Audio Bin - Select unused - Delete - Hangs on 100% CPU for long time

Hi
I am running Logic Studio 9.0.2 on OS X 10.5.8 on a Mac Pro. Logic was upgraded from version 7.
In Audio Bin and "Select Unused" and then "Delete", the application might hang on 100% CPU for hours on large projects.
Anyone with an idea of what the problem might be? This was not a problem i Logic Pro 7.
Thanks!
GD

I have this same problem, though I'm on 10.5.7. I was hoping maybe updating the OS would help but apparently not. I also get very slow file-selection windows sometimes, like when I go to bounce a file. Navigating to a specific folder is painfully slow. Would like to hear if any Snow Leopard users are experiencing this.

  • Why does iTunes use 100% CPU all the time, hogging my Macbook Air?

    Decided to post this here instead of the iTunes forum, since it might be related to hardware too.
    New owner of a 2011 13" Macbook Air, core i5 based.
    My problem started about 1 week ago, after it had run out of power completely one day. At the first boot after that it was incredibly sluggish, totally unusable. After waiting for 5 minutes and still being unresponsive, I turned it off and then back on. Then it booted fine. HOWEVER, ever since that time I noticed the following behavior:
    - iTunes stays at 100% + CPU all the time, mostly between 100-120%. Even if it's not playing. Even when I deleted the entire library and left it empty.
    - iStats reports CPU idle between 50-65%. However, CPU temperature is still about 55 degrees C (which, I think, is far less than what it should have been with 50% idle cpu). I can confirm the low temperature by touching the chasis.
    - the cursor freezes and jumps every few seconds, making the mac kind of unusable with iTunes open.
    This has been going on for 2 weeks now. The problem goes away every now and then (iTunes sometimes goes back to regular CPU usage of 3-5%), but most of the time it's there.
    Help!
    P.S.

    Cee Pee You, is a OS modification. Apple recommends that you un-install these prior to a OS update because Apple makes changes to the OS all the time which breaks programs like these.
    I avoid Unsanity LLC products like the plague. Notice the company is a Limited Liability Corporation (LLC), which makes it difficult to sue the company in case of a defective or malicious product. So the risk using their products is all yours. Their APE framework modules have been used for malicious purposes because anyone can write a module that uses the APE framework.
    I also avoid installing anything that requires a administrative password unless I completely trust the source, like Apple mostly. That admin password is the key to the security of our machines, not to be given out lightly or carelessly.
    You'll have to contact Unsanity's [email protected] because what I'm reading online is it's very difficult to remove as it doesn't "exist".

  • Cldg switch command hangs for long time

    Hello Experts ,
    We have renamed the veritas volumes vol1 and vol2 of disk group "dg", which is under cluster control.
    The renaming of volumes are successfully completed and modification updated in Cluster CCR (cldg sync dg) and volumes are mounted successfully in node002.
    We have switch over the disk group "dg" from node002 to node004. The disk group switch over to the node node004 successfully and able to mount the volumes.
    Again, we have switch over the disk group "dg" from node004 to node002, but the switch command is not successful and hanged for long time. When we check the /var/adm/messages in node002, the below messages appeared

    Please advice on this error and how to resolve this.

    But what is device mtp0? It doesn't sound like a disk name. It is having SCSI problems. I don't know if these messages are relevant though.
    I don't use VxVM as a rule, but your procedure seems reasonable to me.

  • Doc2text process using 100% cpu for way too long

    I've run into this issue before, and have never received a satisfactory resolution.
    When we publish certain PDF documents via collab to the KD, the doc2text process on our portal servers (also our API servers) spin up to 100% CPU for about 90 seconds. This causes the publish from collab to fail, so we resort to directly uploading the file to the KD via content upload.
    1) Why is doc2text running on our portal servers in the first place? Is this a result of the portal server or api service? If i move the API service off to another machine, will that remove this CPU hog from our front end servers?
    2) Has anyone seen this before, or found a way around it? Is there a newer version of doc2text in 10gR3 that isn't so terrible?
    I'm preparing to move to 1-cpu virtuals in our new environment so any process that takes up 100% of the CPU is going to kill performance.

