Audio book sorting problem

Hi,
whilst everything looks just right within iTunes, my Nano (3rd gen.) won't show the books, then chapters.
The Nano will only show all chapters of all books sorted alphabetically.
Any ideas ?
Thanks in advance,
Barb

I am having the same problem. Have you found a solution yet?
So I have a problem with audio book sorting. ui figured out how to get the audio books designated as audiobooks. However There are about 6 cd's on this particular book. I can sort the tracks via name and they list correctly chapter 1a,1b etc. However when I load it onto my ipod touch they are out of order. I noticed that itunes wants to sort by track which for each cd are labeled 1-12 then on cd 2 1-12 and so on. How can I overwrite or edit the track number order so they are always in order? Currently the track number will not let me edit it.
Thanks

  • Audio Book Sync Problem

I'm trying to free up some space on my iTouch 32g. I have a number of Audio Books in my library and on my iTouch. If I uncheck all but one of the books in my iTunes library, I would expect after syncing to only have that one book on my iTouch. The problem is that when I check all of the books in the library are still on the iTouch. How can I have only the one book that I want, without deleting the other books from the iTunes library?

Don't know if it works the same as the iPod but for me, I'm on manual sync. When I attach my iPod to my computer I can hi-lite the books I want deleted and then right-click and hit delete. After I've disonnected my iPod the books are still in my library on my computer. If I choose I can delete any of the ones I want. If it's like the iPod once you're Pod is connected you can click on each Tab and either check off "auto sync" or "manual sync". So hopefully the iTouch works similar to the iPod.

  • Audio book downloading problem

When I attempt to download an audio book, itunes downloads forever with no progress. It works fine with music, just the books. I can't seem to figure out why. It was fine, I have downloaded several audio books previously, and music since, but now have two books waiting that will not download. Any suggestions?

Temporarily disable your firewall and ALL of your antivirus/antispyware software then try again.

  • Audio books snyc problem

I am trying to put some OTR programs on my mini.  One of the programs is in five fifteen minute episodes and when it syncs the episodes get arranged apart. I am a noob and tried for an hour to fix it with no luck.  Please help.

You can basically do what you like with labels in a Get Info window.  You will find labels letting you arrange, for example, by album, disc number, track number on disc, etc.  You could, if you wanted to, re-set the labeling so all 6 discs appeared as one giant disc, although then you would have to re-do the track numbering to avoid duplication.
I believe if you check on the Dougscripts website there is a script to join tracks together if you are wanting to make one single file out of many small files vs. just stringing them together.

  • I took my iPad back to factory settings as I was having problems. Now sorted but I cannot find my audio books in iTunes anymore. Help!!!

I took my iPad back to factory settings through my PC. Everything was recovered except my  audio books bought through iTunes. How can I retrieve them?

When you reset, they were wiped out as well. Will need to redownload. Check the Purchased section where they should be found to download without any additional cost.

  • ITunes 10 Sorting Audio Books

So I have a problem with sorting my audio books. I have the Harry Potter books on cd and have downloaded them to iTunes. But since the book is on multiple CDs when I click on the Books button I either see every single CD or the by Author. When they books are sorted by Author they books are put in ABC order even if the books in the series don't go in that order. How do I fix it so my Books are all together in the correct order and together?

There are two ways you can go. The simplest route, as the article turingtest2 points to describes, is to create playlists for each of your books, and simply handle the tracks manually.
But, if you want to take advantage of various iTunes features, like cover flow, grid view, list view with the book artwork showing, etc., you'll need to do a little more work, to get iTunes to properly group and order all of the tracks together.
First, the Album field must be exactly the same for all tracks in a given book. Capitalization, white space, etc., must be exactly the same. The easiest way to do this is to select all of the tracks in the book, choose File > Get Info, and set the Album field to the title of the book.
See http://samsoft.org.uk/iTunes/grouping.asp for more info on this topic.
That will group all of the tracks together into a single book, as far as iTunes is concerned, but it won't do anything for the track order. When the book is transferred to your iPod/iPhone, the device sorts book tracks by Album (which you just took care of), Disc #, Track #, and Name.
But that's the problem... iPod firmware ONLY looks at the NAME... I've just checked and iPhone/iPod Touch works the same way. You can make things pretty in iTunes by treating the audiobook as you would any other multi-disc album, but if you label the tracks as Audiobook instead of Music then they get jumbled up on your iPod/iPhone unless you use a track naming scheme with alphabetically ordered track names.
Often when importing audiobooks from CDs, the disc and track #s will be semi-random, and you need to fix them. There's no point in setting both the Disc and Track #s, just make sure one is blank (you can do this when you set the Album field, as described above). I generally set the disc # fields to blank, and use the track # fields to set the order. You'll have to do this track-by-track, a bit of a pain, but not really that bad.
Again, see http://samsoft.org.uk/iTunes/grouping.asp for tips on merging/ordering multi-disc albums. I recommend sequential track numbers across the whole album but also including the original disc numbers.
Or, you could just merge all of your audiobook tracks into one or two tracks, with chapter marks. A long article here should help with that:
    http://aldoblog.com/2008/01/how-to-join-multiple-tracks-into-a-single-audiobook- file/
Yep, I've done it once... Seemed like too much effort to repeat for all my books.

  • Itunes 11, audio books, how to get a correct sorted display?

I have some audio books ripped from CDs. The title have a track number (of a certain CD) and have a CD number. Track 3 of 5, CD 2 of 6. Unfortunately in the audio book view the titles for an audio book are not sorted by CD and then by track number. First should be all tracks of CD 1 in order, then of CD 2, and so on. In list view the sort order is correct. But not in the new audio book view.
Is there a way to tell iTunes 11 to sort the titles of an audio book in the correct order?

I've got the same issue with all my 100% correct tagged multi-disc Audiobooks here.
With iTunes 11 it isn't possible to play this kind Audiobooks in correct order.

Mostly because you are not using any capital letters or paragraph returns and your post is difficult to read.

  • Audio book chapters won't sort in order

I'm downloading a book and either in audio book format or as music, I cannot get the chapters to sort in order on my iPod. They sort in order in iTunes, but when I download them to the iPod, they come in reverse order. That really doesn't do it for me when I'm driving and listening!

  • Keeping folders seperate?  Music/Audio Books problem?

I have several Audiobooks and technical mp3's on my computer and would like to be able to play them on my Ipod mini. The problem I am having now is that when I use the shuffle feature it encorporates tracks from the audio books. Is there any way to make a seperate folder that wont be accessed by the shufle feature? Also is there a way to copy plain .mp3 files into the podcast folder? Thank you for the help.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Problems with audio book

I have purchased "God is Not Great" Audio Book by Peter Hitchens. This is a 4 part audiobook - each part being approx 2 hourss long. It plays fine on the computer but doesn't work at all on my iPod nano. It transfers from the computer to the nano with no problem but when I play it on the nano the screen just cycles repeatedly through the four parts in quick succession and no sound comes out.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Okay, after a couple of hours scouring the net and pulling my hair out, I now have to confess that I have solved my own problem - an embarrassingly easy solution as it turns out!
I have now gone to 'settings' on my iPod and found that audiobooks was unchecked for the menu options.  I simply checked it again and 'hey presto' - suddenly I can find my audiobook on the iPod.
    Technologically challenged?  Who me?

  • Is any one else having problems converting audio books in WMA format with the new v5

Is any one having trouble with audio books in WMA formatting converting with the new ios v5

Since updating to OS5 in my itouch I have lost all my library audio books. I have downloaded a couple of new library audio books. The books look like they are being loaded into my itouch but are not there. The only way I can access them is to make a playlist for each book and drag the numbered files into the playlist folder. There are a lot of problems with this method - book chapters are not in order (I have to tried to reorder them without success) and if I stop listening to a book, when it starts again it starts at the beginning of the chapter. Before OS5 I had no trouble with WMA files or anything for that matter. I hope there is a solution soon.

  • Problem with MP3 audio books - truncating

My shuffle is truncating the end of each part (track?) of my MP3 audio books. It loses the last one or two sentences. Is there something I can do to fix this?
I'm using the OverDrive Media Console to borrow books from the library. I have no problem with WMA format books (they appear as audiobooks in the shuffle listing). The MP3 books show up as "Music".
I'm manually managing music, which is required to transfer audio from OverDrive to my shuffle.
    MC754LL/A iPod shuffle 2 GB
    Model A1373
    software version is 1.0.1

I use "My Media Mall" (http://www.mymediamall.net) to check out audio books from the library. They come in 2 formats - mp3 & WMA. When I check out a book it downloads to OverDrive Media Console. Then in OverDrive I transfer the book to my shuffle (through the manually mange the storage option). If I then start itunes, I can see what's been downloaded and what all the properties are. By default WMA books are loaded as audiobooks and there is an automatic play list created. The mp3 books are loaded, by default, into the music section.
Per your original suggestion, I converted the "music" attribute to an "audiobook" attribute, which automatically move the files and created a playlist for the book. It did not stop the truncation problem. I then converted the book back to music, and selected the "gapless album" feature. This has significantly reduced the amount of truncation so that it's gone from a couple of sentences to less than a full sentence.
If I listen to the book on my computer (windows) through itunes, there are no gaps, and no problem automatically finding the next part to play.
FYI - each audiobook is made of several parts (usually 8 - 11 for the books I listen to). Each part contains multiple chapters. Some books only break parts over a chapter break, others seem to divide the parts into semi-equal sizes. If in the shuffle I "skip to next track", it starts the next part. The voice-over feature on the shuffle announces each playlist (eg. book1, book2) and then each individual part (book1 part 01, book2 part 02, etc.). Usually when I start a book, I use the voice-over to find the playlist instead of locating a specific part. If I've been listening to the book via itunes, then I'll have to step through the playlist until the second portion where it lists the individual portions.

My audio books are not showing up in purchase history, but everything else is okay... is anyone having the same problem? I have already authorised my new computer and I am currently downloading my purchased music and videos however the books (audiobooks) are not showing for download.
    Hope someone can help!

"My audio books are not showing up in purchase history,"
That is correct.  You cannot redownload audiobooks.
" is anyone having the same problem?"
Everyone and it is not a problem.  Audiobooks simply are not available for redownload.
