Audio book loses (forgets) position

i  have been listening to audio books using the default music app, in itunes i set it as an audio book, to not  include it in shuffle, that it is a compilation and to remember where i  left off.
But if i don't go crazy closing apps after i use them (being very careful not to close music app) my iphone runs out of memory and completely forgets that it was even  playing anything, it is very frustrating trying to refind my position all the time.

This gets anoying very very quickly. It seems the player remembers some random point in the book and always resets to it.

  • IPhone does not remember song or track or position in playlist or audio book

I am hoping Apple will fix a problem with Ios7.0.x where iPhone does not remember song or track or position in playlist or audio book.  It worked fine with ios6.x

    Hello SashMir,
After reviewing your post, I have located an article that can help in this situation. It contains steps to complete a restore on your device. You may want to consider a restore then setting up as "new," to alleviate the issues you've described:

  • How do you make an iPod remember your AUDIO BOOK position?

With podcasts or audio books from Audible.com, my iPod remembers the position in the audio file, so that if you listen to some music and then go back to the podcast or audio book, it resumes where you left off.
I can't figure out for the life of me, how to make audio books that I load from my own CDs do the same. I've been transferring my books-on-CD onto my iPod, but its useless if I can't figure out how to make the iPod remember my position in the book. I'm not going to carry a note pad and pencil around with me
Am I missing an obvious check-box somewhere, or is this just an impossible task due to the horrible design of iTunes?

Rohan: You must use iTunes 5 and the 2005-06-26 firmware (or the 2005-09-?? for the Nano).
Get Info on an individual MP3 you want to make bookmarkable. Select the Options tab and check the box for Remember Last Played Position. I'd recommend also checking the box for Skip when Shuffling so the book won't be played when using the Shuffle Songs menu from the main menu.
Unfortunately there isn't a way to do this with multiple files at once, yet.
Like previously mentioned, they will not be set as Audiobooks but normal Mp3s.

  • Play position in audible audio books not syncing back from iPhone to iTunes

Hi everybody. I hope I don't open a redundant thread, but i couldn't find one that has this topic.
Anyway, I am syncing some audio books from audible to my iPhone. When i start playing them on the phone, the play position is in sync to the position in iTunes. Now let's say i listen one hour on the phone and then sync again.
Contrary to what i expected, the further advanced play position from the phone is NOT synced back to iTunes but the old position from iTunes is synced again to the phone. So the next time I access the audio book on the phone I start where i started in the first place.
Is this a bug or have I missed some setting wheresoever?
    Thanks for any suggestions!

I have seen others complain about it. For me I never listen via PC (only phone) so I haven't had an issue yet. Though I do when I stop listening look at the time and chapter/file I am at and go over to Notes and jot it down. Due to reboots or other issues, it has lost where I was but with my notes, I can quickly get back.

  • Marker for Audio books in iTunes

    Hi,
When you buy an audio book from iTunes Store you always get it as long audio file. 8 or 10 h. If you, in iTunes, could create a marker of some sort (as in iBooks). I have repeatedly lose track on where I was the last time. This would make listening to audio books on your products much easier. Because now it's not worth it, I think.

Just tag it to remember position in Get Info

  • Bookmark audio book from MediaSource

Hi all,?I play long (5-7 hour) audio book files via my Zen V plus (ver. ..0). I use bookmarks successfully, but once in a while I forget to set one or the player locks up and I lose my place. Fastforwarding on the Zen is a pain. But doing it in MediaSource 5 (ver. 5.0.25) is relati'vely easy. Does anyone know of a way to bookmark from within MediaSource? I tried pausing and then disconnecting the Zen from my PC, but when I do that the file reverts back to the beginning. Any help is appreciated. Thanks,?Matt

iTunes audiobooks are tied up with DRM. They can only be played in iTunes or on Apple devices.

  • Bookmarking audio books downloaded from CDs

I'm asking this question on the behalf of my cousin . . . don't know which iPod she has or what Windows OS she's using. Can't find a related subject. Can anyone help?

