Audio Buzzing, External Speakers -- but not in Windows?

Hi,
I have a black Macbook with Leopard and I'm dual-booting Windows (the Windows 7 beta currently). I've had a strange audio problem recently, and though I've seen this problem elsewhere I've not found a solution that works.
When externally-powered speakers are plugged in to the audio jack and no output is present for a while, the speakers begin buzzing faintly and then the volume of the buzzing increases until audio output is produced (the "beep" of changing the volume, for example). At which point there is a loud popping noise and then no more buzzing.
Tha strange thing, though, is that this only appears to happen when I am in Leopard. When in Windows 7, I cannot reproduce it. There are no abnormal buzzing sounds whatsoever when in Windows, but the situation described above happens in Leopard whenever the speakers are plugged in to the Macbook's audio jack.
Any advice/help would be appreciated. Thank you!

I know I may in the wrong section (I am using Mac Mini), but that's EXACTLY what I am "experiencing" with my new Mini.
I did read many many thread in this forum about this problem, the most suitable adjective for the noise is "R2D2" voice and "pop" sound.
In my case, "R2D2" voice comes randomly and no clue for the source of it. Though, I guess it may be related to the disk's activity...(definitely no related to infrared as I have already disabled it).
For the "pop" sound, it comes regularly in every two minutes, no matter what I am doing. It "pop" me when I am listening music in iTunes, watching videos in YouTube or just websurfing without making any sound.
I tried to unplug my Altec Lansing and plug my in-ear headphone (quite sensitive and great in bass), the problem is GONE!!
So my problem only happens when my Mini is connecting my Altec Lansing sub-woofer.
It may be just a little problem for many other users, but it's been driving me nuts!!!!

  • I get sound from external speakers, but not songs

    Hi,
I have a pair of external speakers plugged into the output jack of my PC. I get sound, even from iTunes Help which Dings when I enter search criteria. But when I play songs in iTunes, they're silent. Since I get other sound from them, I know the volume is okay and they're plugged in, etc. I've played with all 3 volume controls -- the ones on the speakers, the one at the lower left next to the clock and the one in iTunes itself. Still no music.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Richard

This worked for me as well. Great find! I have gigabyte ep45-ud3r motherboard and I was getting all sound through external speakers except itunes was playing the sound out of the digital output instead of the speakers. I could see this when I went to control panel > hardware & sound > manage audio devices. I did the repair as described above and now I have sound in iTunes.

  • Sound from external speakers, but not from internal speakers

I tried searching as much as I could and couldn't find an answer....
I always use my function keys to turn my volume up and down. It has worked fine until today, then all of a sudden, my internal speakers wont turn up or down when I use my function keys. The volume window comes up and below the volume level bar there is a circle with a line through it (like no smoking sign, but without the cigarette)which I guess leaves my internal speakers on mute.
So i came home, and plug in my logitech speakers, and I can control the volume fine from my function keys. Then I disconnect my logitech speakers from my computer and I get the same problem with my internal speakers.
I probably confused everyone but I guess a short version is my function keys wont turn on my internal speakers, and when I have external speakers plugged in, everything is normal.
    Please help.
    Thanks,
    Brendan

If you look in the headphone jack, can you see a glowing red light? This happened to many people, it was an issue where a switch got tripped to make the computer to think that a pair of headphones or external speakers were plugged in. Try inserting a toothpick inside the headphone jack and gently probing around in there to try and turn off the switch.
    See here.
And by the way, you don't need to bump topics that are only three hours old.

  • Audio output through speakers but not headphone jack

I have an HP Envy 15-J178ca. I am unable to play audio from my headphone jack, but audio plays on my speakers. When I plug in my headphones, the speakers stop outputting audio but no audio plays through the headphone output. I have tried multiple headphones which all work on different devices and was unsuccessful at outputting audio. I have updated my audio driver to the latest version using the HP drivers site. The following is a screenshot of the sound devices on my computer.

I have the same exact problem, may some one help us

  • [ Windows 7 64-bit ] External speakers / headphones not working

    Hi,
I just upgraded from a MacBook 13.3" (Late 2008) to the brand new MacBook Pro 13.3" (Mid 2010). Sound wasn't a problem in Windows 7 64-bit on the old MacBook, but the new MacBook has somehow messed up the line-out signal to my external speakers (and headphones).
I obviously already tested everything in OSX and didn't find a problem. The internal speakers also work fine in Windows 7 64-bit, but as soon as I connect external speakers (and headphones) in Windows 7 64-bit there's just silence. The speakers are powered, and the playback sound device information (and the volume bars) suggest that all sound devices are working normally, i.e. Speakers, Headphones and +Digital Audio (S/PDIF)+. The chipset is Cirrus Logic CS4206A (AB 13).
Has anyone else come across this issue, and if so, how did you solve the problem?

    Hi,
After googling for two days, I finally found a workaround for my macbook pro 15'' (macbookpro5,3).
I had sound on Windows 7 64bits (with volume ok) and without the red light problem, but i couldn't hear anything from my tv with sound cable connected to headphones. My current version of bootcamp is 3.1 (with all drivers installed from it).
I tried all kind of things (drivers from vista64, xp, bootcamp 2.2, realtek, other versions of cirrus drivers, etc.) with no luck. THE SOLUTION FOR ME WAS TO INSTALL LATEST DRIVERS FROM NVIDIA (YES, graphics drivers) OVERRIDING THOSE FROM BOOTCAMP 3.1. After macbook restart, MY EXTERNAL SPEAKERS STARTED WORKING!!!
    Hope this helps to anyone.

  • Cannot reinstate catalog after returning PC (Windows 7) to factory settings (because of worm infection). Catalog was backed up on external drive but not using PSE backup facility. Cannot find and *.tly file. Is this hopeless?

Cannot reinstate catalog after returning PC (Windows 7) to factory settings (because of worm infection). Catalog was backed up on external drive but not using PSE backup facility. Cannot find and *.tly file. Is this hopeless?

If you made backups of all of your photos and your catalog file using some third-party method (i.e. not using the PSE catalog backup command), then you should be able to restore everything.
Step 1. Put the photos in the EXACT SAME LOCATION as before. For example, if they were in subfolders of C:\Users\<username>\Documents, then they must go into the exact same subfolders of C:\Users\<username>\Documents.
Step 2. Move the catalog file to wherever you want it to be, and then double-click on it.

  • My external speakers are not working, any suggestions?

My external speakers are not working, any suggestions?

try different audio or USB cables.
try the speakers with a different computer.
go to the speaker manufacturer's website and see if there's some troubleshooting info or a new driver that you need.
check System Preferences > Sound > Output
see if the speakers show up in the sound output device list
make sure the mute box is unchecked.
Check Applications > Utilities > Audio Midi Setup
see if your speakers are selected in the column on the left
make sure the mute box is unchecked

I also recently installed a program that shows -all- open files, and parent.lock is not listed, and thus not closable/unlockable from there.

  • I see a distortion icon image in Windows 8.1 but not in windows 8

I saw distorted icon image in windows 8.1 but not in Windows 8. This bug doesn't affect Windows 8.1 functionality but causes some icons to look ugly, distorted, fuzzy. This bug can be seen in "Delete confirmation dialog box". The
folder icon in delete confirmation dialog box will look distorted and ugly. Black edges will appear around the icon and the icon will not look correct. The same thing also happens in "Send To" menu.
Also heard that this bug is not related to graphics card driver or any other thing.
Hope windows will take necessary actions to solve this bug as soon as possible so that users like us can be satisfied with the new windows 8.1.

Try running SFC scan. Refer the following link for more information:
