Audio/Click Box Issuse in Cap 4

Hello,
I am new to doing interactivity in Captivate, so I hope someone may have a solution; I have searched the forums and I cannot find a post concerning this problem.
Here it is:
I have a slide (recorded in full motion) that has an audio track and four click boxes. None of the click boxes overlap. They are all set to "continue" when the user either has a successful click or after a second unsuccessful click. The video pauses at the first click box, but the audio continues. Of course this causes sync issues from this point in the project until the end.
This issue does not surface on slides in the same project that have two or less clcik boxes (all settings matching). I am wondering if it has to do with the number of click boxes.
Any assisted would be appreciated.

I would recommend that you start by making sure you have Captivate 4.0.1 installed (Build 1658) You can check this by carrying out the following steps:
1. Open Adobe Captivate
2. Choose Help > Updates...
If that doesn't solve the problem and you are using Windows XP then you might also want to take a look at the web address I have included below. It is possible that your Windows Registry is corrupt or has incorrect permissions.

How to add an audio click box on a quiz slide - adobe captivate 6?

Hi,
I'm trying to add an audio click box on a question slide. It works brilliantly on normal slides but theres no option to add a click box on quiz slides.
I'm trying to add audio on click. So, when somebody clicks that area they will hear a sound. Is there a way to do this on a question slide?

Replace those old click boxes by shapes configured as buttons. Have a look at this post:

Audio Recording and Buttons / Click Boxes

Good morning!
I am just learning how to include audio in my Captivate
files. Here's my scenario. I'd like the user to be able to read the
information on a screen, then, click a button or a click box to
play the audio. I can record just fine, but, when I play back my
slide, the audio starts playing right away. I know I could move it
using the Timeline but it would be easier for the user to click
when they are ready to hear the audio portion of the screen. Is
there a way to do this?
Any help / information would be most appreciated.

The best solution would probably be the one you've
said you don't want to use - if I understand you - that is, to
pause each slide after the caption is displayed (with Fade-In set,
that would be after one-half second) and push back the audio on the
timeline until after that. You would need a click-box or button set
to "Continue" when clicked (to continue on the timeline to hear the
audio) and another set to "Jumpto" the next slide for those who
don't want to hear the audio.
But wouldn't it be easier on everyone if you just set the
audio to play normally and allow the user to click the "mute" if
they don't want to hear it? I am probably missing the point of
having (silent) audio ... (??) The combination (permutation) of
audio and text can be used a variety of ways, so there is certainly
nothing wrong with your idea but I'm just looking for an easy way,
I guess. Have you given any thought to going the other way, with
audio constantly available and text available as closed
captioning?? Just throwing out gremlins now for what they might be
worth . . .

Audio and Click Boxes

I was recently adding a piece of audio to a click box.
I want the user to click on the click box and have the audio play. However I found that doing this disbled the click box from being clicked. It would pause, but then I couldn't click it.
I set it so it was 'Pause project until user clicks' and I set the audio to 'Stop slide audio when paused' yet nothing worked. I then removed the audio from the click box and still the click box didn't work. I tried deleting the click box from the project and inserting a new click box and still that didn't work.
I started the project from stratch without adding any audio anywhere and it all worked fine.
Could someone advise as to where I could be going wrong?

I just ran into a similar problem (I think) and figured out what I was doing wrong.
In my case, I wanted a Homer Simpson "DOH!" to play when a person clicked on a certain area on the screen. Doesn't matter whether it be visible or not. The thing to remember is that the audio will play at whatever point you put the click box on the screen. What I was doing wrong was putting the audio in the clickbox itself. I had to put the audio in the secondary box. The box that says type success/failure/hint text here. You can insert audio into those as well.
So, my failure box is where I placed the DOH audio, and where I typed a big, red DOH for the text. I placed the actual clickbox in the place where I wanted to trigger those two things, and when the DOH text hit the stage, the DOH audio came right along with it.
I think that's more or less what you were looking for, and I was very pleased to find it that easy.

Click boxes cease working in Cap 3 project

Both in preview and in the published file, my click boxes no
longer work. They used to, but stopped and I'm pulling my hair out
trying to get them to work again. What happens is that I click on
them, and the action that is supposed to happen does not. This is
true regardless of browser (and, as I noted, they don't work in
preview either).
I have only four that are on the last slide of my project.
Two of them are "Play Again" (supposed to jump to slide 1) and
"Close" (lets slide continue to end of project where I have project
designated to close). The other two are click boxes that are set to
"send email to".
So far I've recreated them, I've created them in another
project where they do work and imported them, and I've deleted the
slide and recreated the slide from scratch.
It seems to be something with the project that is making any
click box non-functional.
Anyone have any experience with this?

One thing you may wish to examine is in the errant project,
what is the action assigned to the Click Box object? It's possible
that something caused the action to change from what it once was to
"No Action".

Navigation: stop automatic slide advancement with multiple click boxes

5.0 newbie question. I know I have a lot to learn about navigation before I develop another CBT, but I have done a beta test and found a situation I hadn't encountered before, so I am looking for help to get me past this with a band-aid until I can do this the right way later. I have read many issues about navigation and don't seem to see exactly what my issue is.
I am using the playbar for limited user self navigation, so all my slides have click boxes with "pause until the user clicks" properties. On some of my slides though, I have created pseudo-button like things via click boxes that popup email or browser windows (via Open URL). When I was testing these out, they worked as I hoped: opened the external window, but did NOT advance the slide. But I have come to realize that in my testing, I was always clicking on those buttons before the audio had completed and my testers are clicking on them AFTER the audio is complete. The behavior in the latter case causes the slide to advance (as well as correctly popup the external window). I don't want it to advance when the user selects that particular click box and they are not REQUIRED to click on that box, it is optional. It doesn't seem to matter how I set the properties, I get the same behavior. Suggestions O wise Captivate gurus?? ;^)

Edit Audio dialog box won't open

I cannot get the Edit Audio dialog box open -- I've double-clicked and right-clicked the audio in the timeline, tried the menu Audio > Edit > Slide..., poked around in Settings and Preferences but cannot find anything amiss in there.
I don't get any error message. Nothing happens at all.
I'm using Captivate 4 on a Windows XP machine, I've done a few projects before and never encountered this problem.
Any ideas??
Urgent help would be much appreciated -- have to get two project done in the next 24 hours.

Hi there
Try clobbering your preferences file.
Close Captivate
Open Windows Explorer
Navigate to the location below:
C:\Documents and Settings\*YOUR USER NAME HERE*\Application Data\Adobe\Adobe Captivate
Delete the file named captivate_v40.dat
Restart Captivate and see if the problem is solved.

Presentation converted from powerpoint not playing proper duration or recognising click boxes

Captivate 5.5 publishing a project coverted from a powerpoint, slides do not pause for the click box when published simply play for a second or two then move on? This is a presentation created originally in Cap 5 It worked perfectly. opening it to add some content and previewing in 5.5 is fine . only when and however it is published the slides do not wait for a click or play for set durations. Rather a random problem has anyone else encountered this and solved it.

That is a whole bunch of questions in a terminology that is totally different from the Captivate terminology. I was wondering if you even have tried at least one tutorial coming with Captivate to have some idea of the way it works? I'm sure you can achieve this in Captivate, am prepared to help but, sorry to sound a bit rude, this is a user forum, not a Captivate training place. You can meet other users here that will try to help you, like you could help others.
All can be done in Captivate, I try to suggest solutions:
For the 'slide list' you can use the Table of Contents, either in separate or in overlay mode, group the slides and collapse the slide groups; in that way the user will only see the group names and if you allow Enable navigation he can use this TOC for navigation
You can import Powerpoint slides, I do not understand why they should play in a box? Do all the timing in Powerpoint and when importing choose the option to play Automatically
You can insert slide video (there is a fine tutorial about it), and eventually resize it and add Text captions.
It is not clear where or what you want with the Text Captions, on individual slides or on top of imported PPT slides ... Of course you can add Text Captions, even rollover Captions/Images or whole slidelets with all possible combinations
You can publish to a SWF-file that will get an accompanying HTML + JS-file and upload those on a webserver, a LMS. Or you can publish to a multimeda pdf.

Sound with Click Box

Hi,
I have a series of photos on a slide and for each an audio
track. Currently using a rollover caption (minus the text) to play
the sound track. The client would prefer to be able to click on the
photo to hear the audio track. How can I do that? I have tried the
clickbox but it plays the imported audio as soon as the slide
appears.
Any help would be appreciated. As usual, thanks in advance
for the help!

Hi Gary
What you could do is change that Rollover Caption to a
standard caption. Well, sort of. Unfortunately there is no magickal
way of changing from one type of object and transmogrifying to a
different type of object. So you would need to delete the rollover
caption. Then insert a standard Text Caption and configure it as
you have the rollover. The trick here is that you would stage the
Click Box object so that it paused the slide at a particular spot.
Perhaps at half a second in. Then stage the invisible Caption with
the audio to begin at perhaps 0.6 or 0.7 seconds in. Configure the
Click Box to simply Continue (That's the default setting anyway).
The end result should be that the slide pauses, then after
your user clicks the Click Box, they hear the audio.

Yellow boxes behind all caps text

I had a Quark 6 Mac file converted to ID CS3 Win using Q2ID and when I opened it I replaced the fonts with our own, however wherever the text had the all caps feature used in Quark (I guess) there are yellow boxes behind the letters. I can get rid of them only by selected the text and clicking off the All caps (TT button).
Is there another easier way to keep them as all caps and get rid of yellow boxes?

Click box problem..loop to next slide without the command

Guys, I have a problem with my click boxes.
I'm using captivate 5.5.
details:
I have 4 click boxes
3 for hide and show objects
1 for go to next slide.
I have 2 slides only.
first slide has the changing view.
sample:
clickbox1 opens object 1 2 and 3 and triggers audio inside object 1 (working)
clickbox2 hides objects 1 2 and 3..shows 4 5 and 6 objects with audio also.
clickbox 3 goes the same process.
Problem: when I click clickbox2..it performs the action but maybe at around 1 second then proceed to the next slide. in which in the action, there was no command that say go to next slide or any.
the button for the next slide is on the 4 clickbox.
I'm using advance actions by the way.
I'm confused, this is my second time to do this..the first was working, what could be the problem?

Adobe Captivate 4 - CLICK BOX

Hi all,
I used to work on Captivate 3 but I passed to Captivate 4.
The problem is that now using the new Cap.4, when I assign a link
to a CLICK BOX (To open a another project) and press OK the link
seems fine but when close and come back to the slide I find that
the software had changed my link to another one. I rebooted the
software but the problem is persisting. Did any of you already have
this problem??
What should I do?

Hi there
When you use "Open URL or File", you specify just that. The
URL to a page. Perhaps
http://www.Google.com. Or a file
name as in SomeFile.htm or SomeFile.PDF or SomeFile.DOC.
When you use "Open other project" you generally browse to and
select the Captivate Project File (.CP) and Captivate sorts the
output type on its own. The big issue with Captivate 4 is that we
used to tell folks (in Captivate 3) to use this option and simply
ensure all the output files are in the same folder so that they may
find one another. Unfortunately this is no longer the case. For
example, if I place my project in C:\Projects\BoffoProject and use
Open Other Project, Captivate 4 now will expect to find the file it
is linking to in the same folder path on whatever PC it is copied
to. That's an unfortunate thing as you now will have to ensure you
specifically create that path to make things work.

Maximize browser using button or click box within SWF

Is there a way to maximize the browser the SWF is being shown
in using a button that executes javascript? What javascript can be
used?
Our training links directly to the SWF so that it scales
based on the browser size. I would like to make the browser start
out maximized or give the user a button to click that would
maximize the browser for them.
I've tried adding a button that ran javascript to maximize
the screen, but nothing happened. I don't know if it is bad
javascript, if I need to add more to the javascript, or it simply
doesn't work.
This is exactly what I put in the javascript section of the
button. The button is set to execute javascript on click.

now. Your particular issue is with audio. One thing you can do is
break the audio into chunks. Maybe even assign to objects such as
Captions.
You should also consider submitting a Wish Form alerting the
development team that a new option would be welcome. The option to
pause audio as well if pausing the slide using a Click Box or
Button object.

Is there a way to have TTS for multiple click boxes on same slide?

Hi all,
Using v.7 and Win 7 here. Have a project where I am using Paul's Text-to-speech TTS voice. So far so good. I need to build an interactive slide with mulitple click boxes so the learner can gauge where they are at in the projects progress. Is there a way to use TTS for these mulitple click boxes on the same slide? I see that you can import audio as an MP3 or .wav file but don't know how you would generate the TTS and save it seperately so it could be imported.

Just generate the TTS on a separate slide and then assign the audio file created in the LIbrary to whatever object you need.

Pause using Button or Click Box?

I have been trying to get a slide to pause in the middle
using buttons or click boxes. I can get the slide animation to
pause but the audio continues.
The only way I have found that works is to do considerable
editing to split the slide into two and make the button/box timing
end up at the end of the slide. This is a real pain. I have been
setting the "pause after" property in the button/box and it would
seem this should be a basic Captivate function but I cannot figure
it out. Please help!
