Audio Cuts Out During Slideshow Transitions

Hi-
In my iDVD6 slideshow I have embedded audio. It cuts out during each transition. Do I have to not use transitions to keep that from happening?
Are there some transitions that don't make the audio cut out, or is it something else entirely? Thanks for any insights!

MacinTouch has a good discussion of this issue here:
http://www.macintouch.com/readerreports/idvd/topic2244.html
Besides making the slide show in iMovie, one poster at MacinTouch said he had always had success with DVD playback if he created the slideshow in Photo to Movie:
http://lqgraphics.com/software/phototomovie.php.
I just had this same problem with my very first iDVD. The problem does not appear to be with iDVD, but rather with DVD players that do not fully support the DVD spec or have large enough playback buffers. I found a little more insight here:
http://www.aidinc.com/features/dvdfaq.asp
I tried the disc I burned from iDVD in 2 different physical players and also in Tiger's DVD Player app. The disc works perfectly played back from computer. It played with just a slight bit of audio stutter on a 5 year old, under $100 Go player but with lots of stutter and even stutter on menu transitions in a 2 year old $250 Samsung DVD recorder.
I want to try burning the project from a disk image in Disk Utility using a slower burn speed but have not yet tried that.
My slideshow is pictures of a recent visit to relatives who are die-hard PC users. Unfortunately, I bragged to them about my Mac and promised to send them DVDs. Hope the discs will playback okay on their machines.
Hope this helps and Merry Christmas!

  • Audio cuts out at slide transitions when played on TV

The audio on the DVD is my own narration, nothing downloaded from iTunes--and it works fine both in the iDVD viewer and DVD player on my computer. But in the DVD player attached to my TV, the audio cuts out at each slide transition, which are dissolves.
The image files are relatively small, and there are only 25 slides. I burned the DVD at 4x rather than maximum speed to enhance quality. In preferences, I have "best quality" rather than "best performance" checked for the encoder settings.
Please let me know if you have any ideas for a fix.

Is the audio embedded in the video or did you do a voice over?
If it is embedded in the video, you might try extracting the video and then adding the transitions.

  • Audio Cuts out after a few minutes.  IChat AV 2.1

I have surfed and have not found any topics like this yet. Audio is cutting out after chatting with another Mac - AV user. Both microphones still appear to work in the preferences, but the person can not hear on the other side. Video works fine, but now audio. Any help or suggestions would be helpful. Virex 7 has already been removed. This solved the video problems. Merry Christmas.

    Hi Brian,
Your title states that the audio cuts out during a chat but the post itself seems to imply that you do not have Audio after the chat.
IF it is cutting out during a Video cut can you please tell us what connection speeds both ends have ?
It should be a at least 100kbps up and down.
If it is not you will have problems. You may find that a cable connection varies as the chat goes on and this might be part of the problem.
    Soemthings that might help:
GO to System Preferences > Quicktime > Streaming tab and set the Connection sped to mathc the download speed at either end.
GO to iChat > Preferences > Video > bandwidth Limit Drop Down and set this to NONE.

  • Audio cuts out most of the way through an iDVD image

We created a Quicktime file using Final Cut Express HD 3.5, and imported the Quicktime fill into iDVD 6 (all patches have been applied to iDVD and to Quicktime, and Quicktime has been upgraded to Pro version). The iDVD preview shows that all audio is present all the way through the end of the video(about 1 hour and 5 minutes), which means that the Quicktime file has all the audio present.
However, after creating a DVD disk image with iDVD 6, the audio cuts out completely about 55 minutes into the video. The spot where the audio cuts out is not near any chapter marker nor near any transition of any kind in the Final Cut editor session.
By the way, I am creating the image on an external Firewire drive with 112 Gbyte free, although we also tried the internal hard drive which has about 20Gbyte free.
How can I figure out how to get all the audio onto the image created by iDVD?

I believe I've found the cause of the problem! Within Final Cut Express, I found a system setting for output buffer size, set by default to 2Gbyte. I also found that the default 'Convert to Quicktime' setting is for Internet Fast Start. I increased the buffer size from 2Gbyte to 3Gbyte and unchecked Internet Fast Start, and I have no more audio drop out!
I think that iDVD has a bug when multiple file segments are linked together in the Quicktime file (because of the smaller FCE output buffer size). Note that the iDVD preview did not experience the problem, so that part of the iDVD app seems to handle multiple file segments correctly, whereas the part that processes the file segments while creating the DVD image seems to have the bug. Increasing the buffer size masked the iDVD bug.
So if anybody from Apple is listening, please fix your iDVD bug please!
Concerning the ZR85, I do re-use tapes quite a lot and have never experienced problems. I do clean the ZR85 heads periodically. However, I shall consider using new tapes more often.

  • Audio cutting out

Hi, I am using Logic 7.2.3 on an Intel Mac with 2 gigs RAM. I am having a problem with audio cutting out both during playback and bounces. This occurs whether or not my Mackie Onyx 400F is switched on. I work with a lot of midi instruments, and the frequency of the audio cutting out does seem to increase when I have more instruments. Do I just need more RAM, or is there something else I should do to solve the problem?

    Increase the IO Buffer size.

  • Phone audio cutting out

Updated to iOS 4.3.4 this weekend and ever since then, when talking on phone (both my iPhone 3GS and my wife's iPhone 4) the audio cuts out for a second on average every minute during the call (the frequency of the one second cut-out seems to fluctuate). Don't know if this is an iOS issue or an AT&T issue. Anyone else experiencing anything like this and/or have a suggested solution? Thanks.

Yes! I have the same issue too with me Motorokr s9 stereo BT headset and my Jawbone Icon -- This happens both when playing music via the iPod app OR when speaking on the phone. I can't put the phone in my pocket or else this happens!!! I also can't put it on the desk then walk around my 12x12 office without the dropouts. Having to hold the phone close to the headset kinda defeats the purpose. BTW, my 3GS worked almost flawlessly with these devices. I know, early-adopter syndrome but REALLY! I really rely on the BT headsets
Just got off the phone with Apple Support -- they were ver nice and helpful. They've scheduled me a Genius appt for tomorrow morning so they can run diags on the iPhone. They've also asked me to bring the headsets.

  • Ear phone cuts out during conversation, starts playing music

My new iPhone 4 S GSM-GBR  earphone cuts out during my conversation and music starts to play, the conversation may or may not start again.
I borrowed a friends earphone and don't have any problems.
    Is the earphone faulty?

This issue has been happening to me as well in the OKC area. Started about 2 weeks ago, have had apple send a new iPhone and problem persisted. AT&T claims it's not a network issue but almost everyone I know that has an iPhone in this area is having the EXACT same problem.... incoming audio cuts out after being on the call. I was told by AT&T that my mic or speaker was probably going out and when I asked them if that was the case for everyone else experiencing the problem their answer was yes ... no wonder we have such great service from this carrier! UUGGHHH!!! Obviously, since it's happening on numerous iPhones, is replicated on a brand new iphone, it's not a hardware issue and must be a network issue.

  • Audio cutting out on Apple TV?

The audio on my Apple TV (3rd Gen) has begun to cut out during playback. The problem occurs both in my iTunes content, iTunes trailers and within Netflix.
I have managed to narrow the problem down to the Apple TV. My network is fine, iTunes is fine and Netflix is fine... I am able to watch movies etc. on my other devices without a problem.
Does anybody have a solution for this problem? It seems to be pretty common. And please don't hit me with the usual reset, turn on/off suggestions... I've tried the lot!
On a general note. If anybody out there is listening - Apple, you are slipping big time. Recently I have had constant nagging problems with my devices. The Apple TV has given me many problems. Frankly, I think it just ain't acceptable and it's just not the Apple way.
I'm a major Apple fan-boy too, so this just makes these nagging issues all the more frustrating. Then when it comes to trying to resolve your problems; it's a case of fix it yourself!!!

Have you tried connecting via ethernet, that will help to verify any wifi issues. Make sure DNS is set to automatic (settings - general - network).
To get a proper indication of the network you need to go to istumbler (Mac) or netstumbler (PC) and get a report, look for signal strength and noise.

  • Midi Audio Cuts out when Playback tracks are triggered.

    Hi,
I am having an issue where if I open Mainstage 2 and begin playing a Midi Sequence through a 3rd party Plug-in, the audio cuts out from the plug-in when I trigger my group of Playback tracks for the first time and only restarts when a new note is played. This is particularly a problem because the sound is arpegiated and continuous. 9 out of 10 times if I do it again right afterwards it will be fine without any issues at all. There was a time during rehearsal when it absolutely would not work, but I think a restart fixed it. CPU usage and memory usage do not seem to be the problem.
So my question is, is it normal for it to do that on the first time? Is there any reason why it would not absolutely work that time during rehearsal. And lastly, is there anyway to make it just work every time!
I have tried reading up on this, and from what I understand, putting each playback track on a separate patch might help. My issue with that is I have already designed a layout that fits everything on one screen in one patch. I don't want to be switching screens during a song to adjust levels for the playback tracks. I have One Vocal, One Midi Synth, 8 playback tracks, and 3 Aux strips.
I am new to mainstage and might not completely understand how to make a set work with patches, but from what I understand if I put the playback tracks on different patches I can't control everything from one screen.
Any thoughts, insights, or advice is greatly appreciated.

Logic has that issue at times as well- where the first notes of a midi passage may not play. I believe the timing is such that the note starts are actually slightly before the first beat. Check your starting notes to make sure that they are really starting on the first beat and not slightly before.

  • Premiere Pro CC Audio Cuts Out

    Okay,
So I've switched to the new Premiere Pro CC and now my audio drops out during playback. Doesn't matter if it's an aiff, mp3, whatever. I never had this problem with Premiere Pro CS6. All files are saved to an XServe Network on OS 10.8.4. I'll have to remain using Premiere CS6 for the time being.
Also, just tested this out. I had a TIFF sequence playing with this audio. It did NOT like that. I can play the audio by itself just fine. So it seems to be a problem with playing the video file WITH the audio.

This happens on nearly every project I start in Premiere Pro CC.
It's really frustating and makes editing very difficult. It is almost impossible to watch the flow of an edit.
I used Premiere CS6 and this never happened. In fact I got my entire office to switch from Final Cut 7 to premiere recently because CS6 was so great and chugged through footage without the hassle transcoding.  I very much want this issue resolved.
I am typically working with multiple layers of video and 1 layer of audio - footage straight out of Canon 5D Mark III
This even happens when you quote un quote "render audio" which doesnt make sense to me.
Happens when you render the enite video video with render all effects.
I work on a decked out mac book pro at my office
and a fairly decked out mac mini at my house (though i realize it is still a mac mini)
This happens both when running on an internal drive or firewire 800
I just watched my activity monitor - it seems to happen when the free ram goes to less than 100mb -
however the ram fluxuates a lot when playing back.
I am currently working on a projcet that is 2:30 long. The only applications open are premiere, safari and the activity monitor.
I just opened premiere and flushed the preferences by holding option and shif
Watched the video once entirly with no issue (it was rendered mostly from last time I was working) my free ram started at about 3 gigs available the first time I watched. When it was done playing I had about 1 gig available
I stated playing the video again and the ram went down again to nothing and audio stopped - audio levels die (even though there is audio there) - video played okay. pressing play immediatly to start it fixes it temporarily but then it cuts out again
I went back to the begining again and this time deleted my render files. playback on both A/V were very poor.
I dont know too much about computers but it seems to be a ram issue - this being said my mac mini which i am on right now has 8 gigs and my mac pro at work has 24. Both should be sufficient ram.
Thanks for your help and look forward to Adobe's fix for this issue. I hope it is as pressing for your team as it is for all of us.

