Audio CD doesn't burn track names

I am backing up some purchased music onto an audio CD, when I burn the CD it doesn't hold onto the track names and if I insert the CD my other computer it says the track name isn't available do I want to submit them. I know the track names are available because I bought the Music in iTunes and it's in the charts, why does my computer not burn the track info when itt's burning the CDs?
I know they are protected AAC tracks but I have never had this prroblem before.
Is it a preference setting thing?
I also had to authorise the computer to play them even though I downloaded them into this computer, might it be that way back whenever I set up an iTunes account I had a different mac??
Mac Pro and Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

The Audio CD format doesn't contain song info data at all. If you want to keep track names and other song info, you should burn your CD as a data CD.
Data CDs are good for backups and for moving files from one computer to another. Audio CDs are good for playing in regular CD players.
Of course, some advanced CD players are able to play MP3s off of Data CDs.

why aren't the track names and info transfering to the cd's when i burn playlists?

Because audio CDs do not have track names or other info.

  • Itunes crashes when attempting to submit CD track names

After importing an Audio CD I update the track names. This has worked perfectly until the most recent upgrade of Itunes.
Steps to consistently cause the crash:
In Itunes, click on Advanced Menu option.
    Select 'Submit CD track names'
Enter a more than one character in one of the fields. Doesn't matter which field it always crashes.

  • Burn Purchased Music CD No Track Names

I'm upgrading a few purchased songs to iTunes + and want to copy them to a second authorized PC. The track names show up on the CD when I burn them on the first PC but when I insert the CD into the second PC, I get the msg "Could not find track names, do you still want to import them?" Looks like GraceNote trys to name but cannot. I have the Audio CD and Text boxes checked when I burn. How can I get the track names, etc without manually typing them. TIA

I will not be able to play the Data CD on any other cd player?
No, a data CD, since it's just computer data, cannot be played on any normal CD player. CD players with some exceptions can only play Redbook-standard audio CDs, which is what iTunes burns when you select the Audio CD option.
basically the Data burning is used for transferring songs from one itunes library to another.
Burning as a data CD is for transfer and for making backups.
The audio is used for having a cd to play outside of itunes.
For playing on any player that can only handle standard CDs. This could include a home or car CD player, a DVD player (many if not all of which can play audio CDs), or some other computer that doesn't have a player that can handle the format of the tracks (particularly the copy protection on some tracks from the iTunes Store).

  • Import "Audio CD", no track names

this is probably an easy problem but...
all of a sudden when i put one of my cds in to import it, itunes doesn't recognize it. no track names, album title, nothin... just 'audio cd'
help would save a lot of typing
    thanks

It used to be that when I created a custom playlist of my own music and burned a CD, the track names and name of the CD would appear (in Finder & iTunes) when that CD was inserted in another Mac. Now, all I get is "Audio CD" for a disc title and "Track n" for the tracks. At first, I thought the problem was in Leopard (burning a CD there and mounting it on a Tiger machine), but doing it in reverse also fails. What happened? This makes sending someone a non-commercial custom CD totally useless.

  • Track names and other data not showing up in CD burned in iTunes

Made a playlist today from songs in my library which have all data, selected "write CD text" in the burn dialogue box, burned the CD. When I reinserted into my computer and it mounted in iTunes there was no track or other info, title was "audio CD" and iTunes tried to connect to Gracenotes where, of course, the info was not found.
This is a new problem. Previous playlists burned to disc always had the info.
Just for fun I burned the playlist in Toast 8.0.4 (the latest version my iMac PPC can run), and again checked the box to have the CD text burned to the disk.
Again when I reinserted the CD burned in Toast all I got was "audio CD", the correct number of tracks and no other info.
Has something changed in iTunes recently?
    TIA
    Caroline

    Anyone?
    per HT3814:
    Remembering audio CDs you burn
iTunes also "remembers" every audio CD you burn. However, the CD and track names are not burned onto the CD itself. If you insert the burned audio CD into another computer, or even log in as another user, the CD will be titled "Audio CD", and will have generic track names. Since the track length and the overall CD length is the same as the store-bought album, iTunes finds the information for the store-bought album when it looks the CD up online.
So why does this no longer work on my iMac?
It DID work for a playlist from multiple ripped CD's a year or so ago--has this changed in the newer iterations of iTunes?
    Points given freely for help

No, this standard has been implemented for several decades.
How iTunes remembers audio CDs - http://support.apple.com/kb/TA27785
It is just conceivable you burned a CD that exactly matched one already in the Gracenote database.  Gracenote uses track count and duration to decide what CD it is you have in a computer.  If you have one that matches that it will label it.  You could conceivably even have one that matches it that is not the correct one.
This script will only work on Macs:

  • HT203164 how do i get track names transferred to CD burned from itunes?

teh equestion has it all - if i burn playlists I gte track 1, 2 etc and not names from playlists

It still is simple, but as always you get the track names before you import the CD.  iTunes has a preference setting so it will always do that or you can re-identify a CD using a menu item (see below).  Once they are imported there is no way in iTunes to get the identification service to work.  There are third party services that work outside of iTunes but for a single CD it is easier to just reimport the whole thing after correctly identifying first.

