Audio Behaviour : As parameter controller

I've been trying out the audio behaviour to control various parameters but it's use seems a bit hit and miss.
The little preview window, which shows the frequency bands doesn't seem to be particularly reliable - either it doesn't react at all, or the bands do not seem to correspond with what is happening with the audio (i.e. when the little play button is pressed below the freq-bands window). I can however get it to control various parameters - just that it's setup doesn't seem to working properly.
Anyone else getting issues like this?

if i have a simple stroke (linear) with some other control points on it. how is it possible to attach motions audio behaviour, so that these control points react to... let's say a basedrum?
sure, you can attach it to the strokes transform, rotation etc. parameters, but i haven't figured out, how to attach it, so that when basedrum kicks in, the control points (under the geometry-tab) move up - and then down, when theres no basedrum.
i think u can't do this with a simple audio behaviour...

Audio behaviour to stroke

hi folks!
i tried to attach an audio behaviour to a stroke (should look like a simple wave-form), so that its points move to a specific frequency (e.g. voice) from an audio source.
it should react as shown in this tutorial (trapcode form was used in this one):

i've already tried the audio behaviour (parameter) to stroke and a few wiggle behaviours (on form and with parameters), but they do not react on silent parts...instead the stroke moves permanently.
has anyone a solution or do i have to wait for trapcode form plugin ready for motion?

Puzzling HDMI Audio behaviour

Hi all
I have a 2010 model 13" Mac Book Pro and a no-name mini display port to HDMI cable adaptor.
I could understand if there was no audio at all, even though the adaptor claims to carry the audio. However the behaviour I do see is this:
The video output is flawless and the sound effects are played on the connected Panasonic TV.
Music (iTunes) and soundtrack from video (Quicktime and Plex) does not play from the TV (despite it being available to select in System preferences sound pane).
I am thoroughly confused, why do the sound effects play on the TV but the music and soundtrack do not?

the System Preferences pane says for the TV "The selected device has no output controls" but it is clearly identified as "Panasonic-TV".

Sending audio samples to midi controller

i have logic pro 8 and i was wondering how to send chopped up samples of an audio file to my midi controller which is an axiom 49. for example, i wanna chop up some vocals and instrument loops from a song called dazed and confused to create a hip hop song and i ve seen it done before on youtube just wondering how to do it.

Not sure what you mean by sending audio samples to your MIDI controller. Maybe you'd like to play or trigger these samples from your controller? One way is to cut them up (lots of ways to do this in Logic) and then assign the resultant bits of audio as samples in the EXS sample player. You can also assign these samples in Ultrabeat.
You'll need a basic familiarity with editing in Logic, as well as some fundamental knowledge of the EXS sampler or Ultrabeat.

Insering Audio in CS6 CC - controller files: only Play and Pause?!

audio : controller files - there is only possibility for Play/Pause - what about Stop and progress slider bar (it was in CS4!)

There was no DPS in CS4 so I'm not sure what you're referring to.

M-Audio Axiom 25 Keyboard Controller

I am thinking of buying this keyboard as M=Audio says it compatible with GB. However, some research shows that people are having problems making the drum keypads work as well as the rotary controllers. Is anyone familiar with this midi controller or can you recommend a product that will work well.

The Axiom series is not fully compatible with GB. The rotaries and transport buttons on the 25 as well as the sliders on the 49 & 61 will not work as GB has no customizable MIDI mapping options. The pads do work although I have never bothered to use mine and therefore look into programming the axioms pads with note numbers.
If you are wanting control over the sliders and rotaries with a keyboard all built in then its the M-Audio Oxygen series you want to look into.
I personally like my Axiom for most things. IMHO I think it is important to look beyond GarageBand when buying a MIDI controller as sooner or later you will more than likely look into other DAWs that are a bit more sophisticated and buying twice always hurts.

