Audio ads spontaneously playing on MBP?

Last night, I was had Safari and Chrome open and an ad audio for Musselman applesauce started playing. I closed out tabs in Safari and it stopped. (It then happened 2-3 more times.)
Today, the same thing happened with both browsers open but I closed Chrome tabs and it stopped.
This is the first time anything like this has happened--the only change that has happened to my computer was that I installed Adobe Creative Cloud and that WAS open every time it's happend.
(I've since closed it out and haven't had another occurence.)
What should I do? Is this a sign of malware? Thanks!

This is not malware. At most - and I think this is unlikely - you may have installed a bit of adware. However, I haven't heard of any adware known to behave this way.
It is, unfortunately, not uncommon for web pages to spontaneously play audio automatically. Often this is due to a video auto-playing on the page. Keep track of what pages are open. If you have multiple pages open, scan over all of them for a video. If there are no obvious culprits, close pages one at a time and see when the audio stops.
Once you have pinpointed the offending page, boycott it, or at a minimum send a complaint to the site owner.
One thing that can help would be a Flash blocker. Such things are often Flash-based, so blocking Flash content from automatically loading will prevent this kind of thing in most cases. ClickToFlash or ClickToPlugin will do that for Safari, Chrome has its own "click to play" plugin preferences that will do the same thing.
Note that, even if this was malware of some kind, MacScan (which one person mentioned using) would not find it. It's so worthless it might as well be a scam. See:
MacScan disappoints
If anyone here thinks they may actually have adware installed, see my Adware Removal Guide.

  • Audio Ads Play With No Browser Open

I have audio ads playing randomly on my computer all the time, like when all my browser windows are closed and Safari is shut down. It's not a pop-up, it's not an ad on a web page (as all windows/browsing apps can be shut down and it still happens). I get McDonalds ads, and West Virginia tourism ads, and random movie ads. What I'm trying to say is that it's completely bleeping random. They especially seem to enjoy playing at top volume while I am watching a DVD on my computer (nice to hear how awesome West Virginia is while watching Battlestar Galactica) or, even better, shouting out of my computer right as I have gotten my children to sleep at night.
I've googled it many times, and I've found a bunch of suggestions that it may be a Rootkit/bootkit kind of malware(? so says a forum commenter in response to someone's situation that sounded almost exactly like mine), but as of yet, no confirmation that this is actually the problem, and no idea of how to fix this sort of issue on a Mac (all online references to such a problem seem to be happening to people who use Windows operating systems).
It's been going on for months now, and I've hit my limit of trying to solve it on my own... Any insights?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Note: If FileVault is enabled under Mac OS X 10.7 or later, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Skype is playing audio ads.

Skype is interrupting me with loud and annoying audio ads. Well, sorta. It's running Anyclip ads...which THEMSELVES run audio ads, say, for a John Deere tractor. This is UNACCEPTABLE, and I believe it's against your own terms of use. I'm watching a video and suddenly an ad is playing from nowhere...

WINDOWS ONLY The Skype Team forced us all to update to the latest version of Skype for one reason and one reason only: Money
They want us to see their new advertisements so they make more profit; they don't care how bad they are at programming and how bad they are at developing Skype. Luckily, there is a solution to get rid of these advertisements and make Skype better (although it still has too many problems than the older versions). 1. Open-up the control panel.2. Open-up "Network & Internet" then "Internet Options".3. Go to the "Security" tab.4. Click on the "Restricted Sites" icon, then the "Sites" button below it.5. Type "https://apps.skype.com/" (without the quotes) into the text box and click "Add"6. Close and apply the changes.7. Restart Skype.I followed these instructions just now and it worked. ^_^ good luck

  • Skype Ads Randomly Playing Sounds During Calls

I've been having random sounds play while in meetings and realized it was due to Skype ads on the homescreen.  The sounds are can be music or some random ad-voice.  I've managed to make it stop temporarily by clicking "Home" button.  However, this nusance persistantly occurs.  This is extremely annoying and embarassing as a majority of my Skype calls are business related.  I've read several existing threads (most archived) and nothing has provided any real help in resolving this.  I'd like to know if  Other Skype Users are encountering this irritating issue, and/orHow do i prevent sounds eminanting from Skype ads randomly playing at will??  This is pretty awful UX Skype folks.  ::

Hi and welcome to the Skype Community,
Sorry to hear about the Skype ad playing audio by itself. Can you share a screenshot of the ad which would help us identifying the actualy ad? Do you see the ad on top of the conversation window or in the Skype Home screen that is shown when you don't have a conversation opened?
Finally can you let us know which country you are located in? I dont know what ad it was - it has two guys in the image.  I never pay attention to skype ads.   The ad sounds play from both the homescreen and the in call screens.  For me it's happening more often from ads on the homescreen. When I'm not on a call the sound randomly plays.  When i realize its from the homescreen, i click the homescreen button and the ad sound stops and refreshes so I really have no idea what ad this is.    SUGGESTION: What makes more sense to me is providing users with an option to permanenly turn off ad sounds for ALL ads.  Me personally:  I don't want to keep coming here to these forums to complain about different ads making different sounds - further deeping this awful UX experience.  One universal - turn ad sounds off solution seems the most logical. It be easier for folks there to dev and include that option rather troubleshooting these types of issues on a per-ad basis. I'm located in the US.

  • How can I have html5 audio continue to play in background in iOS7 from my flex mobile app

I have mobile app I've developed in flash builder 4.6 (flex 4.12 sdk) and I have a stagewebview component which contains HTML5 audio (mp3 retrieved from my web server and streamed / played via the app)... I want to have the ios version of the app CONTINUE to play the mp3 / html5 audio when the user presses the home button on their iphone or opens another app... so that when multitasking, my audio continues to play (where theres no other NEW audio started, for instance).
I have added the following to my manifest but it still doesnt do what Im after. I used this in another mobile app where I just play audio from the url directly in flash builder (i.e. NOT via webview component) -- but here it seems the webview suspends (Im guessing)...

Is there a way around this so my audio continues to play? My test device is an iphone 4 running the latest version of ios7

You can import audio files into Logic (as easy as drag and drop).  You can download these loops from the Internet from a variety of sources both free and paid.  Just do a Google search for those.
Once you've imported the file into Logic Pro, right click on the audio region and scroll down to the "Convert" option about halfway down the menu.  The top option will be "Add to Apple Loops library" - click this, and it'll add the file into your Apple loops.
It won't affect the other loops in the library.

  • Audio and video played inside of apps will no longer work.

I use several apps to listen to audio and within the last few days I tried listening to NPR but when I hit "play" it would just buffer and never play. I then attempted to download some podcasts via iTunes as an alternative and kept  getting an error "unable to Download Podcast." I was not on the latest version (5.1.1)of iOS (was on version 5.1) and several apps needed updated so I updated everything.  Since then my videos within CNN, NBC, etc stopped working and the audio/podcast download issue remained.  Oddly, I can watch videos via the YouTube app or via blogs on a browser but videos or audio within apps(CNN, NPR, NBC, etc) do not play.  Sometimes I just get a blank screen and sometimes the audio will actually play but no video depending on the app I'm using.
I have no problem surfing the internet or playing videos via YouTube app so it isn't a connection issue. Here are the steps I've taken thus far to resolve the issue but with no luck:
First issue: Audio not working - just buffer. Also, couldn't download podcasts
    1. Restart
    2. Reset (On/Off + home)
    3. Update to latest version iOS (now on 5.1.1)
    4. Update all apps
New issue: Video now doesn't work within apps.  Audio and podcast download still not working.
    5. Reset (On/Off +Home - again)
    6. Reset All Settings
    7. Restore from Backup
    8. Reset (On/Off +Home - getting desperate)
    9. Deleted CNN app from iPad and iTunes, ran sync and reinstalled.  Still no luck but now actually get a message when trying to play video "Unable to play video" (very helpful)
I'm at a loss. any ideas would be much appreciated.
    Thank you!

Did you already update to the latest iOS; http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4623

  • How to get the length of a audio file without play it ?

