Audio clicks when playback is stopped.

In the process of recording a couple of bass guitars that were Keymapped into sampler instruments, I noticed some strange audio behavior. While playing the new sampler instruments, finger lift off from my MIDI guitar controller was causing a clicking or sucking sound each and every time. (The recorded notes in Logic were allowed to decay naturally and the samples were not looped.)
So I went to the recording in Logic and sure enough, hitting the space bar or numerical decimal would elicit a click when stopping playback. A quick test recording was completed in Digital Performer with the same result. Also a quick test in Logic with the smallest and largest i/O settings. Same problem.
Recording signal into the Mac via Built-in Line input also produces the same clicking. So that removes suspicion for my interface (828mkll with Black Lion mod) which has been a rock-solid performer.
I have 5 GB of Ram. OSX10.5.5, 7200 RPM sata drives, etc.
Is this some sort of core audio issue?
What to do???

Ok, I recorded each bass chromatically into Logic in real time (not triggering samples via MIDI).
The resulting audio files were opened in Keymap to be converted to an EXS24 sampler instruments.
The lift off clicking noise occurs with both basses but not with factory sampler instruments I play with the Godin LGX-SA.
The point about the spacebar or numerical pad decimal point is that when I use either of these to stop/start playback of the original audio file in Logic, clicking occurs. Uninterrupted audio playback is fine. Interrupted playback causes clicking which should not occur. While attempting to problem solve the funny lift off noise while playing the sampler instruments, I noticed that interrupting playback of the original recording in Logic caused clicking.
I recorded the same bass guitars into DP (not MIDI-triggered samples) through the same interface with the same clicking problem when audio file playback is stopped via the spacebar or DP keyboard commands.
So there are no MIDI messages involved here. The point of mentioning the sampler instruments is just that that was the when I noticed the audio problem. For simplicity sake, if we leave sampler instruments out of the discussion, I am still left with some sort of audio problem.
The same basses played and recorded via Built-in Line input causes the same clicking to occur during interrupted played back.
Somehow. the noise that occurs with finger release from the fretboard is related to the problem with the audio clicking when stopped during playback. Meaning that the audio file is corrupt in some way.
I followed your suggestion of unchecking both play tickboxes in the Sound Effects tab of the Sound preference. The problem still exits.
So in summary, at this time, I cannot record audio into my Mac without some sort of clicking problem when stopping playback. Audio that I record then causes some strange lift off noise or click when played as a sampler instrument. The base problem is that something goes wrong when audio is recorded into my Mac.

What is your Preferences/Audio  I/O Buffer set at?  Might have to raise it to the next higher value.

  • Audio clicking when exporting a movie

    Hi everyone
I have synced some audio to a video which is just a little over 3 minutes in length. When I try to "share" and export the video to itunes or a QT file, towards the end of the movie at around the 3 minute mark, the audio start to click very loudly about 4 times per second, right up to the end of the movie.
Has anyone else had this problem, and if so, is there any solution?
    Thanks to all
    Angus Armstrong

go to export: and then use "Adobe Media Encoder"
this will allow you to save as many different file types, including .wmv
then you can do all your settings there.

  • Audio clicks when cutting up regions

Here's one that's baffled me for a while. Oftentimes, when I crop an audio region, there is an audible "click" at the scissored edge. When doing "stutter edits" a la BT, this gets annoying, not to mention sounding amateur-ish. My zero-point detection is on. I've been dealing with this since I was a Cubase user back in the 90's.
As a workaround, I've been using a combination of manual adjustments of the cut points and crossfading. I guess the question really is, am I missing something, or are those clicks natural and unavoidable?

that would do it on stereo files, the zero crossing has to pick one or the other "zero".
I have observed on some mono files though that you still hear an audible click depending on the material and if there is a significant jump in amplitude from zero. Small fades at the beginning of each slice can ease the pain a bit (a few milliseconds can work) without killing the effect. If you select multiple regions you can adjust all the fades at once by using the inspector.

