Audio book chapters won't sort in order

I'm downloading a book and either in audio book format or as music, I cannot get the chapters to sort in order on my iPod. They sort in order in iTunes, but when I download them to the iPod, they come in reverse order. That really doesn't do it for me when I'm driving and listening!

  • Playing Imported Audio Books - tracks won't play in order - why?

I import a lot of Audio Book CDs into my iPod Touch for convenience.
The problem is that although the tracks import in order, are correctly named and play in order from iTunes on the PC they almost never play in order on my IPod Touch, Ipod Classic or iPhone.
The Ipod just seems to shuffle playing order. I have disabled shuffle. The iPod is not automatically shuffling due to shaking.
How do I get the tracks to play in the correct orderr.

Here are some hints and guidelines for labeling and organizing audiobooks in iTunes.
Click on the first file of the audiobook imported files list. Press and hold down the “Shift” key while doing so. While you continue to hold this key down, press the down arrow on your keyboard repeatedly until all of the files (chapters) for the first audiobook are selected. At the last file of the first audiobook, click your left mouse button once. You will see all the files from the first to last file highlighted.
Go back into the “File” menu on iTunes and click on “Get Info.” This will bring up a menu of settings you can apply to the highlighted files. Click on the “Options” tab in the settings menu that appears. Make sure the media type is selected as “audiobook.” Next to “Remember position” the option of “Yes” should be indicated.
Next you’ll want to properly label the audiobook audio files. Click on the “Info” tab and fill out relevant information you want to include on the filenames for easy access. Under “album name” put the name of the book and under “artist name” put the name of the author.
Save the settings. Click on “Audiobooks” in the long left hand side menu in iTunes. This should be in the upper left hand area. You will see a list of your newly renamed audiobook files to the right hand side.
Right click on each file individually starting with the first file of the audiobook. Click “Get Info” and under the “Name” section enter “Chapter 01” and repeat this process for each track going in order changing the chapter number by one number higher each time. Chapters 1 through 9 must have a zero before the primary number such as Chapter 01 and Chapter 09.
When you are finished the audiobook will not only be in the proper track order which allows you to play the chapters in order, but the audiobook will be labeled and easy to find.

  • Since I've updated to iOS 6 I am unable to use the next/back buttons from Headphone for audio book chapters.

Since I've updated from iOS 5 to iOS 6 I am unable to use the next/back buttons from Headphone for audio book chapters.
This is working fine for albums but are broken for audio books.
The back button refers always to the first chapter of the audio book (very annoying if you are in the middle of an audio book) and the nex button goes one level higher back to the selection of the audio book itself.
In iOS 5.0 it was still possible to navigate throught the audio book chapters using these buttons.
This still happens in iOS 6.1.
    Is this a known bug?
    Does any solution exist?
    Thx,
    Oliver

To gdgmacguy your a f****** idiot for one I'm having the same problem as pennymar. And you tell me to quit whinning. You got more problems then the iOS 6 you did not answer my question nor the other 13 or whatever you replied to within a 30 min time frame. You must got nothing better to do then to harass people and to pretend you know something about apple products. Which you don't from what I've read the other advices you should have gave to other people. But you didn't you replied a question back to the people asking a question. So if your not gonna use these community forums the right way don't use them at all.

  • Audio book chapters out of order.

I have been having this issue for years with no resolve. I import audio books into itunes, and they are in order.  I then move them to my ipod and they are out of order. ANY HELP?? PLEASE? I see people have posted this problem all over for years but I see no resolution.

I had the same problem as you and what was causing it was that the sort fields were not the same for each track.  So the tracks that had the same info in their sort fields were grouped together when they transferred to my iphone.
I know that might not make things clear.  Here's what you can do to fix it.
In itunes, select all the tracks of the audiobook, then hit Command-I to open up the Get Info/Multiple Item Information window.
There should be four tabs: Info, Video, Sorting, Options.  Click on the Info tab first.  Any fields that are empty are either fields that were never entered when you burned the disc OR they could be fields that are not the same for each track.  If it's the latter, that will be a big problem.  The only fields you want different between tracks are the "Disc ___ of X" and "Track ___ of X" fields.  The fix here is to put in something into each field.  But don't hit "OK" yet.
Next click on the Sorting tab and fill in something for each field because any differences here will also cause you headaches when you tranfer over to the ipod. So fill in information in each field.  Now hit okay.
If you've done it right, the software will be forced to look at the "Disc ___ of X" field when transferring the files over to your ipod and the tracks will be in the right order.

  • Missing Audio Book Chapters

Can anyone tell me where the chapters went for the audio books in the Music App on mt iPad?  Works fine on my iPhone 4s.
When listening to a book and I select what appears to be the book (looking for chapters) I get a list of all the books in the category, not the chapters.

Log into your Itune account.  Go to purchase history which shows all of your purchase date and order number and what you bought.  Send itune cusomer service to ask them to restore those particular order numbers for audio books.  They will restore those for you to download again. Audiobook has tendacied not to be shown on iTune as I have no problem for other song and movie purchases.

  • Audio book chapters mixed up

On my iTouch my current audio book shows 9 chapters with really odd track times like 23 min 17 min etc The book is many hours long.
On iTunes it says 5 chapters
To top that the book has many chapters as I'm on 51 now.
nothing matches at all. If I forget my spot when I go back the numbers on the iTouch it makes no sense. It will be chapter 35 the iTouch will say it is the second of five, but it shows 9 tracks and the first two only add up to 30 minutes
There is no way to tell where you are, if you change apps.

Thank you for taking the time and trouble to reply, Santo!
I tried your suggestion, but it didn't seem to help, but then I noticed something that I hadn't noticed before. Half of the discs were titled "Disc XXX" and the other half were titled "Disk XXX". (Notice the spelling of "Disc" vs. "Disk".) Once I made the spelling uniform, everything was fine.
    Thanks again!

  • Audio book chapters play randomly though shuffle is set to off

I have turned off the 'shuffle' option in the Music section, but my audio book(s) still play chapters in a random mode.  From intro and chapter 1 to chapter 18 or 22.  Also the reset procedure seems not to work.  I wanted to try this to see if it would re-set the chapter issue, but I don't seem to be able to hold the wake/sleep touch and press the sound down button for 6 seconds as described in the manual.  Any ideas?

  • Audio books (Chapters Missing)

    I have an iPhone 5s, IOS 7.1.
In previous versions, I was able to go directly to a chapter in my audio book (I converted my CDROMS).
In IOS 7 and 7.1, I can no longer see the individual chapters. I only see entire book which you cannot easily move to different parts of the book. The scrubber is not that easy to move to a certain section of the book.
Is showing Chapters no longer an option or is it an option I cannot locate?
Were there changes in the operating system that I need to convert all my books again so  I can see the chapters?

Copy them from the old computer, along with all your other content so that you don't waste bandwidth downloading it.

  • Moving forward and backward in audio book chapters on M

I have a MuVo TX FM and I can't figure out how to move back and forth between chapters in a audio book. The chapter numbers are shown on the display. How can I skip chapters or go back?

THere are two ways to ff/rw within a track... see if one works better than the other.
    While the track is playing, you can either;
    A) press and hold the rw/ff button.
    or
    B) Press the select (center) button once. This will bring up the track's progress bar. From here you can move around within the track by using the touch wheel (just like you're adjusting the volume). I find this to be more accurate when trying to find a specific location.
    Good luck.
    Cheers!