What are all those iTunes files? - http://www.macworld.com/article/139974/2009/04/itunes_files.html - "iTunes Library Extras.itdb contains some Gracenote CDDB information."
To re-identify an incorrectly identified CD: "Insert the CD and select it in iTunes, then menu Advanced > Get CD track names. It should requery the Gracenote database and let you pick the correct album." - https://discussions.apple.com/message/18901866 - Newer versions in upper right hand corner, Options>Get Track Names

  • When i burn a playlist to CD, how to get the track names on the CD?

When i burn a playlist to a CD, the tracks are all there and play just fine.  But when i look at the track names on the CD, they're just "Track 1", "Track 2" etc.  the tracks on the playlist itself are all named with fulll information.  How can i burn the CD so the track info will be included?

Try changing the Disc format to Audio CD in iTunes preferences.
If you burn it as a data CD, it will only be playable on computers (and a small number of other players).

  • After downloading the latest version of iTunes, I cannot get track names to appear when burning a cd from my playlists.  Any ideas, please??????

What gives?  I cannot get track names to appear on recently burned cd's. Just downloaded latest version of iTunes.  I'm at a total loss.  Have Googled- tried several things to no avail.

Go to the iTunes folder (it is in Music folder) and do this:
    1. Back up your music
    2. Delete "iTunes Library.itl". Then, open iTunes again and it should work

  • Bogus audio track names from audiobook

I just downloaded and installed version 7.4.3.1. I recently purchased an audiobook and attempted to load itonto the Ipod ( which I have had no previous problems doing ). When Itunes recognizes the CD it appears in my devices screen with bogus information for the CD name, the author and I always now see 99 tracks with names of songs in my library. Is this a new bug??

As far as I know, you can only generate track names on CD's from Gracenote if the order, the amount of tracks and the time per track on your CD is correct (= original).
So, if you have complete albums, and you are able to 'reconstruct' them as described above (same tracks in same order as on the original CD), than burn a CD from this. Mount this CD in iTunes, and let it search in Gracenote; if you did a good job, you will receive your track names. You can now re-import your tracks to iTunes.
But, when the albums that are incomplete or when you don't want to spoil all this empty CD's, I think you'll have to retype all your track names. Maybe you can look for the track names on Gracenote or amazon and copy-paste this.
One good thing : if you have converted your AAC's to AIFF's (that's how I understand it), you did get rid of the protection and you will be able to burn as many CD's from this songs as you want

  • IDVD 08, dual layer DVD doesn't burn last 2 minutes of audio

    Hello,
iDVD 08, dual layer DVD doesn't burn last 2 minutes of audio, I get perfect audio/video through the whole DVD except the last 2 minutes or so...
I'm burning a 3 hour DVD on iDVD 08. I'm burning it only a DL+R Dual Layer disc. I've burned with "high quality" compression, "professional quality" compression. I've even burned the last 2 minutes of the timeline just to make sure it wasn't the quicktime file and the video and audio played fine.
The size of the project in the setting reads the project as 6.5 GB out of the 7.7 available on the disc.
So why does it always cut off the audio the last 2 minutes of the DVD? Any suggestions?

Try making a disc image to the desktop (from the file menu in iDvd) and see if it plays fine with apple's dvd player app.

  • Burned CD Track Names

Hi I am having trouble getting track names on cd in Waveburner. I am using a 17" Macbook Pro with an external burner. I have checked the burner with drutil info. It shows that it does write CDText. And, I see the track names when I use drutil cdtext. I am using my car stereo(which does show cd text) to check for the text. Discs that I burn in Waveburner do now show any text in my car. However, cds that I burn on my pc using CD Architect do show cd text. So, for now, I have to burn my masters in CD Architect to show the text. I think I have the settings in Waveburner set correctly to burn text, but there could be something I missed. Any ideas? Thanks.

Thanks to all for the info, we are getting close.
So, iTunes has to look up the info that is registered with Gracenote. I went to their site and will go through their registration process, but what about everybody else in the world. I can't believe that everybody has to be hooked up to the web and look up in some distant database to get track names to show up. Aren't they there in the subcode? What about someone playing the CD in a car? What about all the PC people in the world, (there still are a few)? Waveburner is supposed to be a "Mastering" program isn't it? That's all I want to do without paying a grand for someone else to "master" it for me. (mastering engineers do a great job I know, I mastered records with John Golden at K-Disc Mastering in LA back in the day, now I just want to do it myself in my own studio) I want to burn small quantities of our projects (100 or so) ourselves to sell at gigs and as promo copies. And then as a project gathers a little momentum, go to a regular duplication place for larger runs. Does anybody know if WB will do that, and have the names show up just as other commercial disc do? (not in iTunes) Thanks again for everyones input.

  • Renaming LPX Project-(folder) Audio-files by track name?

    Hi
Is there any way or command to rename LPX Project folder Audio-files by track name automatically?

If you're really using that version of L8, you really need to get the software update for that - there were quite a few glaringly obvious faults with the initial release of Logic 8, which a couple of updates rectified.
I can't guarantee that the particular problem you specified is one of them, but you defininitely should do that...

  • Burning CDS and Getting Track Names

HELP! I cannot figure out how to get track names on CDS that I burn. Instead all i get is TRACK 1, Track 2...
What setting needs to be changed on the latest version????

Have you posted this question twice? When you click the "Burn" button a window will come up. You can select the box for "included CD text". However, it is possible that it still won't work as is the case for me. I'm trying to find an answer but finding only aggravation as usual when I need support for iTunes.
