Audio Applications in Unity Fail-over

Hi all,
I am going to install Cisco Unity with fail-over and what I remember, I should to rebuild the applications like Auto Attendant in secondary server. because this is not part of the replication.
Am I right? or no need to rebuild the applications?

Hi JFV,
That is no longer the case
How Standby Redundancy Works in Cisco Unity 8.x
Cisco Unity standby redundancy uses failover functionality to provide duplicate Cisco Unity servers for disaster recovery. The primary server is located at the primary facility, and the secondary server is located at the disaster-recover facility.
Standby redundancy functions in the following manner:
•Data is replicated to the secondary server, with the exceptions noted in the "Data That Is Not Replicated in Cisco Unity 8.x" section.
•Automatic failover is disabled.
•In the event of a loss of the primary server, the secondary server is manually activated.
Data That Is Not Replicated in Cisco Unity 8.x
Changes to the following Cisco Unity settings are not replicated between the primary and secondary servers. You must manually change values on both servers.
•Registry settings
•Recording settings
•Phone language settings
•GUI language settings
•Port settings
•Integration settings
•Conversation scripts
•Key mapping scripts (can be modified through the Custom Key Map tool)
•Media Master server name settings
•Exchange message store, when installed on the secondary server

  • Unity Fail Over

    Hello guys,
    I need to design a Unity (VoiceMail only) Fail Over. As I understand when the first unity goes down the second one takes the charge. Does it happen automatically? If the first unity comes up, does it switch back to the primary automatically? What is UMR? Does the second one replicated to the primary and copies the VoiceMails that it received while the primary was down? If it replicates to the primary, do we need a larger bandwidth? Could you please put some lights on those points?
    Thanks,

    This might help you. If you go into the tools depot and double click the Fail Over Monitor there is a configure button on the bottom of this window. You can go into the fail over server and schedule the fail back to the primary based on time. Like I have mine set for 2:00am est if the failover server has become active it will try to fail back to the primary every day at 2:00am until it succeeds.
    I would setup the scheduler as soon as you can.
    Note: In the other post it is true UMR stores messages until the message store comes back online but be aware that it only stores new messages. If your message store is down user can not listen to saved messages.
    Also you should only keep Unity and Exchange coresident if you do not plan to have a fail over server. Good rule of thumb is to try to have your message store off box. I always recommend going the UM route onto your corprate exchange so you have a solid repository.
    PLEASE RATE THIS IF IT HELP YOU

  • No audio when from unity express over wan

    Hello,
    I have two cme's with unity expresses, when I make a call across the wan the call is fine however when the call goes to voice mail I see that it is forwarded but I can not hear the audio from unity.

    Had a similar issue with the same setup. Ultimately fixed this by transfer-pattern commands. They were required for CME to hand off the call. 6100-6105 were various attendants and VM pilot numbers at the remote site. Remote extensions were in the 1400s with remote paging in the 400s.
    Under telephony-service
    transfer-pattern 1...
    transfer-pattern 4..
    transfer-pattern 61..
    Your CME knows about it's own extensions but needs to be explicitly told which extensions it is allowed to transfer to. Until it's allowed to do the transfer, the remote CUE won't be contacted.

  • SQL Server 2014 Always on HA takes 8-14 seconds to fail over. Application side timeouts occur

    Hi All,
    I have a very similar post in the SQL Server 2014 forums too (https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/sqlserver/en-US/adb5e338-907e-4405-aa62-d3ea93c7a98a/sql-server-2014-always-on-ha-takes-814-seconds-to-fail-over-application-side-timeouts-occur?forum=sqldisasterrecovery) -
    advice in the end was to post a question here.
    SQL Server Nodes, 2014 (12.0.2480.0)
    1 Share witness (on separate subnet)
    1 Cluster
    1 Listener
    I have been testing the response time to failovers – both manual (right-click, fail over in SSMS) and Automatic (shut down the primary host). The way I am testing response is to have a SSMS query running on my desktop, connected to the listener querying
    a small table and hit execute.
    The Query response time, from execute to receiving the result, has been between 8 and 14 seconds based on my testing. My previous experience (in a separate environment) showed around 2 second fail over times in a very similar configuration.
    Availability DB is 200Mb and is not actively used. The nodes are synchronised.
    SQL Server Hosts: Windows 2012, 2 cpu, 8gb RAM.
    Questions:
    1: It’s a big question but what should I expect for a ‘normal’ fail over time. Keep in mind this scenario is about as simple as it gets.
    2: As it stands an 8 to 14 second ‘outage’ could cause some applications to time out. Or am I being un-reasonable? I am seeing the very simple query in SSMS to time out with this:
    Msg 983, Level 14, State 1, Line 2
    Unable to access availability database 'DATABASE' because the database replica is not in the PRIMARY or SECONDARY role. Connections to
    an availability database is permitted only when the database replica is in the PRIMARY or SECONDARY role. Try the operation again later.
    Cluster logs are long - this section accounts for 8 seconds of the 11 second outage I experienced. I can supply the full log if required. Also this log is just the 2 cluster nodes, I removed the witness share to make sure it was as simple as possible.

