Audio combo of 32kHz, 16 bit.

I've been browsing these forums for a couple of days and haven't seen this particular oddity.
The hardware:
20" iMac power pc G5 2GHz, 2 gig ram
LaCie 250GB external firewire HD
Canon ZR100
The software:
Tiger 10.4.6
FC Express HD 3.5
On a test, FCE captures a 48k/16bit clip with no problem (setup: dv-ntsc fw basic).
Other tapes that the camera's screen tells me have 12bit audio will capture with the setup dv-ntsc 32kHz fw basic and no settings mismatch warning. However, the waveform has a lovely pattern of vertical white stripes where the signal drops out and the item properties in the browser show the clip being 32kHz at 16bits.
I haven't noticed any conflict between the Canon and the LaCie.
I welcome any thoughts about this and apologize if this problem has been addressed and I've simply missed it.
Thanks,
B-

Thanks Tom.
From all that I've read, I was left with the impression that 48k went hand in hand with 16bit, ditto 32k/12bit.
The "white stripes" are a regular pattern in the otherwise gray waveform display where the signal drops to zero. With one waveform displayed above the other, it appears to be a vertical white stripe.
Anyway, thanks for the help on this, and for your numerous other posts.
Regards,

    ^sorry and thanks for editing

found the problem. In the Smart audio settings, the speaker "tab" has an option for classic stream, or multi stream. The multistream in its description seems to be for having sound independant in the speakers and headphone. It also messes up the microphone, perhaps combining the two (internal and external?)
Changing that to classic, enabled all of the cables to work properly. Woohoo!

  • Mac Mini 2011 HDMI audio in Windows 7 64 bit

    Hello all,
I thought I would share lessons learned from my Boot Camp install on a Mac Mini.
My config:  2011 Mac Mini 2.3, Intel 3000HD video
           .   .       upgrade to 8GB ram
Samsung 8000 series LED TV connected with HDMI
Memorex external BluRay writer(USB only power)
For Windows 7 install, I tried installing with the 64 bit DVD but this failed as documented elsewhere.
Instead, setup with USB drive, follow instructions available in bootcamp
After partitioning drive with boot camp and reboot, install Windows 7 with install wizard.
When asked whether to allow automatic updates say 'no', then complete installation and run boot camp tools for Windows.
Because the network driver gets installed prior to the Intel video driver, Windows will install the Windows Update Intel video driver which breaks HDMI audio.
When auto updates are off, the Intel video driver that is correct gets installed last.  HDMI audio works with this driver.
Apple should install the Intel video driver first and it would solve this problem.
I now have full blown 3D BluRay support on the MacMini with TruHD audio, fantastic!

    UPDATE:
I just discovered a good clue on my problem.
I always use my A/V Receiver to connect HDMI devices.
I tried connecting directly my Samsung TV to the Macbook and Intel (HD) Graphics Audio recognized the TV and a new "Playback Device" appeared in the Windows menu.
So the currently problem is that (just in Windows 7, since in OS X HDMI audio is working with DENON A/V Receiver):
Intel HD 3000 graphics is not detecting <Denon A/V Receiver> as an "HDMI audio-capable device"
My denon A/V receiver ( DENON AVR-1712 ) is sucessfull detected by my netbook with Intel G45 Express Graphics, but not working if i use Intel HD 3000 graphics on my MBA.

  • Garage Band Claims Audio Files Are In 8-Bit Format And Unusable.

I've used garageband to make my podcasts for about a year now, with no problems.
Sometime in March, though, there were two changes to my setup and I started noticing big problems.
The first change was the upgrade to 6.0.5 of garageband, which happened in early march. The second was that my harddrive was full, so i started saving my garageband files to an external hard drive.
The issue I'm experiencing is that when I load up a saved GB files (from the External HD), it will give weird errors, like, "The File Type Is Not Supported," and "One Or Multiple Audio Files Changed In Length," and "Garageband found 1 audio file in 8-bit format - the file is unsupported and cannot be played back."
When the error messages stop appearing, large segments of my podcast are missing, or the segments will be blank with no audio.
Generally, if I get my entire podcast done in one go without saving/reloading it, this is not a problem.
I've lost hours of work with this bug.
    Can anyone suggest a solution?
    Thanks.

  • CP4 just stopped recording audio (on Win 7 64-bit)

I know this has been addressed here and there, but I recorded a short webcast last week with minor audio issues (had to rename the dll file, etc), but after that, the program worked fine. Now, in wanting to edit the audio, CP4 is not recognizing the USB microphone. It'll recognize it once, but after that, it's done. Then, I'll have to go out, download the new dll file and rename it...only for it to work once during calibration again before not recognizing the mic during the actual editing. The microphone works in all other programs.
Yesterday, I also downloaded the CP4 patch, but that just did the same thing (recognized once before going away).
I've read that CP4 doesn't support Win 7 nor 64-bit, but I'm at a loss. The "support" line I called yesterday was an absolute joke. I was only hold for 90 minutes before them telling me that the microphone problem I was having was not a known issue and they had no suggestions. Then they gave me a number to call which turned out to be the number I had dialed in the first place.
I just ordered the CP5 upgrade, but I'm not 100% sure it'll work there either. Sorry for the rant, I'm just incredibly frustrated with the program and their support line right now.
Thanks for any help you can offer.

There are two different versions of Flash, the '''''ActiveX''''' version for IE and the '''Plugin''' version used by most other browsers.
1.Download the Flash Plugin version setup file from here: <br />
    [http://fpdownload.adobe.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player.exe Adobe Flash - Plugin version]. <br />
Save it to your Desktop.<br />
    2. Close Firefox using File > Exit <br />
then check the Task Manager > Processes tab to make sure '''firefox.exe''' is closed, <br />
    {XP: Ctrl+Alt+Del, Vista: Shift+Ctrl+ESC = Processes tab}
    3. Then run the Flash setup file from your Desktop.
    4. Start Firefox and test your installation here: https://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
    * On Vista and Windows 7 you may need to run the plugin installer as Administrator by starting the installer via the right-click context menu if you do not get an UAC prompt to ask for permission to continue (i.e nothing seems to happen). <br />

  • Sequence audio format stuck on 32-bit Floating Point

    Hi,
The audio format for all my sequences is set to 32-bit Floating Point when I check them in the browser's Aud Format field. When I manually change the format in the sequence settings nothing changes in the browser and choosing a new sequence set up doesn't seem to help. What I don't understand is that there isn't even an option for 32-bit Floating Point in Audio Settings. Anyone else experience this?
    I am using v6.0.6 on osx 10.5.8
    Thanks,
    Tom

16 bits per channel equals 32 bits stereo. Floating point means that you can, but don't have to, have a non-integer value for your audio.

  • Blu-ray Error: "file already exists", Code: "6", "Audio buffer underflows. Total bit rate too high

Hopefully someon can help me out here - I'm stuck in my tracks.    I'm reading through lots of threads on this topic, but don't understand what is going wrong here.    CS6.  Note: I have used Encore prior to put this material on a disc.  I presently have a separate sequence paired down with only about 1/5 of the whole production.   1920x1080i, 29.97, H.264 Blu-ray, VBR 2-pass, PCM inside PP to produce .m4v/.wav.  Here is what is confusing me - I tried a target of 10 and a max of 20 and I still get this error.   I have tried different max bit rate "Default Transcode" settings in Encore as well.    Note the time code listed "0.000000" - maybe that tells someone something.    I don't really understand Encore yet, so maybe it is something I set wrong in Encore vs. my exports?

There are many similar, but not identical errors. And I assume you had already followed John's advice to review older threads. It is true they never quite pin a single set of issues down.
What specific version of Encore? Updated to 6.0.2.004? Encore staff once said updates solved some of these errors.
You say .wav for source files in Encore. But what format in the project? ac3?
Your versiono f the error is different from other one I see because it has a "audio buffer" rather than "video buffer" underflow.

  • Early 2011 MBP audio combo jack in windows 7

    i've looked everywhere
    still no answer
we all know for a fact that the early 2011 15" Macbook Pro has a combo jack
works just fine under OS X where it will use the mic on the headphones when plugged in
has no one bothered writing a driver for this under windows?
we all know that there are drivers for other laptops that supports this EXACT same feature
    is there just no fix?

The 15" 2011 model does not have a 'combo' jack, it has seperate audio in and audio out (see picture) are you sure that you have the correct model described?

  • 24-bit audio files converted to 16-bit in Logic Pro 7

    Hello,
I'm working on producing my band's demo and this is my first project in Logic Pro 7. The tracks were originally recorded into a Fostex D2424LV hard disc recorder as 24-bit wave files, then imported into Logic. At this point, I've done the editing and effects processing in Logic and exported the tracks as individual wave files, with the intent to put the tracks back on the Fostex and run them through a Yamaha 24-channel analog board for the final mixdown.
Everything has gone smooth until now. When I play the exported tracks back on the Fostex, most of them are peaking on the meters, while the same tracks played back in Logic don't even come close to peaking. I've tried re-exporting the tracks with reduced fader levels and still get peaks on the Fostex.
Given that the reduced levels still cause tracks to peak on the Fostex, I'm suspecting a bit-depth issue. I didn't realize at the time that the files were converted to 16-bit when they were imported into Logic. The Fostex only works with 24-bit files and I'm wondering if exporting the 16-bit tracks in Logic as 24-bit wave files might be causing the problem.
If this turns out to be the cause of the peaking tracks, is it possible to re-import or replace the converted 16-bit files with the original 24-bit files and apply the editing and efx processing that I've done to the 24-bit files?
I'll greatly appreciate any help you folks can give me on this one.

i am very surprised that the fostex doesn't work with 24-bit files.
your peaking is not likely to be due to bit depth, although i can see why you might think so. maybe you're right.
logic has inbuilt -6db of head room you should know.
your suggestion of reimporting the original tracks from the fostex is exactly the thing you should do. remove the 16-bit files from the system and re-import the fostex files. open the logic project and it will look for the old files. for greatest ease make sure your fostex imported files have the same names as the ones you are removing. when it finds the files with the same name it should come up with an error message. select use anyway.
what's happening is logic stores information about the file, its length, bit-depth and so forth. so just get logic to use anyway and the files "should" playback alright.

  • Missing Audio mixed bunch 32khz and 48khz

    Hello,
I have an audio problem as well. I have been reading the MPEG questions but so far I haven't found what I am looking far.
I'm relatively new to editing. I edited a video on Adobe Premier Pro CS3. The volume for all of the clips was audible in Premier. Now when I transferredd to DVD, I can't hear some of the audio. Specifically, I can not hear the parts where I used the on camera mic. The hz for that was 32 and the hz for everything else was 48. Can anyone tell me if I can fix this problem without having to reshoot the footage?
I am working in Windows XP.
The original file is an avi. I set the audio preset to 48hz. I encoded as MPEG2 SVCD and then I burned a DVD-R using Nero. When I was burning on Nero I believe the audio setting in Nero was 44.1khz. I need this to be played on TVs. Can anyone help? Everything was going pretty well up until now.
    Thank you
    Carla

Do you hear sound when you play the MPEG2 SVCD file on your hard drive?
    Cheers

  • Audio file type handling.  "bit perfect" ?

We have over 16,000 songs in iTunes in the AIFF format. Most are in 16 bit with the 44k sampling rate.... the standard for cd's. Additional bit rates in the library are 24 bit with 48k, 88k, or 96k.... Does anyone know how the Apple TV handles these formats? Is it "bit perfect" or does it downsample, etc.

It appears that everything is resampled to 16bit 48Khz.

  • Audio combo jack Not Working

    Hello all
I have purchased a Combo Jack Splitter which is like this one:
    http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/image/serverpage/image-id/169i7439D0FCBFE8A695/image-size/medium?v=mpbl-...
I have made sure it's a 4 segment type of combo jack. I have an external microhpone 3.5mm 3segment that clips onto the headphones which is also a 3.5mm 3 segment jack.
The combo jack works fine on other PC's, the Microphone works fine on other PC's. However on my lenovo edge E520, it simply says that the device is not plugged in (microphone) (the headphones work fine with the combo jack just not the microphone)
Any ideas of what to do? I have tried reinstalling drivers. Any adivce will be good.
    Cheers.

I'd just like to make an update,
If you plug the combo jack ion 3/4 the way, it detects the microphone, but the headset and microphone are pretty crappy quality.
    Any Ideas?

  • No audio in Winows 7 64 bit

The volume task bar icon says that it is working, and there is a green bar indicating that there is sound when I try to change the volume. However, no sound will come out of the speakers or headphones. A red light is shining in my 1/8" audio jack. I have installed the drivers from the OSX install disk. I have also downloaded and installed Realtek drivers and the drivers here: www.technews.biz/gadgets/apple/macbook/Vista_R208.exe, and none of these have helped. Does anyone know how to get the sound working?

Finallly!...and thank you to the various people who obviously gone throught this and left advice. The tip from the Hatter above, the realtek driver worked for me
