Audio cd does not play properly

I have an early 2008 macbook with a cd/dvd combo drive. My problem is audio CDs will not play or import properly. The music scratches and pops and sometimes there is no sound at all. When I try to import the audio, sometimes the files will only be 10 seconds long, but the track on the cd is 7 minutes. Also when importing a CD some of the tracks in iTunes say "Not Available" where the length of the track is listed. DVDs, on the other hand, play fine.
I'm not using burned discs. These are brand new audio CDs.

I just started having the same issue, I just got a brand new cd and when I import the cd I get skips and scratches in the music. I just updated to 10.6 today, and I don't know if it is a problem with the new operating system or with my aging machine (most likely my machine because it is a '06 MB). I know it is not the CD because I can play it on my surround sound at home with no skips. Any ideas how to fix the issue?

I downloaded a song that I purchased from the ITunes store, but the song does not play properly.  How can I re-download the same song without having to purchase it a second time?

I could not find an option to "report a problem".
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the item that is not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the entry, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" link next to the item.
(Not entirely sure what happens after you click that link, but fingers crossed it should be relatively straightforward.)

I rented a movie and when I pressed play it would not play. When it finally started to play it would freeze and looked very digital.

I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.

  • Elements 9 Slideshow Audio File does not play completely

How do I get an Elements 9 Slideshow to play an entier audio file?  Facts: The slideshow duration is greater than the audio file duration.  The audio file is an MP3 that fades and terminates prior to the 4:26 duration.  No "Trimming" is applied to the audio file.

I'm not sure about this. The tool with which the mp3 has been created is the "Sound Tool" (Tools => Multimedia => Sound Tool) You can also choose for Flash Tool but that is not the one which has been used. There are other pdf readers especially designed for iPad which say that they have a sound tool built in (for the iPad) that should play mp3's. Nevertheless they don''t function as well (so I complained as well, not yet answered) they even don't show the link. The iPad Adobe Reader does show the link, but it does not start. I suppose that they have a built in player as well which is NOT flash. Why otherwise even have the possibility to choose between Flash and a sound tool in Adobe???

  • ITunes 7.02 does not play properly on Windows XP Computer

I was given a 20 GB click wheel iPod in 2004. It went sick and I was given a new 30 GB 5th generation. Prior to updating iTunes to version 7.02 for Windows iTunes always worked well in playing from computer through an Onkyo stereo amp and speakers. With the new 7.02 it will jump to another song, (about 2400 songs installed) as well as a movie and a game. In addition, it jumps from one song to someplace else, not the next song on the list.
It does not do this on the iPod itself. It works as it should. Is this a matter of 7.02 not quite being ready for prime time, or is there something it requires that earlier versions did not and I have failed to grasp?
The computer has two gigabytes of DDRAM at 400 Mhz and 120 GB of hard disk space with almost half available. Sound card is Sound Blaster Audigy 24 bitX-Gamer.

I told you that I was embarrassed to ask the question re iTunes. In iTunes 7.02 in the control menu there is an item called "Shuffle." It was clicked, so it was doing what it was supposed to do, "shuffling." I never use shuffle, and have no idea how it was selected. I'll take the easy way out and blame Apple for making it a default when I made the upgrade to 7.02.
Moral to the story is RTFM and all menus and settingss.

  • Importing from CD does not play properly in iTunes on Leopard

When I am import from a CD either separately per song or all at once, the songs import and you can see the song on my library; but then when I play they do not work, only work for a few seconds and then quit, or skip badly. I have tried changing the preferences and am importing as .mp3 now but still have same problems. I read the forum and saw problems similar but not exactly like mine. Also when just clik and drag the track as an .mp3 from an external drive I get the same problem. Anyone know what gives?

  • Youtube does not play properly

iPod touch pauses/hangs while playing the youtube video even though the speed of the connection is 2Mbps. The same video on computer downloads very quickly. Is there any fix to the problem?

I am experiencing the same problem, but it's not consistent. My problem might be related to network traffic? I notice the problem more in the evenings. YouTube videos load on the iPod Touch, but will hang or stutter. Resetting the iPod doesn't make any difference. (The same videos play without issue on my laptop.) Then, the next morning the same videos will load and play on the iPod Touch - completely without issue. I am a Comcast home subscriber. I use 1 - 3 laptops, wi-fi printer and a Roku radio, all accessing a Netgear router. It doesn't seem to make a difference if any or all of the wi-fi devices are in use. The only difference seems to be time of day?

  • Since downloading ver 10.5 MPEG audio files will not play properly on my windows XP computer

The files are still good as I can play them on Windows Media Player but when played on itunes they are extremely distorted.
AAC files play fine. This makes itunes pretty much useless on my computer and I am afraid to sync my ipod to it.
I've tried everything I could in troubleshooting but nothing really seems to address this problem. i even removed itunes from the computer and reinstalled it with the same result. I am new to this community so if this problem has already been addressed and answered, I would appreciate some one pointing me to the solution.
    Thanks

Possible resolution...we'll see if it takes. I removed all hardware and software that had anything to do with audio and video and then added things back one at a time, testing the iTunes after each reinstall. When I reinstalled my Logitech Quickcam Orbit MP and then started iTunes the error message and the audo problem returned. I removed the cam and then tried again and iTunes was fine. So I think that might have been the issue...although we'll see. At least iTunes is working now and I was able to watch the season finale of Heroes which was a great relief. I am sad to see the Petrelli's dead but at least Hiro was able to find himself. Anyway thanks for all your help and I hope that iTunes remains friendly to me.

  • The music I buy in the Iphone does not play in itunes

iTunes: How to move [or copy] your music [library] to a new computer [or another drive] - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527 - a somewhat bewildering and not always easily understandable set of options.
Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Open iTunes and immediately hold down the Option (alt) key (shift on Windows), then guide it to the iTunes Library.itl file in the moved iTunes folder.
For the record there's this reference for iTunes 11 but it really doesn't strike me as having the specifics you need. iTunes 11 for Mac: Move your library to another computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12168
Windows users see tip at: https://discussions.apple.com/message/18879381
2011 Transferring your iTunes library - http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/articles/comments/moving-your-itunes-library-to -a-new-hard-drive/  - An article with good background information, particularly if you are not sure your media files are all grouped for quick  solution above. Unfortunately it uses the single term "transferring library" for two very different moves; relocating just your media (not recommended unless you really need this configuration) and relocating media+database (really your whole "library").  Make sure you understand the difference before electing to move only media.
If you put it in the default location of Macintosh HD > Users > *User Name* > Music  then you don't even need to start with the option key held down, iTunes will automatically look for it there.  (Make sure there isn't anything already in the iTunes folder there that you want to keep since you will be replacing it with the one you are moving.)

  • Flash audio player not playing in safari (it shows but does not play).

Basically i own an internet radio station and for some reason the web player (flash player) no longer plays in Safari since i upgraded to OS X Lion, was working before but not now, it does show the player it just does not play any audio, however it does work in Google Chrome.. any ideas why its no longer working since installing Lion??

The error is "Internet Explorer has stopped working.  A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.  Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available". Then when I click on the Windows solutions icon, it says:
Adobe Flash Player has stopped working properly.
To troubleshoot this problem, follow these steps:
Click to go online and run the Flash Player  uninstaller
In the File Download dialog box, click Run, and then follow the  instructions to uninstall flash player. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the  password or provide confirmation.
Click to go online and install the Flash Player update
I've done both these things for 2-3 days now.  Nothing works.

  • DVD drive does not play some DVDs properly

    Hi,
My Macbook was purchased in 2007; So it is a bit old. I haven't used the DVD drive very often.
I bought two new DVDs from Amazon recently. However, when I played them in my Macbook using DVD Player, the disk pauses and skips very often, making it impossible to watch the DVD. In addition, the Player would display the "Skip over damaged data" warning.
I thought it was a problem with the software (DVD Player); so I installed the VLC player. Problems occurred as well. Disk would pause and then simply stop (the screen closes).
I thought that perhaps it was the problem with the Amazon DVD disk. So I played some other DVDs in my Macbook, with both DVD Player and VLC Player. There was NO problem at all with the other DVDs.
Then my conclusion was that the Amazon DVD was faulty. I requested a replacement, which they sent to me promptly within a day.
However, the same problem occured. The replacement DVD would not play properly in either DVD Player or VLC Player in my Macbook. It would pause and skip very frequenntly.
Now I began to suspect that maybe the Optical Drive was faulty. So I brought the DVD to my school and tried to play it in two computers: one PC (with VLC); the other Mac (DVD Player). To my surprise, the DVD played flawlessly in those two computers.
Now my conclusion is that the optical drive of my Macbook is faulty.
However, after doing some preliminary research on the internet, I find that replacing the internal optical drive is a difficult process. The alternative seems to be buying an external drive. But there seems to be concern about booting the computer (when the need arises) from an external optical drive.
    Questions:
    1. Is my conclusion justified? (That I have a faulty optical DVD drive)
    2. If the optical drive is faulty, then why do some DVDs play with no problem in my Macbook?
    3. Would you recommend replacing the internal drive or puchasing an external optical drive? What are the advantages and disadvantages to both?
    Thanks a lot!

Thanks again. I went ahead and deleted the DVD Player folder and the plist file.
The result is that it appeared to temporarily improve the playback of the DVD. For the first two hours, the DVD paused considerably less and each pause was of a relatively short duration. There was much less skipping. So the playback was almost tolerable, if I lower my standards.
However, after two hours, it reverted to its old ways. The pauses and skipping became so frequent and long (as before) to make the DVD simply unwatchable.
I don't know what to make of this.

  • Macbook Pro does not play audio part of video

    Hi,
I have a Macbook Pro (early 2013 with OS 10.10.1).
A colleague sent me a video file, which was originally recorded in MTS format. The sound portion of it does not play on my machine, although it generally can handle MTS. I have a colleague with a Windows PC, for him the audio plays ok. I have another colleague with an older MBP, for him the audio also plays ok. But then I have two more colleagues with a newer MBP like me, and for none of us the audio plays at all. The strange thing is that I can open the file in various editors such as Premiere, Audition, or Logic Pro, and they would all show the waveform of the audio, even the VU meters react normally, but there still is no audible sound.
On the machines that play the sound, we have tried converting the video and exporting the audio portion into various other formats, but with the very same result. None of them play sound for me. This is extremely weird and we have no answer what could be the problem.
Any help would be very much appreciated.
Thanks a lot & best regards,
    Rainer

    Hi Eric,
    thanks for the reply.
As I said, we had tried several editors and players, as well as all kinds of formats, using all kinds of converters, but so far to no avail.
The AAC codec is a common codec for the Mac, so there should be no need to convert it. I have videos with that codec that play ok. It already turned out that converting the video file to other formats does not make any difference.
    But thanks anyway,
    Rainer
