MSI 865 PE mobo. Early audio card was SB Li've! Value in same slot and with same 4 speakers. But now this new Audigy 2 ZS have this electrical clicks problems.
In Control panel I can tell that there the day is 8.0.2004 (day, month, year) and version is 5.2.2.444. I have installed first drivers from CD and after booting installed with Creative web site auto-upgrading system something and booted again. So, today (5.6.2005) is wednesday and I am using the newest driver what in Creative web site.
Question: Is this problem in hardware or software? I cannot wait many days becouse I can return this sound card to store with faulty (guarantee/ guarantly etc. on english).
So help plz. In other I am happy with this sound card and willing to keep it. But clicks are too much.
    -EmDzei

    Hi EmDzei
Have a search through forums about pops, clicks, cracking sound, static etc... You will find that you are not the only one experiencing this problem.
I personally have it too. And am not sure what is the problem. But I seriously think its the driver problem as if you use some third party drivers such as www.kxproject.com you will not experience such problems. So, for the time being, just bear with it. And hopefully creative will fix it soon.
I am very annoyed with it too. What no can do.. ;(

  • Audigy 2 ZS on Asus P5B DELUXE WIFI

Hi,?Recentrly i bought a Asus p5b deluxe wifi, and i want to install my sound blaster audigy 2 zs. When i inserted the driver cd in to install the driveres, some error messagem appeared saying that any audigy 2 zs was intalled in my computer. I?ve changed the audigy to another pci slot, and the error still appears. Could you help me with this?Sorry my english, im from Portugal. Thanks.

I put the sound card in the pci slot. Then i turn on the computer. Windows detects the sound card. I put the cd driver, and then, when i start the instalacion it appears something like this " Setup error , it was not detected any audigy 2 sound card in the computer, and the installation will quit". Yes i disable the on board sound card in the BIOS. When i try to install by the device manager, it installs the WDM driver, and nothing more. The firewire and game port are not installed. And appears this in the device manager " SM .....controller " (i dont know the word in the middle) followed by device error icon (that yellow one).

  • P965 Platinum + Audigy 2 ZS or X-Fi Conflicts

    Hey there.
Hopefully someone can help me workout a small issue I've been having for awhile.
    I'm running the following:
    Intel Core2 Duo E6600 2.4Ghz
    MSI P965 Platinum
    2x Geil 1Gb DDR2-800
    XFX nvidia 7950GT 512Mb
    2x LG IDE DVD-RW drives
    320Gb SATA Seagate Cuda.
    and either:
Creative Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS (PCI) or
    Creative Soundblaster X-Fi oem (PCI)
My problem is the same with either Soundcard.
If either of the IDE DVD-RW drives are in use, ie when I'm copying or viewing data on a CD or DVD or burning a DVD or CD, and I'm playing music, watching metacafe or youtube, or playing a game my sound starts stuttering & skipping really really badly, wether . I can get around the problem by not having any sound playing when I use the DVD-RW drives, but this is a bit of a pain, and is surely avoidable.
It seems like there is a conflict between my IDE channel (which there is only one of) and any PCI sound card I install.
    Any idea's ? Anyone ?

  • Audigy 2 ZS: unknown device (game po

    Hello,
I just installed my SB Audigy 2 ZS PCI card under Windows Vista Ultimate 32 bit Service Pack.
    Vista Driver downloaded from Creative:
    Version 2.2.0002
Now there is still an unknown device in the device manager. It's the game port of the Audigy 2 ZS card.
Where can I get a proper driver or how can I solve that problem?
    thanks,
    -phazer-

If you don't use the gameport you can always just ignore it. It won't hurt anything having nothing installed.
If it bothers you so much that you think you need to fix it you can try this,
    http://forums.creative.com/showthread.php?t=3336
Seeing as gameports aren't really supported under Vista it is up to you whether it is worth the effort or not.

  • GD580 + Audigy 2 ZS + Digital Out 5.1 = only stereo

Alright, I didn't think this would be so complicated, but maybe it is. I just purchased a Creative Inspire GD580 5.1 surround speaker setup. I have an Audigy 2 ZS PCI sound card. I want to connect the digitial out to my speaker setup using the digital out on my Audigy 2 ZS. My main reason for the surround setup is for gaming. So far I have only been able to get stereo sound with both gaming AND DVD movies.
Anyone who can enlighten me on how to do this, I would be very grateful.
    Thanks!

Optical and digital coax connections can't carry multichannel audio, only stereo. The only way to get multichannel via digital is if it is an AC3 bitstream. Creative also use a 4-pole connector that can carry multichannel digital but your speakers must have a digital DIN connection to use this feature. Otherwise for games, you must use the analogue connections. For your movies, you can use your digital connection, but you must select SPDIF output in the DVD software and select SPDIF pass through in the soundcard options. This way your speakers will decode the AC3 bitstream.
You might want to look at this: http://us.creative.com/support/kb/ar...p?l=2&sid=5035
A suggestion to Creative moderators: I think it would be a good idea for Creative to supply a guide with the sound cards and speakers on the various types of connections. Stuff like the capabilities/limitations of each connection and details on AC3 and the way games output audio. There seems to be so many people confused by the multitude of connection possibilities (I was at first).
