Audio breaking up while recording at low volumes, 1212m

emu 1212m
amd 3.7 ghz
vst 5.1
Could you help me with the proper patch mix setup?
I recorded my synth with no problems.
when I record the drums at low levels, like light cymbal work , the sound breaks up and there is noise.
When the full drum set is playing it seams to be ok, maybe there is low level noise that is just being covered up. thanks

If you record a drum-set w/ microphones through some external board (w/ mic-preamps) which is then connected though stereo or ADAT path into 1212M ...have you
- tried another mic(s)?
- checked connections (weak signal + weak connection may cause issues into signal)

  • Audio playback is clipped and has low volume

Hi, I'm hoping that someone can help me debug my audio problems.
The problem is that audio playback is clipped and has low volume.
The details of my setup are as follows:
    - An onboard soundcard (ASUS M4A78LT-M-LE motherboard), identified as Intel HDA in dmesg:
    description: Audio device
    product: SBx00 Azalia (Intel HDA)
    vendor: ATI Technologies Inc
    physical id: 14.2
    bus info: pci@0000:00:14.2
    version: 00
    width: 64 bits
    clock: 33MHz
    capabilities: pm bus_master cap_list
    configuration: driver=snd_hda_intel latency=64
    resources: irq:16 memory:f9ff4000-f9ff7fff
    - ALSA (snd_hda_intel driver) and Pulseaudio
My ALSA mixer settings (which were used in the recording shown in this post) are at pastebin.
The mixer settings were chosen so that all "dB gain" is 0.00 for all columns in alsamixer.
Recording an MP3 (played at full volume) from the Stereo Mixer source in audacity I gives output which looks clipped and has low volume (link).
This occurs with any MP3 and any other sound source (Youtube in Chromium, etc.)
The problem does not occur when I boot into Windows XP, so it doesn't seem to be a hardware problem.
I'm also attaching a screenshot of my alsamixer playback screen for the soundcard (link)
    Thanks for any assistance!

    Hi,
I have the same problem since December 2011 with a similar Mainboard (Asus M4A78T-E).
    Did you resolve your problem?
    Thanks

I found out that my current network situation is ATV3 connected to LAN with Powerline devices gives the problem described above. Changing to WiFi connection to the Router, solves the problem even with a lower speed.

  • Audio line in while recording with ipod touch

Looking at buying a 5th Gen touch to record local basketball games.  Need the ability to record the audio live broadcast into my live video of the game so I am wondering if I can use the video camera of the touch and record a seperate audio track with the video being recorded with a line in option.  I have used a sd camcorder with a line in capability playing the local radio station audio as I record but dont know it this can be done with a ipod touch.  I could use the camera app or imovie app to record but not sure if separate audio track is possible with them or will it just record from the mic of the ipod touch?

You can connect a mic to the iPod via the headphone jack and that mic will be used by the video app you use for the video camera on the iPod. I do not remember if the built-in mic gets cut off when yo do that so you may have to cover the mic hole on the iPod.

  • WP8 WASAPI Low Volume Audio Recording Problem on VOIP App

    Hello,
I am working on a VOIP app and WASAPI is used for the app. I am using WASAPI in SHARED_MODE. Captured audio frames are turned out to be in low volume. For some devices, the audio volume is almost silent (Specially for Lumia 730).
From the VOIP app documentation, i found out that only ISimpleAudioVolume is supported for volume control for Windows Phone. (Ref: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/apps/jj715884(v=vs.105).aspx). But ISimpleAudioVolume::GetMasterVolume(float
    *pfLevel) always returns pfLevel=1.0
Volume level in other VOIP apps like Skype,Viber seems normal.  So, i am wondering what's wrong is going on??
    Thanks,
    Haider

    Hi haiderBd,
In fact, Only ISimpleAudioVolume API is supported for Windows Phone 8. IAudioStreamVolume or IChannelAudioVolume is not supported for Windows Phone 8. Am i right or i have missed something else?
-> Yes, you are correct, if you read carefully about the Requirements section, you should be able to find that ISimpleAudioVolume supported on Windows Store App, but it also mentioned does not supported on Windows Phone 8, which means the API is acceptable
for Windows Store App for instance PC and tablet.
Again, IChannelAudioVolume only support on Windows Desktop, which means the api can be only used in desktop development for instance WPF, winform and etc...
What could be the reason for low volume recording? Is there any way to increase the volume?
-> I'm not that familiar with WASAPI, perhaps related with Share Mode? Try with exclusive mode to see if listening to one audio endpoint device while recording.
I will also try to find some experts to help you with this question.

  • 3GS audio records at a low volume

    Hi all
ive been playing around with the video recorder on mt 3GS and the audio recording level is very low, the same is happening with the memo recorder.
The volume on the phone is turned all the way up when im playing back and this doesnt seem to help much.
Ive uploaded videos to youtube and the volume is still low.
When im using the memo recorder the VU needle hardly moves at all?
When i make calls all is fine, the other party can hear me pefectly clearly.
    Im totally stumped
    Anyone got any ideas?
    Christopher

I seem to remember someone several months ago having this same problem and I think it turned out to be the AUX cord.
FM transmitters tend to have low volume associated with them as well from my experience.

  • Low volume recording audio w/ mixer

I have a Behringer UB1204- PRO mixer and I am trying to record vocals with that, but I can only record and get playback at a very quiet volume. I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to recordng audio, but I have my phantom power on, it records fine, but I wanted to know how to turn it up because I can barely hear my vocals. My main mix sliders are up, the levels are green/yellow and I can still barely hear anything. Anything who is recording with a mixer and not a dedicated seperate preamp, can you help me out?

Keith Do, "Low volume recording audio w/ mixer" #2, 01:19am Sep 26, 2005 CDT
Is that going to affect the vocal quality if my trim is almost at the max?
it can, but that depends on the input. Use your ears.
OK, well the other thing is to look at the input attenuation on your audio interface. In most cases it should be -10dB (consumer)

  • Guitar audio drop-out at lower volumes

I have tried out mainstage on a friends macbook pro, to check if it will be worth an investment into Logic over Garageband, mainly as an effects emulator for my guitar so I don't need to worry about amps in my small flat.   I connected through an Edirol UA-5 USB audio interface and while there were some issues with this interface anyway due to the fact I could only use input-1 rather than the Hi-Z Input-2 that I should use, I wanted to check some audio problems I had and see how to fix them.
Basically, at full volume on my guitar it seems to work fine, but as soon as I turn the guitar volume knob down there is literally no sustain anymore, I can hear a brief note and then it just cuts out, no gradual loss just stops.   If I only plug the interface in without mainstage then the monitor channel gives me the full volume control I expect and I tried my guitar on a proper external amp and it seemes to be fine so i've eliminated my guitar as the problem.
Anyone experienced this or have any suggestions to try to get it to work.
Also, if I use garage band I don't hear the output fromt he amp/effects simulators, only raw guitar and I only hear the final version if I record it and then play it back.  Is there a way to get Garage band to act as a amp/fx simulator in a live mode like mainstage does or is the fact mainstage is playing back through the interface what might be causing the problems in some feedback loop??   Beginning to think an iRig would have been a better option......

    Hi
Sounds like you may have a Noise Gate in there somewhere?
    CCT
yeah I thought of that but couldn't see anything, and think my knowledge of what a noise gate would do is slightly rusty since I assumed that at louder volumes it would clip and at lower volumes it would be fine....i'll have a play next time I am over my friends and see if I can spot anything.
    Thanks for the quick reply.

  • Choosing bit depth while recording audio

    Hi,
First, the short version of the question:
Do you know of any simple audio recording app (ie: not a monster audio suite) which takes low CPU usage, and lets you choose the internal bit depth using for audio sampling (ie: sample at PCM16, at PCM24,...)  ?
Now, in case you need it, the long version of the question:
I'm digitizing my huge collection of audio tapes, with my G5 iMac (OSX 10.4). The quality of the recordings is somewhat low, so I don't need a high-end audio card, and I believe the builtin audio card of this G5 is more than adequate for this task (Burr Brown PCM3052 with support for PCM16, PCM24, and AC3 16).
I've done my first tests with the just-released new version of Audacity (2.0.0), which is compatible with 10.4 and higher, so I'm very happy to be able to install a brand-new application in 10.4.
Audacity works fine, but has a couple of issues:
First, you can choose the audio track bit depth, but not the internal bit depth at which you're sampling. In other words, I'd expect to use some selector to choose from PCM16 or PCM24 recording, which is what this iMac seems to support. However, I can only choose the storage bit depth, not the sampling bit depth. I suppose Audacity is recording at PCM24, but I've no way to test this.
Second, it takes about 40% CPU usage while recording (yes, I disabled the realtime graphics update of Audacity... if I don't disable it, usage becomes 60% or higher).
I tried Audio Hijack Pro (well, the last version supporting 10.4), and it won't let me choose the sampling depth either.
So... do you know of any simple recording app which overcomes this issues?
    TIA!
    cesarpixel

although I was looking for something simpler.
Compared to what you describe, my use of GarageBand sounds "simpler."
GarageBand is part of iLife, so it is meant to be easy to use, unlike big brother Logic.  Furthermore, I am using it in a very limited way. When recording, I just set up ONE track, which is pretty easy.
GB records at the best possible quality, up to 24-bit.  I used 16-bit because my source was analog tapes and records, and I did not think it would make the final result any better.  The GB project file serves as my "master copy" for future enhancement.
The best part is editing the full recording of the entire tape/record, into individual songs, then exporting them to iTunes as 256 kbps AAC (or MP3) files, all within GarageBand.  A few of my records had skips, and I was able to edit them out by overlapping two tracks with the same portion of music, and carefully eliminating the skip at the transition between the two tracks.  Also, because the source is analog, there is noticeable background hiss when the music level is low.  It is particularly noticeable at the end of songs that fade out.  To make the hiss fade out along with the music, I gradually adjusted the master volume level downward to zero starting when the music level became low enough for the hiss to be noticeable.  That made the hiss fade out, which helped "hide" it.

