Audio and video to different drives?

Hi
I have HD footage from Final Cut Pro on a RAID and want to mix the audio in Soundtrack Pro.
Is there any advantage in storing the audio on a seperate drive? This was not recommended for DV
(though I'm not sur why).

I used to live in France and used LaCie firewire disks a lot. Now I use ICE & ALUICE which have the Oxford bridge.
Your 2 X 500GoFirewire in RAID 0 will only give you a theoretical 1.6 Gb/second,
so I think your occasional problem comes from that. Even with only one video track, if you have lots of audio, try keeping it well de-fraged.

I thought that capturing audio and video to separate disks was more efficient, now I see in the FCS 2 documentation it says that this is not recommended for any of the DV formats. But it does not say why, or what the consequences of doing this are...

Absolutely. Listen to your drives while doing an intense render. The Capture drive is grabbing all of the video clips in the stack, the system drive is grabbing software. If you render to the Capture drive, that same drive has to write, too. Reduce the load by using a Render drive.
I have four drives: System, Capture, Render, Output. The last is used for all exports, encodes, and transcodes.

Airplay both audio and video through different devices

When is it gonna be possible to airplay audio on my Bose Airplay Speaker and the video on my TV? Is it about the update of the iOS?

This is a user forum so no one can answer that. I wouldn't count on it though.

I have old IPad and down load new software. It completely distort my ITune set up. I use to have audio and video in the ITune, now it's separated audio and video in different category. And I can not set group or alphabetical tap to pull out video.

If set them up in the group sush as; comedy,action,drama,ect. It would be nice.

I've never seen this issue, and I handle many iPads, of all versions. WiFi issues are generally local to the WiFi router - they are not all of the same quality, range, immunity to interference, etc. You have distance, building construction, and the biggie - interference.
At home, I use Apple routers, and have no issues with any of my WiFi enabled devices, computers, mobile devices, etc - even the lowly PeeCees. I have locations where I have Juniper Networks, as well as Aruba, and a few Netgears - all of them work as they should.
The cheaper routers, Linksys, D-Link, Seimens home units, and many other no name devices have caused issues of various kinds, and even connectivity.
I have no idea what Starbucks uses, but I always have a good connection, and I go there nearly every morning and get some work done, as well as play.
You could try changing channels, 2.4 to 5 Gigs, changing locations of the router. I have had to do all of these at one time or another over the many years that I have been a Network Engineer.

Unzip to a folder...use Device Manager.
From Device Manager,right click "Audio Device on High Def Bus",choose Update driver,
No to connect,
Install from a list or specific location,
Select Don't Search, I will choose the driver to install,
For the Hardware Type select 'Show All Devices'
Remove the check from "Show Compatible Hardware" and click on "Have Disk".
Next...browse to the unzipped folder and choose the "WiSVHe5.inf".
Ignore XP when it complains.
Reboot.

Encore audio and video different lengths

Hi everybody. I am using the Adobe Production Premium CS 3.2 and I am currently using Encore to make a Blu-ray. My show consists of eight MPEG files which I make into timelines in Encore (they become eight chapters in the menu -- each one is about 5 to 10 minutes long). I made a DVD -- no problem at all. I made an older version of the program on Blu-ray using the following settings (in Media Encoder) and was 100% successful.
MPEG-2 (1280x720)
720p 59.94 fps
VBR 2 pass
(25, 30, 35)
Quality 4.5
Audio 48 Khz, 16bit PCM
I made some changes in my original footage and decided to re-create everything anew. I changed the Quality setting in Encoder from 4.5 to 5. Now my MPEG-2 for Blu-ray files I import as assets into Encore. I create timelines for each of my files/chapters. Now, on every single timeline without exception, the video is one or two frames longer thatn the audio. I cannot build a Blu-ray. I try to go into the timeline, zoomed in to see the individual frames, and manually attempt to adjust the audio and video, but cannot get them to match up.
Any clues as to what might be going on? I've read similar threads but nothing with a definite solution. And I am wondering if Encore or Encoder just "doesn't like" me changing the quality to 5.0. Remember, when I did it before I didn't seem to have a problem. Any help would be appreciated.