    Doc2text is native search client functionality used by portal, automation, ws, collab, publisher, etc. The portal components use it when indexing content to search server. It is installed seperately with each portal component. If you have multiple portal components installed on the same box, the ones that use Doc2text will share it from the common folder where it is located. Doc2text uses different libraries for the purpose of raw text extraction and processing, the processed information being sent in a proprietary format to the search server.
    Doc2text is a processor heavy component as it needs to execute intensives tasks necessary to parse and extract raw data from such file formats as Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat. Some files may be more complex to extract data from and take longer for this task to complete.
    The best way to increase performance would be to install the various portal components onto their own machines. For example not installing portal and automation on seperate servers. This way when you run a crawler job that imports files, the running of doc2text will not use cpu cycles on the portal web server.

  • Gnome-open starts /bin/bash -ic (uname) and uses 100% CPU to open gvim

    I've posted this on stackoverflow and got no answer, hopefully some archers can help me out:
    When I execute
    gnome-open textfile
    I expect gvim to open up. Instead what happens is that the command hangs. When I check htop I see:
    /bin/bash -ic (uname) > /tmp/{some random string of characters}
    using 100% of the CPU. When I kill the process (and I have to use -9), then cpu usage goes back to normal and gvim opens.
    Running
    gvim -f textfile
    without gnome-open works perfectly.
    Any ideas where this process is coming from? Or what it's even doing?
    /bin/bash -ic (uname)
    doesn't even run for me.
    Thank you!

  • [SOLVED] mandb hangs, taking 100% CPU

    I have a VPS running Arch (limited to kernel 3.9.4-1 by the provider). The system was unceremoniously rebooted last night due to a power outage at their facility. When it came back up, the mandb process being run by cron was taking 100% of the CPU and had been running for ~10 hours by the time I noticed it.
    I eventually killed the mandb process and re-tried it manually with debugging turned on: `mandb -d`. It appears that processing stops at /usr/share/man/man5/core.5.gz (this is the last output I see, even if I leave it running for an hour or two). Even after the output stops, it is still taking 100% CPU. Anyone have any ideas or other things to try debugging it? I'm all out.

    I re-installed man-pages with `pacman -S man-pages` and then received the following messages:
    Purging old database entries in /usr/share/man...
    Processing manual pages under /usr/share/man...
    Updating index cache for path `/usr/share/man/man2'. Wait...mandb: bad fetch on multi key alarm 2
    mandb: index cache /var/cache/man/3354 corrupt
    Then, after running
    mandb -c
    subsequent calls to `mandb` executed successfully. Problem solved. I guess maybe mandb was running when the power outage occurred, corrupting the man index cache... makes me wonder what else got corrupted that I haven't noticed yet.

  • Application hang for long time (unable to load)

    hi and a very good day to all..
    i am a new user of J2ME and i am currently using Sun Wireless Toolkit to run a sample program. But, there are some error occur when i open it from the Open Project in Sun Wireless Toolkit. Once i click the launch button on the emulator, it will show the graphic but with a statement 'Please Wait'. it seems like my application is going happen to hang for quite a long time (i even can't open it at all). it happen every time i open my project and i unable to load my program successfully. i want 2 ask, is it because of teh coding? or my pc? or the Sun Wireless Toolkit itself? i never change/edit the coding, since this the sample application of Mobile Compass i downloading from the internet.
    there are bundle of code in my application (single application)..but the error 'Please Wait' basically come from 1 of the coding. i'll show it below:
    **THE CODE**
    package org.qcontinuum.compass;
    import javax.microedition.lcdui.*;
    import java.util.*;
    abstract public class Progress extends Form implements CommandListener, Runnable {
    private Displayable mParent;
    private Command mCancelCommand;
    private Thread mThread;
    // private Timer mTimer;
    public Progress(String title, Displayable parent) {
    super(title);
    mParent = parent;
    append(new StringItem(null, "Please wait...\n"));
    addCommand(mCancelCommand = new Command("Cancel", Command.CANCEL, 0));
    setCommandListener(this);
    mThread = new Thread(this);
    public void start() {
    mThread.start();
    abstract public void run();
    public void commandAction(Command c, Displayable d) {
    if (c == mCancelCommand) {
    Compass.display(mParent);
    p/s: is it the above error related to java.lang.NullPointerException? this is because, with unexpected situation, suddenly the compass program able to download successfully (only sometime), but still it give some error like below, and i still can select the Time Zone for my destination chosen from the given map.

    Hi,
    Do you have variable replaced by another query? If that is case, you will get performance issue, when the prequery is runnig when call var screen.
    Do you have variable replaced by authorization? If that is case, for the user will complicated authroization, it will take some time to fill it.
    In general, when the variable screen is calling, have you check in sm66, what is the work process doing? In RSRT->run this query with statistics, which part takes most time?

  • Delete Index in Process Chain Takes long time after SAP BI 7.0 SP 27

    After upgrading to SAP BI 7.0 SP 27 Delete index Process & Create index process in Process chain takes long time.
    For example : Delete index for 0SD_C03 takes around 55 minutes.
    Before SP upgrade it takes around 2 minutes to delete index from 0SD_C03.

    Hi,
    Normally  index  creation or deletion can take long time in case  your database statistics are not updated properly, so can check  stat  after your data loading is completed and index generation is done,  Do creation of database statistics.
    Then try to recheck ...

  • [Solved (partially)] 100% CPU for Reader

    Here is a detailed description why Reader ends up using 100% CPU (output taken from strace, unimportant lines removed):
    socket(PF_INET, SOCK_STREAM, IPPROTO_TCP) = 12
    connect(12, {sa_family=AF_INET, sin_port=htons(80), sin_addr=inet_addr("192.150.8.100")}, 16) = -1 EINPROGRESS (Operation now in progress)
    poll([{fd=3, events=POLLIN}, {fd=12, events=POLLOUT}], 2, 0) = 0 (Timeout)
    poll([{fd=3, events=POLLIN}, {fd=12, events=POLLOUT}], 2, 15) = 0 (Timeout)
    until here, everything is fine. Reader polls for events on the socket descriptors with a timeout of 15ms.
    I our case, Reader is running on a Kiosk system, so connection to most hosts are forbidden, including pmupsw.adobe.com ("192.150.8.100"). So after some time the connection fails.
    poll([{fd=3, events=POLLIN}, {fd=12, events=POLLOUT}], 2, 13) = 1 ([{fd=12, revents=POLLERR|POLLHUP}])
    Unfortunately, now the poll() returns immediately. Reader does not handle the POLLERR, so it ends up polling the socket in a tight loop.

    Running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS on HP6715 notebook. I had the 100% cpu utilization issue. I changed the adobe proxy setting from direct connect to manual. I entered the proxy settings at my company. This fixed the issue. It would be nice if adobe could use the system proxy settings.
    This issue was documented here

  • Laserjet 1020 Poor Print Quality printer unused for long time

    My Laserjet 1020 sat unused for a long time
    I ran cleaner sheets through it
    I changed the toner cartridge
    I cleaned the inside with a vacuum and air duster (it was not dirty though)
    I still get this.  Consistently.  No change in quality.
    What could I have missed?
    Thanks

    43,
    Ink has a limited life span.  It is sad, I know.  The ink in the printer may just be "old" beyond it's actual age.
    I have an old J6480 that I use only occasionally -- it is such a good printer that I keep it in spite of the fact that I might have to change out the cartridges more frequently than when the unit actually runs out of ink.
    You might change out the cartridges so you are not coating the insides of the printer with the old ink.
    If you are not going to use the printer very often, it does seem to help to keep it stored in a cabinet: dark and enclosed where there is not an abundance of light, dust, dampness, or temperature differences.  I keep the J6480 in a cabinet on the other side of the house and use it wirelessly about every six months.
    You may have to re-run the cleaning operation a couple of times after you do change the ink; change out the cartridges, test, and then decide.
    Click the Kudos Star!
    It is a nice way to say “Thank You” for the help.
    Although I strive to reflect HP's best practices, I do not work for HP.
    Kind Regards,

  • 10.5.2 Uses 100% CPU for about 10 mins

    Everything was fine on 10.5.1 but 10.5.2 on Windows 7 32bit seems to use 100% CPU (iTunes.exe) for about 10 mins before settling down. I was just about to post 100% CPU when I saw it was back to normal so I closed and reopened it and the same thing has happened. PC has been restarted since it was installed.
    Any idea what is causing this? Can I downgrade - if so, how?
    PS: it's actually using 100% of one core.

    Check out this Apple article -> iTunes 10.5 for Windows: May see performance issues and blank iTunes Store
    If you have one of the LSPs mentioned, you may have to do a winsock reset or remove the conflicting software.