No audio MISSING AUDIO MIXER - SM BUS CONTROLLER - VOLUME CONTROL

Working fine until the end of April (15) - tried reinstalling windows xp (repair) - installed the required audio devices / drivers.
Realtek ALC888 (integrated) on board with Nvidia 6150 LE graphics. AMD K8 Processor Athion 64 X2 Dual Core 3800+
ASUS A8M2N-LA NODUSM3 GL8E Motherboard WINDOWS XP PRO
Can'f find chipsets anywhere online - contacted HP - MICROSOFT - ASUS - AMD no one willing to help.
Device Manager doesn't show at all - no device - no yellow ! - no red x - absolutely nothing for the following:
SM BUS CONTROLLER
When trying to update driver states MUST select and INSTALL via the DEVICE MANAGER - Only problem is - it is NOT LISTED ANYWHERE in the device manager tree.
Install RealTEK drivers - RESULT - Limited Audio from RealTEK HD Audio Manager - Can hear TEST Audio I/O default Sample thru headset.
THERE IS NO -
Volume Control either in the MENU >> Programs >> Accessories >> Entertainment ( NOTHING !!) No program. no icon. no options. It is also MISSING from the SYSTEM (taskbar) Tray (lower right of desktop)
If I use Audacity and MANUALLY load a WAV or MP3 file - I get audio
DXDiag claims DIRECTSOUND is missing driver
Adobe SoundBooth CS4 also will manually retrieve and PLAY WAV - MP3 - OGG - AU files ( I can hear thru headphones (rear panel))
Any video including off and online will work just fine - if any audio, cannot hear it.
The system has been flawless for a number of years - it is just within the last two weeks, it has NOT worked regarding audio - GRAPHICS, GRAPHIC SOFTWARE, VIDEO PLAYBACK all work.
Go to CONTROL PANEL >> Sounds and Audio Devices - EVERYTHING is greyed out - NO Playback Device, No Audio Device, No Speaker settings or Device Volume Controls - just a panel showing nothing is connected or selectable.
CLICK HARDWARE TAB - SELECT - Choose any device (Audio) and states the device is working properly and is enabled.
On BOOT - Windows Audio Service is STARTED, set to AUTOMATIC
Bootlog shows WA Service Started, but individual Audio Device Drivers DO NOT LOAD!
Device Manager SHOWS NO WARNINGS - of broken or disabled drivers anywhere (looks normal at a glance)
Have run out of ideas to try and fix the problem. ANYONE have any kind of NEW ideas - beyond uninstalling / reinstalling drivers? (Have done that no fewer than 50 - 75 times!).
Thanks for any advice, beyond suggesting getting a new machine - There are practical reasons for not wanting to - based on work related XP specific proprietary installed software (Engineering-applications).

Weird audio behaviour from merged clips... 5 channels into 25?!

hello helpful community,
So, I have hand-synced quite a few clips for a project, and made sub clips by dragging everything into a bin.
The original audio files were .wav with 5 mono tracks, according to the modify clip window…
Now, after merging them, when I drag them into a new sequence to edit, the audio contains 25 channels, and the vast majority of them are blank… there is only audio on track 1,7,13,19 and 25.
Anyone fathom why 5 tracks became 25? I thought maybe each original track was a 5.1 track or something, so it split it into 25 mono tracks, but it says in the modify window that they are mono.
Any help would be great.

Does manually deleting the additional audio tracks cause problems to propagate forwards? Any idea when this issue might be rectified?

Weird and occasional audio behaviour

Hello everybody
I've always had this strange problem with Archlinux, and eventually I decidede to ask your opinion about it.
Sometimes I turn on my PC and audio doesn't work... Only in some applications!
Let me make it more clear: on these unlucky starts, I can hear KDE's login sound, as well as skype and kopete notifications, and even the bells when kmail receives a new mail.
Nevertheless, if I try to launch amarok, mplayer, mpc, youtube or anything else audio will simply not work [mplayer plays but reports an error about its being unable to find an audio device, amarok doesn't even start playing, youtube shows the video but no audio and so on].
When this happens, I simply reboot, and tipycally everything gets back normal on the second [or third, or else] time I boot.
Any clue what this could be?
Further informations:
* I [finally successfully] DID switch to systemd
* this problem didn't seem to appear after a particular update
* in phonon my backend is gstreamer
* whenever I need to set the volume [speakers, microphone, ...] I open a terminal and run alsamixer

kde notifications system always keeps the soundcard you set in phonon busy, so if your soundcard does not work well with that, you might have to use dmix with alsa, unless you you have an audio server like jack in your setup, in which case the solution will be another

USB 3.0 audio interface and MIDI controller

I´ve got the Macbook Pro Retina (2012) with only USB 3.0 ports. Today, i learned that no audio interface beneeth xxxx$ is compatible with this standard, and will only work with USB 2.0. I´ve also got Thunderbolt ports, but those audio interfaces are just as expencive and far out of my league. Same goes for MIDI controllers.
Is there any way to come around this problem? There seems to be a lack of information regarding this issue around the internet. I want to buy the Balance audio interface for Propellerheads Reason, but I get the feeling it´s not going to work (at least thats what the guy at the local store told me).
USB 2.0 hubs are also not going to work, as far as I know. Any ideas?

Okay everyone,
As I wasn't able to solve the problem myself, I decided to replace my old interface for a brand new one. The problem clearly was the age of the old interface.
In a particular music store I was allowed to test four individual USB audio interfaces that worked perfectly on both 10.9 and W7.
For those interested, I now use a Roland Quad-Capture (UA-55) which has great preamps!

M-Audio iControl Garageband MIDI Controller

Anybody using it with GB2? It looks handy...but does it work? Also, are there any potential issues with using it simultaneously with another USB device such as a USB Keyboard or audio interface?

edit - sorry, just read that you tried the midisport-firmware package. I would see if a windows machine will run it. If you have a key lying around, run a virtualbox vm and use the usb pass-through capability of the oracle plug-in. Or ... just windows on a machine, depending on what you're comfortable with.
I'll try to do that as soon as I can, although I think it won't work because my kernel doesn't seem to recognize the device, therefore, it shouldn't appear in virtualbox...

The issue was with the STRING VARIABLE in parameters decelaration.I just changed it to RLGRAP-FILENAME it worked.
Try these codes.

Very low volume using M-Audio O2 usb controller

When I attached my M-Audio O2 usb midi controller I get VERY low audio on garage band. Any ideas???

open Track "i"nfo, open "Details", click the pencil icon to the far right of the Generator popUp, and increase the volume.

What behaviour do you recommend to do this ... ?

I have a sequence that is about 3 minutes long.
Every *30 seconds* I want my camera to quickly zoom in (go forward in the Z plane), then Pan up, Pan down, then zoom out again to its original position.
This whole movement will last about *5 seconds* on the timeline.
Is there a behaviour (per parameter) I could apply to the *whole timeline* to do this or would I have to insert individual behaviours every 30 seconds manually?
I ask because in the future I may have to extend my sequence length.
(In the past I used Oscillate to move the camera backwards and forwards. But in that case, the movement was continuous. In this case above, the movement happens for 5 seconds in every 30.)
Or.. would you keyframe it and use *After last keyframe->Repeat* ?

If I were doing this in After Effects, I'd use a null and parent the camera to the null. Then I can add, tweak, copy, and paste any and all movements for the null and know the camera will simply follow along.
I can even save the null's movements as a separate composition so it is available for future projects as a camera movement controller.
However, Motion's behaviors are an elegant and quick solution. And, I will readily admit, I do not even understand the simple steps you made in your Original Post. congrats for intuiting how to use several behaviors I have not yet explored.

Help, basic question, no audio output?

I have a Mac Pro running latest version of Logic Pro. I'm not new to audio software (come from a Cakewalk background on the Windows platform), but I'm relatively new to Mac Pro and Logic Pro.
I seem unable to get any audio output from my setup when using a Logic Midi Track (i.e. GM Device Piano).
My hardware:
Mac Pro
M-Audio Axiom 25 Keyboard/controller (connected via USB to Mac Pro)
MOTU UltraLite (connected via FireWire to Mac Pro)
M-Audio ProjectMix I/O (connected via FireWire to Mac Pro)
I can bring up the Loop Browser and play loops and place loops in the Arrange view but I can't seem to use my USB/MIDI M-Audio Keyboard to generate any Audio via the Motu.
Also, I can see the Midi events in the Logic Transport Window.
If I load up garageband the M-Audio & Motu Ultralite work just fine, so I'm confused as to what I'm not doing right in Logic Pro? It must be something really basic I'm missing.
Sorry for such a basic lame question, but I'm stumped!

well of course there is no official word on when an update to logic will arrive with a significant GUI overhaul. personally I hope that such a step is taken carefully.. this software is the backbone of many people's working life, so and big changes to the interface are hopefully being considered and integrated carefully.
I'd hope that a major overhaul to the logic UI won't just be cosmetic. there is a lot of legacy code left over from emagic days that do not make use of the latest OSX technology and so are not optimised. an example - look at how slow the screenset changes are. there is always a delay in response time to when you change a screenset, in some cases this can actually be slower than it was on older machines running OS9. as far as I can tell this is because it's all part of some custom graphics code in logic and doesn't make use of OSX quartz and probably not the graphics card effectively either. as a comparison, look at how incredibly responsive exposé is. it always seems to stay that responsive regardless of CPU load, so there has got to be a way to make the GUI features of logic perform just as snappily as the system ones.
same goes for the painful, annoying delay in mouse click response time, which is worse since OSX than it was under os9. a rewrite of logic's UI will hopefully sort this problem out too.
these things may seem like irrelevant nitpicks, but trust me, when you become a power user and you are cutting audio and throwing parts of your arrangement around like nobody's business, the sticky slow response of the GUI really penalises you.
