Audio cleanup done in Audition not showing up in Premiere

Question

After having cleaned all the pops, crackles, breathing out of my voice over in Audition CC. I dropped the audio file into Premiere.
Then I realized that I had a little more audio cleaning to do, so from within Premiere I chose Edit in Adobe Audition.
Once the audio fixing was done, I saved the file under the same name, essentially rewriting it.
But now back in Premiere, I'm not hearing the final clean results.
I don't understand what's going on here. Is it because I should be using the filename "...Audio Extracted" rather than trying to rewrite the original audio file?
What am I not doing correctly?

So saving the cleaned up copy under the same name is a bad idea then?
there should always be an "original" unmodified copy of the file somewhere, to revert to if needing to undo changes made in audition.  this is why premiere makes a copy of the file on the timeline adding "audio extracted" to the file name, when choosing edit clip in audition. the new file premiere makes is where you should save your changes.
But let's say that I've made dozens of edits in my PPCC timeline to the voice over (A1) track (see below), if I were to click on any of the cut segments of VO-7 (voice over, chapter 7 of my film) to edit them in Audition, I suppose then that I'll get a new audio file for every cut segment of that VO-7 file? Correct?
yes, it will use the cut/edit points in the premiere timeline to make a new file, the audio extracted file. if this is a single long file, and you want to keep it that way on your hdd, you can right click, choose reveal in explorer, then right click that file and open it in audition. but again, only modify the file(s) on the premiere timeline directly, if its a copy of the original, or you have a backup copy of the original you can revert to. you always want to preserve the original recording file, unmodified.