Encore seems unhappy with many assets imported into timelines if they are not a whole number of seconds long. It seems to adjust their length to the nearest half frame. I have only ever found this to happen with blu-ray mpeg2 files encoded in AME.
Another possibility is that the video timescale is min:second: frame, whereas the audio may be in samples or min:seconds. This too can lead to marginal differences in length.
I have never found this to prevent me building a disk, but whichever of audio or video is longer gets cropped to match the shorter thus ruining fades to black/silence.
I should add that I have no experience of Encore 3, only Encore 2, 4 and 5.
These days I make sure that the length of my Premiere timeline is a whole number of seconds before encoding.

Does 2 firewire audio and video interface can work together on FCP ?

My audio interface is a TC Electronic Konnekt 24D
my video interface is a Canopus ADVC 110
my hard drives are plugged in firewire too
and I use Final Cut Pro 5.0.4
So, the konnekt is recognized by FCP only when the Canopus is not plugged. And even then, the audio sometimes drop out and sometimes causes the app to crash, so that I have to trash the preferences
When I plug the Canopus, the Konnekt 24D is recognised by OS X but not FCP
I want to use the voice over tool with the konnekt 24D, so what should I do ?
Does 2 firewire audio and video interface can work together ?
If so, maybe I only have a driver problem from TC Electronic.
But if not, I have to change this interface. Let me know if only RME, MOTU, Presonus and Edirol work, as it is said on apple's webpage for hardware compatibility

Ok. So an audio interface can be plugged to FCP without crashing the app. Because of the Konnekt driver problem, I wasn't shure of this.
I use my Aja box for export & external monitoring.
All my audio sources run back into the Tascam and I
use the analog mixer in the 1082 to monitor different
sources.
When I view external video, the audio follows it to
keep sync.
that's exactly what I want with other I/O interfaces. I'd like to monitor video with the canopus ADVC 110, and monitor audio with the Konnekt 24D (or another interface if this one is not compatible)
I also imput dailies with a deck or a camera (DV or HDV) but that's not the point here.
I want to imput audio with the Konnekt 24D because of its audio quality. Not audio sync to video dailies. But voice over, in sync with FCP video playback (for me, tha ADVC 110)

Audio And Video out of sync in Final Cut, but not in quicktime

I heave searched the forums to no end to find the solution to this issue, unfortunatley, I have not solved the problem.
I am using Final Cut 4.5 on a G4 running OSX 10.3.4. This system has worked perfectly for years with no problems. Neither the system, hardware, or software has ever been changed on this machine. Suddenly last week, despite perfect sync while previewing the capture, the Audio and Video were of sync in Final Cut, but when checked in quicktime, there were no problems. That is how I eventually figured out this was a final cut problem.
By out of sync, I don't mean it is by a specific number of frames that can be adjusted and then everything is fine, the sync seems to drift so that if you edit the audio to be in sync in one part of the video, it won't be at the end. Also, it is out of sync from the first frame played, not a gradual drift.
This is definitely not an issue of frame rates or final cut settings as will be evident by the steps I took below to find the source of this problem.
This is what I did to attempt to fix the problem:
- Check drives using disc utility and repair permissions
- Remove Final Cut Preferences using Apple guidelines
- Switch hard drives
- Delete Final Cut and reinstall newer version of final cut (since the capture files played fine on Final Cut 5.1 on another machine)
- reinstall entire OSX 10.3.9, wiping the hard drive and reinstalling Final Cut 5.1
- switch ram slots, and even replace ram with different sticks from another G4 machine
None of these solutions worked. Is there some hardware problem with my G4 that is suddenly causing Final Cut to play audio and video out of sync?
Hope you can help, otherwise this otherwise great G4 is going in the dumpster!

For what it's worth, I'm having what looks to be the same problem. Driving me insane. Here's what's going on-
Editing in FCP 6.0.2
QT was just updated to 7.3.1 the other day (hmm)
On an MacBookPro machine, OS 10.5.1
Software updater says everything's up to date of course.
DV-NTSC 24p (23.98) Advanced Pulldown Removal (footage was shot at 24PA on a DVX100b)
In Quicktime, the file previews fine, everything's in sync, everyone's happy. In FCP, the video and audio are wildly out of sync. I did a test inside of quicktime and sliced out a small portion of the media clip and did a "save as" and this small slice played in sync in FCP. However, this did not work for the entire clip. Clip is weighing in at 5.58GB for a 32 minute run.
I'm trying to multicam 2 tapes together and manually syncing these up is proving to be difficult at best. When anyone gets any ideas/leads/patches, let us know.

I am getting inconsistent problems with audio and video. Here are the problems when calling three different contacts.
1. Audio to Audio worked fine with my first contact, but trying to add video crashed the audio. This happened when I tried to add video, and also when the other person tried to add video. These same problems persisted regardless of who called whom. In the end, we had a good audio to audio conversation and were also able to send messages and share files without problems.
2. My audio and video were received by the second contact, but I could not receive audio or video from them. These same problems persisted regardless of who called whom. In the end, I used audio and video while the other person typed messages in response.
3. My audio and video were received by the third contact, and I could receive their video, but they could not hear my audio. These same problems persisted regardless of who called whom. We didn't bother trying to continue our conversation.
So, I checked all my settings to ensure audio and video were properly set up. Also, I made a successful skype test call. It is very puzzling to me since the results were inconsistent with each of these contacts. If the same problem existed at my end, then I could expect a hardware or driver issue on my computer, but sometimes the other person had the problem, I think. Can anyone help? Cheers

DVCPRO HD timecode - audio and video out of sync

I'm hoping this will turn out to be a "d'oh!" moment, but...
I'm working on a project which is being shot on the HVX200, with audio captured separately. The video is transferred to me via a FireStore, and I import both the video and separate audio (which is recorded to four .wav files) using the 'Import' command. Both video and audio are captured using free run timecode.
When imported, the video and audio have wildly different timecodes. For example, the video clip whose timecode starts 08:47:39:02 has a matching audio clip starting at 13:39:36:09. What's more, several of the video clips have the same timecode, even though they're different clips!
I've been through my settings and can find nothing obvious that I've done wrong. It's possible that the DoP and sound recordist have incorrectly synched their timecodes, but unlikely. Can anyone please think of anything that I could be doing differently which would solve the synching problem, or do I have to go back to the other guys and tell them the problem's probably with them?

Sounds like something that has to be done on set, then.
The audio's not being captured by the HVX200, perhaps I didn't make that clear; it's going to a separate hard drive. However, the HVX200 IS recording some audio using the on-board mic for reference, which is the only way I have any chance of synching the audio and video.
While in conversation with the DoP I notice that the filename for each video clip does contain what appears to be a date and time. This makes it possible to match each video clip with the relevant audio clip. However, this still makes it hard for me to do a frame-perfect sync as the timecodes are still radically different.
Anyway, the DoP who owns the FireStore is going to go away and look at it, so I'll let you know what he comes up with.

Audio and Video Sync

Reaching the point of frustration with a relatively simple Imovie project I'm trying to create. I've imported 2 separate groups of .mov files created by a utility that extracted the video from a DVD (DVDxDV). In both cases, the problems began when I selected multiple files to import. The first file would come in okay but by the time the last one was imported the audio was completely out of sync and played the same section of audio for all the video. It seemed I could overcome this by importing the files one at a time until I found that even after doing this and having the files import correctly, over time the audio and video would get out of sync within imovie.
i have all the imports in a particular event and begin to drag segments to my new project. If i close I movie and come back to it later, the audio and video in the project starts to become out of sync. It then usually starts to happen when I preview the video in the event window as well. Importing requires so much time that deleting entire events and projects and starting over is driving me bananas.
Has anyone experienced this before or have any ideas as to what's going on?

I am having the same problem. I am trying to use different video clips for talks. Once I have more than one clip in the video library, it plays audio from the first clip for all video??? Would love to figure this out.

