Audio clicking when exporting a movie

Hi everyone
I have synced some audio to a video which is just a little over 3 minutes in length. When I try to "share" and export the video to itunes or a QT file, towards the end of the movie at around the 3 minute mark, the audio start to click very loudly about 4 times per second, right up to the end of the movie.
Has anyone else had this problem, and if so, is there any solution?
Thanks to all
Angus Armstrong

go to export: and then use "Adobe Media Encoder"
this will allow you to save as many different file types, including .wmv
then you can do all your settings there.

  • Audio Delayed When Exporting To Camera

When exporting the movie to my camera, the audio is not quite synced with the video on the Mini-DV tape. I have determined the offset to be about 8 frames. If I then import that video, extract the audio, and then move it to the left 8 frames, it is then synced with the video again. If I encode the project with Toast after I have it synced, and then play the result on the Mac with the DVD Player, it is fine. But if I export it to the camera again, the audio is shifted again on the Mini-DV tape. I have a G4 dual 450 Mhz running OS 10.4 (the latest) with the latest version of iMovie and exporting to a Sony DCR-TRV900 via the firewire.

"..When recording it back to Mini-DV tape this way, is there a significant amount of loss of data even though it is coming over the firewire connection vs the normal export function?.."
No data loss, Gary. This is the proper way to export your edited movie.
You DO get data loss when transferring to a DVD, as a DVD is encoded differently from DV ..the MPEG encoding of a DVD involves compression of the data, leaving only information about the differences between frames of video, instead of keeping the content of all the frames.
You DON'T have any such loss when exporting ('Saving') back to miniDV tapes, as the exact same data which was copied from the tapes, when importing into iMovie, is sent back out to a tape.
There's no data loss, and there should be no audio delay. You can then import again from such a tape and there'll still be no loss. But re-importing from a DVD will produce data loss, as the decompression from MPEG to DV cannot completely rebuild all the data which was in the compressed MPEG data stream on the DVD.
So save your edited work back to tape, Gary, in case you ever need to 'reprise' it, and only create DVDs for sending through the mail, or to present your video with fancy interactive menus, or so that you can easily find particular 'chapters' in your video.

  • Did the update fix audio clicks on export?

I'm aware of the problems with Lion and audio clicks while exporting from FCP X.  Did the update fix this problem? I want to upgrade to Lion but not if it's going to screw up the project I'm working on currently.

For me, it seems its fixed...

  • Audio clicks when playback is stopped.

In the process of recording a couple of bass guitars that were Keymapped into sampler instruments, I noticed some strange audio behavior. While playing the new sampler instruments, finger lift off from my MIDI guitar controller was causing a clicking or sucking sound each and every time. (The recorded notes in Logic were allowed to decay naturally and the samples were not looped.)
So I went to the recording in Logic and sure enough, hitting the space bar or numerical decimal would elicit a click when stopping playback. A quick test recording was completed in Digital Performer with the same result. Also a quick test in Logic with the smallest and largest i/O settings. Same problem.
Recording signal into the Mac via Built-in Line input also produces the same clicking. So that removes suspicion for my interface (828mkll with Black Lion mod) which has been a rock-solid performer.
I have 5 GB of Ram. OSX10.5.5, 7200 RPM sata drives, etc.
Is this some sort of core audio issue?
    What to do???

Ok, I recorded each bass chromatically into Logic in real time (not triggering samples via MIDI).
The resulting audio files were opened in Keymap to be converted to an EXS24 sampler instruments.
The lift off clicking noise occurs with both basses but not with factory sampler instruments I play with the Godin LGX-SA.
The point about the spacebar or numerical pad decimal point is that when I use either of these to stop/start playback of the original audio file in Logic, clicking occurs. Uninterrupted audio playback is fine. Interrupted playback causes clicking which should not occur. While attempting to problem solve the funny lift off noise while playing the sampler instruments, I noticed that interrupting playback of the original recording in Logic caused clicking.
I recorded the same bass guitars into DP (not MIDI-triggered samples) through the same interface with the same clicking problem when audio file playback is stopped via the spacebar or DP keyboard commands.
So there are no MIDI messages involved here. The point of mentioning the sampler instruments is just that that was the when I noticed the audio problem. For simplicity sake, if we leave sampler instruments out of the discussion, I am still left with some sort of audio problem.
The same basses played and recorded via Built-in Line input causes the same clicking to occur during interrupted played back.
Somehow. the noise that occurs with finger release from the fretboard is related to the problem with the audio clicking when stopped during playback. Meaning that the audio file is corrupt in some way.
I followed your suggestion of unchecking both play tickboxes in the Sound Effects tab of the Sound preference. The problem still exits.
So in summary, at this time, I cannot record audio into my Mac without some sort of clicking problem when stopping playback. Audio that I record then causes some strange lift off noise or click when played as a sampler instrument. The base problem is that something goes wrong when audio is recorded into my Mac.

