Audio Blips in transitions, Part VIII ... continuing

Driving me crazy, practically ALL of my transitions have the sound click or blip at the beginning and end of a transition. I've got music on the second track- so all I want is silence - everying set to zero, nevertheless... So, I've deleted the transition, extracted the audio from both sides, added a new transition (between two clips with zero audio... and Viola'!! Sound blips are there again. (and I tried deleting the audio clips... this combo is not working. Here's the apple advice:
(new input WELCOME...thanks)
You hear a pop or gap during a title or transition in iMovie
After applying a title or transition, you may sometimes hear a pop or brief period of silence between the transition and the next clip.
This can happen when using iMovie versions 3, 4, and 5.
If you experience this, try extracting the audio from your video clip to a separate track before applying the title or transition. Follow these steps:
Select the affected clip.
To undo the title or transition you have added: From the Edit menu select Undo, or from the Advanced menu select Restore Clip.
Select the video clip in the timeline.
From the Advanced menu, select Extract audio. The audio for the selected clip will be moved to its own audio track in the timeline.
Add your transition or effect.
This document will be updated as more information becomes available.

I have noticed a lot of users are having problems with the audio noise that sometimes arises when you insert transitions. The Apple workaround is to extract the necessary audio and then uncheck the video sound box in the video/audio timeline viewer as this is where the static is caused.
However, this tends to be annoying if you want to either edit or perhaps add further transitions that cut through video where you have already extracted the audio.
I think another option for iMovie HD 5.02 is a workaround that I had used constantly back in iMovie 3.03. That is to add a title transition (with nothing in it) that floats over the transition where the sound glitch occurs!
For example
1. In iMovie HD 5.02, cut the clip before the sound glitch using command-T.
2. Add a title effect - I tend to use a subtitle as it is usually what I'm working with, but other effects (like centred) work just as well. CLEAR the contents of the title boxes. Make it long enough to cover the audio problems and apply...
3. You will either get a magnificant solution to your problem (which is especially good as it is an undoable feature by pressing backspace after the clip is highlighted) OR you will get one more sound glitch at the end of the title effect. BUT IF YOU REPEAT THIS PROCESS by adding (and you might as well make the effect as long as possible) title effects throughout the whole project, the amazing thing is that when these effects run together - You get no noise!!!!
Ok, you might get noise if you were unfortunate enough to finish the title effect right on a transition and in this case you obviously need to ensure that you don't do this by varying the length of the transition.
IN SHORT....
1. Ignore the problem until you have finished your project.
2. (Worst case) Add long blank title effects starting at the beginning and continue adding them until you reach the end.
An added advantage is that this beats the endless audio extraction that some of you will otherwise have to do to "fix" this annoying problem.
Anyway I hope this works as well for you as it has done so for me.

  • Still Frames causing audio blips

A still clip via Edit - Create Still Frame, when it is played in Timeline, always causes an audio blip as Playhead advances into any next clip in project. I cannot mute this other than by unticking audio box at end of Timeline.
I am using iMovieHD 5.0.2 in G5 iMac.
    Any suggestions?

Hi Graham - I am also using iMovie 5.0.2, but it does not display the problem you describe, so it is not an inherent 'bug' in the app. The placing of a transition can cause this problem, but I assume that is not the cause in your case.
You could try extracting the audio on either side of the still, and see if that has any effect.
Sorry I can't be of more help.

  • Zen Neeon 6gb - audio blips after changeing

hey, i have had my Zen Neeon 6gb since the 24th of June, up untill about two weeks ago i was running Windows ME , the player was working fine, just recentaly i have changed OS to Windows XP professional and now, whenever i copy a song onto my player, it has really annoying audio blips and skips in every single track. Most of the music on my new computer has been copyed off my other useing my player, and it all plays fine, its only when i goto play it on my player.
Please Help, im really annoyed at this
PS: i have tried re-installing drivers and formatting the player, i even have the latest firmware, nothing is working!!!Message Edited by mischala on 2-02-200607:2 PM

I had the same problem. I was using the zen neeon as a mobile dri've (as in, copying stuff over to it through windows explorer). If you use the creative mediasource application to copy music to the player instead, it solves the audio blip problem completely. I hate having to use the software when the dri've is accessible in explorer but at least it isn't as annoying as itunes.

  • IMovie moving audio clips when transitions are added

iMovie moving audio clips when transitions are addedI have some video clips that need simple fades to black added at the end. However, whenever I add the fade out transition, iMovie does something insane. Instead of the last two seconds of video fading to black and the last two seconds of audio fading out, it seems that a random two seconds of audio from elsewhere in the clip is tacked onto the end and faded. This problem is nuts and I am having no luck finding a solution. Does anyone have one? This has happened with other transitions, but I’d settle for just getting a fade to black to work properly. Is this only a problem with Intel machines?

The problem that you describe has come up frequently on this forum. There are lots of things people have tried, but no solution has been found, other than the workaround of extracting the audio, as Klaus 1 mentions, and manually adjusting the fade out. Some feel that it is an intel machine problem, but that is not clear.

  • Recovery project automatically deleting all audio and video transitions

When Premiere crashes, the recovery project has automatically removed all audio and video transitions. This has happened to one project about 3-4 times.. Has anybody seen this or has a solution?

No ... but I'll just kick in here that it is good to have your auto-save set for not too long a time, and not a bad thing to manually save-as to an incremental every so often. It does mean your last couple few minutes of work need to be re-created, but ... that's nothing compared to losing a LOT of work.

  • Random audio seeps into transitions

I am editting video. When I add a transition between two clips, the transition captures audio from an earlier clip and adds it to the transition. Any thoughts?
Also, I tried to brighten an audio clip, when I did that, it played at the beginning, but then all of the audio was gone?

I've had this happen before too, which is one of my reasons for constantly opening iMovie HD (5).
It seems that the audio goes back to the initial video clip's audio. For example, if I import a video clip and crop off the first 15 minutes of it, then later add a transition to part of it, the audio from the beginning of the cropped 15 minutes, thought deleted weeks ago, shows up in my transition.
I have the same problems with video showing up in the "Themes" tab.
I think this has something to do with iMovie using your initially imported clips as refrence files and not deleting them until every single fragment of that file has been removed from your project. In other words, you may have an 18 gigabyte file in your trash, for which you are only using 10 seconds in your project, but iMovie needs the whole 18 minute clip in order to keep working.
I think this messes up transitions because iMovie 6 introduced the "live preview" capibility.
The best way I've found around this happening is exporting each clip to a separate "full quality" quicktime file. So each part you want as a separate clip must be exported as a file. Then you can reimport the individual files and use transitions without problems.

  • Strange Audio Blip

I have some e-learning where we have a little screen with some audio. Then there is a stop on the timeline. The user can click next and get the next screen.
On some of the screens the audio does a little "glitchy beep" at when it gets to the stop. It doesn't seem to happen all the time and there is nothing I can find in common when it does.
The glitchy sound isn't part of the mp3. When played in external players there is no glitch at the end of the file.
The sounds are set to streaming. When tested in the timeline it never makes the sound.
Local testing also doesn't produce the sounds.
When played over the internet is when we hear it. But if we replay that screen it doesn't happen on the second time.
There is a keyframe with the streaming sound. And where the wave form shows the end of the sound we have put another keyframe.
I'm leaning a little bit toward the glitch being the first few milliseconds of the next screens sound. They are all on the main timeline. We have the stop at the end of each screen and then there is an empty frame and then the start of the next screen. And generally there are at least one or two frames before the next audio starts.
But that seems strange that Flash would stop on, say, frame 1353 and then look ahead to 1357 and start the audio there. Doesn't it?
Anybody else have this issue? Found any answers?

Further digging only seems to muddy the waters.
Adding one extra frame before the new audio begins (there were already 3) seems to make the difference. But then that doesn't really explain why it was doing it. And if extra frames are the answer how many will I need?
I did some digging and there seems to be a 46 millisecond delay built into the way AS2 handles sounds. I'm wondering if it is some kind of timing issue that depends upon the framerate, the number of samples in the first sound, processor load, and the sound card. If so I'm going to have a really hard time coming up with a solution...
    Anybody?

  • When listening to audio books after several parts it skips back to part one and starts playing all over.

Why is my iPod nano skipping back to part one after listening to several parts of an audio book.  The book starts all over from the beginning and when I get to the part I stopped on, it will not let me skip to the next part.

Have you tried a simple reset of the iPod to see if that does any good first?  To do this, press and hold both the Select (Center) and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.
It might also hurt to try a full restore of the iPod in iTunes as well.  This process wipes all content from the device, resets all settings back to their defaults, and reloads a fresh copy of the iPod's software onto the device.  This would help eliminate the possibilty of a software issue/glitch and/or data corruption on the iPod.

  • Video loses audio when using transitions

On my band's website, I frequently post videos of us rehearsing or playing at a show. Before I upload the videos, I bring them into iMovie, add a simple fade in and fade out to the beginning and end, and then save them compressed so that they download faster. I've never had a problem with this before.
Today, I tried to work on some new clips. For some reason, the fade ins and fade outs are fading the video correctly, but not the audio. Instead, the audio simply drops out during the length of the transition; it then jumps back in at 100% when the transition is complete.
I turned on "show clip volume levels" in the timeline and the volume on the transition is shown to be fading in gradually, starting at 0% and ending at 100% right before the main clip. That's correct, and that's how it's always looked in the past, except now when I play it back, the actual volume stays at 0% during the transition.
I've tried everything I could think of to fix this, with no luck. I tried importing the video separately instead of pulling it out of my iPhoto library, changing the length of the transition, using a different video file, using different transitions, etc. Nothing works. Furthermore, the problem sticks when I export the video to QuickTime, so it's not an issue just with previewing the video in iMovie. It's also persisted even after quitting and relaunching iMovie, and rebooting the computer entirely.
The only way I've been able to get around it is by selecting the video, extracting the audio, and then manually fading the audio in/out so that it matches the length of the video fade in/out. While this works, it's more work, takes more time, isn't as precise since I have to manually do it, and is totally unnecessary! The transitions are supposed to automatically apply to both the video AND its audio!
Any ideas? Please help - I have a iMovie project due on Monday and I will need to use these effects!

    Hi daGUY:

That's the right thing to do in this case (as you found out). But, it may be that this is a one time problem and the next video will work fine...

  • How to apply audio and video transitions automatically when drop multiple clips to timeline?

If I remember OK, in previos versions of Premiere it was possible to Drag multiple Clips from project area to timeline, and apply automatically audio/video transitions.
It was possible to configure how many video frames will be overlapped to do a default transitions (and for audio, also).
Is it possible in Premiere CS6 to do the same thing ?  Leave me a link to documentation, or a hint, how to get this thing done.
I have searched over the documentation, but i have not found.
    Thanks for hints.

I believe the feature you're referring to is Automate to Sequence. In CS6, it was in the Project Menu; for those using CC, it is in the Clip Menu.

  • Adjusting audio levels for selected parts of clips

1.) How can I select a portion of audio in the Viewer and adjust just that portion's auudio using the Level option?
2.) What is the easiest way to remove parts of audio while someone is speaking and says a quick "ugh" or emits a breath sound?
    Thanks!

the problem with removing offending sounds is that you will usually notice the drop out of room tone. In this case, find a clean piece of audio and use that to replace the offensive sound.
This is VERY easy to do in soundtrack pro.
If you are intimidated by the pen tool, you can blade the clip in the timeline and adjust levels on individual sections and add dissolves to make the adjustment gradual.
There are many ways to skin this cat including real time "automation."

  • Audio glitch when transitions added

    Hello,
When I add transitions such as cross dissolve or fade out, there is a split second of audio noise between the clips and the transitions, even with the audio level turned down to zero.
I tried to fix this by extracting the audio from the clips where I wanted it and turning off the embedded audio track, but this seemed to make the whole file too large for imovie to handle! The movie is about an hour and twenty minutes, and I really don't want to shorten it if I don't have to because it's somebody's wedding and reception.
Any help anyone can offer is greatly appreciated!
    Thanks

I tried extracting the audio, and it was working fine, but it seems like the program could only handle so much extracted audio, because the more clips I did this to, the slower the program would run, and this problem was corrected when I deleted the extracted audio tracks.
    Any suggestions?
    I'm stumped!
    Thanks.

  • Audio effects and transitions reference

This question was posted in response to the following article: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/premierepro/cs/using/WS2CFD24BB-0B2B-4059-8098-D36F5EBED240.ht ml

    The help file says:
    "Exponential Fade transition
Exponential Fade fades out the first clip over a smooth logarithmic curve while fading up the second clip, also over a smooth logarithmic curve."
    Three comments:
    1) The description is nearly identical to the Constant Power transition description.
    2) When Iistening to the Exponential Fade transition, the audio drops to near silence at the edit point. Then climbs back up. Sort of like a Dip to Black video transition.
    3) The thumbnail in the Effect Controls Panel shows a Constant Gain transition.

  • Audio with video transitions?

Is it possible to include audio when using selfmade video transitions on buttons?

    Welcome to the boards
No real way to add audio if you are using transitions in buttons (i.e., meaning you are using inspector to set a transition for a button in the inspector, including a transition you add there). Buttons over video can sort of do it, but there will be a gap in the audio. If there is silence in the menu (using BOV) and you jump to a section of the track for the transition, audio can be there. (In the transition section) and you will not hear a change, since going from silence to sound, but when moving around the DVD goes to different sections and there will be a pause.
