Audio crackle, using Elements 12

I have a crackle in my audio. I was using a hand held mic, and the subject held it close to her mouth and spoke loudly. She is the only one out of 5 subjects for the video in which I got a crackle. I have tried denoiser, reducing and offsetting as much as it will allow, but to no avail. I think a decrackler effect would work, but it's not available in my Elements 12. Is it there, and I'm blind? Or, can I add it?

There is no DeCrackler Effect in Premiere Elements that I have ever seen as there is in other programs, like Premiere Pro

Just saw your thread, and it looked like a candidate for the Premiere Elements 10 NVIDIA GeForce Roll Back the Driver issue. If your computer uses a NVIDIA GeForce video card/graphics card, then the following applies to you. You do not want to update the driver. Rather you want to roll back the driver version, probably to about May 2013. For your convenience I have done a copy/paste of the forum announcement which gives all the details and fix of the matter.
Premiere Elements 10 NVIDIA Video Card Driver Roll Back
If you are a Premiere Elements 10 user whose Windows computer uses a NVIDIA GeForce video card and you are experiencing Premiere Elements 10 display and/or unexplained program behavior, then your first line of troubleshooting needs to be rolling back the video card driver version instead of assuring that it is up to date.
Since October 2013 to the present, there have been a growing number of reports about display and unexplained workflow glitches specific to the Premiere Elements 10 user whose Windows computer has a NVIDIA GeForce video card. If this applies to you, then the “user to user” remedy is to roll back the NVIDIA GeForce video card driver as far as is necessary to get rid of the problems. The typical driver roll back has gone back as far as March – July 2013 in order to get a working Premiere Elements 10. Neither NVIDIA nor Adobe has taken any corrective action in this regard to date, and none is expected moving forward.
Since October 2013, the following thread has tried to keep up with the Premiere Elements 10 NVIDIA reports

Older NVIDIA GeForce drivers can be found

    http://atr935.blogspot.com/2014/02/pe10-nvidia-video-card-roll-back.html
This matter has been very specific to the Premiere Elements 10 NVIDIA GeForce card user. So, if your computer is using other than a NVIDIA GeForce card, it is likely that the message does not apply to you, and we can then explore other troubleshooting possibities.
Looking forward to your follow up. Do not hesitate to ask for clarification on anything written here.

  • No longer audio on .avi files when attempting to use Elements 9

I have compiled 20 years of videos from family videos and converted them to .avi files.  I now want to edit these files into other smaller videos to give to my children.  I have Premiere Elements 9.  When I get one of these files using PE9 there is no longer audio on them.
There is audio if I play them on Windows Media Player but no audio on Quicktime Player.
I can edit in Windows Movie Maker but not in PE9.
The Quicktime Player states the following:
Format: Motion JPEG Open DML, 640 x 480, millions
    Movie FPS 29.97
    Playing FPS 29.97
    Data Size 1.94 gb
    Data Rate 8.67 mbits/sec
    Normal Size 640 x 480 pixels
    Current Size 640 x 480 pixels
I have a Dell Inspiron 530, 4.0 gb RAM, 32- Bit Windows Vista system.  Plenty of Hard Drive availability.
I purchased PE9 because I thought it would be superior to Windows Movie Maker.  Very frustrated.

    Hi Bill,
The .avi file is a compilation of videos from multiple cameras from over the years.  There is no 1 camera.  That is why I am confused here.

What camera produced the MJPEG files, wrapped in the AVI container? The reason that I ask this, is because camera mfgrs. love to tweak CODEC's, and some take that tweaking to an extreme. If you have the utility disc, that came with the camera, it is probably best to install their particular version of the MJPEG CODEC. The Morgan, or the MainConcept might work OK, but having the exact version, from the camera mfgr. will get you as close, as is possible, and will save having to buy an MJPEG CODEC, that might not be perfect. Now, on that utility disc, one might have one of three possible choices: The MJPEG CODEC might be a separate installationThe MJPEG CODEC might install along with the camera's driverThe MJPEG CODEC might install with an included editing/cataloguing program (most common nowadays), and even if you do not use that utility, having the proper version of the MJPEG CODEC installed on the system, will get you as close, as is possible Good luck, and let us know if you have the utility disc for that camera. • How do I fade out audio in Premiere Elements 13?

HOW DO I FADE OUT AUDIO IN PREMIERE ELEMENTS 13?

    ATR
    Thanks for answering,
im moving slowely forward in speeding up making presentations by using the new discovered smart tricks or functions.
So you understand my level of expertise:
This step by step production methode im using now give's me controle without the (full) knowledge of all the (smart)functions in this program.and slowely learning the way arround.
starting a project:  a mix of photo's and avi's, starting with manual time line filling with the selected files then the timesaving "Standard crosover on all selected".
second: placing a header with the titel at the front and a ending a the end. (cut al the wrong or bad pieces and extend some photo viewingtime if needed.)
And then adding subtitels/tekst and use some other crosovers to highlight the change of subject or stills to movie.
And at last: placing the background music on "soundtrack": after some fiddeling around ive choose to cut the musictrack between the avi's instead of let the music play all the time and adjust the volume down to zero when a avi is playing.
    this have two advantages:
    1)  the songs can be streched by  by cut and jumping to the end of the avi soundtrack. (no loss of music through fading out and still let it play so need less musicsongs.)
    2) And the rightclick fade function with the standaard fadingtime => "fade out" and "fade in" is easly to use because of the end track avi and begin track music timeline. (And if needed lowering the fading slope/ extend the fading time by moving the "points" on the audio line)
But; its a lot of work and after the first run through the presentation(or watching on TV) and there is a adjustment needed (fadingtime, volume-changes) you have to adjust every bit of the soundtrack. (keeping the volume "feeling" the same is the  difficult part.)
I will read about the Smart Mix function and test  it on a other project. see of its fits my kind of using and expertise. (every automatic (smart) function needs understanding of its purpes and limitations and there are a lot of them in premiere
What is in your opinion the most effective way of adjusting volume of audio parts across the hole project so its merged in to one audio/soundlevel?
(and offcourse in the hole way of building the presentation.)

  • Trouble with DV Type 2 AVI audio in Premiere Elements 11

Please see the two screen captures below.  G-Spot says my clip is DV Type 2 AVI which Premiere Elements 11 supposedly handles well.  G-Spot says both the appropriate audio and video codecs are available on my Windows 7 x64 PC.  Main Concept DV codec is installed.  The camera was a Sony Handycam vintage 2000 and the clip captured by Firewire.
When I load the clip into Elements 11, the audio is compressed in length relative to the video.  I get about 11 seconds of high pitched warbling and then no sound for the balance of my 67 second clip.  You can see the audio profile flatten after 11 seconds in the Timeline view.  I do notice that the audio preset for Elements is 48000 sample rate, and my clip is at 44100.  If this is an issue I do not know how to fix it in Elements.
The clip plays fine, audio and video properly synced, in Windows Media Player and AVS Video Creator.
I am able to use AVS Video Creator to strip the audio from the clip, output it as a .wav file, and use it to replace the audio track in Elements. However, I have hundreds of clips to edit; this method will cause substantial brain damage.
Is there something I can do to get Premiere Elements 11 to process the audio properly?

    Harmon,
    Great news!
Not sure why that other app. would Encode the Audio to MP3, as that is non-standard (though MP3 is a fairly common format/CODEC - just not in a DV-AVI).
Sorry to hear that you have that extra step, with those particular DV-AVI's, but at least you do have a workaround for them.
Not sure if you will be outputting to DV-AVI, but if you do, the Audio choice would be that of the DV-AVI files that do work - PCM/WAV @ 48KHz 16-bit. That will create files, that are about as "plain vanilla," as it gets with PrE.
    Good luck and happy editing,

  • Audio Crackles & Pops in disk burned by iDVD

I videotape using my Sony HDV camera (1080i), and import directly into iMovie06 HD. From what I've read on these forums, that is the best way to keep the full quality HD video. I edit my movie and close iMovie. Then I open iDVD, choose a theme, and drag that movie in. I don't add any other transitions, etc. Then I choose "Best Quality," and burn the DVD. When I play it in my Panasonic Blue Ray DVD player the audio crackles and pops--it's terrible. What happened? What can I do to fix this so that the audio quality is as good as it sounds on the HD videotape or on the Mac.

Hmmm. Crashing isn't good, but no harm to try again with Pro.
iDVD's Preview isn't always accurate, but do you hear anything there?
Burning errors wouldn't typically present themselves as crackles/pops, but high quality discs are recommended (Verbatim DVD-R discs are often suggested; I like Sony as well) as well as breaking down the burning process into two steps:
    1) from iDVD, create a virtual DVD by using Save As Disc Image. Test this by mounting the disc image and using Apple's normal DVD Player to play it on your Mac (try just double-clicking the image file).
    2) If it plays correctly, Copy the disc image to an actual DVD using Roxio Toast or Apple's Disk Utility.
It's good to have a substantial amount of hard disc space available (10-25 gigs) and I typically quit from other applications so iDVD can have max resources available.
All the audio work in iDVD is behind the scenes and there aren't any special audio controls.

  • Audio Dropout in Elements 8

Just started using Elements 8.  Imported a short video from Panasonic SDR-S26 which produces MPEG-2.  After a few seconds the sound disappears completely. The sound is there when I play the video in Windows Media Player. Any ideas?

When you did the Import, did you allow PrE to finish the Conforming phase? Depending on the speed of one's computer, and the Duration of the Clip, this can take some time. This is a necessry phase, and must be allowed to compete. There should be a small progress window (do not know where it is on PrE 8), and all operations should be allowed to compete. This process does two things for Audio - it converts the Audio to 32-bit floating point for editing (.CFA file), and creates the .PEK file, which is the Waveform Display. For MPEG-2 footage, there is also the Indexing phase, that basically converts the footage to full I-frame for editing.
Now, in your Clip, when you look at the Waveform (Audio Track), do you see a full display, or is it flat-line?
    Good luck,

  • Audio Crackle

    Hi folks,
I've been reading about audio crackle with Logic Pro 8 & firewire devices, but haven't seen any exact answer to my issue so here goes
    The issue:
    * I get an audio crackle, most often when I overdub
    * the crackle can be small pops all the way to noisy crackle/static
    * it's worse when I'm overdubbing on top of previous tracks, that is I lay drums (7 tracks) then overdub guitar and the guitar almost always gets behind the beat and the crackling begins
    * the crackle is in the playback track
    My setup:
    * Mac OS 10.5.5
    * per Mackie, went back to the Apple 1.2.2 firewire driver (this solved the more severe issue of intolerable stuttered playback)
    * Logic Pro 8
    * Mackie Onyx 1200F firewire preamp/converter
    * iMac 24" Intel Core 2 Extreme (2.8 GHz); 2 GB RAM
    * session runs on separate G-Audio 7200 500GB drive via firewire
    What I've tried:
    * turned off airport
    * turned off time machine backups
    * session on separate drive
    * I/O buffer at 64, 128 & 1024
    * put all plugins in "bypass" mode
    * selected I/O Safety Buffer (then switched it off)
    * Plug-in Delay Compensation - set to "all"
    * 44.1 sample rate, then 48, now back to 44.1kHZ
Basically, I'm running out of ideas. It seems like I have a dedicated fast computer and the session on a separate drive. The internet and backups are turned off so as not to tax the processor. I watch the little CPU and Hardrive meters in the lower toolbar of Logic and they never seem too hot. I've played around with all the buffers (although I'm not totally sure I'm clear on the philosophy here).
    So, my theories are:
    1) it's the firewire driver thing -- just nothing to do about it until Apple fixes the firewire driver software in the future -- but I've heard plenty of people getting the Onyx 1200F to work with the correct 1.2.2 driver and I don't seem to be doing anything too taxing with the software and Onyx
    2) buffers or plug-in delay are set incorrectly
    3) maybe firewire 800 is faster and better than 400 (which I'm using) - but someone told me to use 400 over 800. Thoughts?
    4) I'm making some basic error that I'm unaware of
Any ideas out there or things to try? When Logic and the Onyx 1200F work together it's a beautiful thing, but the audio crackle and latency when overdubbing makes it kind of unworkable.
Okay -- suggest away. I've searched the forums and seen suggestions that half-applied but nothing quite addressed my questions. Thanks!

A user from the Mackie forums emailed me with a solution. It's a basic workaround that is so simple it's hard to believe it works. Here goes ...
    1) in Mackie's Console software > Settings > Sample Rate - change the sample rate from 44.1 or 48 (whichever you're using) to 96kHz
    2) the 1200f will shutdown and restart (takes 30 seconds) - now change the sample rate back to 44.1 or 48 (whichever you're using)
    3) the 1200f will shutdown and restart again
That's it. You should experience no more clicks, crackles or distortion.
Based up on my initial post (whereby I installed the older 1.2.2 firewire driver) this seems to have worked so far today. I've had no trouble doing what I describe above -- laying down a full drum kit with 7 mics, then overdubbing guitars on top of the beat. I haven't tested it extensively, but where it used to fail before today it now holds strong and works as expected.
Let me know if this works for others.

  • Audio crackles

I am trying to use Skype 2.8 on a flat screen imac G4 800 with Panther. I purchased an isight camera to work with it. The troubled is, the audio is terrible. The video works fine, but the audio crackles and breaks up. Even without the video, just with the internal microphone, the audio is bad. Is the imac too old to handle skype? Can I do anything to improve it?

    Canagirl2 wrote:
    Thank you.
Yes, I did contact skype and went through all their troubleshooting, and nothing works. My imac meets the specifications - 800 MHZ superdrive, OSX.3.8 which is supposed to work with isight (which I had to track down on ebay). Very frustrating.
You're welcome! And thanks for the new information.
    • If you have used all relevant suggestions from the external iSight testing link I offered in my initial response to verify that your used iSight's microphone records sound of quality equal to that recorded by your iMac's built-in microphone, the problem is NOT with your iSight, its cable, its connections, or the Apple software that operates your iSight.
    • If you have verified that the person you connect with does not have audio problems when using Skype with anyone else, if everyone you contact using Skype gives you sound that has the same crackle, and if no app other than Skype gives the crackle sound, then the problem is either with your Skype or your internet connection.
    • At least part of your problem may be that you did not review all the system requirements for Skype. Your system must meet every one of them. Check again.
For instance, "OSX.3.8" is not a valid version number of Mac OS X. The version should be a number like "10.x" or "10.x.y", where x and y are numbers.
If your correct System version number is something other than 10.3.8, use your Mac's  > About this Mac menu command to find the actual version identifier for your OS X and post it back here.
However, if your actual version number is 10.3.8, your system does NOT now meet Skype's minimum operating system requirement for Skype 2.8 for Mac OS X. Mac OS X v10.3.9 (Panther) or newer is required.
You can upgrade to 10.3.9 from any 10.3.x version using the following process:
    (1) Use your Mac's Disk Utility to repair permissions (how: http://tinyurl.com/9y3ed )
(There is no need to repair Mac OS 9 permissions for this update.)
    (2) Download and install the Mac OS X Combined Update 10.3.9:
      http://support.apple.com/kb/DL496
    (3) IMMEDIATELY following the restart that complete the update, repair permissions again.
    • If your Skype problem persists even though: your system meet ALL Skype requirements, is using up-to-date software on a stable broadband internet connection, and Skype cannot help you get their software working with your Mac, you may want to try a different chat application. Some are shown here:

  • Windows 8.1 MSI GTX 780 Audio Crackle & Pop

    Hi Guys,
Pulling my hair out with this one and I really need some help.
My HDMI Audio out to TV has worked great but more often than not I get Audio crackling and popping sounds.
Its more apparent when I launch big picture mode in steam it opens with horrid crackling sounds, if I use my USB headset its fine.
    I have done the following so far;
Disabled onboard Audio in the bios - No difference
Enable XMP1 memory profile - Thought it had resolved this at first but then the issue was back within a few days
Enabled high performance in power settings - no difference
reinstalled all drivers - no difference
did a full reinstall of Windows 8.1 and removed other devices and the same issue occurred.
I would also like to add the TV is fine, speakers are ok and I have tried a new HDMI cable and other devices which don't crackle.
Scan computers have offered to RMA the card but I don't think this issue is the card the games, graphics, all function really well and I am hoping to not have to RMA the card I have come here to ask for help because I am now at my wits end trying to fix this.
My motherboard BIOS is also fully up to date
    Gigabyte Z97M-DSH3 Bios F5
    i5 4460
    Ballistix 8GB Ram
    Nothing is overclocked

Had the same problem after installing 8.1 a long time ago. Rolled back to 8 still had the same problem. Just ignored it for like a year since it only happened after my PC was on for a while and then I could just log out and back in and it would fix itself for like 8 hours. Down the road I reinstalled windows from scratch after getting a new PSU (mine was getting up there) and it was gone. I think it had something to do with some drivers or something getting messed up while moving to win 8.1. On 8.1 now and have no issues.

  • Hp 15-r000na audio crackling

i got my new notebook delivered yesterday, and i have noticed that the audio crackles, creating a static popping noise, whether i am streaming through spotify or listening to my own music off the hard drive. this was very intermittent at first, but i just recently attempted to watch a movie on netflix and it was even more obvious and rendered the film unwatchable, the video was stuttering with the audio too. i have uninstalled and reinstalled all the audio drivers, then i changed the quality of the audio in the setting and still it happens although it does seem to be less frequent. this still happens when i am using headphones/hdmi output. such a shame considering it would be an otherwise great laptop.

    Hello, @gazmundo
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
It appears that you're having issues with audio playback. I will try to assist you on this.
    Start with this document:
No Sound from Speakers (Windows 8)
You can also try these steps:
Open Windows Control Panel > Sound > Under Playback tab, double click on Speakers to open Properties > Go to Advanced tab > From the dropdown, select the highest quality stereo output. By default its on the second lowest setting which is DVD quality > Apply and close.
If that doesn't help, try this:
Move from the Playback tab to the Recording tab. Double click on Stereo Mix to open the properties and repeat the steps done earlier. Go to Advanced tab, select highest quality from the drop down > Apply and close.
Please let me know how this goes.
Thank you for posting on the HP Forums.

  • Audio crackle/pop with new MacBook Pro under Vista

I just got a brand new MacBook Pro (multi-touch, Penryn cpu) and have used Boot Camp to install Windows Vista on it. Vista installed fine, and then I used the Restore DVDs that came with my MBP to install the drivers. The Device Manager shows that everything is installed.
All is not well, however. Whenever sound is being output, there are random crackles or pops - sometimes there will only be one every 5 minutes or so, sometimes there are 10 of them right in a row. The only clue I can find is that the Problem Reports And Solutions application in Vista says that there is a "Compatibility issue between Intel 82801GBM (ICH7-M) LPC Interface Controller - 27B9 and Windows Vista." There is no solution offered. I don't know if this problem is directly related to the audio problems, but it seems likely.
Has anyone else encountered this? Any way to fix this and stop the audio crackles?

Well after a week and a half of testing and being unsatisfied with choppy audio on my MBP I believe I may have found the answer. The cause lies in the audio API within Vista; there is a specific service (Multimedia Class Scheduler) that adjusts the priority of multimedia applications according to resources available and one of the factors that affects the prioritization is network usage.
I tried pretty much every Broadcom driver available from HP and Dell to no avail; some reduced the frequency of the pops and crackles but none of them removed it completely.
I believe the solution lies within several registry keys that control the Multimedia Class Scheduler service. Open up regedit and modify the following keys:
    HKEYLOCALMACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Multimedia\SystemProfile
Set NetworkThrottlingIndex and SystemResponsiveness to 10 each (decimal)
    and
    HKEYLOCALMACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Multimedia\SystemProfile\Tasks\Audio
    Set SchedulingPriority to High.
After changing these 2 keys I couldn't here any audible stutter regardless of whichever driver I used. I am currently using v1.96 for the Realtek and 4.170.77.3 for the Broadcom.

The "restore disk" is built into the Mac. See About Recovery.
Need more specifics about what error messages you got while installing Adobe Flash.
However, you can almost avoid Flash altogether by setting YouTube to play the HTML5 version instead.
Click the Try something new! link at the bottom of the YouTube page.
I don't know about the sound issue. Might be hardware as you think. Try other headphones to check.

  • HT201177 no audio when using a mini display port to HDMI cable to TV on my Macbook pro

no audio when using a mini display port to HDMI cable to TV on my Macbook pro. can only see the video

I keep saying this over and over, in the hope that people who do a search will find it.  Apple cannot possibly test for or be reponsible for the bazillion combinations of adapter, cables, and TV's out there.  The only monitors that are 100% guaranteed to work with the MacBook Pro are the Cinema Displays and Thunderbolt Displays, because, they're made by Apple.  They're expensive, but they work perfectly.
My guess is that you bought a cheap MDP to HDMI cable, or have a defective one.  From my reading of these boards over the past few months, cheap cables have a high failure rate.  And the regular priced ones have only a slightly less of one.  Try a new one.  Make sure you do not damage the Thunderbolt port.
