Audio and video out of sync after exporting sequence

I'm a FCP user since years, but not so common with HD footage. Therefore I have an issue with my finished edited movie after exporting: Video and Audio are out of sync.
My sequence settings are: HDV1080i50, 25fps, 48kHz, 16bit, Stereo. I used File-> Export-> Quicktime Movie -> Current Settings
Sequence has a duration of 61 minutes and 38 sec. I tried to find out where's the problem and exported audio and video seperated. This results in:
Video is 61 minutes and 27 sec long
Audio is 61 minutes and 38 sec long
That means exported video is shorter than original sequence.
What could that be ?

I had the same problem with a Panasonic camera, even filming at 30 fps. I was able to fix it; see [this thread|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1783029&tstart=0]. It's a frustating problem, to be sure. You might have to use Easy Setup a couple times before you get things to work properly. Not sure why that's the case.
Good luck!

  • Audio and Video out of Sync after Pro Res export

I´m getting an audio/video sync issue when I´m exporting to Pro Res.
I started off in a HDV1080i50 sequence. Audio sampling rate is 48khz. (16 bit depth)
The sequence is less than 20 minutes long. It plays correctly on the timeline.
When I export the sequence for DVD and view it on a set top it plays absolutely fine.
When I export the video to ProRes (422 HQ - I used Export using Quicktime Conversion) and the audio to AIFF, they quickly go out of sync. This was brought to my attention first by the guys who were making the DigiBeta master, and when I view the exported material in a Pro Res sequence I can see it for myself.
The audio and video clips are of the exact same duration.
    Possible issues...
Some of the narration was recorded at 44.1 khz. I didn´t resample it (I´m still a learning novice..).. but if that is the issue should it not have affected the DVD as well? All the other audio in the project is 48khz.
Most of the material is HDV1080i50..but one clip used was originally an NTSC clip and therefore a different frame rate. However I converted it to a 25fps clip and this is reflected in the vid rate column in the browser where it says 25fps.
Final point, the exported AIFF files..when I import them back into the HDV1080i50 sequence and play back, it is perfectly in sync.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

First, yes resample the narration to 48k 16 bit.  You will probably be able to reconnect to the resampled files.  Usually works for me.   That's a simple fix and will probably solve the problem.  If it doesn't, you can try to change the codec (compressor) in the sequence settings to prores 422HQ, fully render and see if that solves the problem.
Wait, just reread your original post.  Export from fcp using file:  export:  quicktime movie NOT quicktime conversion with current settings.  If that works without synch issues, use compressor to convert to prores.

  • FCP 7.0.2 - audio and video out of sync after QT export! HELP!

I loaded a self-contained movie of my project and exported it through Compressor. However, half way through the video, the audio and video went out of sync.
This has never happened before — only since I upgraded to 10.6.3 and FCP 7.0.2/Compressor 3.5.2
    HELP!

(P.S. I did change the Settings of the FCP from 720p60 to 720p30 about half way through the project, but that shouldn't affect the export.)
About the time you changed FCP Easy Setup from 720p60 to 720p30 DURING Export?
As you stated on this post:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2384569&tstart=0
I wouldn't think that's the best time to make a major change.

  • Audio and video out of sync after capture from Canon

Help for a newbie please?  I have a Canon XHA1S and have a problem after capturing HD video.  After capturing a 40 minute clip, the  audio and video are out of sync.  Seems like there is about a 3 second difference.  The entire clip is like that in the source window; I made a couple of quick edits and have the same problem in the program window.  Tried exiting and re-opening PP, but that didn't help.  I'm running PP in CS6 on an iMac 3.4 GHz i7 with 8G of ram.  Thanks!

I have NOT used it, but many say to try this for HDV capture http://strony.aster.pl/paviko/hdvsplit.htm

  • Audio and video out of sync after import

I'm trying to bring some H.264 video into a Premiere project. But when I place it in a sequence (a sequence that is created based upon this very clip), the audio and video are about a second out of sync. (It's also odd: no amount of adjustment will bring them in sync. Seemingly the video is running at some variable rate that makes synchronization impossible...?)
As a test, I tried bringing my video into iMovie, and it works just fine there. But I don't want to use iMovie: I want to use Premiere.
    Any ideas?

    Thanks. Here's the output:

  • Audio and video out of sync after converting to mp4

I've tried 3 converters (ImToo, Xilisoft, and Videora) and for 2 videos I really want on my ipod, the audio and video are offset. Infact, on Xilisoft, one wouldn't even convert (to anything ------as both are WMV and I thought that might be a problem--but I found I had another WMV that had the audio matching the video fine). For the other vid., I tried on Xilisoft making it an AVI first, but that AVI also had messed up audio/video
This is a really broad question, but what can I do and what programs can I try to get the videos to convert properly??
(I've tried uploading the wmvs to itunes to have itunes "convery for ipod", but they wouldn't even upload to itunes)

I have also had similar problems. Unfortunatly i have yet to discover a program that works perfectly. Just keep searching is really all i have to say. However if you do find it, could u please post it

  • Audio and video out of sync after making subclip

I split into subclips about one hour of video. when I play the subclips back in the viewer the audio is at the beginning and the video is at the very end with alot of black space in between. when i watch the original one hour clip in the viewer it's perfect.

