Audio CD's mount in OS X but aren't recognized by iTunes

Greetings. While attempting to import an audio CD on my iMac (G4, 17", Tiger), I noticed that the CD mounted in OS X, iTunes started as usual, but the CD didn't appear in iTunes. There was a flash of a dialog box (like when iTunes contacts Gracenote) but there is way to select the CD in iTunes. I tried it on my daughter's Mini and got the same result. I even tried a wipe and reinstall on my iMac and noted that I was able to see and import an audio CD prior to installing all the auto-updates, but afterword, the problem is back.
Anybody care to speculate as to what is going on?
Regards,

Thank's for your reply. I was able to import by dragging from the finder and that took care of my immediate frustration.
In addition, I was able to backtrack and locate the problem by process of elimination:
A few weeks ago I added an iPhantom inline to my LAN gateway and that seems to be the offender, even with security off. I took it out of line and all went back to normal.
I've put in an email to iPhantom's support line to find out if there is a fix (and interesting to note that iTunes won't recognize an audio CD -- I'm not talking about pulling info from Gracenote, I would have been happy just to see an audio CD and Track 1, Track 2, etc -- unless it can phone home to the mothership).
Thanks again.

My device appears in my Windows 8 laptop, but iTunes doesn't recognize the ipod. Done all the troubleshooting steps 3 times.  Used 3 different usb connections to try to sync.  Erased my ipod twice.  And reloaded itunes also.

  • My ipod nano6 connects but isn't recognized in itunes

Apple just replaced my first generation nano with a 6 generation nano.  Nice but after setting it up, I got an error message on my mac that it couldn't read the disk drive.  After that even after restarting, reconnecting, resetting etc.  when I plug in the nano it connects according to it's screen, but doesn't show up in Itunes.  It also won't accept the eject command.

  • Need to restore but iPod not recognized in iTunes

I have the black iPod Classic 80GB for over two years and now it's getting some problems:
First, after it synced it would automatically eject, then go into "ejected charging mode" if I left it plugged in. I thought nothing of this, really.
Second, when plugged in the iPod screen goes to the one where it says, "Connected: Eject before disconnecting," but does not appear in my iTunes or in My Computer under my iPod's name and its drive.
I unplugged and rebooted my iPod since it froze, then plugged it back in, but it just did some cycle of the "Connected", "Ejecting", and "OK to disconnect" screens, but it never disconnected, but instead went back to "Connected", then repeats.
Now I plugged it in again and iTunes says it can't play the files on it, so I have to restore it. Problem is, it doesn't show up in my iTunes at all! However, it shows up in My Computer.
    Help please?

If you're under warranty, exchange it! I did this today after appt at store, delted all apps and reloaded, with the same result. Technician informed me that Classics (I have 120GB) have a firmware issue that cannot be updated externally, so they exchange them with a new one.

  • I have a 3rd Gen Ipod Touch and it says connect to itunes but is not recognized by itunes. I have no other options. All that is on the display is the USB pic with an arrow pointing upward to the ITunes blue circle.

I do not know the operating system and I have no backup on my PC.

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.  Since you have chosen not to maintain a backup, Recovery Mode will result in complete loss of data.  Anything obtained from the iTunes Store can be downloaded again but everything else will be gone forever.

  • Ipod says "do not disconnect" but is not recognized by itunes

Okay so, I've connected my ipod to my computer and it's not being recognized. On my nano's screen it says "Do not disconnect" and has the red circle no sign flashing on it. I've updated my version of itunes, restarted my ipod, and have restarted my computer multiple times.
It can't be the USB because quite obviously it's working... it has to either be with my macbook or my ipod.
    What's going on here?

I am having the same problem and I tried everything to fix it. On top of that problem, my iPod won't turn off, and will only play half of a song and then skip to the next song which is very maddening! Can anyone help?