I think I know what you mean. I have run across one major issue when importing books from CDs, and that is bookmarking. Specifically, how to save your place in a multi-track playlist (such as a CD imported book).
    1. It is easy to make TRACKS bookmarkable... here is a script to do that as a batch.
    http://www.dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/scripts07.php?page=3#makebookmarkable
The problem is, audio books imported from CDs are multiple tracks... and end up, not as single tracks, but as playlists.
    2. Apple has failed to make a PLAYLIST bookmarkable, and you will have to remember what track number you are on in the book. The TRACKS are bookmarkable, the PLAYLIST is not. So, if ever you want to leave and return to the book, it will remember where you are inside a given track, but it will forget WHICH track you are on in the book. Silly, but true.
    3. Ask Apple to create a "Save my place in this playlist" feature. Or maybe a "treat this playlist as a single audiobook" feature.
It is an oversight that may be easy to correct. Maybe they just haven't thought it through.
I drive my kids to school listening to Harry Potter. But when I get there, I want to save my place (in both playlist and track) and listen to my music. Then, when I pick them up, I want to resume from the place (both playlist and track) that I left off. Currently this requires my feeble brain to remember which of the 170 tracks I was on. I should not have to remember, iPod is more qualified than I am at this task.
Hey, Apple... Howzabout 3 "memories" which hold the position (in playlist and track). That would be a big enhancement to my daily iPod use.
Another enhancement would be to make a track "unshuffleable." I like my music shuffled, but it's disaster for my books. I got tired of going to settings after each school run, and turned shuffle off - since when it is on for music, it is on for books as well. Maybe, in addition to being bookmarkable, a playlist could be unshuffleable! Just another thought from someone who uses his iPod daily to listen to both music and books.

  • Audio book bookmarks will be deleted if the iPod touch connects to iTunes

    Hello everybody,
since I updated my iPod touch to OS version 3.0 the bookmarks of my audio books will be deleted if I connect the player to iTunes.
It´s really very annoying because it isn´t easy to find the location on the audio book I stopped before. So I have to write down the chapter information before connecting to iTunes. In some cases I forget it and I must begin to search. Even everybody who hears audio books knows that this is difficult and mostly you hear a passage ones more.
I have searched for a feature like it but I can´t find a function in iTunes which controlls this behavior.
I will be very grateful if there ist anybody who helps me. I have wrote this problem in some german forums but without any success. It seems that I am the one and only person with this problem.
Please excuse if there are any "language-bugs" - I am a german guy.
    Thanks for help!

You will only lose your iCloud data, That includes iCloud backup, iCloud Contacts and Calendar, Reminders, Notes, everything listed in Settings>iCloud

  • Audio Books on the iPad

I have yet been able to finish an audio book on my iPad2 without it being reset back to the start of it.  Is there a known issue here or maybe a bookmark feature I'm missing?
I listen to them using the "Music" app.
    Thanks

I have seen this issue in the past on other iPods however it has been working fine on my iPad 3. Either the Music app starts to malfunction or crashes losing all playback data for that session. One work around that worked on iPods was to play a song when you are done listening to the audiobook. You don't have to play the whole thing, just start it then pause it. This forces the Music app to record the playback position to more permanent memory where it is not susceptible to lose.
I found the Music app on the iPad is lacking features and just seems un-finished. Hopefully it sees some major updates in the next releases of iOS.

  • My audio books that were bought through Itunes on my Iphone do not show up on my Itunes account.

I bought audio books on my iphone, but they do not show up on my itunes account on my computer.  The books I purchased through the computer show up on my itunes account.  My phone is at it's max and I need to remove these books, but do not want to lose them.  Thank you for your assistance.

This isn't completely coherent so I am not sure what is wrong other than some (al?) of your tracks have broken links.
If you are browsing through iTunes you are not looking at files you are looking at data entries that point to files, with those locations being incorrect right now.
There isn't a file called iTunes media, there is a folder that should be in your iTunes folder called that.
You mention something about external drives. I presume one is for your Time Machine backup but is the other one used for iTunes?  If so, what do you keep there?