  • Zen 2gb and audio book chapters and bookma

    Hello,
Right now I have a Zen Stone which I use mainly to download audio books and which I have outgrown. It was a good, cheap starter mp3, but now I want something better. (The tech upgrade?bug strikes again, I guess.) The main peeeve I have with the Zen Stone is that I cannot bookmark where I stopped in a book's chapter. Books download in sections whcih contain more that one actual chapte, so, when I have to recharge the battery, the Stone restarts at the last section, not where I quit to recharge. Thus, I have to re-listen to old material. Also, since there is no screen, I can't see where and what section/chapter I am anyway.
Will a better model Zen allow me to save and bookmark where I am in a book so that i can restart anywhere without going back over old material? Will I be able to see sections nad chapter headings (section 4, chapter6, e.g.) on the screen.
Any help appreciated. I am fairly new to mp3-land, but not to computers. Thanks

I can tell you that the Zen 2gb is not as great with audio books as it ought to be.
Audible?format audio books have chapter markings that the Zen can see. Overdri've?Media files?do not.
Yes, you can bookmark. However, when you go to the bookmark, the player does not remember that the bookmarked file was part of a playlist. Therefore, it loads only the one file and stops playing when it gets to the end. At that point you have to go back through the main menu to reload your playlist.
The "resume" function would make the bookmark problem less annoying, if it worked properly. The player will remember where you stopped and begin there the next time you turn the player on, unless you wait more than 2 hours. In that case, it starts at the beginning of the track and you have to FF till you find your place (hopefully you remembered to note the timer position before shutting down). This is the method I've settled on, because although I have to FF to my place every morning and evening, at least I don't have to keep reloading playlist.
Interestingly, although you can't bookmark videos on the Zen, you don't need to, because it remembers where you left off playing it no matter how long you wait, and even after synching.

  • How to Organize Many Audio Book Chapters?

I'd love pointers to tutorials or tips regarding how to organize audiobooks. I ripped an audiobook that resulted in 60 different chapter files. My itunes is a wreck because of all the small files.
Is there a way to group them to one file and not have them clutter up the main list of audio book files?
Is there a way to put all those little files into a playlist and not have them show is the main list of audiobook files?
    Thanks

  • Podcast Chopin Manuscript won't sort in order

I purchased the podcast of The Chopin Manuscript. It is a book in which each chapter is written by a different author. How can I get it to sort in the proper order? at the end of each chapter/podcast I have to stop my iPod and find the correct chapter and go on from there, repeating the process each time I reach the end of a chapter. This is not a problem with other book purchases I have made.

Try setting them order by track in iTunes, and then re-sycning the Touch.
That' usually does it for me.
ALSO, make sure that shuffle is OFF.
Hit the album once while it's playing to get the scrubber on the screen.
To the left and right are two icons - one for shuffle, and one for repeat.
    If they're white, they're off.
If they're blue, they're active and likely contributing to this issue...

  • Reorganizing audio book chapters

I uploaded an audiobook that had 13 chapters. Somehow iTunes has reorganized the chapters to be in the following order: 1,10,11,12,13,2,3,4,5,etc. How do I get them back in the proper order? Thx for your time and assistance.

If all these tracks have the exact-same Artist (author of book) and Album (title of book), then the sequence will be governed by the Track Number boxes. Rightclick the first file, and choose Get Info. Enter a "1" in the first Track Number box, then click the Next button at the bottom of the window. Continue entering numbers and clicking Next until all the tracks are numbered. This should do the trick.
The Track Number logic is not perfect. Heaven knows there are hundreds of posts here about people perfectly filling out all fields and iTunes still puts things in the wrong order.

  • Incomplete book message won't let me order 2nd copy of iPhoto book

I have been trying to BUY a 2nd copy of a 90 pg photo book but message says it is INCOMPLETE & I must "drag a photo to place in background" which I already completed perfectly for the 1st book (and received it).
I have redone the pages in question over & over but nothing is accepted...what could be problem?  Don't want to spend another month starting a new book over again.

    what ever
It would be a lot easier to go though each page of the book and verify tha tthe page background is a color rahter that a missing photo - what you do is up to you
Well that indicates that there is a photo missing
have you deleted any photos from iPhoto or tided up your disk since you ordered?
Go thorough the book carefully and verify that all photo frames are filled in - the most common cause of this error- is a page background out requiring a photo with the missing photo hidden behind a layout that includes photos that are there