I captured a whole tape via "capture now" then went back and viewed it using markers to select scenes for my subclips. The played back tape is fine but after making subclips out of my markers the audio is at the very beginning of the clip and has a timecode of 00:00:00;00 (black screen in viewer), then a few minutes of black screen with nothing, then my video with the proper timecode as shown in browser and elsewhere. Each clip has a audio timecode of 00:00:00;00 and the video has the correct timecode. I can unlink them in the timeline and sync them but this is way too much work plus it doesn't really sync them anywhere but in the timeline and canvas. In the viewer I get the little editing ques and boxes that show where video and audio are, you know the little frame in/frame out "L"'s and they read exactly what I'm getting.ie. audio at 00:00:00;00 and video elsewhere.

  • Audio and video out of sync after transfer to new computer

My son had 9 minutes of a stop motion video, including audio tracks nearly finished but we needed to move the project from his laptop to our imac desktop. Now when project plays the audio is distorted. When you preview the tracks in the edit window, they sound fine, but when you play the whole project all audio clips stutter. Any ideas how to fix this problem would be greatly appreciated!

Depending on the speed of your computer, the project's audio may lag during real time playback. Have you tried exporting it to a DVD? Even if it didn't work well in iMovie it might still burn fine...

  • Audio and video out of sync on short recordings

I've scanned the discussions and see that alot of posters are experiencing
the same problem I'm having which is recording quicktime movies
and getting audio and video out of sync.
In most of those posts the responses seem to be that the problem gets
bad if you're making a long recording. I'm experiencing that, but...
...I'm also having the same problem on really short recordings...less than a
minute. I've coming video and audio out of my cable box, into a SONY DSR-11 VCR, then firewire out of the deck into the computer, recording the movies with Quicktime 7.1.6.
I know it's coming out of the cable box and then out of the SONY deck via firewire in sync because when I log and capture through Final Cut Pro, audio and video are in sync in preview and playback. I don't want to use Final Cut Pro to capture the movies because I want to end up with MPEG4, and I'd have to go through an extra conversion process out of FCP.
Any thoughts on why even short recordings through Quicktime are out of sync?
    Thanks.

I'm having similar problems transferring VHS video to Quicktime. Another problem I'm having is when I transfer a VHS video to iMovie and then export the video to H.264 format, I have similar sync problems, even though the iMovie seems perfectly in sync.
I'm going to try to transfer several alternative video formats (video from my cable DVR, Video from live TV, and video from a digital mini cassette to try and figure out whether the VHS format is the culprit. Will keep you posted.

  • Audio And Video out of sync in Final Cut, but not in quicktime

I heave searched the forums to no end to find the solution to this issue, unfortunatley, I have not solved the problem.
I am using Final Cut 4.5 on a G4 running OSX 10.3.4. This system has worked perfectly for years with no problems. Neither the system, hardware, or software has ever been changed on this machine. Suddenly last week, despite perfect sync while previewing the capture, the Audio and Video were of sync in Final Cut, but when checked in quicktime, there were no problems. That is how I eventually figured out this was a final cut problem.
By out of sync, I don't mean it is by a specific number of frames that can be adjusted and then everything is fine, the sync seems to drift so that if you edit the audio to be in sync in one part of the video, it won't be at the end. Also, it is out of sync from the first frame played, not a gradual drift.
This is definitely not an issue of frame rates or final cut settings as will be evident by the steps I took below to find the source of this problem.
This is what I did to attempt to fix the problem:
    - Check drives using disc utility and repair permissions
    - Remove Final Cut Preferences using Apple guidelines
    - Switch hard drives
    - Delete Final Cut and reinstall newer version of final cut (since the capture files played fine on Final Cut 5.1 on another machine)
    - reinstall entire OSX 10.3.9, wiping the hard drive and reinstalling Final Cut 5.1
    - switch ram slots, and even replace ram with different sticks from another G4 machine
None of these solutions worked. Is there some hardware problem with my G4 that is suddenly causing Final Cut to play audio and video out of sync?
Hope you can help, otherwise this otherwise great G4 is going in the dumpster!
    Thanks

For what it's worth, I'm having what looks to be the same problem. Driving me insane. Here's what's going on-
    Editing in FCP 6.0.2
QT was just updated to 7.3.1 the other day (hmm)
On an MacBookPro machine, OS 10.5.1
Software updater says everything's up to date of course.
    DV-NTSC 24p (23.98) Advanced Pulldown Removal (footage was shot at 24PA on a DVX100b)
In Quicktime, the file previews fine, everything's in sync, everyone's happy. In FCP, the video and audio are wildly out of sync. I did a test inside of quicktime and sliced out a small portion of the media clip and did a "save as" and this small slice played in sync in FCP. However, this did not work for the entire clip. Clip is weighing in at 5.58GB for a 32 minute run.
I'm trying to multicam 2 tapes together and manually syncing these up is proving to be difficult at best. When anyone gets any ideas/leads/patches, let us know.

  • Compressor audio and video out of sync

I've edited DV video in FCPX (where audio and video are in sync), sent to Compressor, and added the Dolby and MPEG-2 settings to my submitted job. But when I add the output files to Toast, the audio and video are not in sync. Reviewing the video in Compressor, it appears they are out of sync there as well (though it's hard to tell due to the choppiness of the playback there).
Any idea why this is occurring?

Try filling each gap in the audio timeline AND / OR set your encoding to CBR (Constant Bit Rate), not VBR. In some cases the DECODING part tries to fill gaps by "pulling" the next part of the audio if the stream has been encoded with VBR. Good luck.

  • Audio and Video Out of Sync  -AV sync problem

Edited a bunch of clips together from Canon T1i 720p, iPhone 3GS, Canon SX110, and Sony DSC-W70. About an hour long. Everything looks great when played within iMovie '11, but when exported, the audio and video get out of sync. It gets progressively worse the farther along you are in the sequence. AV is as much as 6 seconds off by the end!! Audio is ahead of the video. I've tried exporting in several different ways including: Export to iDVD, Export to Media Browser 720p, with the same results.
Anyone else having this problem? I know I've done this with success in the past with iMovie '09.

Im having the same issue I have a project that is 9 minutes long tried all before even looking at the forum but It will not sync. Some one even told me to repair the permissions so nothing worked. I went to the Mac store no body knew what I was talking about so they asked me to call Apple so I did and was hung up on 3 times not only that but I was advised since I just bought the product I did have 3 months of tech support.
I mean I'm having an issue and they tell me I have 90 days of free service? This has got to be a joke. I than asked well can I just take it back and instal my 09 back? I was advised nope you wont be able to do so and you cant get your money back.
After this whole mishap I did learned that the less snips and clips and editing is on the project the sync and video will be ok but if you have lots clips such as most of us than we will continue on having this issue.
    We need a fix ASAP

  • Audio and video out of sync on converted AVI file

I am trying to convert a DVD to an AVI for playback on a device. When I import the DVD and publish it as an .AVI the output audio and video are out of sync. After about an hour of playback the audio lags the video by a full second. How can I correct this problem?

If you have Premiere Elements 12 on Windows 8 and you want to rip VOBs from the DVD-VIDEO to export subsequently to DV AVI, here are the details....
    1. Do you have DVD-VIDEO standard or widescreen? Set the Premiere Elements 12 project preset manually.
File Menu/New/Project. Set the project preset to NTSC or PAL DV Standard or NTSC or PAL DV Widescreen depending on what you have.
Before you exit the new project dialog, make sure that you have a check mark next to Force Selected Project Setting on this Project.
    2. In the Premiere Elements workspace, use Add Media/DVD camera or computer drive/Video Importer to get the VOBs (only the ones in the series VTS_01_1.VOB. Set to a folder in the Save In: location. Check mark next to Insert in Timeline. Hit Get Media.
    3. If you have an orange line OVER the Timeline content, press the Enter key to get the best possible preview of what you have on that Timeline.
If after all that, the audio is out of sync, then use the Command Prompt method to get the individual VOBs into a single file with all the VOBs seamlessly merged. This worked nicely for a recent user here. See details in my blog post how to for the Command Prompt way.

Please do not hesitate to ask if you need clarification on anything that I have written.
Depending on your results, more information may be requested about the specific properties of what you have on that DVD disc.
    Thank you.

  • Audio and video do not sync when exporting

the audio and video content do not sync when exporting to media browser or quicktime.. at times the audio is delayed, or ahead of the video

    Wow, I was just about to post something similar. I've tried 4 different times, wasted a few dvds, and tried various ways of outputting to solve this...nothing. Here's my situation;
    • I have a series of stills, with music underneath...kind of like a slide show.
    • That ends, both music and visual, and I go to a black screen/slug that is :22, to give some breathing room before the video that follows. Also, the audio track fades out at the end of the stills...it does not continue into the slug.
    • After the :22 of black, I fade into a video. HOWEVER, everytime I've done that, the AUDIO portion of that video is starting while there's still black on screen, then when the video comes in, it's way behind.
I've adjust the audio to now end before the slug, thinking that was somehow making iMovie go wonky. Didn't work. I've wasted a few dvds before I got smart and started checking before burning. And still, everytime, that section is not syncing, but, i syncs in iMovie, where I made the video.
    This is HUGELY frustrating.
