Audigy4 Pro - Dolby Digital Li

In my effort to further simplify connections in my home theater, I would like to be able to have surround sound gaming (EAX) pass through my optical connection to my reciever as Dolby Digital just like DVDs and WMV/Xvid/etc... I know that none of the current SoundBlasters do this out of the box, but are there any hardware or software modifications that can be done to the card/driver for me do this? It seems that such a capable card should be able to convert EAX to DD. I love the card, but I'm going to wind up switching to another line in a few weeks if I can't find a solution. I just do not want to run six cables from my PC to my receiver and then have to switch my receiver from DVD to 6-Channel input every time I start a game or listen to music or watch a movie.
If I'm just beating a dead horse, does anyone know when or if Creative will unveil a sound card with the ability to encode Dolby Digital in real time? I haven't had a computer without a Creative sound card in it in over a decade, so if something is coming soon, I can hold out for a little while...

you must think that dolby digital is not a no loss codec
analog 5. is no loss!!! thats the point i think
from that point analog is better than li've ac3(but thats just for we germans call they beamte:-)))
but i apreciate? a li've ac3 encoder too because its more easy to use than the three to 4 audio cables
my english is bad sorry

  • Premiere Pro CC, Dolby Digital License missing for MTS / AVCHD audio import?

    Hi,
I'm running Premiere Pro CC on Mac 10.8.4 importing MTS files captured on a new Panasonic V720 Camcorder that records MTS / AVCHD files.
When I add the files to my project or drop them onto the timeline, the video appears fine but there's no audio and I get the warning message:
"This installation does not have a license to decode Dolby Digital audio".
I've tried switching from 5.1 to 2-channel audio on the camera in case that was the issue, no change.
The file plays fine on the mac with VLC player or MPlayer - mplayer is decoding audio with the FFmpeg AC-3 codec. I've imported MTS files created with other cameras (but presumably with different audio codecs) into Premiere fine with my current setup.
Any suggestions for getting this video and audio to work correctly?
    Thanks!

Hey guys, thanks for the responses.  I have checked my audio preference settings and don't really see anything in there that looks helpful...the following are my settings:
The LG TV is actually hooked up through a 7.1 receiver...I'm not sure why it registers the home theater unit as the tv....but 5.1 does play through my PC just fine with every other program.
I've been playng around with the various export settings and have found that I can successfully export 5.1 audio using the H.264 preset and switching the channels in the audio tab to 5.1.  You cannot, however, do the same with the H.264 Blu-ray preset as it requires the above mentioned SurCode for compression.  I'm guessing that means the non-Blu-ray preset is then uncompressed?
The projects that I'm setting up are very basic.  I'm just using a single mp3 import and snapping it to one of the rear speakers.  While editing, the sound does fade from the front channels but nothing comes out of the rear channels.
I guess I'm just having a hard time understanding why PPCC can export 5.1 but not play it back while editing....
    Thanks again for the responses

  • Question about Dolby Digital 5.1 in Soundtrack Pro 3

    Hi folks,
I am pretty confused in regards to using Soundtrack Pro 3 to create and export a AC-3 dolby digital 5.1 file to be used in burning a Blu Ray DVD using Toast Titanium 11. I admit that overall I am somewhat Final Cut Studio savy but for the life of me I cannot find reliable and understandable tutorials re: the dolby digital thing. I am hoping that there are people out there who will be patient with my admitted ignorance
So, what I am working on?
107 minute feature documentary film edited using FCP 7 with 65 tracks of audio mixed down (using STP3) to six (1 & 2 dedicated to Voice, 3 & 4 dedicated to sfx and ambient sounds, 5 & 6 dedicated to music.)
What do I want to do?
My film is going be to be screened at a festival next month and so I want to burn a blu ray disc (using Toast Titanium 11) with AC-3 Dolby digital 5.1 audio as apposed to 2 channel stereo.
    What I don't understand?
I'm not entirely sure how the Dolby 5.1 export using STP3 works. My questions are:
Will it take a 2 channel stereo final mix and convert and export it so that it will be a Dolby Digital? If so, what about the 6 channels of audio that I mentioned before. Is it better to mix those 6 down to 2 before doing the  Dolby 5.1 export?
If so, what if the theatre equipment (or any home dvd player) is not able to play Dolby 5.1? Will it then play the Blu Ray in 2 channel stereo or will there be issues?
Is there a 'standard' Dolby Digital setup when having to choose the 'Audio Coding Mode?'
    And/or:
What settings would you suggest for very high quality Blu Ray export?
Anyways, I know there is a helluva lot of questions there but I obviously wanna get this right. Huge thanks in advance to any advice/suggestions you can give.
    Cheers!