If it's an Audiobook, then it's probably in the Audiobook section of your iPhone. Have you set your iTunes to Sync Audiobooks with your iPhone?
Alternatively, if the Audiobook was imported into your iTunes Library as as Music, then it's going to be in the Music section of your iPhone. If so, then it will be in the Music section of your iTunes Library. To move it to the Audiobooks section, select it in the Library and choose File/Get Info/Options>Media Kind where you can change it.
You can change it to a Podcast, but since something is only a Podcast if it is delivered to your iTunes as a Podcast download (which is a process for delivering files without you having to go and find them), then your audiobook is not a Podcast and you may forget (in the future) how you obtained the book in the first place

  • Audio Books

This program is useless when it comes to audio books. I have been attempting to rip books to it for over a year with no success. It always seems to lose a track on every CD. If the **** program hadn't automatically imported every MP3 on my computer it would be easier to track the lost track. I have the music organized where I can find it in Media player. The lack of organization ability in iTunes makes it hard to find a track from a book. Then getting all the cds to fall in one place. I give up. It appears this is designed for music only and if I want to listen to music will use the system at home a turntable or CD player. This has turned into wasted money as the software won't do what I bought the player to do.

Just sort your library by date added.
The last thing you added would be first on the list.

  • Audio Books Not Resuming / Ipod locks if exit Music after 2.2.1 Upgrade

    Hello,
I have a 1G 16GB Ipod Touch, and have been running 1.1.4 for the past year until about a week ago when I took the plunge and upgraded to 2.2.1. I thought all went well, but have been experiencing multiple problems as my use of the Ipod expands.
I subscribe to Audible and listen to long audio books on my drive to work. In 1.1.4 I was able to pause the books, go off and do other things, and come back to resume where I left off. This feature no longer works correctly for me after the 2.2.1 upgrade.
After pausing an audio book, I am able to resume playback where I left off if I stay within the Music application (even playing other songs or books). However, if I exit the Music application back to the Main Menu, the Ipod locks for about 30 seconds before I can start another app, lock, or go back into music. If music is playing when I go back to the Main Menu, it will continue during this time the Ipod is locked and then stop. If no music is playing, the Ipod still locks, so it doesn't matter if music is playing or not.
After the Ipod becomes responsive again, I can go back into Music, but I find that all my audio books have reverted back to the bookmarks that existed a week ago when I did the upgrade. For example, I was on Chapter 6 of a book when I did the upgrade, listened up to Chapter 10 and paused. I exited the Music, came back in, and it reverted to the exact second in Chapter 6 where the bookmark was placed before the upgrade. I have tried multiple experiments with this, and it's always the same result. I upgraded to 2.2.1 to use Apps, so it stinks that I can't leave Music...ever.
Is there anything that I can do to fix this issue or am I going to be forced to downgrade back to 1.1.4?
    Thank you very much!

Well, I managed to fix the problem thru sheer brute force so I figured I would at least pass along what I did in case someone else has this issue. Evidently, doing an in-place upgrade does not work so as a last resort I used "Restore", cleared the Ipod, reloaded everything back on and the playback positions are now working again in music and video. Something screwy must have happened during the upgrade and just needed to start over. Still trying to reload everything (they REALLY need a mass backup feature for photos/music/videos) but looks like it will work.

  • Help with audio books on CDs please

Please be gentle, I'm totally new to the ipod phenomenon and itunes etc.
Just got a new ipod touch and want to put my previously purchased Harry Potter audio cd's on to it to listen to. Trouble is when I do that it classes them as music rather than putting them in the audio book section of the ipod. Now it's not a huge problem but it really is quite irritating. I object to paying the extortionate rate on itunes for something I've already got so don't want to download them again.
Is there a way of changing the way itunes recognises my cds to class it as an audio book and if so is there a way of combining the 7+ cd's for each book together so that it becomes just 1 book rather than having them as seperate cd's called the same thing? (hope I'm making sense here!)
If anyone can help I'd be very grateful.

Take another look. The Aldoblog isn't really complicated. The summary of items to note
    - You can reduce your file size by going to preferences/advanced/import and changing to 32kps (more details in the blog). Not necessary, but will save you lots of space.
    - You want to joint the cd tracks to limit the number of files. Highlight all the tracks, and select join tracks from the advanced menu. You do this each time you import a disk, and end up with one track for each CD.
    - Once you've got all your disks read in, then select the tracks to get info (you can right click). Under options, select "remember playback position". That way when you only have to remember which disk you last played.
I create a playlist for each audio book.