Now I know a method to get the length of a audio file by play it:
1 Create a Player, and add a ControllerListener
    2.Start the Player
3.In the ControllerListener's controllerUpdate method, use getMediaTime() by receiving a EndOfMediaEvent
However I think this method is not convenience, if I don't want to play it how I can get the length of the audio file?
Is anyone can help me?Really thanks a lot !

    I got the answer here:

I tried getDuration() before, but it always return a same time, I think maybe I didn't realize the player.

  • How do I get a 3ga audio file to play on iphone 4s?

How do I get a 3ga audio file to play on iphone
    4s?

You don't need to download an App.
My understanding is that you simply have to change the file extension from .3ga to.mp3 (on each file) and then they should play.
That said, it works on a Macbook Pro - I've just tried it.
    Not sure about iOS though.
Please reply if it works for you.

  • Exported MPEG2 Audio Won't Play in Quicktime - is there a workaround?

Just completed my first video edit in Premiere Elements.   Working with 720p HD footage from a Sony Cybershot.    Tried various preset outputs, HD 720p 25, among others.   In all cases, picture looked good but audio did not play back.   Just discovered after some searching that Quicktime will not playback MPEG2 audio without a $20 add on.  That's not going to break my bank, but do I really need it?   Is there a workaround for this?   Can I export in Dolby Digital?   My goal is simply to have a finished project that is the most universally playable as possible.  Will eventually archive on tape and DVD.   Obviously, want to maintain the best sound as possible.

Instead of using Apple's QuickTime Player, I would suggest looking into another player, such as VLC Player, or MediaPlayer Classic HC, both of which are free, and both of which have a very full set of CODEC's included in them.
For the best possible Audio, it would be best to choose PCM/WAV as the Audio CODEC. This is almost totally universal, and unlike all MPEG Audio (including AC3), is uncompressed. The file will be a bit larger (Audio does not take up as much space, as does the Video), but should give better quality, and not require additional CODEC's for users to play the file w/ Audio. This might not be an option in all possible Export/Share schemes.
For either PCM/WAV, or AC3 Audio, this will be set from the Audio Tab in the Export/Share settings. Remember setting the Encoding for the Audio might not be available in all formats, so just check that Audio Tab in the settings dialog screen (usually under Advanced).
As for DD Audio, you can set the Audio Encoding to AC3, wich is Dolby Digital, but that option might not be available with all possible Export/Share formats, so it gets down to an "it depends." This will be stereo (2-channel) Audio.
PrE cannot Encode to DD 5.1 SS (6-channel), as it lacks that Encoder. Even PrPro needs the Minnetonka Audio SurCode Encoder plug-in (US$300 option) to do DD 5.1 SS Export.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • How to install Sony audio player to play video on Sony tv over thunderbolt connection?

When I play movies via thunderbolt connection to my Sony tv the audio won't play over the tv speakers.

    Hi,
I've posted many times about this: we can buy a $70 BD player with HDMI, it works first time, all the times but most of the times HDMI won't work on a $1,000 machine called computer. MS, video card vendors and computer vendors need to sit down and discuss this seriously.
In this case, updating video card driver may help and somtimes keep trying and trying.
    Regards.

Luckily, there are DOZENS of video/media players and extensions avaliable for the Mac. Many of them are FREE, some of the better FREE ones are...
    PERIAN (quicktime extension)
    http://perian.org/
    QUICKTIME 7.6.6
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL923
    VLC media player
    http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
    NICEPLAYER

And if none of those work, there is a possibility that those video files may be corrupted.

  • Background audio ads even with no tabs open

This is driving me nuts. I have searched for answers, but none help.
I get random audio ads even when there is only a new tab open in Firefox 15. Started with "Congratulations, you won", but today for example, I get an ad for Disney World. Its incredibly annoying.
Happens at random. I could have several in 5 minutes or none for a day of browsing.
I auto clean my cache after each session. No proxies. Does not seem related to any plugin. Have created a new profile.
There MUST be a way t stop this. Anyone have good ides?
    Thanks.
    ~Bob

Try to delete the sessionstore.js file and possible sessionstore-##.js files with a number and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox
Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note or bookmark them).
You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder:
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
    See "Creating a profile":
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox#Profile_issues
There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.
If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.
    See:
