Audio cut out and midi miss sync

Lately I have been getting audio cut out, and the missing, 'error while trying to sync audio and midi'.
I thought it was that I had too many instances of virtual instruments. So I mixed the song down. Imported that into a NEW song, with only one audio track, and then proceeded to try to do an organ overdub...Well Logic still drops out and gives me the message, even though there is NO midi information in this file...
Then I noticed that even AIF or mp3 files, didn't play properly from the desktop preview mode. They stop too. Activity monitor doesn't seem to be showing anything overworking..
Disk Warrior fixed some volume errors,
Anyone have any ideas to try?

I'm using a motu828. I disconnected the firewire connection, and ran audio from the headphone jack to the motu, and VOILA, no problems... Last year, I went thru two motu units, not really sure if they are the issue.
I think it might be LOGIC's firewire circuitry. Apple techs couldn't find the issue, I had the G5 motherboard replaced. Another factor was I had 3 Lacie firewire drives (2 firewire 800, 1 400) I have had 4 Lacie drives die on me in the last 3 years. They are the only firewire drives I have, so I don't know if the fault lies with them, or the again Apples firewire circuitry, stressing the drives out???
I also put a firewire 800 card in my system.
I have now switched to an external ESATA raid setup. No more firewire drives. So far so good. Since I had the whole motherboard replaced, I don't know what that means in terms of MOTU connected via firewire..
For now, I'm running audio out of headphone jack, using all virtual instruments, so I know it will sound better when I get firewire audio up and running, but I got tired of it cutting out every 3 - 30 minutes. I'm thinking about the apogee duet unit. But again if it's connected via firewire, I don't know where that leaves me..
My G5 is three and half years old, perhaps it's tired and wants to be retired....
The dark part of me wonders, if Apple computers don't start crapping out after three years of heavy use, or is it that technology, software, updates, push the hardware beyond it's capacity after a few years.

After recent upgrade to Yosemite on Macbook air bluetooth audio cuts out and associated video stops with audio. Likewise with airplay and Apple TV. I have deleted all my saved wifi connections and restarted numerous times. I do not expect a resolution from the community, but hope to get the attention of Apple engineers. If you are having same problems or have a miracle cure I am all ears.

May start my own thread, but I'm having similar issues.
I've been using an old iMac (running 10.7.5) and Apple TV for years with no issues. Last week I bought a new Macbook Pro running Yosemite and have had audio issues multiple times. The weird thing is that sometimes it works flawlessly, other times (like now) I spend half an hour just trying to get a song to play.
My issues are: When I got to "computers" in Apple TV to stream my music, my music is sometimes chopper or intermittent, and I seen to know when it's going to happen based on the status wheel just before it plays. When I choose a song, the status wheel will spin for an unusually long time, usually an indicator that the audio is either not going to work, or stutter.
When it does finally pull up a song, the playhead sits at the beginning of the song for a good 3-5 seconds before actually playing. Then, when it starts playing, it's all downhill. It will play a few seconds, drop out, play a few more seconds, drop out, and then ultimately the playhead will keep moving across the song as if it's playing, but there's no audio.
Again, this is a new phenomenon never experienced by me. I've tried everything I could think of, some of them all at once:
    • restart Apple TV
    • restart Macbook Pro
    • quite iTunes/open
    • turn off Home Sharing on iTunes then reconnect it
    • unplugging and cycling both my modem and router
None of these have alleviated the problem.
The odd thing is, like this morning, the audio started up perfectly and never gave me any issues. It wasn't until later in the day that it started. Perhaps after the macbook pro had been put to sleep? Not sure.
Regardless, this is an annoying trait, one that's new to me and my system (as stated, worked flawlessly until my new purchase), and is 100% limited to either a) the macbook pro b) Yosemite or c) both of them.

  • Audio cuts out and video "freezes" every 10-15 seconds

So I recently switched to Verizon (about 2 weeks ago) for internet and tv.  After about a week (with no video or audio issues), I decided that I wanted to get a DVR.  So they shipped me a DVR Set Top Box - model is CHS 435HDC.
When watching live TV the problem isnt THAT bad...every 1-2 minutes the audio will cut out and the video will pixelate for about 1 second, and then it continues right along.
When watching a TV show that I recorded on the DVR it is REALLY bad...basically unwatchable.  The audio and video will cut out briefly every 10-15 seconds, then it continues along normally for another 10 seconds or so then it cuts out for a second and continues again.
Obviously I'm going to ask for a different DVR to be sent to me but if it happens again with the next box I may just cancel and switch back to the "other guy".  This is a pretty bad start to what I thought would be a new and better experience.  (Im not even going to go into the horrible on-demand menu system.)
Wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem before with their DVR?
    Thanks!
(Dont know if it matters but I am in Maryland)
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Generally but not always pixelation and picture break up is an issue with the signal to the set top box. Sometimes it's as simple as a loose coax cable, or the connector has come loose from the cable itself. There are other causes, but those are the easiest to start checking. I have sent you a private message to your forums inbox.

  • Flash audio cutting out, video stalling

    Hi,
My flash isn't working when streaming video/music - keeps stalling or sometimes the audio cuts out and the video continues.  Very annoying!
I'm using Vista 32bit, Firefox and have the latest version of flash.
I've tried watching html-5 videos and they seem to work fine?
    Any help?

Try if the latest Flash Player beta works better: http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/flashplayer.html

  • Logic Pro X Audio cutting in and out

When I am trying to record in Logic Pro X the audio seems to cut in and out at random points.
I have a MP3 track that I am recording to and it just randomly cuts out. Even when just playing that track by itself the same thing happens though never at the same spots. If I open the MP3 in Itunes or Quicktime there is no problem with the track.
As this seriously messes with the time of the piece and makes the recording long and painful I need help.
Is there some type of connection I am missing? I am using an old Presonus Firebox as an Interface, it unfortunately has adaptors to take it from firewire to thunderbolt. Recording into a 27" Imac that is very souped up and shouldn't have any problems until I hit a hundred tracks or so and I am only trying two.

It's most likely the Fusion drive, one of the symptoms is audio cutting out.
There are several related threads in this forum regarding audio problems with the Fusion drive.
This thread alone would take a couple of days to read.

  • Midi Audio Cuts out when Playback tracks are triggered.

    Hi,
I am having an issue where if I open Mainstage 2 and begin playing a Midi Sequence through a 3rd party Plug-in, the audio cuts out from the plug-in when I trigger my group of Playback tracks for the first time and only restarts when a new note is played. This is particularly a problem because the sound is arpegiated and continuous. 9 out of 10 times if I do it again right afterwards it will be fine without any issues at all. There was a time during rehearsal when it absolutely would not work, but I think a restart fixed it. CPU usage and memory usage do not seem to be the problem.
So my question is, is it normal for it to do that on the first time? Is there any reason why it would not absolutely work that time during rehearsal. And lastly, is there anyway to make it just work every time!
I have tried reading up on this, and from what I understand, putting each playback track on a separate patch might help. My issue with that is I have already designed a layout that fits everything on one screen in one patch. I don't want to be switching screens during a song to adjust levels for the playback tracks. I have One Vocal, One Midi Synth, 8 playback tracks, and 3 Aux strips.
I am new to mainstage and might not completely understand how to make a set work with patches, but from what I understand if I put the playback tracks on different patches I can't control everything from one screen.
Any thoughts, insights, or advice is greatly appreciated.

Logic has that issue at times as well- where the first notes of a midi passage may not play. I believe the timing is such that the note starts are actually slightly before the first beat. Check your starting notes to make sure that they are really starting on the first beat and not slightly before.

  • Mac Mini 10.7 external hdmi audio cuts in and out

I have the newer mac mini, have had this one and another one previously setup on my samsung TV through hdmi then fiber to polk audio soundbar has been working fine on 10.6.  I upgraded to 10.7 and now the audio cuts in and out.  When i go to audio and set it to internal speaker it works fine.  I didn't have any issues before the upgrade.  I did swap the hdmi cable with the one from my ps3 since it isn't cutting out, and it still cuts out on the mac running 10.7. Ideas?

Same issue here, and same fix. PRAM reset... twice! I actually held it down TOO long and it tried to prompt me to reinstall my OS which scared the crap out of me, but I just clicked the "reboot" button on the setup screen and it booted fine. Audio problem gone. Thanks!

  • Audio cuts in and out on burnt DVDs

Hello here is my problem, I hope someone can help me because I'm already behind my deadline for this project.
I exported a Quicktime movie (version 7) from Final Cut Xpress and imported it into iDVD 4. When I preview the movie everything is fine. When I burn the DVD most of the movie is good except at near the end the audio cuts out completely and then returns several minutes later.
The audio is fine when I watch the QT movie. When I burn a DVD then it cuts out.
I've tried a few times with different settings and the same thing happens at the same moment in the movie. I tried burning just the troubled section of the video to DVD and it had no audio either.
Why would this happen? Why is it all good when I preview the DVD in iDVD but then goes to **** after I burn it? If the source file seems intact when I view it in QT then where is the problem?
I have a stack of coasters from burned dvds all with the same problem at the same place.
    What am I doing wrong?

What was the source of the content you assembled in FCX?
The audio is fine when I watch the QT movie.
Is it a self-contained movie or a reference movie? (a self-contained movie will be many MB in size while a reference movie is just a few KB.)
Why is it all good when I preview the DVD in iDVD but then goes to ** after I burn it?
It's because the preview function of iDVD just runs your source material so you can see if things are linked in the way you want. If the original files played in QT, they should play in preview.
I tried burning just the troubled section of the video to DVD and it had no audio either.
Open the movie clip of the troublesome video in QT player and do: Window>Show Movie Info
What do you see for video and audio formats?

  • ITunes 9.0 audio cuts in and out sporadically

Installed iTunes 9.0 recently and haven't noticed this problem before but when browsing on the web, navigating directories within the hard drive, etc., the audio cuts out briefly intermittently.
I thought this might have to do with running too many programs at once with 4GB of RAM but even if I scale back on programs running, I do not notice any difference. I recently installed Norton 360 and thought that might have something to do with it but not sure.
I don't notice the audio cut out like that anywhere else.
    Anybody else notice this?

I don't have my iPod docked when I have this problem. Downloaded 9.1 today, thought it might help. No. It's as bad as before.
My system is good, no defrag needed. Though I like to run that every so often. Like spring cleaning for the computer, even if it doesn't need it, heh.
Looking for something else to use to manage my music, since iTunes won't cut it anymore.

  • I have been watching a rental movie and the audio cut out half way through, tried restoring the apple TV now I've lost the rental.

I have just been watching (The  Adjustment Bureau) a rental movie and about half way through the audio cut out, I tried rerunning the chapter but still the same problem so I tried the restoring function and now I have lost the 48 hrs viewing of the movie. So how do I get the movie back without paying for it again and is this problem likely to reoccoure and if so how do I rest without loosing the movie?

    Hi David.
This must be a glitch in the movie file on the iTunes server because my husband and I just reached the same point in he film (The Adjustment Bureau) and no audio! Totally cuts out and doesn't come back in. We tried the same - turned off, signed out, and also couldn't see the rental in the menu... Sign out, sign back in and click 'Check for rentals' in the 'General' menu just under where you signed in.
It may come up with a negative 'no more rentals can be found' or similar but go back to the main screen and check anyway. It should be there.

  • Audio cuts in and out on iPhone 4S

I have an iPhone 4S (16 GB) that is on version 6.0.1.  My problem has to do with sound cutting in and out when listening to music, using apps or watching videos (audio never cuts out on actual phone calls).  The issue happens both when I'm streaming online and using local programs (like apps or iTunes).  The music plays anywhere from 15 to 45 seconds, then the audio cuts.  The volume bar disappears and the iPhone pauses the muted music 3 to 5 seconds after.  If you hit Play again, it works for about 3 to 5 seconds before cutting again and automatically pausing.
Is anyone else experiencing this issue or have heard of it reported?  I noticed this issue on my device four days ago.

    Hey Fitz,
I was just in to the Apple Store to have the same issue looked at for my iPhone 4. Audio cutting in and out across programs, headphones or not, with the volume bar dissapearing when the problem occurred. Turns out its damage to the audio processor (evidently located near the speakers). Can be from water damage, wear and tear or as simple as dust. I had to replace mine outright, but the employee was saying sometimes they just need a cleaning. Worthwhile having it looked at.
Sorry there isn't an easier fix!

  • Audio cutting out at the end of my video

So I exported a AVCHD video into an uncompressed AVI and then re imported it. I brought it into the time line and edited it a bunch and also brought in another video and mixed that in. For about half of the video, I used the audio from the video itself... but in different sections, I brought in a separate wav file. I used this wav file towards the end of the video for about 1 minute of the video. After I was done, I exported the entire project into a normal avi file because what I'm going to do for now is upload these to YouTube and so I don't want the file sizes to be too huge.
So I opened up the final avi file in VLC player... and everything is great... except the last 30 seconds or so of the video doesn't have the audio. It plays the audio from the wav about halfway through... and then it stops. The video continues... but there is no sound.
I went back into the project and everything looks fine. The wav file extends to the end and the audio plays fine when I preview the video. So I exported again just to see if it was some sort of error the first time... but no... it did the same thing.
So why is the audio cutting out at the end? How do I fix it?
    Thanks in advance.

Ok I figured out how to do a better quality MP4. However I had two problems. 1... the quality isn't near as good as the AVI. 2... now the audio cuts out in even more places instead of just the end. It seems that the .wav file I imported is causing the problems. In the AVI, the wav file cuts out at the end. In the MP4, the wav file cuts out in the middle AND at the end. I don't understand why this is happening. The wav file plays all the way through normaly, and it also sounds find when I preview the video... but when I encode it... it cuts out in places regardless of the format. Is there some step I'm missing in the process to make sure the audio is all in place?

  • Audio cutting out

Hi, I am using Logic 7.2.3 on an Intel Mac with 2 gigs RAM. I am having a problem with audio cutting out both during playback and bounces. This occurs whether or not my Mackie Onyx 400F is switched on. I work with a lot of midi instruments, and the frequency of the audio cutting out does seem to increase when I have more instruments. Do I just need more RAM, or is there something else I should do to solve the problem?

    Increase the IO Buffer size.

  • Bluetooth audio cutting out

The bluetooth connection for all audio speakers is cutting out - especially when scrolling through email and web browser. I'm on a MacBook Pro 13-inch, Mid 2010. The issue of bluetooth cutting out started after loading Yosemite (now 10.10.1.). It doesn't matter what speaker I'm connected to via bluetooth or the distance between the computer and speaker. While listening to any streaming audio - from any source (web, iTunes, etc.), when I type or scroll through email or browse the web, the audio cuts out on the bluetooth speaker. Is there something I can do to fix the connection issue?

Try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account.  Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear, and then again as you log in. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.
