Audio Delay

Hi,
I'm trying to add a delay in one of the signals that is generated in my system, so I want to be able to add a delay to one of the signals so that signal lags the other signal so using when using headphones it sounds like the sound is coming from either the right/left channel. I want the amplitude of both the signals to be the same and I just want to add a delay, so for example If I delayed the left channel speaker by 0.005 then the user should be able to tell that the sound is coming from the right channel even though the amplitudes of both the signals are the same. I've attched my attempt at this. I want one of the signals to be delayed continuosuly and not just at the onset. So I want one of the channels to be delayed by a certain amount of time compared to the other channel so using headphones it sounds like sound is coming from one of the sides of the head.
Thanks

Several things about your VI do not make much sense.
1. Delaying one random signal with respect to another is completely meaningless. The sounds are totally uncorrelated before the delay so the ear/brain/mind system will not be able to detect any difference after the delay. If they are correlated, only generate one signal and modify it in two different ways. Try a sinusoidal signal.
2. Changing t0 will not have any effect. Sound Output Write ignores the timing information in the waveforms.
3. Since you are using error status as one of the ways to stop the VI, it would make more sense to wire it to the output of the Sound Output Write.vi to catch all the errors. Wiring errors through the signal generation VIs is probably a good idea also.
Here is a version which changes the phase of one signal with respect to the other using sine waves. It has some small glitches when the phase is changed but it does seem to "move" the apparent source position. I am not sure exactly where the speakers are hidden in my computer so I cannot verify the performance.  For my old ears it seemed that the position changes were more noticeable with lower frequencies.  Delay Right is the phase of one signal in degrees. The other signal has the pahse set to zero.

  • Audio/video out of sync (audio delay) with PowerBeats wireless earphones.

I am having a problem with audio/video sync between my  PowerBeats Wireless earphones with my MacPro and MacBookPro. I have tried pairing, playing the video, pausing the video, turning off the PowerBeats, tuning the PowerBeats on, then starting the video playback again. I have the same audio delay so this not working for me. Anyone have an update as to how to fix this audio/video sync problem?

I am playing MPEG-4 movie files. I did open MPlayerX from my dock, then pulled down File to select Open which then did show the folder where these movie files are stored.  Then I was able to select a movie file, open it, and use "Decrease Audio Delay" to closely sync the audio with the video. I say closely because it is not perfect. Rather than stepping each increase or decrease in one tenth of a second, perhaps a finer adjustment would have been in milliseconds. This is the adjustment that I have with my AVR to sync the audio with the video, so I know this is a possible increment adjustment. The perfect adjustment was in between -0.4 and -0.5 second, however, this was not possible in one tenth second adjustments. The closest adjustment was with -0.4 second rather than with -0.5 second. So, adjustments in milliseconds could have been very near a perfect sync. Perhaps later versions of MPlayer will offer the adjustment selection in milliseconds. Nevertheless, this is working much, much better than before. Thank you so much. I have spent most of this day researching this problem and you have come up with by far the best solution. This problem goes all the way back to 2010 and possibly beyond for Apple products. There are hundreds of reports documenting out of sync audio/video issues with no solution that works as well as MPlayerX. Even the Beats support staff have no idea of how to resolve the audio/video out of sync.

Willy, the procdedure you describe works perfectly for AppleTV G1. In fact, I frequently play DTS music discs ripped to my iTunes library as Apple Lossless (ALAC) and synched to the ATV. What happens is that, as far as iTunes and the ATV are concerned, a conventional stereo 16/44 audio file is being played; however my reciever detects the DTS data stream, and instead of outputting static, it decodes the 5.1 channels correctly. This process parallels the way DTS discs were designed to be played back: a conventional CD player is connceted, via digital out, to a DTS-aware reciever/pre-amp and the two channels of static are recognized as 6 channels of DTS-encoded audio.
However this process will only work if the player (CD, ATV, PC, etc.) sends a "bit-perfect" 16 bit/44.1 khz data stream to the decoding device. In the case of ATV G2 and G3, as has been discussed elsewhere, the unit resmaples all audio - including 16/44 PCM (Redbook CD)  - to 16/48. While this is not a big deal for conventional audio CDs, MP3s, and AAC files, it mangles the fragile DTS datastream and renders it undecodable. The resulting static that you hear is just like the static you would hear if you played a DTS CD on a non-DTS capable system.
Sadly, I'm not aware of any easy way around this. You could use a program like Foobar (and the DTS plugin) to convert your DTS CDs to 6-ch .wav or .flac file. From there you could transcode the file to AC-3 and then mux it into a video container that ATV supports. You may need add a dummy video track, for iTunes/AppleTV to be ok with the file, though I'm not sure. This may be a lot of work.
Sorry for the bad news. I wish that the iTunes/ATV ecosystem had better multi-channel audio support.

  • 1-2 Second Audio Delay after installing windows 7

I installed windows 7 on monday but whenever i do anything that has audio it is always delayed by -2 seconds.
For example when playing Dragon Age Origins an npc's mouth moves then a second latter the audio finally comes.
When listening to music it isnot that noticable since it is just audio but when i pause or stop it the audio continues for -2 seconds.
When watching videos on Hulu it is the same as games where the voice comes about -2 seconds after the person's mouth moves.
I have everything up to date via the auto updater and checked on here to verify the correct drivers are installed and they are indeed the latest.
Everything worked fine when i had vista but this issue may not be big to some but since i am a big very gamer this is a major problem and if not fixed soon i will remove the card and use the crappy onboard sound.
Any help fixin this issue would be greatly apreciated.
Edit: Forgot to mention that i use the creative sound blaster x-fi titanium card
Edit: I managed to fix it by deleteing EVERYTHING Creative and using ONLY the newest driver from the site, however doing this pretty much makes my card nothing more than a fancy onboard sound card since it doesn't have any of it's features.
The updater doesn't detect my card and when it does and i install anything from the list i get this audio delay issue.

If you are running FCP 4.5 and OSX 10.4.9, >>THIS THREAD<<</a> may be of interest.

  • Long Audio Delay

I'm running on Mac 10.7.3 using the latest free trial of Adobe Connect.
I'm experiencing very long audio delays (5 seconds or more) when in a meeting room. I've searched the forums and found this   Re: Long audio delay By jonturkle, posted Nov 20, 2008 by this doesn't seem to match my situation as I'm not in a hosted environment or behind any firewalls that would restrict ports. (Or at least I don't think anything like this should be going on)
Video streams fine, so it doesn't seem to be a bandwidth problem, just a lag with audio.
Has anyone got any ideas what might be causing this and how it can be fixed?
    Thanks
    James

By free trial of Adobe Connect, are you talking about Hosted Trial? or did you build a server?
If it's Hosted trial, then you are in a hosted environment.
In the upper right corner of your meeting, see the vertical green bar.  Click that - to see your connection /latency.
In the room, choose Meeting / Preferences.
Set your preferences for bandwidth to DSL/Cable
Then run the audio setup wizard.

  • Turn off the audio delay?

My question is pretty straightforward and simple.
Is there any way that I can turn off the ~2 seconds audio delay from the AirPort Express audio output?
    Thanks!

    Not really.
iTunes uses a QuickTime CODEC to convert audio files to Apple Lossless, and then, uses AirTunes to send them to the AX. In turn, the AX uses built-in software that converts the Apple Lossless to an Encoded Digital Audio format. From there, digital audio is sent to a optical transceiver to convert the electrical signal to an optical one before sending it to the innermost part of the audio port. For analog, the AX has a built-in DAC to convert the Encoded Digital Audio to Analog which is sent to the same audio port.
One operational glitch is the fact that, as the AX doesn't have a local clock circuit, when the incoming data is interrupted, as it is when you change songs in iTunes, there is no longer a digital output to feed the DAC, which loses lock as a result. This is typically "heard" as the delay you are experiencing.

  • Audio delay when call is answered, CUCM 8.0

I have a client who is reporting an audio delay when a call is made to an external number. Call setup is fine and ringing begins immediately after the last digit is dialed.  When the called party answers there's a 1 or 2 second delay before either party can hear each other.
Outbound calls are routed to a SIP trunk.  I am suspecting that an MTP is required but checking that off causes all calls to fail.
I then discovered that the only MTP defined in CUCM is the default and this is in a different device pool than the SIP trunk with the delay issue.
Before I got through a possilbe hardware purchase (router, dsps, etc.) for the site with the problem I was hoping someone could confirm that this may in fact be the issue.
    Thoughts?

Under older versions of CUCM, you can set that same parameter as a global Service Parameter for the CallManager process. You can try that. Newer versions pushed the setting down to the individual trunk level. Be aware the global setting will affect all calls on all SIP trunks, so test carefully after the change.

  • Audio Delay In Timeline

    Hello Everyone
It's me again still having audio problems. The next problem is there's a audio delay in the timeline, someone is speaking and I can see the video and audio not in sync.
How can I fix this problem?
    Thank yoy
    Sabrina

First, how are you viewing this? You need to view on an external NTSC monitor or TV at the very least. Viewing on your computer screen may not be accurate.
Is the delay consistent over time, or does audio drift further out of sync over time?
Do you see a red number at the top left of a clip, next to the clip name? If so, control-click on the red number and correct the sync there.
If no red number, it could be something else. What tape format? How was it captured?

  • Audio Delayed When Exporting To Camera

When exporting the movie to my camera, the audio is not quite synced with the video on the Mini-DV tape. I have determined the offset to be about 8 frames. If I then import that video, extract the audio, and then move it to the left 8 frames, it is then synced with the video again. If I encode the project with Toast after I have it synced, and then play the result on the Mac with the DVD Player, it is fine. But if I export it to the camera again, the audio is shifted again on the Mini-DV tape. I have a G4 dual 450 Mhz running OS 10.4 (the latest) with the latest version of iMovie and exporting to a Sony DCR-TRV900 via the firewire.

"..When recording it back to Mini-DV tape this way, is there a significant amount of loss of data even though it is coming over the firewire connection vs the normal export function?.."
No data loss, Gary. This is the proper way to export your edited movie.
You DO get data loss when transferring to a DVD, as a DVD is encoded differently from DV ..the MPEG encoding of a DVD involves compression of the data, leaving only information about the differences between frames of video, instead of keeping the content of all the frames.
You DON'T have any such loss when exporting ('Saving') back to miniDV tapes, as the exact same data which was copied from the tapes, when importing into iMovie, is sent back out to a tape.
There's no data loss, and there should be no audio delay. You can then import again from such a tape and there'll still be no loss. But re-importing from a DVD will produce data loss, as the decompression from MPEG to DV cannot completely rebuild all the data which was in the compressed MPEG data stream on the DVD.
So save your edited work back to tape, Gary, in case you ever need to 'reprise' it, and only create DVDs for sending through the mail, or to present your video with fancy interactive menus, or so that you can easily find particular 'chapters' in your video.

  • Audio delay in exported movie. Help!

I have hdv video that I captured in premiere. Watching the imported video, there is no problem. But when I try try to export the movie to anything, there is a significant delay in the audio. Windows movie maker actually can read the original and when exported, the movie maker file audio matches the video (although movie maker does not maintain the proper aspect ratio).
Am I missing a setting somewhere?
    Thanks

    Sorry.
    Premiere Pro CS3
    Alienware MJ12
    3GB Ram, 2 HDD
Video originally recorded on Canon XH-A1
Video captured in premiere from Sony HVR-M15U
    Video is NTSC 1080i 60
    Project settings are HDV 1080i
original and exported video go to default my documents folder
I just import the mpeg2 file into the composition, drag it onto the timeline and then try to export it. I've tried exporting to different formats and with different settings, but always have the same audio delay. The original mpeg2 file plays fine in media player.
    Thanks

  • Encoding Audio delay using iDVD ...

Why are Apple not rectifying this bug?
iDVD appears, even to the most advanced user, to have crashed when it comes to the Encoding Audio section. But it hasn't. Let it run. Yes I know that even if you check the Force Quit menu it shows iDVD as "not responding" but it is working.
Come on Apple - sort this out.
    MacBookPro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

iDVD 6 Encoding audio "delay." So am I supposed to believe that iDVD is actually "working" on encoding the audio even when after 12 hours it says in the Force Quit menu that iDVD is "not responding" and there's a spinning cursor?? Balderdash!
I have spent the greater part of the last 3 days trying to finish off a massive project for my family: transferring all our old home videos to DVD. Actually, I spent many many additional hours adding a soundtrack with songs and sound effects to these silent movies. And all for nothing!
Trying to fix the problem of iDVD stopping responding during audio encoding, we bought a 500 Gb hard drive to clear up more space on the hard drive: $$!
I even tried turning off the audio track and just burning the dvd without it. Not even that worked! It still freezes up.
APPLE, if you are listening. PLEASE PLEASE FIX THIS. This was to be my Christmas Gift to the family, and your product has FAILED.

  • Quicktime video recording - audio delay

If i try to record a video using quicktime and my built-in webcam, and have the audio volume turned up so i can monitor as i record, there is a delay.
This is the only program that delays audio as i record. To be clear, the final video is not out of sync, its just the audio delays if i try to listen as i record (important if you are recording guitar like i do)
Any way to make it not delay?

JTBluesmaker, When you record the computer has to capture the video/audio and then convert the video/audio and then play it back. I believe Quicktime is monitoring the recoding and not the audio input. With that, I would say there going to be a slight delay.
If you have something like Apple's GarageBand you should be able to monitor the audio input.

  • Wow headset audio delay

    hello
i am currently using mac os x mountain lion (clean install) with support team updated drivers (drivers on the website are not working so they sent me modified ones) but i have a audio delay issue. i.e. when i shoot the sound is coming after fire like 100ms. its a little delay but it already ruins my game experience. please help me to fix it. By the way when i am using built in speakers or even airplay speakers its all normal and there is no delay at all
    wow headset wired

The headset works for me... but the control panel does not.
    I get this error:
None of the features work. Not EQ, not voice FX, not THX - NOTHING.
And there is no way to clean uninstall to reinstall the drivers - I am having to manually sniff around the system folder... Try and resintstall - same issue.
Is there not a Beta Driver we can try and help with?
Cause this is an expensive failure right now.