    Hello
Simple problem - don,t know how to solve it.
With Premiere CC when I try to do a selection (click... drag... release the click) very often it stop way before the end of the move I'm swinging the Magic Mouse. I taught that the mouse clicking was defective and went to get a new Magic Mouse after lots of frustration. Today, I have an edit to do it it does the SAME thing !!
    I was like ????#$%?&*(???
Opened all the lights and taught I've trow the new mouse to the garbage and was using the defective mouse again... no !! - ??
Actually, the bran new mouse is doing the same thing. What I understand after investigating on the motion and watching carefully my fingers !! -  is that when I click I have to keep my finger at the EXACT same place on the mouse... drag and release and it's fine. If I click by pushing on the mouse and my finder is moving of a 1/32th of a millimeter, it will release and my selection will be to redo. You can understand my frustration ! - 75$ later... same problem, but I know that if I click with about 5 pounds of pressure and trying to pass my finger through the plastic of the mouse, it you stay steady and make it !
The problem is that scrolling is enable while clicking and it bugs.
    How to disable it ??
Simple question - can't find the answer !

    Helllooo !?
sorry but the Magic Mouse is just useless with the new Adobe Premiere CC and since I'm not the only one but can't find answer this is really disappointing. This mouse is just fantastic and now I have to swap from a USB mouse to the Magic Mouse every times I do some editing. My USB mouse if hurting my hand somehow and I want to got back to the Magic Mouse asap. Please - for sure there is a simple solution !
    Thanks !!

  • How to make audio playback auto stop

    Hello!
I am creating a widget for iBook that will be a cooking instruction step-by-step slides for the user to follow. I used the 'Gallery' object to create the slides so each step is a cell in the gallery, and the user can swipe left/right for the next/previous step. I also have an audio clip for each steps that's set to auto play.
My problem is that when I swipe from cell 1 to cell 2, the audio clip 1 does not stop playing even when the cell is not in focus, at the same time audio clip 2 is auto playing, and thus I am hearing overlapped audio clips.
note: I am using iAd Producer v. 5.0.1 and will be embedding the widget to iBooks Author v.2.2

If you had a Mac, you could take it a step further and add chapter like Audible does. I came across a a AppleScript called Join Together which uses a tool from Apple called ChapterTool. Basically, you select the files to join and run Launch Join Together from the iTunes script menu. A dialog box pops up allowing to set the Artist, track info, release year, Album, etc. It also lets you set the output bit rate, frequency, and stereo/mono. It will either output a .m4a file (music) or a .m4b file (audiobook). If you have Apple's ChapterTool install, it will have an option to add chapter names based ont he song titles.
Example: I have a dramatized version of the NIV Bible which wad a separate mp3 file for each chapter. So, it was broken into 1189 files:
    Song : Album
    Genesis 01 : 01 Genesis
    Genesis 02 : 01 Genesis
    Genesis 03 : 01 Genesis
    Exodus 01 : 02 Exodus
    Exodus 02 : 02 Exodus
    Exodus 03 : 02 Exodus
    Revelation 20 : 66 Revelation
    Revelation 21 : 66 Revelation
    Revelation 22 : 66 Revelation
After using Join Together, I now have only 68 .m4b files, one for every book except Psalms which I split into three parts (001-050, 051-100, 101-150). Now when I select oneof the books on the iPod, a list of chapters are shown except for r the 5 books that only have one chapter (Test: name the 5 books without looking them up. .
I in the proces of doing this for more books which I kept the individual chapter files like _Teach Yourself Norwegian_ (2 CDs) and two _Birding By Ear_ books (3 CDs each).
For some reason the Join Together script errors out about 10% of the time and I have to re run it. I haven't tried to troubleshoot the issue, yet. Also at the beginning when it starts to join the tracks, the script plays all of the files being joined all at the same time for about 10 to 30 seconds. What a noise that is!
    Enjoy life,
    Steven

  • Anyone else experiencing static "pops", "snaps" or "clicks" when clicking play or stop in Logic Pro X ?

I'm running a brand new 27 inch 3.4 GHz Intel core i7 iMac with 8 GB's RAM and Logic Pro X. A real irritating electrical "Snap" occurs every time I click the play or stop buttons or whenever I activate these buttons using the space bar. Is anyone else experiencing this? Is this a unique case or is this a concern to others as well. Botton line, how can I fix it? I never experienced this using Logic Pro 9.