  • Audio cuts out in long movie

I've created a feature documentary in iMovie lasting 1h35m. I've designed the 4:3 Revolution menus in iDVD and everything previews beautifully in iDVD. Assets were encoded at Professional level. All audio is in AIF 48KHz.
Then from iDVD I saved to a disc image and then mount the image and play it in DVD Player. Everything seems fine until the last 5 min of the presentation where the audio cuts out (video still plays). Otherwise the audio was synchronized throughout. It cuts out in the middle of an audio file that's just like all the other audio files in the movie. This final segment plays fine in iMovie and previews fine in iDVD.
I've deleted the encoded assets and run it again after uninstalling Perian. Still no joy. Does anyone know what to suggest other than use Toast?
It's not acceptable to me to put multiple movie files into a slideshow (I've seen this suggested) as you have to click next to go on to the next part of the movie. I also don't want the viewer to have to return to the menu to be able to watch the whole show straight through.
Help as this is like getting to the end of a thriller and discovering the last few pages are ripped out! What happened?

Has nothing to do with players. iDVD just does not handle the audio properly. DVD slideshow format is not the same as video - it basically shows still images for a set amount of time while the audio plays. The 99 image limit is a limitation of the DVD slideshow specification which iDVD gets around for the images but it doesn't work for the audio for some reason.
I have learned of another solution which I will try though; Make a DVD slideshow with multiple slideshows - 1 for each audio file, for example. You end up with chapter markers for each song/sub-slideshow, which is what I wanted anyway. In the future, I will generate the slideshow in iMovie or just use DVD SP to avoid the problem. My problem is I spent a lot of time putting everything together in iDVD and have it just the way I want it. I can't afford to redo everything from scratch so I'll just group the images according to the audio into separate slideshows which shouldn't be too time consuming. I'll let you know how it works.

  • Audio cuts out for a few seconds

    Hi,
I'm not sure if anyone is experiencing this but it happens to me all the time and it's so so annoying.
When playingback the timeline on CS6 the audio cuts out at random places and then it comes back, then it goes again for a few seconds then back again,..while video keeps on playing.....this is just random and it can happen as soon as you press play or after a few seconds and it happens when audio is stereo, mono, mp3,wav,aif, you name it.
Also, it happens regardless of playback quality or timeline render status (red, yellow or green). My computer is quite fast + 24gb RAM so I dont think the PC is a problem, It also happens on a different computer within our studio.
Needless to say that editing under these circumstances is becoming impossible/frustrating and I'm even considering finding other software to edit with! I've found others with this same problem at cretive cow http://forums.creativecow.net/thread/3/935424
If anyone from Adobe reads this, please help!!!
    thanks in advance

Unfortunately there's no fix for this problem that plagues Classic since release. Considering that a new generation appeared I guess we have no reason to expect a fix anymore.
I also have the problem and it makes the iPod Classic less desirable to be used as a music player than a generic $10 (no name) usb stick.

  • Audio cut out and midi miss sync

Lately I have been getting audio cut out, and the missing, 'error while trying to sync audio and midi'.
I thought it was that I had too many instances of virtual instruments. So I mixed the song down. Imported that into a NEW song, with only one audio track, and then proceeded to try to do an organ overdub...Well Logic still drops out and gives me the message, even though there is NO midi information in this file...
Then I noticed that even AIF or mp3 files, didn't play properly from the desktop preview mode. They stop too. Activity monitor doesn't seem to be showing anything overworking..
Disk Warrior fixed some volume errors,
Anyone have any ideas to try?

I'm using a motu828. I disconnected the firewire connection, and ran audio from the headphone jack to the motu, and VOILA, no problems... Last year, I went thru two motu units, not really sure if they are the issue.
I think it might be LOGIC's firewire circuitry. Apple techs couldn't find the issue, I had the G5 motherboard replaced. Another factor was I had 3 Lacie firewire drives (2 firewire 800, 1 400) I have had 4 Lacie drives die on me in the last 3 years. They are the only firewire drives I have, so I don't know if the fault lies with them, or the again Apples firewire circuitry, stressing the drives out???
I also put a firewire 800 card in my system.
I have now switched to an external ESATA raid setup. No more firewire drives. So far so good. Since I had the whole motherboard replaced, I don't know what that means in terms of MOTU connected via firewire..
For now, I'm running audio out of headphone jack, using all virtual instruments, so I know it will sound better when I get firewire audio up and running, but I got tired of it cutting out every 3 - 30 minutes. I'm thinking about the apogee duet unit. But again if it's connected via firewire, I don't know where that leaves me..
My G5 is three and half years old, perhaps it's tired and wants to be retired....
The dark part of me wonders, if Apple computers don't start crapping out after three years of heavy use, or is it that technology, software, updates, push the hardware beyond it's capacity after a few years.

  • Why does audio cut out 10-15 minutes into iTunes movie? Using Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bit

My audio cuts out in any completely downloaded iTunes movie (SD or HD) 10-15 minutes into watching it in iTunes how can I fix this?
I have to shut down iTunes completely and restart it again to get the audio to come back. 10-15 minutes later the audio disapears again.
    I am running a Windows 8.1 Professional 64-bit on a PC, 8 GB RAM, ADM Athlon II X2 265 Processor, 3.30 GHz
    Running iTunes application version 11.1.3.8
    Quicktime 7.7.4 (1680.86)
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes already.
    Any ideas?

    Hi  RonaldRenaud,
If my understanding is right, this RDP issue only occur in the connection between Windows 8.1 and Server 2008.
Please check if you have installed the update kb2984006.
To resolve this issue caused by update 2989039, install update rollup 2984006. For more information, please refer to the following KB.

  • After recent upgrade to Yosemite on Macbook air bluetooth audio cuts out and associated video stops with audio. Likewise with airplay and Apple TV. I have deleted all my saved wifi connections and restarted numerous times. I do not expect a resolutio

After recent upgrade to Yosemite on Macbook air bluetooth audio cuts out and associated video stops with audio. Likewise with airplay and Apple TV. I have deleted all my saved wifi connections and restarted numerous times. I do not expect a resolution from the community, but hope to get the attention of Apple engineers. If you are having same problems or have a miracle cure I am all ears.

May start my own thread, but I'm having similar issues.
I've been using an old iMac (running 10.7.5) and Apple TV for years with no issues. Last week I bought a new Macbook Pro running Yosemite and have had audio issues multiple times. The weird thing is that sometimes it works flawlessly, other times (like now) I spend half an hour just trying to get a song to play.
My issues are: When I got to "computers" in Apple TV to stream my music, my music is sometimes chopper or intermittent, and I seen to know when it's going to happen based on the status wheel just before it plays. When I choose a song, the status wheel will spin for an unusually long time, usually an indicator that the audio is either not going to work, or stutter.
When it does finally pull up a song, the playhead sits at the beginning of the song for a good 3-5 seconds before actually playing. Then, when it starts playing, it's all downhill. It will play a few seconds, drop out, play a few more seconds, drop out, and then ultimately the playhead will keep moving across the song as if it's playing, but there's no audio.
Again, this is a new phenomenon never experienced by me. I've tried everything I could think of, some of them all at once:
    • restart Apple TV
    • restart Macbook Pro
    • quite iTunes/open
    • turn off Home Sharing on iTunes then reconnect it
    • unplugging and cycling both my modem and router
None of these have alleviated the problem.
The odd thing is, like this morning, the audio started up perfectly and never gave me any issues. It wasn't until later in the day that it started. Perhaps after the macbook pro had been put to sleep? Not sure.
Regardless, this is an annoying trait, one that's new to me and my system (as stated, worked flawlessly until my new purchase), and is 100% limited to either a) the macbook pro b) Yosemite or c) both of them.