Consolidating audio and video

I created a movie using separate audio and video from three separate disk drives. I would like to consolidate all media used on one of the drives. Will the consolidate media do this or does it just consolidate video? Can I leave my original media where it was originally or will it be move with the consolidation?

You choose Comsolidate Media for a Project. When you do, it will Move (or copy) the events used in the Project to the same drive as the project. It will also copy any audio tracks from iTunes or photos referenced in the project to the same drive as the project. This is a good command to use when you want to edit a project on a different computer, because it puts everything you need in one place.

Audio and video sticking and jumping after installing windows 8.1

I have recently upgraded my system from windows 8 to the windows 8.1 update. Since I updated my audio won't work properly at all. During random intervals when playing songs on itunes the song will jump and stick for a few seconds then continue playing with random jumps like this throught all the songs. When I watch a music video on youtube the audio does the same thing as it does in itunes as well as the video sticking and jumping. I have tried an audio fix I saw on the HP forums that suggested I delete the hd audio driver, hard reset then reinstall them but this didn't have any affect what so ever. This is a huge problem since I can't watch netflix, listen to songs or pretty much do anything media related.
Any help you could give would be really apreciated.

I see that after updating to Windows 8.1 your audio and video sticks or jumps and you have been unable to resolve it. You have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the audio driver to no avail.
I suggest you run The HP Support Assistant to look for updates and help resolve issues. You also have a built in troubleshooter in Windows 8 and 8.1.
Press the Windows key +C to open charms
Type troubleshoot audio/video and press enter
Follow the on screen prompts.
If these steps have failed to resolve the issue, I suggest you do a recovery back to factory and then retry the update.
Performing an HP System Recovery (Windows 8). You will see an option to backup your personal files during this process, if you have not done one yet, I suggest you do one now, to prevent any data loss. Restoring Files that were Backed Up Using HP Recovery Manager (Windows 8)

Audio and Video issue with Windows 8.1 upgrade on Ideapad n585

I upgraded my Ideapad N585 to Windows 8.1 the other day, took forever, but it made it through. Unfortunately, I now get boot erors for the Dolby software, and the AMD Vision/Catalysyt Control Center. Neither of these programs are able to start, from startup or even manually. They just won't run. Sound seems to come out fine still, but I do have video issues.
First off, my computer doesn't seem to recognize a HDtv as a monitor through the HDMI port. I still get an image, but it's set to current screen resolution instead of 1080i. I tried using the detect button to force it to look for a second monitor (my TV), but it showed nothing connected, though at the time I was using two screens. Now my monitor's screen resolution seems to be a little higher than my TV's, but it doesn't fit the screen properly, and will sometimes put a black border around the desktop, not using the full screen. I have also noticed, that when plugged into the tv, if a background program like a screen saver starts (and I am one of the few people who still use them, I like BOINC, sue me), it will reset the screen resolution to what it requires. When the program exits, the screen resolution stays, and that becomes the new max screen resolution until I restart the computer. So far, it only does this through the tv, if I run the laptop monitor alone, it doesn't happen.
I did try updating the software with what's available through the support site, but nothing happened. I even went as far as to use the Windows 9x~XP standbys of completely uninstalling, manually removing everything from the system registry I could find relating to these two programs, and then finally reinstalling the software. Giving the audio and video a complete clean slate to work from, and got no positive results. I restart the computer, Dolby and Catalyst won't boot, and blind to HDtv. Problems as described above still apply.
Anybody else have this issue? Anybody got a fix?

My computer updated to 8.1 without my wanting it to, I have the same problems as you. I installed the video driver because the brightness was locked on what I had it. (the bar would move but did not change)
I searched for brightness and n585 and I was able to find a driver, now brightness works but HDMI still does not. When I plug in the TV both screens go black with all 4 options in the "project" screen.

this worked for me i stumbled across this
I unplugged the power cable with the hdmi cable plugged in. Hit (windows key+p) scrolled to duplicate and it worked.I plugged in the power cord back in and it still worked.