  • Audio Glitch When Exporting Movie Files in iMovie

I've split ambient audio from my footage and restriped a music track over. When I playback within iMovie, it's fine. But when I export the movie out, the are still remnants of the original audio in the playback. How do I get rid of this glitch?

Is it possible that you are running iMovie 09 (which is Version 8.0.6)?
There is a glitch in iMovie 09 where if you use sped changes (fast motion and slow motion) and choose custom percentages like 38%, 59%, 133%, it will cause unpredictable audio artifacts when you share.
THe solution is to change all your speed changes to one of the presets, like 25%, 50%, 100%, 150%, 200%, 400%, etc. These are the tick marks on the slider.

  • Problems with audio when exporting to movies

    Hi All,
I teach sequencing and one of the projects is to score a short piece of music to film.  Logic Pro 9 is great for this (though beat mapping isn't the most friendly of functions) and my students (most only 16-18 years old) have made some great projects.
Right the question is what are the best settings to use when exporting the audio to movie?  Some students don't get any sound when bounced or some are getting the oprginal with the new audio (doubled).
To assess and store student work we use vimeo for video projects and the wierdest thing is that when uploaded these bounces (the ones that worked) have no sound at all.
Never had these issues with Logic 8 and just wondering if anyone has any ideas on how I can resolve this?
    Thanks and happy new year.

I've used flip4mac for about a year and have had no problems with it. I mostly use it to export preview versions for windoze people. The quality is very good, though it takes significantly longer to export than a similar-quality quicktime movie.

  • Audio lag when exporting 90min HDV footage as QT movie via FCP6

Hy Guys I desperately need your help!
Ive exported a 90min QT movie from an 1080i50 HDV project in FCP6 & found that the audio progressively "lags" as the clip plays.
At the start of the clip the sound is in sync with the video but by the end it lags nearly 15 seconds behind the video!
The footage had captured perfectly & everything works fine in the timeline & is rendered properly.
I've checked everything I can think of (settings on timeline are the same as the export settings - audio rate is 48KH, 25fps in both etc (I'm based in the UK)but getting no joy at all.
Initially I exported the footage using the "export quicktime movie" option, set to "use current settings", as a "self contained movie", & un-checked "re-compress all frames" option.
(The intention ultimately being to import the file into Compressor 3 to produce M2v/Ac3 files & then import them into DVD studio pro to produce a PAL anamorphic 16:9 SD-DVD.)
Since that didnt work however, Ive tried all sorts of different settings for both timeline & QT export - the only thing I havent tried is exporting it totally uncompressed (should I use 8bit or 10 bit??).
I'm a bit wary of that as It will take 12-14hrs to do so & use up an awfal lot of space.
The footage itself is of an action horror feature - so LOTS of quick cuts, whip pans & transitions.
I'm using a brand-new rented Mac G5 so I have no idea what drivers of service packs have been added - but i think its pretty well serviced (its VERY stable).
I'd be really grateful If you can get back to me with a solution on this as - no joke - my Job relies on this getting solved PDQ !!!!
    Many thanks
    Mike

Exporting a self contained Quicktime movie does not cause any compression to the actual images.
When using QT movie export FCP copies each frame of your finished movie and create new ones out of any transition between original media.
Editing HDV can require extra time indeed as it needs to be conformed after you finish. I would try to send the movie straight from the timeline once rendered. If you want to check out the result why not copy a portion of the edit on a second identical sequence and send it to Compressor.
Testing is always a crucial part of the process.

