Audio book plays on PC but not on my iPod

I've downloaded a lot of audio books to my 20g Photo iPod and all have played without a problem, until today. My latest download will play on my desktop computer, but on the iPod when I select the book the iPod sequences through the segments 1,2,3, and 4 then returns to "music". I deleted the first download from the iPod and redownloaded it from iTunes and it still will not play on the iPod. Any ideas.

You might check that the entire file has been copied to your ipod. You can get the size of the audio file by
1) Select your ipod from the "devices" list in itunes.
2) Tick the "manually manage music" check box in the summary tab.
3) Find the audiobook file on your ipod and right click or control click depending on whether you are using windows or mac.
4) Check the size of the file and compare with the size in itunes.
Should you find anything odd perhaps copy across manually, though I think it unlikely that you will.
Alternatively, I have found that if I record audio as a series of shorter files and tag them as "books and spoken" in itunes they end up as "audiobooks". These files are all numbered sequentially but for some reason will not play sequentially on my ipod unless I create a playlist. However the first file will play without doing that. This appears different to your situation but you might want to try creating a playlist with your audiobook files.

Some car stereos can't handle anything other than commercially pressed CDs. I find that burned CDs have a limited playable lifespan for my car and have been told by my dealership that the stereo is not rated to play CD-R discs (but that hasn't stopped me). There's something about the fact that home burned CDs are dye-based whereas commercially burned CDs have more of a metal layer abalated write done that makes them more reliable to read.
You might have to look into replacing your stereo with one that can handle CD-Rs. Crutchfield is a good place to research them and the included install kits are great.

Menu audio will play during preview but not when disc is burned.

Menu music plays fine in preview. I know that the file is good. No menu audio after disc is burned. Have tried several different transcoding options. There is menu video too that is working fine.

Here are notes I couldn't find before I posted that; just general re testing methods:
Mounting an iso (or building to a folder) is a great way to test. There are some differences, but it is a great method prior to burning to a disk. The main difference is simply computer vs dvd player - autoactivate on a button doesn't work with a mouseover, and you can be fooled into thinking your navigation does, or does not, work. (Even on the computer, don't use the mouse for testing, use the "remote" in the player controls.)
Encore preview is an emulator, like computer DVD players, that attempts to predict what will happen when a disk is played on a set top DVD player. It has always had issues with some predictions not being accurate. Some inaccuracies are like this one: Encore preview does not work, and a burned disk will. Others are the opposite; it works in Encore preview, and not in a DVD player. The point to be made here is that you cannot rely on Encore preview. You also cannot rely on computer playback of a built image or folder. And, in the end, you cannot rely on playback on one DVD player - some disks work on some players and not on others.

No, I've been told that it may be a crossdomain policy file issue.. since a device would be like running an app local on your computer... so to snag data that is online.. in this case a stream... the streaming server may need a crossdomain policy file allowing connection from '*'. I was going to try it but when i upgraded to the trial of the actual 4.5 release, it broke my code so I have to fix that first :-/

I got a video from iStore and it will play in iTunes but not on my iPod

One of the videos i purchased back in Feb 2006 (TV show) was wiped from the purchased list with the iTunes 7 update and no longer shows up in any of the playlists anywhere on my iPod. I can play it in iTunes on my computer, but no matter what changes I tried, it won't update it to my iPod again.
Other videos, such as smaller clips, that I purchased around the same time are still there and playable, as well as tv shows I have bought since. I still have a copy of the receipt for this video in my inbox. What can I try to do to get my iPod to recognize the file again?

ITunes purchased song plays in iTunes but not on iPod

I have purchased several songs from the music store. One of the songs will play in iTunes but not on my iPod. I've removed the song several times from the iPod and resynced with iTunes, but the song still cuts out in the middle of the song. What should I do?

If it's just a problem with that song, I would contact the customer service who may authorize another download.

like my subject line states, i transferred a whole bunch of music videos off of dvd into mp4 format using videora.
they play in itunes but not on my ipod.
i transferred about 400 or so at the same time to ipod do you think that's why most of them won't play ?
should i do it one by one ?

it's more than just the mp4 format. They need to be encoded correctly with the right dimensions and other attributes as well. I don't bother with this sort of thing right now. If there is anyone who has these specs, just post them here. Otherwise, you can always google them or search these boards for the proper format/size/encoding.

Did you copy your actual iTunes content from your computer before reinstalling iTunes, or did you just copy your iTunes library which only contains the pointers to your songs / books locations ?
You might, depending upon your country and if they are still in your country's store, be able to redownload your music purchases and your ibooks via the Purchased link under Quick Links on the right-hand side of the iTunes store homepage - you will need to delete the entries from your library (where you are getting the 'unable to locate' messages) before they will potentially show with the cloud icon against them in Purchased for redownloading.
Or copy them from your backup of your downloads/library and add them to your iTunes library via File > Add To Library

Audiobooks purchased from Audible.com. They play on iTunes on my computer. They have been playing on my iPod Classic until two days ago. I'm in the middle of two books and now one does not keep track of where I am and the other does not play. I also have other books not playing on the iPod that use to play. They all play on iTunes on my computer.

Those videos are probably not in an iPod-friendly format. It’s picky about that. You can try converting them, if possible.
As for the audiobooks, are you sure they haven’t synced? You’ve enabled it to sync books and checked the “Audiobooks” section of your iPod?

I could not find an option to "report a problem".
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the item that is not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the entry, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" link next to the item.
(Not entirely sure what happens after you click that link, but fingers crossed it should be relatively straightforward.)

Go to Options>Applications tab > search MPEG Layer 3 audio(audio/mpeg) > use "Save File" option on drop down menu.

Wma audio book plays too fast

I downloaded an audio book from the library, changed the speed to podcast, and the book still plays fast on my phone. It plays normal speed in itunes.

I have the same problem with an iPhone 4 OS version 5.1.1
Following advice on another site I restored the factory setting, re-loaded everythin and STILL the audio books purchased from iTunes play at high speed.
On my iPod touch the audio books play at the correct speed
On the computer using iTunes they also play at the correct speed.
Until there is a solution for thisissue I will not be buying any more audio books from iTunes.
I hope that the good people at Apple support can give advice.
