Audio clip names have disappeared

Hi,
I've just opened a project & all of the audio clip names have disappeared. I've tried deleting the waveform cache; deleting the preferences using FCP rescue; re-booting & zapping the P-Ram; and even tried opening up earlier auto-save versions of the project.
It only seems to apply to this project; I've tried opening other projects and they're fine.
Any suggestions?
Cheers

Neil Sinclair - you're the man!!!
thanks for that - this one had me completely tricked. I don't know how that selection got flicked over (I hadn't come anywhere close to touching it - I haven't opened that menu in a little while).
So, thank you very much!
Cheers
Andrew

My file names have disappeared in grid view. Thery have been replaced with a dark bar along the bottom of the previews. If I toggle using the command u it hide the bar but I still can't see the file name. In list view all the file names are OK.

The dark bar is caused by the option "Show metadata below image".
Check the settings for the metadata overlays in Grid view (basic and expanded) by clicking the little "badge" icon below the Browser and selecting "Edit". Is the filename still enabled in the list? And in a high enough position to have precedence for other metadata tags, if the space does not suffice to show all selected tags?

  • Why can you no longer see audio clip names in the timeline in CC?

This is very frustrating, so I'm hoping there's a solution. I need to be able to read audio file names within the timeline...especially music clips. Why would they remove this feature? Is there a way to get it back? And while I'm at it, why do you now have to expand the timeline tracks to be able to read the the track names? (I label all of my track names, but obviously don't want them all expanded just to be able to read what I labeled each track...that would be one fluster cluck of a timeline since I have a minimum of 10 audio tracks at all times!)
Thanks for any help on this issue! I just switched to CC v.8 yesterday and am trying to work out all the kinks.

Hit the wrench in the timeline and check Show Audio Names.

  • Merge clips and preserve audio clip names?

    Hey Guys,
I'm about to start editing a new project of mine that I just shot.  I used Premiere to edit my last project and loved it, save one problem I had after using the "Merge Clips" feature to sync my audio.  In order to save time, I used Merge Clips to sync my picture and sound rather than do it manually.  The feature worked really well, but I didn't notice until it came time to export my OMF that the "Merge Clips" feature had renamed all of my audio clips to the same name as the video clip it was sunc to.  This resulted in many broken links in the OMF.
Is there any way to use "Merge Clips" or a feature similar to it, that preserves the names and metadata of the master clips you're syncing?  I might just do it all by hand to be safe.
    Thanks,
    Joe

I do believe we've uncovered (yet another) bug. For the life of me, I couldn't get a video to sync to its respective WAV. The audio from both sources was clean and clear; if Premiere couldn't auto sync this, it couldn't sync anything...
Then the funny part: it could sync everything else together perfectly (DSLR, GoPro, HDV). I must admit I was impressed, GoPros record fairly horrible audio- but Premiere managed to sync them  accurately and quickly with the other cameras. It just treated the external audio as foreign and refused it.
Can someone from Adobe chime in? I'm here for questions.

  • Audio clip names not appearing in timeline

In Premiere CC, none of my audio tracks display the clip name.  The video tracks do just fine, but the audio tracks are just blank.  They play fine, but don't display the cip name.  I tried going through settings but nothing seems to fix it.  I've tried starting a new project with different audio clips but still same problem.
Running Premiere CC (with latest update) on Mac Pro running Mountain Lion.

From the Timeline panel, select the Timeline Display Settings (wrench icon)> Show Audio Names.

  • My contact names have disappeared

My contact names on my iPhone have disappeared in my messages and phone calls only the phone number shows?????

If with an Apple iCloud account, after confirming your iCloud online contacts are correct by logging in with your iCloud account with a browser on your computer, on your iPhone go to Settings > iCloud. Turn Contacts off for over the air syncing. If provided a prompt to save contacts locally on your iPhone, decline.
After confirming there are no contacts or no iCloud contacts available in the Contacts app on your iPhone, turn Contacts back on for over the air syncing with your iCloud account settings on your iPhone.

  • Video clip images have disappeared in the timeline

Hi - I was working away on an event in FCPX when I noticed that the timeline no longer showed any of the clip images - just the sound waveforms.  The video is visible on the canvas, and can be edited, but there is just a segmented blue nothing where the clip images used to be.  This is a new one - anyone experienced this before, or have an idea what's causing it?
    Thanks!

Thank you very much, Tom, for your very clear reply!  It worked using the Option-Command reset of preferences.  Interestingly, when I clicked on Close to shut down FCPX, this is what popped up. I have no idea what "background tasks" were being undertaken.  Although the app disappeared from the screen, it remained live in the dock and had to be force quit.  Do you think it's possible that some not-deliberately-invoked process removed the clip images, and if so, what it might be?  I can trip on a bare floor, but don't usually send an app off accidentally!

  • I purchased 2 audio books that have disappeared!

I purchased 2 audio books about an hour ago, one didn't download at all and has disappeared from my computer and iTunes all together. - though when I tried to re-purchase it was showing that I had already done so! The second audio book downloaded Part 2 and Part 3 but Part 1 has also disappeared from everything!
iTunes is showing no "Available Downloads" so i'm stuck & really need help!

Audiobooks are a one-time only download from the store. If you haven't got copies of them in your iTunes library nor on your backup of your downloads/library (and if you haven't moved countries since buying them and they are still in the store) then you can you can try contacting iTunes Support and see if they will grant you a redownload : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page

  • My folder names have disappeared?

Just recently, one of my folders I keep on the desktop, the name disappeared. I can't rename it either. Everything inside the folder is fine, just a bit strange having no name for that particular folder. Anyone know what I can do? Thanks
Sorry if this is a really simple problem to solve.

So rename it again to whatever you want.

  • Contact names have disappeared on iPhone 4 (iOS 7)

Recently the iMessage and Facetime toggle on my iPhone 4 had been switching itself to off under settings without me doing so. I had started getting a message asking me to login to iCloud on the days leading up to this, so I thought perhaps iCloud had something to do with the toggle switching itself off.
So I went to the iCloud settings and switched off contacts as it was the only thing I had on trying to fix this message problem, and immediately it deleted the names from my messages from people with iPhones and displayed only their number. I have tried switching it back on and off multiple times now, but the names do not come back.
The contact names are still listed correctly in contacts with the phone numbers, but when I send a message or receive a call I can no longer see the name.
Does anyone know how to fix this? I have tried just about everything I have seen online... restarting/resetting/deleting the messages/turning iCloud contacts on etc., but nothing I do makes the names come back.

And now it doesn't even back up through iTunes anymore

  • All my contacts names have disappeared after upgrading to the lastest IOS. How do I restore this? I can't find people names etc. I run a business and this is not what I expect every time a new ios or something from apple turns up.

I've had issues before with upgrades and now I was skeptical of doing the latest upgrade.
10.7.1..... **** I've got the  latest ios and it's messed my contacts up. Sticking all emails and removing some business contacts numbers so it's been a night mare to run for the last week or so. I don't even see which is important calls or not I just get "no number."
Anyone know a work around or must I wait for the next "upgrade/fix"?

    1.  Purchase your new hard drive and an external enclosure.
    2.  Put your new hard drive in the external enclosure.
    3.  Connect the external hard drive to your mac (FW or USB).
    4.  Use Carbon Copy Cloner (http://www.bombich.com/) to clone your internal drive to the external drive.
    5.  Take the new hard drive out of the external enclosure.
    5.  Open your computer, pull the hard drive out of your Mac.
    6.  Put the new hard drive into your mac.  Close it up.  Turn it on.  It should boot right up.
    7.  Put your smaller drive in the external enclosure and use it for backup, extra storage or whatever.

  • Some audio clips suddenly grayed out, waveform disappeared, not working

In CS6 on my MacBook Pro, I was all done editing several sequences and exported them via Media Encoder so that I could have video files to upload to the web. When I looked at the final video files that came out, 4 out of the 6 were missing the audio from the A1 track. I went back into the project file and found that the audio seemed to have disappeared from those particular sequences. The waveform no longer appears and it's grayed out. This is very strange since two of my sequences were fine and exported correctly.
I was able to double click the original audio source files in the project browser and the audio played fine from that. I took a clip from the source file and dragged it into the affected sequence and that particular clip's audio played fine too. The audio files are all .wav format.
I read other posts about similiar issues. I tried cleaning my media cache database. I also tried deleting preferences using Shift+Command when opening Premiere. I really don't want to have to go back and find all the audio clips and drag them in again!!

i'm afraid i don't have a useful answer for this one...
if the POD has level controls of its own (knobs, sliders, whatever), what you're seeing is generally the normal condition:

perhaps someone else has an idea why this worked before.

  • Audio clip issues

In testing my site, several people have had trouble opening it, it freezes, etc., one person said it appeared to be searching for something the computer didn't have. I'm guessing it has to do with audio clips I have on several pages. I've read through some previous posts on this, could someone give me the summary on what's the best solution for the Quicktime vs other audio players, etc issue. Bottom line is i really like having those audio clips in there; it would be one thing if some weren't able to listen to them, but if it's the cause for pages freezing and people not knowing how to correct it, that's obviously no good.
I'd appreciate any feedback. the site is www.5thingsonline.com
    thanks

As far as QT being a liability if the PCs don't have it installed they may not be inclined to install it so the audio will not be listened to.
You can add the audio to your page using flash players like the ones on this demo page: Audio Players. More players and examples of audio jukeboxes can be found at this page of Roddy's iWeb for Musicians site: Music Players. This way all platforms will be able to listen.

  • 'ghost' audio clips

Frequently when I edit audio clips in the timeline, the program creates strange nonexistent audio clips, that have zero duration and sometimes only appear in the timeline index.
I find this occurs most frequently when moving audio clips around in timeline, especially when working with grouped (command G) clips.
This becomes a problem when I am trying to see which order I have used music loops in and the timeline index is showing 'ghost' clips, messing around with my order.  Anyone else dealing with this?  Below is an image with an offending clip in the timeline:

I don't know how they came about, but it looks like you may have subpixel length audio clips
Unlike video, audio clips can be resized in smaller than one pixel increments

  • My keywords and compound clips have disappeared from Event

    Hi.
After a few weeks of working off of a portable hard drive, recently I hooked my laptop back up to my large external drive, where most of my video resides, and found that all my keywords and compound clips have disappeared from their Event. (I have only one event on that drive.)
This is DISTRESSING. I had originally imported a huge amount of clips into FCP X and spent days entering keywords. I also took a lot of time importing sequences from FCP 7 into FCP X as compound clips. These were important building blocks. Now they are all gone.
Looking on the web I've only found one instance of anyone saying this had happened to them, and it was because he had tried to duplicate his currentevent file in the file. I did no such thing. Really I have no idea what I could have done differently to make this happen. All I did was not use my primary hard drive for a few weeks.
Is there ANY way to retrieve all those keywords and compound clips? This is a NASTY surprise, a real blow. I walked around all night feeling depressed at all the lost work.
The other guy who had this problem said that he then used FCP 7 for a day -- and when he reopened FCP X all his keywords and clips had returned. He didn't know why. I tried leaving FCP 7 open all day today in case that would help, but there's no change this evening. Still all gone.
I then tried moving the currentevent file onto my desktop with a slightly changed name (--currentevent), renaming the file in the "backup" folder as currentevent, and opening with that. No better.