  • APE 7 Mute audio while recording?

When trying to add a narration, my voice comes thru the speakers when I am recording. When I check the "Mute audio while recording" button the audio does NOT mute. Is this a bug?
The only work around is that I have to turn down the speaker each time I want to add a narration. It's a pain in the butt but it works.

I had the same problem and question in APE9, then I searched this forum and found your reply.
The only problem is the wording in the dialog box, which I think Adobe should fix.  While your final sentence is quite true, the slider on the left is not a record-level indicator but rather a volume (as in headphones) indicator, which controls the volume of the feedback coming into the headset speakers from the microphone with a short time lag.  (At least that's the way it seems to work with my headset.)
the problem is with Adobe's wording in that box, namely, "to reduce feedback while recording lower Input Level Volume slider."  Well Adobe, the only slider that I see in the box is the one on the left, and calling it an "Input Level Volume slider" sure sounds like a "record-level control" to me.  That's a logical interpretation in my book.  And "mute audio while recording" is pretty vague, what audio exactly (you answered that question correctly also, but until I saw this post I assumed, like the original poster here, that "audio" referred to the sound/feedback in my headphones, not other audio tracks.  Though I guess if I'd been recording narration on top of another audio track (which I don't usually do), I might have noticed that.
All this to plead with Adobe, if they're monitoring this forum, to reconsider the wording in that dialog box and in future elsewhere in the software.  Maybe before releasing the next version, ask some non-engineers to read the wording in the various dialog boxes and have them edit it, or at least explain to you in their words what they think it means.  You might be in for a big surprise, as above ...  Just a suggestion
Vague or confusing wording such as this doesn't help anyone.

  • Pause button problem while recording audio

Someone talked about that problem on another post but I think
that problem deserve a post for it...
We have a probleme when using the pause button while
    recording audio on a slide.
If we hit the pause button, it completely deletes all
    previous recording in the slide.
If someone have a long text to read for a slide he cannot
take a break and think if everything is ok. Our clients are
    disappointed and calls this function.
Do you have an idea when that problem will be solved ?
    Thank

Hi Edji, I could not agree more. We reported this to Adobe
months ago and it has been acknowledged, but no information will be
made availlable about any fix release date. We have over 500 staff
users making recordings using Presenter and have trained the
majority on version 6. Imagine the number of supports calls we have
had to deal with when suddenly the pause button deletes all
previous slide recordings in version 7.
Depsite many attampts to get a resolution for this we have
had nothing aside from the suggestion above which certainly does
not fix the issue. It is a significant bug in the program that has
caused us endless hours of support work.
We are quite dissappointed at present with the lack of
reponse to the need for a fix and are currently evaluating a number
    of other products.
    Pityful but true.

  • Why does my line-in audio port quit stop working while recording?

My set-up is a bit confusing, so I'll try and be very specific.
I record into Garageband via the following set-up:
Microphone(s) run into TASCAM 4-track -> RCA-to-Stereo Cable runs out of TASCAM into MacBook Pro via the single audio port.
This generally works fine for several hours, but the last 3 times I've had a recording session, the audio signal has dropped to virtually nil without any warning. At this point, even yelling into the microphone (with the TASCAM max-ing out) will only produce 1 volume bar in the "Line-In" system preference screen. At best, it sounds like a very quiet whisper.
My microphone is working (works while recording to tape) as does my cable (RCA - to - Stereo) when used in other situations. Any ideas as to why this is happening? Am I tripping some sort of internal line-in volume...protector? (Is that even a thing?) Or do I need a new audio port?

funny how to one seems to have an answer for this, I just posted my own issue, audio in line port just stopped working after update.

  • Heavy white noise/hiss while recording guitar through audio interface

I have just purchased a new MacBook pro 2011 (low end 15") and have tried recording with an m-audio fast track audio interface. Unfortunately I'm getting terrible white noise and hiss while recording my guitar. The guitar is plugged straight into the interface using a guitar lead which is then usb connected to my mac.
I am pretty sure it's not the interface because it's brand new. Also I have tried three different guitars and all have the same out come.
    Please help
Things that may help diagnose the problem:
I have installed a new driver.
When the gain and presence is increased the noise is worse.
The output is not hitting the red mark.
    Thanks
    Andre

I had your problem and I resolved it! i have my mic and guitars plugged into my Eurorack UB1202 analog mixer which outputs to my MacBook Pro via Bheringer UCA222 audio interface then back to my mixer and to my headphones/speakers. i noticed a white noise last night while i was working and all I did to fix it was unplug the audio interface from the outside usb hub (closest to the screen) and plugged it into my middle hub. the noise has now stopped and its crystal clear.
TL;DR try plugging your audio interface into different usb hubs. it worked for me. hope that helps!

Hi, I have this exact same problem. I haven't been using an iRig, just a cheap USB-jack cable. I managed to do this with the first cable I bought, but since it broke I've been unable to find a replacement that allows me to hear the drums while recording. DId you manage to get over this issue? If so I would really like to know how. Thanks and best wishes.