  • Getting audio only when exporting to camera

Hello. I have exported many times before but when I recently tried to export to camera, I get audio only. I tried deleting the iMovie Preference file (which I had to do at times in the past) and then I got some video with audio at the beginning but then the video stalled while the audio continued.
The iMovie material (which I have already exported to DVD) that I am trying to export to tape is from a DVD which I had converted to DV through Toast and edited in iMovie if that makes any difference.
I'm using iMovie 6.04. Any comments will be appreciated.

    Hi, Rich,
I just select QuickTime from the Share option in the menu bar, not Export from the File.
It gives the options of Full Quality, CD-ROM, Web streaming and Email and Expert Settings. I always leave it as Full Quality. I just tried it now and when I select 'Expert Settings,' nothing happens until I click on 'Share,' and then I see the options of how to export and what format to use. Selecting Movie to DV Stream, I then have to change from the 'Most Recent Settings' to get the options of either PAL or NTSC settings for 32, 44.1 or 48 kHz...those are sound settings for audio.
Frankly, I find it much harder to do all these setting changes when Share to QT as Full Quality has always produced a great movie that is equal in quality to the original iMovie.
I have been doing it this way since the first iMove came out. It has always been known as a loss-less method. Frequently, my iMovies are complicated with many video and audio clips. With earlier versions, whenever iMovies became complicated, the playback would skip, stutter or the audio would freeze or become distorted. I learned from experience that the burned disks and disk image files would be fine, but it was hard to finish the edits. I learned to edit the video clips, add the still photos, transitions and titles, add just some audios if I needed a few seconds of sound under the still photos, and then export the movie as the Full quality quick time movie. Then, take that qt movie into a new iMovie and then add the audio. Worked every time. The new qt movie always played fine......unless I got too many more clips, and then I just made a new qt movie at that point. I also always use the qt version for exporting back to miniDV tape because the stuttering version usually would not export, or if it did, the stuttering would persist and ruin it.
    Good luck with your projects!

  • Is it possible to retain multiple audio tracks when exporting?

While ripping my DVD collection, I've wanted to add a purchased RiffTrax (see www.riftrax.com) to the movie as another audio track. I've been successful, but it took the following steps:
    1. Encode the movie using Handbrake, open the resulting m4v file in Quicktime Pro
    2. Also in Quicktime Pro, open the Rifftrax aac file I created and add it as another audio track in the m4v
    3. Save the m4v as a Quicktime mov file
    4. Use Handbrake again to encode the mov file into an m4v file, including my added audio track
The reason I have to do step 4 is because if I were to export an m4v file directly from Quicktime Pro, it would compress all of the audio tracks into a single audio track. It would save a lot of time if Quicktime could export multiple audio tracks, at least when exporting to formats that can handle them. Does anyone know if this is possible?
BTW, if anyone wants more details into how I create the RiffTrax aac, just ask.
    - Jake

I've answered my own question, it was a lot easier than I thought. After the first encoding by Handbrake, there's really no difference between calling it a mov file or m4v file. I can change the file extension at will and there's no need to do an export that mashes the audio tracks. It's only AppleTV that needs to see the m4v file extension, Quicktime and iTunes doesn't seem to care one way or the other.
Thanks for letting me think out loud.

  • Audio Problem When Bouncing to .mov

When bouncing my film to a .mov from Logic, the final QT movie has double, original audio.  This audio is the original from the film but I've sweetened it and want to use my version, not the original that I've muted.  Its only during playback after a bounce that I get both versions.
In my Logic session it sounds wonderful; just how I want it.  Furthermore, only one original audio track is in my bin and the video audio is turned all the way down in project settings.
Currently, I'm using Logic Pro 9.1.8 on Mac OS X 10.7.5
    Any help is greatly appreciated!

This is the normal (if unexpected) behaviour when exporting the 'mix' back to a movie in Logic. The original 'movie soundtrack' is still present in the movie file, and Logic assumes that you wish to include it. One of the last steps of the export to movie process is a dialog box where one has to actively de-select the existing audio tracks.
After that, the process will work as you want.

