Audio Cuts Back to Start of Clip

Hi - and thanks in advance for any help you might give.
I'm using CS6 on a MacBook Pro with 8G of ram w/ OS 10.7.5. It's a music video made up of five clips, each of which is a movie exported from Premiere. I'm a newbie, and this was the easy way to blend pieces of five different songs. Each clip is around 1GB.
The last clip has fine audio in original form but, when exporting as a final movie, that clip at about the halfway point loses the audio track and replaces it with the same track starting from the beginning of the clip. In other words, four and a half clips play fine, syncing nicely, but then it jumps back to the beginning of the audio track for clip #5.
I've checked the original clip and even re-imported it and pulled the one I had placed previously. Same problem.
Also - Ram preview worked previously, though only for a minute or so worth of preview. I'm thinking that is a RAM issue, as in not enough, but uncertain. Worse, trying to check that particular clip I get the error "RAM preview needs two or more frames to playback. This when I've got the playhead in the middle of any clip. If it does work, it looks (and sounds) like it's playing no more than two frames.
Help, please?
and thanks.

You're probably using a highly compressed format with MPEG compression. You also may have some 3rd party codecs installed. These can also cause problems. The solution would be to transcode the source footage to a production codec with standard production codec audio, replace the compressed footage in your comp with the transcoded footage, and then re-render.
If that doesn't work then we need to know a lot more about the footage.

  • FCPX starting a clip black with audio playing and fade in video from black

Hello FCPers, I recently have made the leap from FCP7 to X. I have not gotten used to the lack of rubber bands on clips vid and audio in the timeline. So how would you:
Start a clip with video black, audio fades in from silence, then fade in the video over the running audio all in the same clip?
The hard way was to cut the clip up, separate video and audio and use the video animator on the first video chunk, then fade in the 2nd chunk manually. Ahhh, if I could only option-T a keyframe diamond on that line.
Everything else is going without a hitch. Let me know what you think.

CControl-V to open video animation and ramp the opacity with the fade handle.
I Prefer to put a gap clip in front of the video. Expand the audio then roll the gap clip on top of it to trim the video. Cross dissolve to the video to fade it up.

  • Getting the audio back on a video clip in the time line

    hi all,
    and happy new year!
have deleted the audio from a video clip in the time line and now want it back, how would I get the audio back?
    thanks for your time
    jonyfoz

Put the playhead at the beginning of the clip and press the X key. It should mark in and out point for the clip. Press the F key to match frame back to the same clip. Make sure both video and audio target tracks are set correctly and press F0 to overwrite and edit the clip with audio back into the timeline.

  • Audio cutting off at the end of audio clips w no change in waveform?

Audio cuts off right at the end of some of my clips... I can still see the waveforms that have the full audio on them, but no audio plays for those last two or three seconds! My audio level is the same throughout the clip, so its not like its fading out or anything. This has been happeneing for a few weeks now, in multiple seperate projects.

    Hi David,
Thanks for the response. I did look at the song that got cut off and it's a .m4a file. However, I also have normal audio that comes from an external Zoom recorder in .wav format that is getting cut off in the same way. The strange thing is I've never had a problem with this before a couple weeks ago. I've used this same song before and my external audio is always in .wav format

  • My ipad keeps cutting out and going back to start up screen, my ipad keeps cutting out and going back to start up screen

my ipad2 keeps cutting out and going back to start up screen?

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
Finally, if the Restore doesn't work, let the battery drain completely.  Then recharge for at least an hour and Restore again.

  • Is there a shortcut for fading audio to zero and back up between two clips?

I'm trying to determine if there is a shortcut for this situation in FCP 5...
You have two audio clips butted adjacent to each other.
You want the first clip to fade down to zero (i.e. silence).
You want the second clip to fade up from zero.
So basically you have a split second of silence between the two clips.
The video equivalent would be touching black for a second between the
two clips. You can use the "Fade In Fade Out Dissolve" to do it fast.
I realize you can accomplish this audio manuvers with 4 keyframes and the pen tool. I know you can also put an audio transisions on the end of each clip. There are a bunch of ways of getting there, but is there a really
fast way like the "Fade In Fade Out Video dissolve" or a keyboard shortcut?
    Thanks for any feedback.

When I need to do somethig like that I make sure there at least a 1 frame gap between the two and ad audio transitions on the end of clip 1 and the beginning of clip 2.
If someone has a faster way, i'd love to know it.

  • Beginning of audio cut off when using digital optical out

    Hi all,
This is my first post here since switching to Mac earlier this year.
I'm having problems with the first second or so of audio being cut off when commencing playback using the Mac's digital optical out.  This happens with any source of audio in a variety of different applications (e.g. video, iTunes, even system sounds for notifications and the like).   I have used a mini Toslink to Toslink optical cable to connect from the Mac's audio out jack to the receiver of my digital speakers (Logitech Z906).  Once playback has commenced, audio plays fine; it's just the very first second or so which is usually clipped.
The problem does NOT happen when using the built-in speakers.  I've also noticed that if I unplug the cable from the receiver end (leaving it connected at the Mac end) I can see the red LED light shining the optical signal down the cable, but this goes out exactly 30 seconds after audio stops playing.  If I start another audio playback within 30 seconds, there is no loss of audio at the beginning, but if I wait longer than 30 seconds (i.e. after the LED has gone out) I encounter the problems with the initial audio being clipped.   I therefore suspect that this is an OS issue which is shutting down the digital optical out when audio is not actually playing (presumably to save power or something).  I wouldn't have a problem with this if it actually worked properly when audio playback recommences, but it seems that there is a slight delay whilst the optical out service 'wakes up' again and this is leading to the clipped audio.
I've done some searching of the internet (and these support communities) for this problem and there seems to be little information about it.  It does seem to affect a few other people though and some have resorted to third party applications or scripts which play silent audio at regular intervals to keep the optical output running permanently (e.g. SoundStay (https://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/39833/soundstay) - no longer maintained and the download link is dead).  However, these amount to a kludge at best which treat the symptoms rather than the underlying cause, which I would rather resolve.
I tried to log a support case with Apple in order to have them call me, only to have the system tell me that my support has already expired, despite having purchased the Mac only 4 months ago.  It seems that my Apple One-Year Limited Warranty is actually only 90 days when it comes to telephone support.  So here I am!
Does anyone else have this problem with optical out, and how can I resolve this?  Any help would be gratefully appreciated.
    Thank you.

  • Fade audio in and out throughout a clip

Is thre any way to fade audio in and out throughout a clip, so say for example I want to fade it back just when someone is talking etc? it used to be so easy in previous imovies!

Audio in iMovie 09 is a pain. In order to do this, you have 2 choices...
    1. Your clip must have a video fade effect of some kind then go into precision editor, select to see audio from the waveform button near the middle right of the screen and then slide the audio (without effecting picture) either earlier or later.
    2. You can Split your clip in multiple places, lets say 6. Then double click on each of them in turn, moving the audio level lower and lower until you get to the part of the split clip that will be zero. In order no to have the edit point sound cut, either set the auto fade to be manual/zero, or go into precision editor and overlap the audio edit points slightly.

  • Audio cuts out half way through video after conversion.

I just put together some video clips I've shot into a single video, then ran it through conversion. Half way through the completed video, the audio cuts out for the rest of the film. Yet in iMovie, it's still there. I've converted twice and it cuts out in the same spot. Could corruption in a single clip, kill the audio for the following clips? Since it takes hours to convert, I thought I'd ask before deleting the suspect clip and starting again.
I've spliced together clips before without problem, using the same camera source.
    Thanks.
    Cheers

I figured a work-around. From the clip where the audio cut out till the end, I dragged those clips to a new iMovie project. After converting, the sound was intact for that portion. Then I opened the complete version with audio cut-off in Quicktime Pro. Deleted the the half with audio loss. Then joined the new half I just created. Voila!
Only when I went to post the video on my vlog, did my Internet connection die (Comcast strikes again).

  • Bluetooth audio cutting out

The bluetooth connection for all audio speakers is cutting out - especially when scrolling through email and web browser. I'm on a MacBook Pro 13-inch, Mid 2010. The issue of bluetooth cutting out started after loading Yosemite (now 10.10.1.). It doesn't matter what speaker I'm connected to via bluetooth or the distance between the computer and speaker. While listening to any streaming audio - from any source (web, iTunes, etc.), when I type or scroll through email or browse the web, the audio cuts out on the bluetooth speaker. Is there something I can do to fix the connection issue?

Try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account.  Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear, and then again as you log in. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

  • Audio cutting out when using D2 external Firewire Drive

    Hi,
I have just upgraded to Logic Studio, using the following setup:
    Macbook Pro
    Motu 828
    AMT 8
    Logic Studio
    D2 Lacie 500GB Firewire Drive
As the MacBook's internal hard drive is not sufficient to record and playpack efficiently, I was advised to get an external Firewire Drive. Given that I have very little space on my laptop - (am running windows on a partition also) I am trying to save my logic files to the external HD. When creating tracks specifically using Audio Instruments, the playpack keeps cutting out.
I am connecting the HD via usb 2. I am also having to freeze the tracks in order to record more layers. There is lots of clipping and latency. I thought by using the external, this problem would be resolved.
The HD is not playing back the tracks fast enough, and keeps cutting the audio out. The audio cuts out everytime the blue light on the drive flashes.
I cannot save the files to the MackBook HD as there is notenough space.
Is there something very wrong with my setup?
any advice would be really appreciated.
ps. I am a bit of a newbie
    thank you in advance.

Connect it via firewire 800. USB2 is not good for audio or video streaming.
I have 3 D2's connected to my mac pro, works like a charm.
    good luck.

  • Audio Clicks and Pops appearing in clips

In the final stages of editing a project that truly tests your machine, I am now running in to a mysterious problem.
I am nearly completely finished with a semi-complex project. Just in recent hours, certain clips have started developing "Clicks" and "Pops" that are very, very distinct. This might be fine.... if I were able to correct them. But conveniently, it appears that Final Cut Pro X does not give you this capability.
Is there a way to correct Clicks and Pops in FCPX? If not, is there some explainable reason why my audio is creating these problems slowly and surely? (the source media does not have the clicks)
    Thank you for your insight!

I'm having the SAME EXACT ISSUE! Been driving me crazy! I had FCPX on SL, then upgraded to Lion a few days ago and it's been hit or miss with the renders. Some of them render properly, some clips sound fine inside FCPX and then render incorrectly, and some are fine until FCPX decides to analyze the clips and then it introduces all the clicks and pops which are then clearly audible inside of FCPX. I've done transcoding on clips that have come out OK in Compressor and they seem to come out fine. I'm not quite sure if there is any work around for those of us who have FCPX and Lion...
P.S. A lot of people are talking about importing everything as .AIFF and all this stuff, well, how hard can it be to handle MP3s or Waves? I used Waves for all of the audio and they were perfectly fine until Lion, so this stuff about .AIFF just doesn't seem like a good solution. I'm going to try to create a random track and import stuff as .AIFF and other as .MP3 and .WAV and see what happens. It'd be curious to see if the cracks appear in some parts and not in others (for me they appear so long as there is audio, but stops in between the clips where i've put a 1 second silence)...

  • Video audio cutting into soundtrack music

Hi everyone I have a video I am making which is backed by a music track, in most parts it is fine but a few areas sound from the video cuts in...I am sure I have set the audio properties for each clip to 0% volume, I have even tried detaching the audio and deleting it to no avail.
The video is edited clips of a video I made in iMovie before so the audio cutting in is a different music soundtrack I had used.
How can I get it so just be the music track covering all the sound without the annoying video sound?
    Many thanks

If you have made any custom speed changes in your project, rather than using the presets on the speed slider, you may experience audio glitches after export. See my post in this thread:
