Audio books chapter keeps repeating

Can anyone tell me where i turn off repeat on the music app on the new iPad? ( i know where to change the settings on the iPhone but that little white circle / blue circle / blue circle with a 1 in it is not there on the iPad version)  i am trying to listen to an audio book andit just keeps repeating the same chapter over and over instead of moving to the next chapter.

Perhaps I should have given more detail. The device works the way it works. Listing every chapter is part of the normal behaviour, and often not in a useful order which is the main thrust of that article. However it does point out that you can use one of the various free/cheap tools available to stitch the individual files into a single audiobook file which is what iDevices really expect to receive.
Alternatively you could use a smart playlist which matches a particular title and only includes files with a play count of zero to make it easier to locate the current chapter. I don't recall ever trying this so I'll have a go and see how it works out.

  • Why do my songs and audio books keep getting erased when I add a new book?  Now some books will not play and the iPod does not keep track of where I was when I pause a book, leave for music and then go back!

About a month ago I added some new audio books to my iPod Classic and then after disconnecting, I discovered EVERYTHING had been erased.
I had to restore through my iTunes but then I could not load my music back on.
I uninstalled / reinstalled iTunes and completely reformated the iPod drive.
I successfully got my music and books back on but then added a new book two days ago only to discover everything got erased AGAIN!!!
Of course, my 1 Year Warranty was up about a week before the first incident.....
I formatted the iPod again, uninstalled / reinstalled iTunes (it was freezing during sync) and downloaded all my music and books again.
Now I have several books that will not play (they play on iTunes and they played on the iPod before all these events) and the iPod does not keep track of where I was in a book when I have to stop and go to something else.
Does anyone know what is going on with this thing???  I have a 5th Gen Video and in all the years I've had it, I've NEVER had problems like this!
Does anyone have any ideas on what I can do to get my iPod Classic up and running properly again?
    Thanks.

When iTunes/iPod sync process failed due to timeout, the iPod, has only the initilaised  filesytem structure at the start of the Sync.
The timeout failure could be due to
Bad hardisk - do the iPod disk diagnostic, refer to this excellent post by tt2
Slow USB port or resource - Dont use any USB hub, disconnect all other USB devices while syncing
Timeout due to Antivirus or other plugins - disconnect from Internet and stop the Antivirus or monitoribng software if you are syncing.
Preferably stop doing other things while syncing this ancient device, which the latest iTunes designer, think will soon be extinct.
    Have a nice day!

  • Audio books show every chapter

Im having real trouble with my audio books, they show up fine in Itunes but when I go to audiobooks in my 160Gb Classic it shows every chapter of every book on the main screen, not just the one tile for each book (a nightmare to scroll thought every chapter of the previous books if you want to get to a book at the bottom of the list)
this is after iv converted them from mp3>m4a>m4b so they are all in the right format.

  • How to play next audio book file/chapter?

Trying to setup an ipad2 for my mother and load some of her audio books on it.  The audio books are mostly in mp3 format with some being in m4a.  Books are marked as audio book format.
Problem is that when placed on the ipad and accessed by going through music -> more -> audio books, the books appear, selecting one shows all files/parts of the book, but when playing, it does not advance to next file.  Particular problem in which some books are split into 3 minute chunks per file.
Taking the same files and placing them on my ipod 5.5, they play fine and auto-advance fine.
    Any ideas?
    Ipad 2 w/ iOS 5

    iOs 5 Bug identified...
After selecting an audio book, if you select a file/chapter directly, it will play only that file/chapter and NOT continue to the next one. Also, no icon (speaker) is shown for the files/chapter being played.
If instead you press the play button at top left (not main focus on screen), then the book starts playing from beginning, an icon is present next to file/chapter, and the files/chapter are played sequentially automatically.

  • The audio book on my nano only emits a quick, tin-like sound beginning with the 77th chapter. Any ideas?

I have been listening to a four volume audio book on my nano. At the 76/77th chapter, the narration stops and all I hear is a faint, rapid beat-like sound. This happens on all subsequent chapters. (The first 76 chapters continue to work just fine.) This had never happened before, and I've listened to a ton of books.
I restored the nano to the original factory settings and synced the book to my nano again. Same problem.
The book plays just fine on my computer, so I don't think it's corrupted.
One other bit of information. About 3 months ago, I dropped the nano and cracked the glass a bit. I covered the cracks with some clear packing tape, and it has continued to work just fine--until now.
My software is up to date--version 1.2. Mine is an 8 GB nano, the little square version. It's about a year old and is formatted to my Mac.
    Any ideas?

The info on my MacBook is incorrect. I'm running OS 10.9.5,

  • I have a audio book on computer from apple store but when i put on my iphone loose the first chapter

I have a old audio book from apple store and want to put on iphone (4S) but first chapter is missing ,have lisened on computer and it is there but once loaded o iphone it starts missing the first part have removed reset phone and resynced but still not there.

Next time make regular backups of your computer. The iPhone is not a backup device, and I'm sure you lost more than your iTunes library. See this user tip for your options: Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive

It will only be where you put it.
Did you fail to maintain a backup copy of your computer?

  • I have an iPod classic (160MB) and sync mostly audio books. The difficulty is that the audio books are taking up large amounts of disc space on my computer. Is it possible to just add new ones to the iPod and keep the deleted ones on the iPod?

The audio books I purchase are from Audible - I listen largely because my eyesight is going and I've been an avid reader. I'd like to keep the books on the iPod and not the computer to save space on the computer. Is this even possible?

Yes, though not advisable for content that you may not be able to redownload on demand. I'm not sure what Audible's policy, but with iTunes there is only one download.
You can either place the device in manually managed mode, in which case content you delete from the library won't be automatically removed from the device, or delete the files from Windows Explorer while keeping the entries for the same in the iTunes library. With the second approach iTunes will warn that it cannot find the files to sync (you can disable the warning) but it won't remove them, and you retain the advantage of being able to automatically sync other content.

  • Chapter markers missing in podcasts and audio books

With my new 5th gen iPod the chapter markers are gone from  both podcasts and audio books. Anyone able too tell me how you get them back?

Do the podcasts on your iPod also appear under the podcasts menu?
Unfortunately, it is perfectly normal for them to appear under artist and album on your iPod. The tags on the podcasts identify an artist and an album and they get added to those lists. Not sure why this is not reflected in iTunes.

  • Chapter Markers for Downloadable Audio Book?

Is there any way to create download-able (ie something other than wav) audio that has chapter markers in it? I'm editing and producing an audio book for a client. This recording will be available to customers from his site via download. The customers who download this audio book will need the ability to navigate chapters as you would with music CD tracks.
I certainly know how to use track markers when burning a CD. But web audio must be either stream-able or data-compressed to make it practical as a download, right? And the mp3 format does not recognize markers. Does anyone know what I could do to create a navigable audio program that can be downloaded as an audio book from the web?
    Thanks!
    Ken

Wavpack uses cues just like wave files but it will only halve your filesize. Then again, it has a hybrid mode... maybe check out www.wavpack.com for the possibilities there.
Maybe simply break it up into chapter-size mp3's and package those as a zip file. You'd end up with the equivalent of a normal music mp3 album.

  • 4Gen shuffle  problem selectthis unit chapter audio books

I have 16 chapter audio book on this IPOD. I hold down voice over button until chapters are being read and then release it I tried pressing voice over or play/pause to select a chapter. Doing either one will not select a chapter. Reverts back to where it was when I started. What am I doing wrong???
    Help is appreciated.
    John

People are having the same problem in another thread: "Only plays 1 (ONE) Podcast - No matter what I do" http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2649381&tstart=0
And that includes me! Even if you put multiple podcasts or audiobook files onto a playlist or smart playlist and then put it on your iPod shuffle, only one of them will play. To get the next one on the list to play you have to use Voice Over to scroll forward and then click play, which is ridiculous.
My only advice is to get podcasts and audiobooks directly from websites, if possible, i.e., not as a podcast subscription through itunes. That way, your shuffle will not treat the files as podcasts and you'll avoid the hassle of trying to get them to play in order as a simple playlist.
Obviously something is wrong with the way podcasts are implemented in 4th gen shuffle. Hope this gets fixed soon.

  • I have an audio book in itunes.  I would like to "Cut" part of a chapter and "paste" it as an audio file. Can I do that?

I have an audio book in itunes.  I would like to "Cut" part of a chapter and "paste" it as an audio file. Can I do that?

The file extension is .au  but the logo looks like a soundtrack pro file.
Yes, they are labeled in order b001au to  b00410.au
The great majority are 1.1 Mb but some are smaller. There are 410 files and I took a sampling here and there.
When I go to info it tells me that it is a neXT sound file.
    Thanks, John

  • How do I download audio books by chapter

When I download audio books into my iTunes, they arrive in one big long stream.  I then fall asleep listerning to it, and find I am far too far ahead, and there's this tiny little slider to push back and forth trying to find out the last bit I can remember listening to!
I downloaded a timer, so I could make sure I only listened to 30 mins at a time, but it's still difficult to move the tiny slider back to the right place - I have to memorise the exact time in the book where I started off, etc etc.
Thinking there may be some way of downloading books by chapter?  Or maybe another application?

    Charlene,
This information is covered in your iPod's User Guide.