Hah... thanks Pancenter! Sorry I left out some details about my situation. I've just migrated all my Logic 9 files/projects et cetera, from my old iMac to my new one. All I'm doing at this stage is monitoring my old work on my new iMac to continue my work using the build-in audio iMac speakers and/or head phone outputs. I'll emphasis that I'm only monitoring my previously recorded projects.
However, I'm just discovering that it is only the tracks where I have added a Channel EQ with the a strong gain asym turned up turned on. These tracks appear to be the culprits. In the case of aother tracks with no or normal EQ there is no "Clicking" or "Popping".
    Thanks for your input!

  • Audio pops/clicks when changing angles in multicam clips

I am having problems with audio pops/clicks when working with angle switching in multicam clips. it always occurs when i utilize any of the "audio enhancements" features, such as the loudness or background noise removal features. Switching angles results in audible audio pops. The only way to get rid of them is to disable the audio enhancements. This occurs regardless of the audio source. Is this a known bug that is being addressed? I rely heavily on the audio editing features in my work and am hoping this will be resolved in an update soon. Thanks for any help-

Hi Brad, thanks for the reply!
That sounds like a good workaround. What I have been doing in the meantime is create a new compound clip after I finish all of my cuts, and then apply the audio edits to the new contiguous audio clip in the compound clip.
What is really strange and frustrating is that all of my new audio bugginess really began when I could no longer detach audio from my multicam clips in 10.0.9... After doing many searches here, it seems that in this most recent update of FCPX this is no longer a 'feature'... I don't know why they changed this, but in older updates of FCPX you could detach audio from original clips, compound clips, or multicam clips with no problems. I would routinely create and edit all of the angle cuts in my multicam clips in the timeline, and then if I wanted to, be able to detach the audio and do more edits if needed. Thankfully I can still apply edits to compound audio clips, but it would sure be nice if I could just correct/enhance audio without ugly-sounding artifacts in multicam edits. Thanks again-

  • Strange Problem - iTunes audio clicks and pops when connected to internet

    Hello,
I have a very strange problem.
When I go to play a song in iTunes the audio clicks and pops. Not an uncommon problem I know, but here is where things seem to get strange.
I'm using iTunes on a laptop so I have a little switch which allows me to turn off my wireless adapter thus disconnecting me from the internet.
If I'm connected to the internet the audio clicks and pops but if I'm disconnected the audio plays smooth as it should.
The problem arrived out of no where i.e. no changes made to the laptop like installing drivers or programs.
I'm completely lost at what to do and after weeks of searching online I just had to ask to see if anyone here can help me.
    Thanks

Since writing this article I read that there is a problem with the airport update for tiger 10.4.11, which is exactly what I'm running. This is a pretty serious issue because I can't even listen to streaming music off the internet (via my firebox) without major clicks and pops. I wish I turned my updater of when things were stable

  • Playback abruptly stops when I sample tunes.

I have a MacBook Pro and an iMac with up-to-date software. Just in the last few days, I have noticed that playback abruptly stops on quite a few tunes when I sample them in iTunes. They don't stop in the same place. It could be after 8 seconds or 15 or 23, but playback stops on both computers. I have disconnected my modem and Airport Expresses and reconnected them with no results. Is anyone else having this problem and, if so, do you have any ideas on correcting this?

I feel this should be something the editor can disable. For example have a button on the toolbar that can be pressed that will allow playback to continue when switching away from PPro. Only if the editor experiences problems should the necessity arise to release the button causing PPro to use its current behaviour.
    Cheers

  • Music/clicking on iphone just stops when playing

My iphone 4s plays my music, but then will just stop playing.. also with the clicking when im texting will just stop.. it usually stops for hrs, so ill just wait til the next day to use it.. my phone will start off playing music then just stop.. maybe its burned out? ive only had the phone about 4 months

    Standard troubleshooting...
    1. Try a Restart by pressing the sleep/lock button until you see the slider.  Slide to power off.  Restart by pressing the sleep/lock button until you see the Apple logo.
    2. Try a Reset by pressing the home and sleep buttons until you see the Apple logo, ignoring the slider if, it comes up. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings.
    3. Remove all apps from Recently Used list...
    - From any Home Screen, double tap the home button to bring up the Recents List
    - Tap and hold any icon in this list until they wiggle
    - Press the red (-) to delete all apps from this list.
    - Press the home button twice when done.
    4. If still a problem restore with your backup.
    5. If still a problem restore as new, i.e. without your backup. See how it runs with nothing synced to it.
    6. If still a problem, it's likely a hardware issue.