  • Poor audio quality - iTunes uses 100% CPU for 15-20 seconds

    About 6-7 seconds into an MP3, iTunes pegs my CPU to 100%, and the audio lags or shuts off completely. Protected AAC files play without issue. Converting the MP3 to AAC does not help: the audio and CPU give the same results. Winamp, WMP, and *even QuickTime* can play the same MP3 files without issue. It is only MP3s and only iTunes. I have uninstalled my antivirus, but that did not help. I removed all start up applications and closed any program that wasn't essential to the computer's operation. I have even killed non-essential processes. These files have played in in iTunes previously, it has only been in the last few months that I have had a problem. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the latest version of iTunes just this morning. Nothing has helped, and I'm not about to reformat my PC just to see if that will help when these files play just fine in all my other media players.
    So, to recap:
    - Problem is ONLY with MP3s -> M4Ps play fine
    - Problem is ONLY iTunes -> Quicktime, Windows Media Player, and WinAmp play the MP3 just fine
    Ideas?

    I have no idea what is causing this, but iTunes is rather sensitive to ID3 tag versions - the usual symptom is that it will not play the file.
    As an experiment try selecting an MP3 track, then right click and select convert ID3 tags. Convert to "None".
    I would do this on a copy of the file.

  • RH8 hangs with 100% CPU when closing a topic. Resource Manager to blame?

    Please refer to the following thread for background information: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/734972?tstart=0
    I'm re-listing this issue, as it has rasied its ugly head again, and I've no resolution this time.
    Summary:
    The original issue was that RH8 would hang whenever I closed a topic for anywhere between 15-30 seconds before allowing me to interact with the application again. Attempting to interact with the GUI during this freeze would result in the 'Not Responding' message at the upper-left of the application window (suffice it to say I'm on a PC with Windows).
    After much investigation it was suggested to me that my profile may be corrupt, and in order to test this, another user should log on and see whether they experienced the same problem. As it is, they did not. So I had my Systems Admin recreate my domain profile, and everything worked just fine.
    ...until now.
    Last week we all upgraded from Windows XP to Windows 7 (32 bit). We also changed our anti-virus software. The awful hanging issue in RH has returned.
    We've attempted the solution from last time, by recreating my profile on the domain, to no avail. We have in fact gone to the extent of reformatting the hard drive and reinstalling Windows, the anti-virus software and RH8 (plus all available patches) from scratch. In case anyone is wondering, we've tried running RH without the antivirus installed, and when installed have also tried excluding the RH application folder and all my project folders, just in case it was the anti-virus software at fault. Regardless, the RH problem exists.
    I can't understand why I'm now having this problem. Truth be told, I never really understood why recreating my domain profile in the first place resolved the problem last time.
    However, I have now discovered something else...
    In my RH Resource Manager I have a few thousand images in the Image folder. Not much I can do about this - the applications I write Help for have many screens users can access, and I write the Help for half a dozen applications. When I delete the contents of the images folder within the Resources Manager, RH works perfectly - no hanging whatsoever. As soon as I import the images into this folder again, the hanging is back. I have tested this a few times now, and have rebooted and had another user log on to confirm, and it happens every time. I'm dumbfounded of course, particularly because the same set of images has been sitting in the Resource Manager for months (since my original post about this issue, last year), and RH has been working perfectly.
    I've also tried Peter Grainge's suggestion to create an empty BaseCSS_res.dll file (http://www.grainge.org/pages/authoring/rh8/using_rh8.htm), but as I've installed all the RH8 updates, this shouldn't be an issue.
    I've also tried deleting the CPD file without success.
    Thanks in advance.

    It seems this has been resolved!
    Many thanks for all the suggestions. Peter ultimately forwarded the solution - something that he'd sourced from a rep at Adobe, as follows:
    Every file/folder change in the root folder of RH8 Resource Manager triggers a rescan of all the sub-folder/files. That is why in case of thousand image it will take time. Like xxxx said we may ask user for root folder, it should not be project folder or frequently changing folder.
    Probably he is using the default path given in the root folder and RoboHelp changes a temporary css file in that folder very frequently, in fact with every topic close.
    That is causing the slowness and it should be easy to reproduce in the default scenario. This is RH8 only issue.
    So, to fix my issue:
    Open the Resource Manager Pod.
    Click the Add/Edit Categories icon. The Add/Edit Categories window appears.
    Within this window, change the 'Root Folder' path to something other than the default. In my case, I create a new folder on my root hard drive, outside of the Robohelp folder, just to be sure.
    So far this is working perfectly - no 'hanging'. I'll keep an eye on it.
    I love the comment "This is RH8 only issue."
    Oh?! Is it? Was it fixed in a patch, Adobe? Please don't tell me that it was fixed in RH9, because there's no way known I should have to pay for an upgrade to resolve something that certainly looks like a bug. As happy and grateful I am to have this resolved, it has cost me a week's work.