  • IMovie 10.0.1 audio distorted when exporting

    Hello,
I made a movie in the new imovie. When I exported the video to youtube, the audio sounded all weird in youtube, so I deleted it.
I tried exporting the video as a file to quicktime, same problem, audio was distorted. I read online that in iMovie 11, you had to edit the sound of the video in the advanced settings, such as converting the audio to ACC.
I see NO such advanced setting tab or possible way to convert the audio in the new iMovie. How do I fix this? The video sounds completely fine in iMove10 when I play it, but terrible on youtube and in quicktime.
    Thanks
PS: How do I normalize the audio as well? Again, no option anymore.

Hey did you ever figure this out?  This forum describes how to export the movie to quicktime with special settings and claims that it resolves the issue but my Imovie ('11, version 9.0.9) won't go through the export...I've tried at least 5 times...it starts and says it's going to take about 30 minutes and works for about 10, often as the clock goes up instead of counting down and then the window disappears and nothing has been exported....  I'd love to resolve this issue...it has only been happening to me since I figured out how to ask the audio to duck other tracks and tweak equalizer settings so it's gotta be something to do with the fact that either the equalizer settings confuse youtube it the .mov format it exports in on default settings (without the ACC tweak which I haven't found a way to do yet)...any new guidance? Trying to get this done yesterday!!

  • Having difficulty with multiple audio tracks when exporting

    Hi,
I am trying to export a couple of sequences to send off to a friend. I've tried sending it to iDVD as well as sending to print to video. When I play it on the computer as a quicktime movie every track is there for the audio ( 6)
When I print to video to a dvc tape. All 6 tracks are there. When I then tried to record to a dvd on a dvd deck I only have 2 tracks of audio. Same with iDVD. Is there a button I didn't push. Did I push a button I shouldn't have? These are the questions I need answered. What have I done wrong. ANY help or SUGGESTIONS would be greatly APPRECIATED.

    Bonjour Michael,
Thanks for the suggestion but when I did that I then had no sound. What did I do wrong. Is there another step?
    thanks,

    Hey, just like Windows 95.
What is your Preferences/Audio  I/O Buffer set at?  Might have to raise it to the next higher value.

  • Quicktime Pro doesn't hold audio levels when exporting (or "sharing").

I just upgraded to Quicktime Pro for one reason only: to add my music to an exsisiting video (that has it's own embedded dialog track) and posting to a webpage for review. Adding my music is easy. Setting the level of my music is easy. Saving and reopening with everything intact is easy. The problem is when exporting to another format. I've been choosing the preset called "Braodband Medium". It's the h.264 codec and AAC audio etc...
After the export, my music level has been "bumped up" to 100% - drowning out the dialog track. I've tried it on 3 different Macs with the same result. Does anyone else have this problem? It seems like a glaring problem that needs fixing.

    Confirmed.
Export your original two track file to your required settings (Broadband Medium), add (scaled to selection) your second audio track, make the volume setting adjustments (Movie Properties window) and Save As.
QuickTime files can have up to 99 tracks.

  • Poor quality when exporting to MOV (H264/AAC) with CS5 and CS5.5

    Hi there,
I need to export my HDV sequence (1440*1080 Pixel 1,33 25fps) using HDV footage only to MOV format (with H264 / AAC codecs).
I'm using 1024*576 (1.0) SD preset with a correct video bitrate CBR 6mbs and the Quality is awful.
When I use the H264 format ( to get a .MP4 file) with the same preset (1024*576 square pixel >> CBR 6mbs) the quality is quite good. I 'm pretty happy with that. The only thing is that my client (TV) needs the clip in MOV format (including H264/AAC codecs) and the quality is awful. They expect me to use FCP as most of the journalists here in France use this application.
    I tried with PREMIERE CS5 on a PC (windows 7 64 bits) >> 8G0 RAM, Dual Core
and with PREMIERE PRO CS5.5 on a mac
Same awful result when trying to export to MOV (H264/AAC).
I heard that PREMIERE can't properly export to this format? Is this correct? If so, i need to convince my client to use only MP4 (H264/AAC) files since I don't really wanna use Final Cut Pro or Media Composer to edit and export my clip.
    Any tips ?
    Thanks guys.
    Julien

I had similar quality issues exporting H264 from PPro vs. Avid Media Composer.  CHeck out this thread link http://forums.adobe.com/thread/854379?tstart=0.
I found it pretty helpful, it also links to another reference thread.
I think it's possible, but will take a bit of trial and error.
    Good luck