    HI,
    briefly from what comes to mind is;
your tracks need to be assigned via the Surround Sound Panner options, either or both in the tracks and submixes.  Read about Surround Sound in Soundtrack Pro and also the effect options via the sound design reverberation. (The latter can create surround from a stereo submix as well )
The next chapter is the export option.  FILE>EXPORT
The master can be optionally exported in Dolby surround AC-3 with a number of options you need to set in this window.
Then burning is the next chapter. I trust Toast can manage but have not tried yet.
When burning to Blue Ray one actually should use full resolution PCM files  WAV format for highest quality
Audio Surround Sound. The Export then would need to be uncompressed from your final STP mix in single mono files (which is an option in STP ) and then imported into a special burning program.....
THese are my 2 cents in general.

  • X-Fi Fatal1ty Pro cannot see 5.1 Dolby Digital input via Optical link (mods, please he

X-Fi Fatalty Pro cannot see 5. Dolby Digital input via Optical link. I am pumping my Xbox360 through the Digital I/O dongle and every thing works OK using Dolby Stereo, outputing to my 5. analog speakers. However, it does NOT work when choosing Dolby Digital 5.. My SPDIF tab just says unknown input.
Please help, this is very frustrating...

Ok, for those who also wanted to know the outcome, I though I'd post.
I was told that the dongle cannot decode 5. to analog, but the Dri've Upgrade and the Console Upgrade could (at $80/$80 vs. $5).
    Great.
So what I want to know is this:? what chipset or connection is Creative putting in the Dri've Upgrade and Console Upgrade? It seems to me that the card should be doing the decoding, not the type of optical port. If it's getting the signal, then what is the problem? Is is that the flexijack cannot output/input 5. at all, only stereo?
Anyway, the Digital I/O dongle is going back, the thing is useless for my purposes. While I can hear 360 games fine, DVD's on it default to 5. if they have that type of audio, and there is no way to switch it to stereo; it gives me only silence then.
And mods, nothing in my frustration is with you; you seem to be very helpful and responsi've. I just wish the rest of the company would get on the ball.

  • 5.1 Dolby Digital via optical cable in Mac Pro?

    Hello!
I'm planning to get a new Mac Pro and I wanted to know if a Dolby Digital or DTS encoder is included to have 5.1 output with the optical TosLink cables.
I need this to connect the Mac with my 5.1 surround sound system because I wanted to watch DVDs using it.
If it only supports stereo sound in the standard version, do you have any recommendations to expand it to get the described feature?
    Thanks for answers.

Hook up the toslink, set the output to digital in System Preferences>Sound, set the input on your 5.1 receiver and match the surround sound format in both the DVD movie sound prefs and the receiver.
    That's it.
Remember to set the speakers in the correct positions from your sitting point or it won't work very well.
To test the surround sound I suggest the movie Castaway, where Tom Hanks is picking up Fedex boxes from the surf line. You'll hear the waves crash on the left, Tom walking towards you and coconuts falling on the right.
The toslink and a good receiver also makes your rips and iTMS songs sound great too.
Check out the Volume Logic iTunes plug-in as well, really makes the music sound great.

  • Audigy Platinum gives Dolby Pro Logic, but not Dolby Digital with

I'm trying to get my Audigy Platinum (the original) to output dolby digital over the SPDIF output as a bitstream instead of PCM.
I've tried everything I've read on the forums and elsewhere (that's how I got it to the point of working this far).
Stereo playing wav files etc is ok.
Playing a DVD thru Windows media player gives surround, but in Dolby ProLogic, not DD.
Playing a DVD with PowerDVD gives no sound via digital
Playing a DVD via Video Lan Player (VLC) gives either no sound or stereo via digital.
Ultimate goal here is to play HD content (Transport Streams recorded from HD cable box) with the Dolby 5. soundtrack.
Is the Audigy going to work here or do I need to move to another solution like Turtle Beach Dolby Digital Li've?
    Thanks,
    Doug

I Kind of have to give in to that. However if the bitrate is to low, any decent receiver won't give you anything but Dolby prologic II
How can you kind of agree and then repeat the same incorrect statement you did before ?
If the audio track has 5.1, it doesn't matter how low the bitrate is, one should expect to get 5.1 from the receiver.
You are of course correct about the superior quality of audio from a blu-ray disc, it is however fairly meaningless if you can't actually tell the difference which a large percentage of the population can't.
Likewise, even if you are able to tell the difference, one may not wish to invest the sort of money it requires to be able to hear that difference.
And also similarly, one may feel that the benefit of not having to leave your home to get the blu-ray disc, not having to organise and store the disc or return it later and not having to pay through the nose for it, all outweigh any benefit a small and often undetectable improvement in quality might make.
Horses for courses, if you want your improved quality thyen consider another device, if you want ease of use, an intuitive user experience and instant gratification, then the Apple TV is ideal.

  • HD TV Show... can't get Dolby Digital 5.1 to Work

I just bought an episode of Chuck (from NBC). In the description of the show it says that it has Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound. I have my macbook-pro hooked up to my surround sound system using a mini-toslink -> optical connector. When playing the episode the Stereo track plays just fine... but if I switch to Surround.... I get no sound.
    Any ideas?

I bought LOST season 5 season pass.
I only found out about this 'non-feature' after trying for ages to get it to work and searching for a solution.
When I first complained I got told by support that it was probably a hardware issue and to call the support line. I did, got the same answer, and was then asked to part with more money for continued support, which I declined. I asked point blank whether DD5.1 really only plays back on Apple TV - which was denied.
After continuing to pursue it I finally got an email from 'tier 2' support admitting that 5.1 does only plays back on an Apple TV: here's the text:
+This is+ name removed +from iTunes Store Customer Support and your request+
+has been escalated to me today. I understand that you have been+
+unable to use Dolby surround sound on your computer for your iTunes+

+TV. Apple recognizes that no one is better qualified to provide+
+feedback about the content provided on the iTunes Store than the+
    +people who use it.+
I got back to them to say I'd like a (small!) partial refund - to cover the costs of my phone bills and disappointment. They've gone silent.
I've now reported it to Trading Standards in the UK as it is misselling. Curiously - since i complained the 'About HD' section - where it used to say +on your Apple TV or Computer+ has been changed.

JUnable to enable SPDIF? X-Fi XtremeGamer (non-PRO) w/ Digital I/O Module? I recently purchased the Digital I/O module in order to use SPDIF Out on my X-Fi XtremeGamer in order to send audio to my 5. receiver via digital coax.
However after hooking up my Digital I/O module to the flexijack (the one with the red light) I am unable to enable SPDIF.

I am running the most current drivers and console launcher that Creative has on their website.
I have been trying to get it to work both under Windows XP and Windows 7.
I have spent the last 3 hours beating my head on a wall, I hope someone can help me with this...
Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Ah that's what I am afraid of.
Quoted from the article in your message: "For SB073X series : Supports Microphone-in, Line-in and Optical out connections. On a SB073X series card, this jack does not have the Digital-in function to support the Digital I/O Module. It does however connects to external digital audio devices that accept stereo PCM or compressed Dolby Digital/DTS Bitstream from the Optical output. This will require using a "Toslink to Mini Toslink" cable for connection only."

  • Dolby Home Theater V4 changed to Dolby Digital Plus after Realtek Audio Driver update Windows 8.1

Hi,I'm now using Ideapad Z510. After upgraded to Windows 8.1. I'd went to the Lenovo website searching for new driver update.
But, after i install the "Realtek Audio Driver 6.0.1.7023", the "Dolby Home Theater V4" is not running(audio sound not playing through). And, the "Dolby Digital Plus" is running instead of "Dolby Home Theater V4".
Then, when I try to reinstall the older version "Realtek Audio Driver 6.0.1.6954" from Lenovo website, the "Dolby Home Theater V4" is running again.
Truly, the "Dolby Digital Plus"'s sound is crisper and louder than "Dolby Home Theater V4". But the sound of "Dolby Home Theater V4" has more bass and more function (like Graphic Equalizer, more Intelligent Equalizer etc.).
Is this an update or what?
What should I choose? The newer driver (for Windows 8.1) or older driver (for Dolby Home Theater V4)?  Thanks. (confused now) @@

    Hi all
Could you try out DAA or DHTLightweight from my link and just install the Dolby software without overriding your Realtek Driver? I am not sure whether would it work, but worth a try. I have tried on Y460, W520 and G560 with great experience.
If the older Dolby software does not work with your existing Realtek driver, you could install the DAA or DHTLightweight with their driver to overwrite and see how it goes.
    Thank You

  • Dolby digital through HDMI

I have a 2012 MacBook Pro with retina display. I'm trying to get Dolby digital through the hdmi port and after comparing some media attached to my receiver the same movie was Dolby digital on my WDTV and using the same cable was stereo connected to my MacBook Pro.
I'm not sure if its a setting or an atypical apple thing like they did with the digital stereo connection in headphone jack using a mini fiber optic cable (phoslink).
I suppose if I want to hear Dolby digital out of my Mac,  I wondering if I need a thunderbolt to hdmi to get what I want. Dolby digital through HDMI is an industry standard!

After talking to three levels of support, I finally was told the new Macbook Pros (with Retina display) are NOT capable of producing Dolby digital through the HDMI port.  They only do digital stereo.
In order to produce up to 8 channels of Dolby digital surround sound you must use an additional toslink cable, which is a mini fiber optic, found cheap at Monoprice!
Just for the record, the expensive Thundebolt to HDMI or mini Display port to HDMI only do stereo too.  Not a big deal for most, but upsetting if you're expecting a HDMI to function as it does in any other piece of equiptment!!

  • Does the digital optical input recognise Dolby Digital?

    Hey guys,
I was wondering if you could help clarify something for me. I have an Astro Gaming A30 Audio System that I use when playing my PS3. It's a gaming headset with pinpoint-accurate 7.1 Dolby and Dolby Headphone surround sound. Here's a link to the web page if you want to know more about it - http://www.astrogaming.com/products/detail/80/A30-Audio-System/.
Now, at the moment I have the PS3 connected directly to the A30 Audio System with a digital optical cable. In the PS3 settings, I have it set to output Dolby Digital 5.1 as this is the format that the A30 Audio System uses. This setting is important because it's what gives me the surround sound in my headphones. Ok, we're almost at my question...
Recently, I've been thinking of buying a capture card so I can record my game plays and upload them to YouTube. The capture card that I'm thinking of getting is the Blackmagic Design Intensity Pro. Here's a link to the web page - http://www.blackmagic-design.com/products/intensity/.
My question is - since there is no output on the A30 Audio System, and therefore no way to route the sound into my Mac from it, I need to first send the sound from the PS3 into the Mac (for recording) and then re-send the sound from the Mac into the Astro A30s (for listening). If I do this, will I lose the Dolby Digital format that was originally output from the PS3? I don't mind recording the audio in stereo, but it's essential that the Dolby Digital sound goes to the Astro A30s. Otherwise I won't have proper surround sound. And if you went to the website, you would have noticed that they're pretty expensive. So playing in surround sound is very important to me, as I paid top dollar for them.
Anyway, if you can clarify that for me it would be much appreciated. Thanks for your time.
    Regards,
    Daniel

Sure there's a difference it depends completely on the original sample rate of the audio recorded otherwise the best built in audio can do is 48/24, so trying to go out at 96 will force resampling[without a capable app running]. But in terms of resampling, if you use the card then you should be able to use 96/32.
Have you properly adjusted AMS settings; so that the card is in Properties at 96? Still the only governing factor there is whatever software governs the PCI card. I don't get the problem you're having here, what is the connection to the machine, optical?
