Hi @bairavan ,
Welcome to the HP Forums!
I would like to take a moment and thank you for using the forum, it is a great place to find answers. For you to have the best experience in the HP forum, I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More.
I grasp that after updating to Windows 8 you have lost your sound.
Have you done all your Windows updates?
Have you ran The HP Support Assistant to aid with HP updates and resolving issues.
Have you tried Using Automated Troubleshooting (Windows 8) to assist with this issue.
Here is a link to  No Sound from the Speakers (Windows 8) to assist you.
You can also try this.
Open Device Manager and uninstall the driver and restart your computer. This will cause the driver to be reinstalled when you restart. This has worked for other people. Another thing you can try is to disable the audio in Device Manager, wait a couple of minutes and then re-enable. This has also previously worked.
If you still do not have any sound, I would do a recovery back to factory.
Performing an HP System Recovery (Windows 8). This will take it back to Windows 7.
During the recovery process, you will receive the opportunity to backup your personal files to prevent data loss. If you have not done one yet I suggest you do one now.
Restoring Files that were Backed Up Using HP Recovery Manager (Windows 8)
Once you have completed the recovery, here is a link to Upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 8 to assist you in redoing the upgrade.
Please let me know the outcome, if you would like further assistance.

  • [SOLVED] Default audio device no longer works after reboot

After today's reboot, the audio device no longer works. E.g., VLC says:
    Audio output failed:
The audio device "default" could not be used:
    No such file or directory.
    This is the console log:
[0x1394138] main libvlc: Running vlc with the default interface. Use 'cvlc' to use vlc without interface.
Fontconfig warning: "/etc/fonts/conf.d/50-user.conf", line 9: reading configurations from ~/.fonts.conf is deprecated.

[0x7fac41055118] main decoder error: failed to create audio output
The strange thing is that the sound card does in fact work; e.g. the sound test for "HDA Intel PCH", the first entry in my KDE Audio Settings, works. But the entry "default" does not and I suppose that is also the device that VLC is complaining about.
I've tried blacklisting the HDMI driver and switched to the other audio output modules in VLC. I've also checked I'm still member of the "audio" group.
    Edit:
P.S. Solved this myself. I had a USB-to-MIDI adapter cable plugged in during boot, which seems to have been causing these problems. I suppose systemd thought it was a USB sound card? I was wondering why dmesg said something about USB sound when the computer doesn't have any USB sound devices. Hardware detection epic fail. Although I guess the cable counts as a MIDI device at least, so in a way it's correct.
So it looks like I'll always have to unplug the MIDI cable before rebooting.

  • *FIXED* No sound and 'No Audio Device' in Control Panel. *FIX

I?m having a problem with my sound. Basically all I get is a system sound, which means no sounds from itunes but the error prompt sounds still play. I?m tempted to say that this is a detection issue because of several things:
-First, when looking in the ?sounds and audio devices? in the control panel I get grayed out selections and a ?no audio device?.
-Secondly, when running the directX diagnostic tool (typing ?dxdiag? in the ?run? window) I get several troubling indications. First under device I have no manufacturer or product ID. Second under drivers I have (copied from dxdiag text file):
    Driver Name: ctaud2k.sys
    Driver Version: 5.2.000.96 (English)
    Driver Attributes: Final Retail
    WHQL Logo'd: Yes
    Date and Size: 8//2006 4:45:38, 499584 bytes
    Other Files:
Seems hunky-doorey but then I have a note at the bottom that reads:
Sound Test Result: Failure at step 3 (DirectSoundCreate): HRESULT = 0x88780078 (No driver)
I have seen another similar post that seemed to have the same problem, but they didn?t provide much information and the fix was to pull out the audio card, run start up, turn it off, and then put it back in and run start up. If this is what needs to be done, could I have a picture or something of what the sound card looks like?
This problem started when I tried to update my sound card and since then my sound has been? possessed? or prone to working at sometimes and then (most of the time)failing at others.
Here is the dxdiag.txt file without the lengthy directShow filters and directx components:

I found that once you reinstall your sound card you need to make sure you hook everything back up correctly.
basically all you need to do is run a start up with your sound card out ofyou computer and then re-run start up with the card back in.

  • How to solve High Definition Audio Device issue on Vostro 5470

I have a Vostro 5470 and after installing Windows 8.1 Professional, I'm getting the following issue.
"This device cannot start. (Code 10)
    {Operation Failed}
    The requested operation was unsuccessful."
Does any one have any idea how to fix this? I have downloaded the most recent version of the drive from dell support site, but nothing!

Make sure the Windows Audio Service is running.

I have downloaded the most recent version of the drive from dell support site
You can only get the Realtek audio driver from Dell, not the High Definition Audio Device driver. That one is the Windows native audio driver. To update it you would have to let Windows go online to search for an update from Microsoft.
From your screen shot it appears that both the Realtek audio driver and the Windows native audio driver ("High Definition Audio Device") are both showing. Normally only one would show up in the Device Manager. I would try re-installing Windows and not installing any Realtek driver. Without a Realtek driver Windows will install its native driver and produce audio. If it failed to do that then the error would be due to hardware failure or some kind of problem within Windows.

  • Unable to combine two distinct USB Audio devices into one Aggregate Device

I'm trying to use Audio MIDI Setup to combing two separate USB audio speaker systems into "one" so that iTunes will play through both simultaneously.
I can create the "Aggregate Device" and add the two USB devices but I can't get the two checkboxes to remain selected after I "Apply" changes when setting them up in "stereo". If I set them to Multichannel quadraphonic then I can select both devices but only one of them will play sound...I assume because iTunes doesn't output in Quadraphonic.
I've searched these forums and the Interwebs and hear of people having success (and difficulties). Difficulties mostly because of the misunderstanding of what a "device" is. These are both EXTERNAL USB devices. One is SoundSticks and the other is a USB audio converter that passes analog into an amp.
Why is this so difficult? Oh, I know...because  wants to sell you $80 Airport Express to stream music wirelessly to devices that are literally ON THE SAME DESK!
Anyone have success (or confirm more failures) with what should be a trivial exercise...

The idea with the Aggregate Device is to allow several audio devices to behave as though they are one multi-port device with discrete one to one I/O mapping. It is not intended for one stereo source to feed more than 2 channels of output.
    However...
Set up your aggregate devices as 4 audio outputs, install Jack (http://jackaudio.org/) and use that as a virtual router with qjackctl.
You may also get similar results with Soundflower (http://cycling74.com/products/soundflower/)

  • MBP 17" Boot Camp Firewire Audio Devices

    Hello Everyone.
If your having installation / dead audio issues with a firewire audio device in Boot Camp running Windows XP such as the Presonus Firepod or Tascam FW 1884 you should try downgrading your firewire drivers from Service Pack 2 to SP1.
    As showed in this article:
    http://www.rme-audio.com/english/techinfo/fw800sp2.htm
Please note I also had to rename my services pack 2 file (C:\Windows\Driver Cache\sp2.cab) to another name so windows wouldnt use it when downgrading.
Both my Firepod & Tascam now opperate as expected.
After a day of searching and crying I found (loosly) the answer in these forums.
Thanks everyone, hope this info is useful to someone else too. ^_^

Mac Book Pro 17"   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

After two complete reloads of OS X, Boot Camp and installing XP Pro again both times the driver CD still fails to run.
Also I cannot update firmware at all. Running firmware updater
from utilities fails with a message that this firmware is for specific machines and does not apply to this computer. (not an exact quote)
Downloading and running the firmware update for MBPro also fails with a message that this computer does not need updating. Made sense to me since the 17" was released after Boot Camp but the "not for this computer" error when trying to run it through Firmware Updater makes me wonder...
I do see that the driver CD extracts some folders\files to the users Temp folder in Windows XP, I copied those out but have not figure out the manual install of drivers yet. In fact I don't see any drivers - just misc config files and the various script files to run the drivers application.
Going to run it again this afternoon after XP Pro reloads yet again and try looking in the Windows\Temp folder for the drivers, check everywhere to see if they actually extract.
After that it should be fairly simple to manually install them and circumvent the auto-install failure of the CD.
    Will post later with results.

  • Audio Device Supported by This Application is Not Detec

Just bought my Audigy4 and installed it without any problems last Thursday 3/30. On Saturday I browsed the creative website and went to automatic updates and followed all the instructions. The updates had some problems with "Regsvr32 failures" and upon rebooting found that the applications that are depending on the proper detection of the sound device are not working. I get "Audio Device Supported by this Application is Not Detected" errors. So, I called creative support since I was within the 60 day window. Their first recommendation was to remove all software following their clean uninstall procedures, swap the card out with another slot and then reinstall the software. Well, same results, though more installation errors. I called back today and the technician said to create a new user account and try. I asked him what the next step would be if this didn't work and he said; "Reinstall Windows". Can you believe that! I'm flabergasted that Creative would expect me to scratch my dri've, reinstall windows because they write crappy software. Well, not just to complalin now that I have it off my chest-I'm wondering if I am the only one who has experienced this problem, or if others have faced and overcome the same hurdle.

Good luck, guys ... I had the same problem, among others, after updating drivers for Audigy2 ZS. Lost speakers and couldn't get them back, too. I finally managed to clear out all of the Creative stuff and reinstall the drivers from the installation CD, but the speaker assignments were permanently hosed. I even swapped the Audigy2 into a different slot on the motherboard, and it just got worse, until I was down to one speaker even though Windows said 5.. What I ended up doing was spending the majority of today restoring the entire Windows partition--I had an Acronis backup from last year on DVD--but it still isn't working quite the same.
No more auto updates EVER. And it would be awfully nice if Creative would put some of their previous version drivers back up.

  • No sound at all - "THotkey message: Audio device is not supported"

Device Manager lists: Legacy Audio Driver and says the device is working properly. Yet I have no sound,  and I have troubleshooted from almost every angle - even tried to download a new driver (RealTek) and still nothing.
My laptop is a Toshiba Satellite Pro S300M and I have Windows XP Pro.
Each time my computer boots (and this doesn't happen in safe mode) two messages appear:
THotkey: This Audio Device is not supported
    and
    TouchED Error
    Retrieval of HotKey Failed
    Error Code: 0x00031402, 0x00000002
And...as per "Jerry's" advice, I downloaded the HotKey utility and the util common modules. Still nothing. No sound.
    Help ?
    Thanks,
    S

I know this is an old post--but I came across it when I had the same problem in 2013, so I am posting the solution I found to the problem.  I found that the following things resolved the problem.  First--for the Thotkey problem.  Turn off the hibernate option.  You do this by using the power option (Settings--Control Panel--Power Options--Hibernate tab--unclick the Enable Hibernation box) and  then restart your computer.  For me, this resolved the THotkey message, but still no sound. Then, to resolve the no sound problem.  My Satellite Pro S300-EZ1514 has a key sequence that turns speakers on and off.  The ESC key shows a picture of a speaker with sound waves, a slash, and a speaker.  By hitting the FN key and the ESC key together, you toggle the speakers off (a grayed out speaker image) and on (a yellow-colored speaker with sound waves).  Make sure you have the speakers on (the colored image). Unfortunately, I found this solution after I had uninstalled Realtek Audio Device--downloaded new drivers--and basically spent A LOT of time researching.

  • New MacBook Pro Unibody Jun 2011 - No Audio Device / No Output Device Installed. Please Help.

    Dear All,
I have installed OSX Lion on the 20th July 2011 and the problem started with the audio device installed. Itunes wont even play and iDVD and you tube would work without audio. I have tried everything from system diagnostic re-booting back to original snow leopard on 10.6.7 including taking it for service. The audio works intermittently when I re-start my MacBook but eventually disappears back to square one. Until restarted again.
I am still under my 90 days from purchase date and the problem is I am no longer in London where I originally purchased the MacBook from - I moved to Delhi, India with my family and they don't have geniuses here only local service/ technicians who already tried fixing the problem.
Very disappointed after spending nearly £1,600.00 for this.
I don't want to go back to the local service centre for them to restart my MacBook to prove audio device is working.
Is there any other option for me like refund or replacement?
    Many Thanks
    Shah

    Dear Lex,
Thank you for your advice above.
I have updated latest iTunes 10.4.1(10) 64 bit.
I have updated latest OSX Lion: 10.7.1 Build 11B26
Still the problem occurs. When laptop restarts the sound stays for 5-10 min before shutting down intermittently. In iTunes the music will not even run - other applications such as YouTube - it will run but no sound.
I have tried everything now and I am certain it must be a software connected issue I am experiencing only.
    Please can you help.
    Many Thanks

  • No audio (and "no audio device") in WIndows XP on my MacBook Pro 17"

    Greetings,
I just installed Windows XP SP2 on my new MacBook Pro 17" and everything is working smoothly EXCEPT that there's no sound in Windows from the built-in speakers, and in fact the Control Panel reads "No audio device." I have already successfully installed the Boot Camp drivers from my Leopard DVD. I also tried to run the Boot Camp 2.1 update (downloaded directly from the Apple site) but the installer cannot be run and gives error 2762, whatever that is. Finally, I've seen on some forum posts that certain Realtek drivers may fix similar problems on other machine, so I downloaded and installed Realtek R2.27 high definition audio driver but that doesn't seem to have done the trick for me.
I'm guessing this problem could be fixed easily by the correct audio driver but I can't figure out what that is or how to find it. Please help, any advice would be appreciated!

  • Macbook Pro 13" (Late 2011) - High Definition Audio Device - Code 10

Hi, i installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit via Boot Camp on my new Macbook Pro 13" (Late 2011). Driver Disk was installed, but the "High Definition Audio Device" couldn't be started. • No audio device installed after upgrading to windows 7???

after upgrading to windows 7 audio is not working error audio device not install driver error...

    Hi,
You will need to identify your CPU and chipset. CPU-z is a free and safe utility that can do that for you.
If your system has an Intel chipset with disccrete or onboard graphics or an NVIDIA chipset with onboard graphics, then the drivers are here at this Realtek download page.
If your notebook is an AMD CPU and NVIDIA chipset, with a discrete graphics module installed, then the driver for your Conexant CX20549-12 will be here.
Post you results here in your thread so others rsearching for the same information can benefit from it.
