well this morning i tried a different cd then cd's. now i was trying 2 random, apparently non damaged cd's last night and they did not work. the one i try this morning works!
however the 2 that didnt work on my arch last night will play on a different computer of ubuntu flavor.
2 things here: i cant believe i randomly grabbed 2 audio cd's last night that didnt work...out of 100's that apparently do. i cant  believe one linux OS works and the other does not with those 2. so thanks for help, still kinda confused though.

  • "No medium found" trying to overwrite USB media ... [solved]

    Following the guidelines in the Wiki 'USB Installation Media', I tried to transfer the latest archlinux iso to a USB drive to function as a rescue disk:
    sudo dd bs=4M if=archlinux-2012.11.01-dual.iso of=/dev/sdc
    But when I enter this command, I get the following error message:
    dd: opening ‘/dev/sdc’: No medium found
    The Gnome Disks-utility shows that the USB drive is indeed located at /dev/sdc. It is not mounted.
    I have tried this with two different USB drives. What am I doing wrong here?

    I ran into this yesterday. I think that nautilus uses 'eject' or some other magic that messes with your device file.

  • MP4 movie error: No audio and video tracks found.

    I recently move all my movies to a better performance hard drive. I imported the movies or playlists to iTunes. All movies were playing flawlessly until one day I get the dialog "Can't access file" ... I tried several things I encounter on this communities but the files still not played.
    I can see all the files with their size on the hard drive, but when I try to imported or drag to iTunes, they simply not appear or they don't import at all.
    In one of my test I found a dialog appear indicating "Error opening file: No audio or video tracks found" ...
    I need the way to fix this situation, since I have over 500 movies on that drive. Would somebody help me ???
    My email is [email protected], just in case you want to help me directly.
    I can even pay a nice reward to the person who help me fix this issue. Seriously.

    What is a better performance hard drive and what operating system? Kind of sounds like this should be posted to the morons over at Power Mac forum and the bozo that moderates it

  • Core Audio: Selected Driver not found. (-10202) error message and speakers don't work

    Apple just replaced my hard drive and now I'm noticing that I have no sound coming out of my internal speakers or earphone jack.  When I try to use garage band I get the following error message:
    Core Audio:
    Selected Driver not found (-10202)
    I read their article on the subject; I go to system preferences, sound then output devices where I'm supposed to select my device except there are none listed.  I tried to fix the problem by reinstalling the operating system using the CD's that came with the MacBook Air but that didn't work either.
    Here's the other problem, when I download the software update the update never loads.  The status bar just sits there even when I let my pc alone over night.
    Any suggestions??
    FYI, i can't easily walk into a mac store for assistance.. gotta catch a plane to a different island.

    Update your Apogee and Symphony drivers to Mountain Lion versions...
    But the bigger question is.. How did you install Mountain Lion on a G5?

  • SD to USB adapter: No medium found

    Hi,
    i have a new micro-SD to USB adapter but i doesn't work properly.
    Output of dmesg when i insert the USB adapter:
    $ dmesg
    scsi 7:0:0:0: Direct-Access Generic STORAGE DEVICE 0272 PQ: 0 ANSI: 0
    sd 7:0:0:0: [sdb] Attached SCSI removable disk
    In /dev there is just sdb and no partitions although the micro-SD card has already a partition (just one). If i use the micro-SD card in the SD card slot this works properly:
    $ dmesg
    mmc0: new SDHC card at address 1234
    mmcblk0: mmc0:1234 SA16G 14.6 GiB
    mmcblk0: p1
    So there must be a problem with the USB adapter.
    Here just a few more information:
    $ lsusb
    Bus 002 Device 008: ID 05e3:0736 Genesys Logic, Inc. microSD Reader/Writer
    $ fdisk /dev/sdb
    fdisk: cannot open /dev/sdb: No medium found
    But there is a medium and this medium already has a partition.
    I already searched for the "No medium found" error but i could not find a solution. Does anybody has an idea of what is going wrong?
    Best Regards

    I had very similar or even the same problem some time ago.
    Have you recompiled the kernel on your own?
    If yes - maybe you forgot to select following option: CONFIG_SCSI_MULTI_LUN?
    In my case without this option kernel allocated only one device in /dev/ (sdb, or so on), but with this option the kernel registers 4 block devices: sdb, sdc, sdd and sde. The connected micro-SD card will be accessible in one of those devices.
    If this is a standard kernel from Arch distribution you may check it with:
    zcat /proc/config.gz | grep CONFIG_SCSI_MULTI_LUN

  • Audio Card cannot be found

    Audio Card cannot be foundi I just realized that I have lost all audio. I could use some help trouble shooting the issue. I have a Dell Dimension 900 w/ a Creative SB Audigy 2 ZS audio card. I run Vista Home Premium w/ SP2. There have been no recent hardware or software additions (or removal) . I run "Creative Diagnostics" and receive a message that the audio card cannot be found on the system. Device Manager indicates the device is working properly. Media Player displays and displays visualization. Volume Mixer displays sound. I have reset the audio card on the mother board I have reset the speaker connections. I have checked speaker with a second source I have checked and set speaker volume. Power to speakers is on. Speakers are not in "mute" mode. I have verified that I am using the most current driver for the audio card (no change from exisiting driver).

    I uninstalled the device through device manager and then reiinstalled the driver - same symptoms.

    I have kinda solved the problem I had in my previous post:
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=84615.0
    However now I have a new problem. I solved my other problem by moving the memories from the 2 green slots on the mainboard to 1 green and 1 purple. I started the computer and managed to ged rid of the bluescreen and the freezes but not without the cost of a new problem.
    My new problem is that I get alot of CRC errors now when installing biggers things ( Like most games for example). Before I switched one of the memory sticks to purple I didnt seem to have these problems since I managed to install a few games ( Painkiller, warcraft 3 FT, battlefield 2 for example) but now with the sticks in green and purple Im having problems installing most games ( Got crc error on painkiller expansion, farcry, cold fear for example. however I got empire earth 2 to get installed).
    Ive hard this problem could be cause of an faulty hard disk but Ive used both of the ones I have installed right now in my old computer and they worked perfectly there.
    Anyone got any suggestion on what the problem can be?
    I would get extremely happy if someone could help me fix this problem.

    What hard drive do you have?  Can you put these specifics in your sig.  Anyway, when games freeze after 20 minutes its either not enough juice from the power supply...(I have a tagan but its a 480w u22 with 12v@30a) OR, its high temps.  What are your temps?
    Second, do you have "matched pair" of ram or did you buy them separately.
    EDIT: What are your drivers for the video card too, are you using the latest ones from nvidia?

    The manual does state to fill up the green slots before using the purple slots. I've noticed the memory dimms are fickle as well. I was having issues with the memory slots.
    Put the memory in slots 1 and 3 first and see what happens.
    TR, you will miss the benefit of dual channel, I made this same mistake but it is talked about greatly on this forum.  If you have matched pairs, then either slots 1&2 or 3&4 are the best combinations for dual channel.  Just my 2 cents.

  • "Audio Record Path Not Found" error and new details

    I've been having problems opening up older GarageBand files I've created and trying to add new content. When I try to record on an existing track, or in a new track, I get the error: "Audio Record Path not Found! Please enter it in the following dialog." (and there's no following dialog). I've tried to save the file as an archive, which has worked in the past, but doesn't work any longer. I'm using a MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo 15"
    As a test, I installed iLife 06 on my older (PowerPC-based) Mac Mini. On that computer, I'm able to open the files, and record onto an existing track. None of my recording equipment is attached to this machine, however. If I save an archive and move it to my macBook Pro, I'm still not able to add recordings to it.
    I tried reintalling GarageBand on my MBP, but I still get the same error. I've also deleted the preference files from Library > Preferences. (the two com.apple.garageband... files), and still no luck. It doesn't sound like the audio files themsleves are corrupted since I can open them on the Mini, so it's likely GarageBand. What else can I delete to make it a pristine installation?
    I don't want to use my Mac Mini for recording, as it's too slow for my editing needs, but if I can't open the files on my MacBook Pro, I'll have to re-record them.
    Anyone have any ideas I can try?

    Excellent suggestion! I actually left the files on the external USB drive on which I store them, and accessed them from my MacBook Pro (instead of moving the files to the MacBook Pro), and sure enough, I'm able to edit and add to the files!
    I still don't know why I can't access them locally on the MBP, but this workaround is certainly acceptible for my needs!
    Thanks out to everyone who helped on this thread!

  • Unable to mount dvd's (no medium found)

    I have a dual layer DVD-ROM in my laptop (dvd/cd-rom combo).
    When I try to mount a DVD:
    mount -t udf /dev/hdc dvd
    I get the following error:
    mount: No Medium Found
    I'm sure /dev/hdc is the dvd-rom device, at least that's what dmesg says:
    hdc: QSI DVD+/-RW SDW-082, ATAPI CD/DVD-ROM drive
    hdc: ATAPI 24X DVD-ROM DVD-R CD-R/RW drive, 2048kB Cache, UDMA(33)
    I've looked into several threads about the same issue, but none of the solutions worked. Funny thing, I can mount normal cds...

    I did a search, and apparenty your drive can be problematic, so you're not the only one .  I googled around, and they recommend you upgrade the firmware to LX43, which is here: http://mega.ist.utl.pt/~cfao/QSI-SDW-082-LX43.zip
    Give that a whirl and see if it helps.

  • Logic express "Instrument EXS24 Yamaha Grand Piano.exs: 054_F#2KM56_S.wav file audio couldn't be found"

    Hi, i have a problem with logic express opening on the macbook pro, i have the program on the imac and it works good, but when i put it on the macbook pro and open it i want to select the acoustic piano instrument and it says: "Instrument EXS24 Yamaha Grand Piano.exs: 054_F#2KM56_S.wav file audio couldn't be found", and i cant use the piano controller to record acoustics pianos, please if someone know what is happening and how to fix it,
    Thx!

    It's actually a GarageBand file: /Library/Application Support/GarageBand/Instrument Library/Sampler/Sampler Files/Grand Piano. You could copy it over from your iMac if it's missing on your MBP. If you find you have other files missing you might want to just reinstall the content.

  • Mkinitcpio to build Initial RAM Disk: error: /dev/sr0: No medium found

    Prior to using mkinitcpio-busybox 1.15.3-5, building an Initial RAM Disk for my custom kernel resulted in no error messages.
    Using mkinitcpio-busybox 1.15.3-5, I ran and got:
    [root@Galicja linux-2.6.33.1]# mkinitcpio -k 2.6.33.1-ARCHMOD -g /boot/kernel26-2.6.33.1-ARCHMOD.img
    :: Begin build

    :: Parsing hook [sata]
    :: Parsing hook [filesystems]
    :: Generating module dependencies
    :: Generating image '/boot/kernel26-2.6.33.1-ARCHMOD.img'...SUCCESS
    However, using this Initial RAM Disk in menu.lst for booting into my new kernel worked fine (as before when I wasn't using mkinitcpio-busybox) without any crashes, panics, or errors.
    Should the message "error: /dev/sr0: No medium found" refer to a 'warning' instead of an error? What can I do to avoid this message (adjust any hooks or modules in mkinitcpio.conf)?
    Note: /dev/sr0 refers to my Optical Block Device (CdRom).
    Here are the contents of my mkinitcpio.conf file:

    Got the exact same error here. Did not get it before said changes to mkinitcpio (busybox).
    However, there are some things I did not quite understand:
    djgera: "(don't worry, is not an issue)"
    By that you mean that it is not a bug or that it is not going to give the system any troubles?
    .:B:. :"I don't see how the error message is 'misleading'? Do you mean you do have an optical drive while the script doesn't seem to pick it up?"
    Do you mean that if I have an optical drive then I should not be getting this error? 'Cause I've got one and the error always appears to me. Or should I be getting the error output even though I have an optical device? If that is so, then in that sense I think said error message is potentially misleading for if it is an initrd-related error, then something is not going to work well on my Initial Ram Disk. I mean, by errors I understand that certain things will not be working well or mainly not working at all. If that is not the case, then I don't see why the output is given as an error. Thanks for the attention.

  • "/dev/sr0: no medium found" and the boot log

    Hi.
    On boot I see the message
    failed to open /dev/sr0: no medium found
    Some say that I need to disable floppy, but I didn't find if that's true and how.
    No such option in BIOS. And I blacklisted the module.
    Also, I wonder where is the boot log.
    Some say that these messages are in dmesg, but that is not true
    dmesg | grep /dev/sr0
    is empty.
    My log folder
    ls -1 /var/log
    Xorg.0.log
    Xorg.0.log.old
    btmp
    cups
    faillog
    journal
    kdm.log
    lastlog
    old
    pacman.log
    pm-powersave.log
    vsftpd.log
    wtmp

    sr0 is your optical drive, not the floppy.
    The logs are nowadays in the journalctl - see the wiki and the man page.
    Post your /etc/fstab.
    Thanks man, but
    journalctl | grep /dev/sr0
    Is empty as well.
    The fstab contains only root and home.
    $ cat /etc/fstab

    Hi, We are in the process of upgrade from 11.5.9 CU2 to R12.1.1. We are not on OATM model right now. Is it mandatory for us to convert to OATM before we start the upgrade to R12.1.1? I believe, its not, but wanted to confirm. Thanks Murali
