Audio configuration problem in iTunes

I am running iTunes 7.1.1.5 (WinXP). When opening iTunes, I get an error message that there "are problems with your audio configuration." In iTunes support, I followed instructions to remove Quicktime then reinstall as standalone (without iTunes). Same problem persists. I will add that same problem occurred about a month ago, but that time the same steps of removing Quicktime, then reinstalling as standalone corrected the problem. Unfortunately, it recurred.

  • Itunes can't run bc of audio configuration problem

Well I've been using itunes for about 2 years now and just recently i installed the newer version. It was working fine until today when my computer told me ther was some kind of computer error and that i should do a system restore. So i did a restore to about 2 weeks ago which was before i updated my itunes. And then i was getting the message that my itunes was missing files and could not run. So i ran a repair on it and still got the same error. Then I deleted it adn reinstalled and I got the error "Itunes cannot run because it has detected a problem with your audio configuration.
So then I undid the system restore and tried itunes to see if it would work. And I was still getting the same message that itunes cannot run because it has detected a problem with your audio configuration. So then I uninstalled it and reinstalled it and still getting the same message.
Can someone help me out? What problem would it be with my audio configuration? I haven't changed anything. Is there something i can adjust to fix the problem? I'm clueless....

the message is typically produced by a problem with your QuickTime. (itunes uses QuickTime for audio and video playback.)
perhaps let's start with the following document:
iTunes 7 for Windows: iTunes had detected an audio configuration problem
... but if no joy there, try this alternate technique for swapping out your QuickTime:
head into your Add/Remove programs. uninstall QuickTime.
Next, we’ll manually remove any leftover program files and folders.
    1. On the Start menu, click My Computer (or double-click My Computer on the Desktop).
    2. In My Computer, open Local Disk.
    3. Open Program Files.
    4. Right-click on the QuickTime folder and click Delete from the shortcut menu.
    5. Navigate to C:\Windows\system32\.
    6. Remove the files QuickTime.qts and QuicktimeVR.qtx.
    7. Restart your computer.
next, we'll get a fresh copy of QuickTime into your PC by doing a repair install of itunes.
switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the repair install.
go into Add/Remove and select itunes. click "Change" and then click "Repair".
if the repair install goes through okay, restart the PC and try launching itunes again. does it launch properly now?

  • Audio Configuration problem detected after install

During the download of the new ITunes version I had a major power failure. I went back and completed the download and after the installation I got an error message that ITunes could not be opened due to an audio configuration problem detected. I went to the Apple site and downloaded a new version from scratch and after the install I got the same audio error. Any Suggestions?

  • Itunes starts but fails to open due to audio configuration problem

    Hi
I have been running itunes 7.1 quite successfully until today. Running on windows xp/toshiba laptop.
Problem occurs when i select itunes on desktop, itunes appears on task bar below, after a number of seconds the following error message appears "itunes cannot run because it has detected a problem with your audio configuration", once I click ok on this message itunes terminates.
No changes have been made to my audio configuration (to the best of my knowledge), i can run Windows Media Player and that works fine, so too real player.
I reinstalled itunes, but this did not resolve the problem. I also ran itunes from another logon on my laptop and that presented the same error. I checked all my audio settings in the control panel and also ran the diagnostics on each device and all appears to be fine.
Has anybody faced the same issue, and could anybody advise on any diagnistic tool that could assist in pinpointing the configuration problem?.
    Thanks

    Hi
Got it resolved, thanks for the prompt responses all!.
Resolved by removal current version of Quicktime thru the control panel (add/remove programs), and then reinstalled from the website.

  • ITunes cannot run because it has detected audio configuration problem?

I've got Windows XP, recently did a system restore and was forced to re-install iTunes afterwards. After installation, I click the iTunes icon and get a pop up "iTunes cannot run because it has detected a problem with your audio configuration." I went to the iTunes support page and found a similar trouble shooting scheme. I applied both options and both failed. I tried re-installing again to repair, but after the repair, the problem still remains. I found a major difference in the trouble shooting scheme however and I wander if that could be it. The web page shows quick time's audio channels as "Stereo (L R)", however my quick time control panel doesn't feature that channel. Instead, there are 7 "LayoutTags" to choose from, each containing 7 digits. I'm no computer whiz, so I'm going to need help on this one.

hmmmmm. it's sounding like you've still got a damaged version of QuickTime in the PC. (or at least, there's something going wrong with the quicktime.)
let's try swapping out the QuickTime again. we'll take a few additional explicit precautions this time.
Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. then use it to clear any existing QuickTime installation configuration information from your PC:
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
Next, we’ll manually remove leftover program files and folders.
    7. Restart your computer.
next, we'll try to get a fresh copy of QuickTime into your PC by doing a repair install of itunes.
switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the repair install.
go into Add/Remove and select itunes. click "Change" and then click "Repair".
if the repair install goes through okay, restart the PC and try launching itunes again. does it launch properly now?
if it doesn't launch properly, are you still getting the unusual display effects in the QT preferences?

  • ITunes won't start (audio configuration problem)

    Hi all,
I have been using iTunes for a few months without problems.
Last week, all of a sudden, it gave me an error message every time I tried to open it: "iTunes cannot run because it has detected a problem with your audio configuration".
I don't know what happened as I didn't do anything to the controls in my computer. The only thing is that I downloaded a video from Google, and this prompted me to download the Google Video Player, now installed in my computer.
Could this have anything to do with the audio configurations? How can I reset them to their original state so I can use iTunes? Should I uninstall the google player?
Thanks a ton for any help and sorry for the long post.
    Juan

  • Problem with my audio configuration that keeps iTunes from starting.

When I tried to run iTunes on my computer this morning, it said that iTunes was missing files or something like that. But that's not the problem, although that happens often, I know how to fix it. So I went and ran the repair for iTunes, but now when I try to run iTunes, it says, "ITunes cannot rune because it has detected a problem with your audio configuration." This is the first time that's ever happened, and I've reinstalled iTunes a couple times since then. Okay, like seven times, but I keep getting the same error message. I know that I haven't ever changed my audio configuration, but I don't know what to look for, or what to do. I'm pretty much at the end of my technological knowledge, as limited as that is, now, and I don't know how to fix it. It is quite aggrivating, I just imported about 30 CD's just last night, and I need to burn some CD's for my friend. I am attempting, yet again, to download iTunes, if it by some random intervention of God it works, I'll say never mind my ranting.

Click on Start, the go to All Programs, go to Quicktime and uninstall it.
Then go here, download and install quicktime 7.2
    www.apple.com/support/downloads/quicktime72forwindows.html
    Try to launch itunes.
Let me know how it goes.

  • "Audio configuration problem" on one machine, not the other

I have a laptop and a desktop both with Vista Home Premium SP1. I have ITunes and Quicktime on both. I can run ITunes on the desktop without getting the "audio config problem" message, but on the laptop (Toshiba Satellite A215-S5837) I have tried the fix (uninstall and re-install QT) with no luck. At first I thought the problem was fixed, but after turning the machine off and back on, the problem is still there.
    Any help?
    Thank you,
    Dave

Unfortunately, the noir household Vista box is in a different hemisphere from my current location (it's in North Carolina), and I can't doublecheck the way that the Audio control panels are set up on Vista.
... but in XP, the first thing I would check on with a recalcitrant "audio configuration" error would be if the correct default device was showing up in the "Sound playback" area of the "Audio" tab of the "Sounds and audio devices" control panel.
Can you find such a location in your Vista control panel on the PC getting the "audio configuration" error?

  • ITunes has detected an audio configuration problem ????

I was getting the above error (see subject) when starting iTunes but iTunes still started after the error-message.
Then I followed these directions (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304424) and now iTunes refuses to start at all !!!!!
What's going on and how do I solve this without losing my iPod music library and settings ??
    PLEASE HELP!!
    /B

I have the same problem and I know that it is due to my PCI Audio driver not being compatible with WIndows 8.1.
iTunes isn't the only program that can't direct sound to the built-in speakers anymore. The obvious solution would be to update the drivers, but unfortunately Dell does not provide an updated driver for my model, so I am stuck with that.
However, saying that, only my laptop speakers are affected by this. I can use sound fine on applications where I can choose the output device and direct sound to the head phones, but for some reason iTunes does not let you choose the audio device manually.
To listen to music I imported the iTunes Library in Windows Media Player and changed the audio output using the following instructions: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/c00d11ba
However, I would also like to rent movie's from iTunes,
Would be great if iTunes would let you choose the output device, too, like most other applications using sound  from Skype to Windows Media Player,...