    Hi Keegan,
    From these event log , what I can see is "Sending request Netname" wasted the time .
    Could you please tell us the network configuration of that cluster nodes ?
    If I recall correctly , it is recommended to only remain Tcp/IP protocol and disable NetBIOS over TCP/IP for "Private Network" , also do not configure DNS/Wins default gateway for "Private Network" :
    https://support.microsoft.com/kb/258750?wa=wsignin1.0
    After that please test again .

  • How do the application servers connect the new database after failing over from primary DB to standby DB

    How do the application servers connect the new database after failing over from primary DB to standby DB?
    We have setup a DR environment with a standalone Primary server and a standalone Physical Standby server on RHEL Linux 6.4. Now our application team would like to know:
    When the primary DB server is crashed, the standy DB server will takeover the role of primary DB through the DataGuard fast failover. As the applications are connected by the primary DB IP before,currently the physical DB is used as a different IP or listener. If this is happened, they need to stop their application servers and re-configure their connection so the they coonect the new DB server, they cannot tolerate these workaround.
    Whether does oracle have the better solution for this so that the application can automatically know the role's transition and change to the new IP without re-confige any connection and shutdown their application?
    Oracle support provides us the answer as following:
    ==================================================================
    Applications connected to a primary database can transparently failover to the new primary database upon an Oracle Data Guard role transition. Integration with Fast Application Notification (FAN) provides fast failover for integrated clients.
    After a failover, the broker publishes Fast Application Notification (FAN) events. These FAN events can be used in the following ways:
    Applications can use FAN without programmatic changes if they use one of these Oracle integrated database clients: Oracle Database JDBC, Oracle Database Oracle Call Interface (OCI), and Oracle Data Provider for .NET ( ODP.NET). These clients can be configured for Fast Connection Failover (FCF) to automatically connect to a new primary database after a failover.
    JAVA applications can use FAN programmatically by using the JDBC FAN application programming interface to subscribe to FAN events and to execute event handling actions upon the receipt of an event.
    FAN server-side callouts can be configured on the database tier.
    FAN events are published using Oracle Notification Services (ONS) and Oracle Streams Advanced Queuing (AQ).
    =======================================================================================
    Who has the experience and the related documentation or other solutions? we don't have the concept of about FAN.
    Thank very much in advance.

    Hi mesbeg,
    Thanks alot.
    For example, there is an application JBOSS server connecting the DB, we just added another datasource and put the standby IP into the configuration file except adding a service on DB side like this following:
            <subsystem xmlns="urn:jboss:domain:datasources:1.0">
            <datasources>
                    <datasource jta="false" jndi-name="java:/jdbc/idserverDatasource" pool-name="IDServerDataSource" enabled="true" use-java-context="true">
                        <connection-url>jdbc:oracle:thin:@<primay DB IP>:1521:testdb</connection-url>
                        <connection-url>jdbc:oracle:thin:@<standby DB IP>:1521:testdb</connection-url>
                        <driver>oracle</driver>
                        <pool>
                            <min-pool-size>2</min-pool-size>
                            <max-pool-size>10</max-pool-size>
                            <prefill>true</prefill>
                        </pool>
                        <security>
                            <user-name>TEST_USER</user-name>
                            <password>Password1</password>
                        </security>
                        <validation>
                            <valid-connection-checker class-name="org.jboss.jca.adapters.jdbc.extensions.oracle.OracleValidConnectionChecker"/>
                            <validate-on-match>false</validate-on-match>
                            <background-validation>false</background-validation>
                            <use-fast-fail>false</use-fast-fail>
                            <stale-connection-checker class-name="org.jboss.jca.adapters.jdbc.extensions.oracle.OracleStaleConnectionChecker"/>
                            <exception-sorter class-name="org.jboss.jca.adapters.jdbc.extensions.oracle.OracleExceptionSorter"/>
                        </validation>
                    </datasource>
                    <drivers>
                        <driver name="oracle" module="com.oracle.jdbc">
                            <xa-datasource-class>oracle.jdbc.OracleDriver</xa-datasource-class>
                        </driver>
                    </drivers>
                </datasources>
            </subsystem>
    If the failover is occurred, the JBOSS will automatically be pointed to the standby DB. Additional actions are not needed.

  • Unity Connection 10.5(1)SU1a Publisher/Subscriber failing over

    Recently upgraded to Unity Connection version: 10.5.1ES78.11901-78 from 9.1.2ES46.12900-46.
    After upgrading we are experiencing an issue whereby the pub continually fails over to the sub without any obvious reason for the fail over. We've experienced this bug before on 9.1.1 which was the reason for the upgrade to 9.1.2. There is no bug case that is established for this issue on v10.5(1)SU1a. Pub is still taking calls in secondary state but obviously the need for stability between the nodes is necessary.
    Anyone else experience or know of any issues on this most recently released version?
    Thanks

    To start with you can check if the replication is setup correctly and if any core dumps are being generated on the servers.

  • CUMP 8.5; Should Director Fail-Over Cause Audio Conf Be Discon?

    We have a two region CUMP 8.5.5.14 global deployment with WebEx Type II deployment, which we are now piloting. We have a primary Director in one region and a backup Director in another. During fail-over testing in which we establish an audio/web meeting (using the primary Director to setup the call), and we force a failover of the primary Director (by disconnecting network connection(s). After approximately 5 minutes, the audio conference is disconnected. Callers can call back in, but I’m trying to understand whether this Director failover behavior is expected, where the audio conference would be disconnected. Otherwise , failover to backup Director does appear to be operating OK.
    Thanks.

    Hi Michael,
    That is expected behavior.

    Configuring Meeting Director Nodes
    Your first node is automatically configured as the Primary Meeting  Director node. The second node you add to your system is automatically  configured as the Secondary Meeting Director node. If your Primary  Meeting Director node fails, your Secondary Meeting Director node  becomes the active Meeting Director. Any conferences currently running  on the system are interrupted but attendants can dial back in  immediately.

  • How Front End pool deals with fail over to keep user state?

         Hello to all, I searched a lot of articles to understand how Lync 2010 keeps user state if a fail happens in a Front Pool node, but didn't find anything clear.
         I found a MS info. about ths topic : " The Front End Servers maintain transient information—such as logged-on state and control information for an IM, Web, or audio/video (A/V) conference—only for the duration of a user’s session.
    This configuration
    is an advantage because in the event of a Front End Server failure, the clients connected to that server can quickly reconnect to another Front End Server that belongs to the same Front End pool. "
        As I read, the client uses DNS to reconnect to another Front End in the pool. When it reconnects to an available server, does he lose what he/she was doing at Lync client? Can the server that is now hosting his section recover all
    "user's session data"? Is positive, how?
       Regards, EEOC.

    The presence information and other dynamic user data is stored in the RTCDYN database on the backend SQL database in a 2010 pool:
    http://blog.insidelync.com/2011/04/the-lync-server-databases/  If you fail over to another pool member, this pool member has access to the same data.

  • Time out fail over

    On this system:
    OS: Solaris 10 11/06 s10s_u3wos_10 SPARC
    Cluster version: 3.1u4
    A- Normally after how much time resource is moved to the other node if ipmp fails (e.g. gateway is unreacheable) ?
    B- What happens if ipmp fails in both server ? packages are kept on their nodes ?
    C- Does it exist timeout over 10 minutes in cluster configuration ?

    u have 2 options - u could increase the back end time out to a very large value so that server can wait rather than timing out rather than failing over or to do some thing like
    <Object name=default>
    NameTrans fn=map from=/ name=reverse-proxy-/
    </Object>
    <Object name=reverse-proxy-/>
    Route fn=set-origin-server server=server1
    ObjectType fn=http-client-config timeout=600
    </Object>
    see - http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/820-4841/gdhrg?a=view
    ( or simply disable any fail over but have different individual servers distributing load across different application)
    split your uri or application so that each application goes to 1 back end server. for example, let us say - u have 2 java applications that u would like jboss to do the job for you, u could do some thing like
    now, u could edit your obj.conf or (<vs>-obj.conf) depending on your configuration so that it looks like this
    <Object name=default>
    NameTrans fn=map from=/ name=reverse-proxy-/
    </Object>
    <Object name=reverse-proxy-/>
    <If $uri =~ /foo1>
    Route fn=set-origin-server server=<&#349;erver1>
    </If>
    <If $uri =~ /foo2>
    Route fn=set-origin-server server=<&#349;erver2>
    </If>
    </Object>
    btw - i will file a RFE on your behalf for this feature.

  • Exception while failing over to 2nd RAC Node

    We are using Weblogic 10.3.4. Our setup is that we have a Web Application (A tapestry front end Web UI) and EJb 2.1 back-end talking to the Oracle database. The EJB’s are CMP. Our product always was just stand alone and it wasn’t until this release we needed to make it work with RAC. To get this to work we followed the model of having a Multidatasource with datasources pointing to our RAC nodes. We have two types of datasources that we use persistent and non-persistent. And we are using the Oracle thin driver – non-XA for RAC Service Instances, supporting global transactions.
    When we do failover to the 2nd node we get a nasty exception in our GUI but after logging out and logging back it we are fine.
    My question is that I assumed I shouldn't have to restart our web-application and it should have stayed up ?? Or is there something wrong with our setup ?
    Thanks,
    Ian

    Showing us the exception and/or the error messages at the server might help...
    Note that failing over does not save any ongoing connection or transaction that
    had been to the dead RAC node... Does your web-app get-use-close JDBC
    connections on a per-user-invoke basis, or does it hold onto connections?

  • Firefox Proxy Fail-over is not working correctly

    I am in a corporate environment, where we must use a complex auto-proxy, by configuring an automatic proxy configuration of http://proxyconf/proxy.pac. I am seeing an intermittent failure with Firefox 3.6.13, where the same site will load after a delay in IE (e.g. it works for half an hour, then fails for a while, etc.).
    By using Wireshark and tracing the packets, I have identified that a proxy server is intermittently failing, and Firefox is failing to try the second proxy. The auto proxy rule that is being invoked is:
    if (!isResolvable(host)) return "PROXY 172.16.39.201:8080; PROXY 10.241.32.28:8080";
    The problem is that Firefox is never failing over - it tries the 172 address 6 times in a row, then gives up and displays the "The proxy server is refusing connections" "Firefox is configured to use a proxy server that is refusing connections." "* Check the proxy settings to make sure that they are correct." "* Contact your network administrator to make sure the proxy server is working." error message. It continues with this behavior regardless of how many attempts, reloads, restarts are tried.
    IE on the other hand will try and fail with the 172 address, and then start using the 10. address (which works correctly). Several other applications also work correctly, such as IRC clients.
    Obviously the corporate proxy that is failing must be fixed, however Firefox is failing to utilitize the 2nd proxy after the first one fails.
    Seems like a bug.
    Is there some easy way for me to replace the proxy file with my own file? E.g. replace http://http://proxyconf/proxy.pac with file://c:\..., or use some add-on?
    It must be an autoproxy script, as there is no single proxy that I can use for all addresses.

    You can correct this issue by forcing the file blocklist.xml to update or wait until Firefox updates the file.<br />
    That update will remove the severity="0" flags in the file that cause the problem.

    yes that is right.
    Essentially you should be doing one of the following on weblogic side:
    1) Installed Certs on weblogic that were obtained from a commercial CA. (like verisign, thawte etc)
    In this case, you will receive rootCA crt along with the other bundled certs and private key.
    these rootCA certs are publicly available (your browser will be already using them)
    2) Using certs signed by your company. (companies can maintain their own CA)
    In this case you should be having a rootCA cert from your company.
    3) using demo certs that were shipped with weblogic.
    In this case, the rootca cert can be obtained from DemoTrust.jks
    this is documented at http://e-docs.bea.com/wls/docs90/plugins/isapi.html#114851 (should be same for any plugins)
    Apache plug-in can understand .crt extension.

  • Failing over Oracle connections in a pool

              Hi,
              This message is probably a bit out of context (I've already posted
              it to the JDBC group). I post here as well, since I guess it's
              the place where people have the most experience with clustering
              and HA. Original posting below...
              Could you please tell me whether, yes or no, connections to an
              Oracle database should fail over (when the database fails over
              to another machine)? I use Oracle's Transparent Application Failover
              (configured via Net8) with Weblogic 6 on Linux and Oracle 8.1.7
              on Solaris/SPARC.
              If this doesn't work in my configuration, is there any configuration
              where it should work? (Another version of Oracle, WLS, OS, ...)
              When I try TAF using the PetStore application, I get exceptions
              related to no being connected to the database.
              If TAF doesn't work with WebLogic, is there a way to work around
              the problem? Can I catch these exceptions and renew the connections
              in the pool? Or, what else is possible...?
              I'd appreciate any help. I'd like to demonstrate our HA product
              with WLS. If it doesn't work, I'll turn to iPlanet instead. Pity,
              I really like WLS!
              Thanks in advance for any help or advice!
              Regards, Frank Olsen

              Hi (Frank ;-)
              I got carried away a bit too fast...
              Some more testing shows that it doesn't work in all cases:
              - when someone is trying to check out the shopping cart when the
              the database fails (and fails over), I get exceptions once the
              databses has restarted on the backup node
              - the exceptions are related to some transactions being rolled
              back and Oracle stating that it couldn't safely replay the transactions
              - browsing the categories still works fine
              - all access to the shopping cart and sign-in/sign-out causes time-outs
              and exceptions
              Any ideas what may cause this problem, please?
              Regards,
              Frank Olsen

  • Failed over to a Aysnc Replica and now previous primary replica(Now Secondary) is in NOT SYNC state

    Hello All,
    Here is my situation :
    3 Nodes in an AG configuration, and its a multi-site cluster. Sync commit between 2 nodes in one DC and Async commit to a node in the DR DC.
    AG is failed over to the Async Replica which is the DR site and all the databases comes up fine and application also can connect using the listener.
    When checked the state of secondary databases, its in NOT SYNC mode. Data is suspended automatically.  I can resume data movement to fix the problem, but was curious why this will be in NOT SYNC mode?
    Thanks in advance.
    Thank you,
    Anup

    Hello Anup,
    The reason this happens is because of the forced failover needed to be used when moving to an Async replica. It will cause all other replicas to become suspended due to the fact that it is never known if data loss will occur or not.
    It might not make sense right now, but think about a situation where the databases are not synchronized and failover is forced (it has to work in all situations). There may be a good bit of data on the primary replica that has not yet made it (or partially)
    to the async secondary. It wouldn't make sense to negotiate the primary back down (after all, it's the async one) and undo valid transactions. It also allows for a database snapshot or other method to be done on the old sync primary which could be used for
    DR purposes to get those valid transactions and data out.

  • After adding 2nd WiSM and failing over AP's some apps don't work

    We have a dual core made up of 2 6513's. In 6513#1 we have WiSM#1 which we have had for sometime now. We have added a 2nd WiSM in 6513#2 for redundancy purposes also we are going to be re-configuring the WiSM in 6513#1 to more match that of the new WiSM in 6513#2. We have installed the new WiSM and failed over the AP's from 6513#1 so we can re-configure it's WiSM. The failover went great and no issues, with the exception that a web application or two didn't function from wireless clients and users were having issues getting to some mapped drives. The only difference from the new WiSM config vs the old WiSM is that on the old WiSM the AP's were in the same VLAN as the controller management interfaces. Now with the new WiSM it's configuration has the controllers AP mgt interfaces ip addresses in a different VLAN from the AP's, we are doing this based on Cisco best practices. If we revert the AP's back to the original WiSM/controllers the PC's where they are on the same vlan/subnet the applications and shares that were having issues the other way work. We have placed a call with Cisco TAC and they say our configs look good and we even sent them some packet captures and they said everything looks normal. The wireless clients can ping and resolve the server hosting the application database just fine.
    Thanks

    We did create the mobility groups, and we are using DHCP opt 43. The AP's find the 2nd WiSM#2 just fine and associate to the controllers and all the WLAN's work just fine. The only issue is that after the AP's are on the new WiSM and controllers there is an application or 2 that is having trouble locating it's database server and that some share's are not working. Again the only difference in this new setup in that now the AP's are on a different subnet/vlan from the controller mgt addresses where as before they were in the same subnet/vlan and the application and shares worked fine. It's almost like it is a bit of a routing issue?
    Thanks
