Audio - device - no audio - inputs?

Hi all,
I'll try to make it brief (if I can)
On my imac I opened imovie, started a new event recording with built in camera. Bla Bla Bla... play some guitar... 18 minutes later stop. Play it back, no audio. Microphone works fine in skype, ichat, and i see the level bars in voiceover. in the other programs I can choose my soundcard for recording and playback and I have it set to presonis firewire. But I cannot do this in imovie. yet it should record with the macs microphone.
1. Why didn't it?
2. Can I set audio preferences for Imovie?
3. Was there a conflict?
4. Can I use an external microphone while recording with the built in camera?
5. Is there an easy way to test all this?
I use Garage Band And Logic Studio also but I just want to make a simple movie without plugging in a digital camera or UN-plugging my firewire interface.
Thanks!
Kelly

Just click the icon on each track that stops it acting as a live input. It looks like a sound wave. Only have them clicked orange when using the track to record! I don't know if that will solve your problem!

  • Sample rate off the audio input and out devices do not match - what to do?

This is fundamental, I know, but nevertheless I can't find my way around it. I get this error message when trying to recor:
Sample rate off the audio input and out devices do not match
and am asked to do this:
Use the appropriate operating system or audio device control panel to adjust the sample rates of the input and output devices to use the same settingt.
I have defined the sample rate to 44.1/16 bit in accordance with my inbuild soundcardt.
I am trying to record from LineIn.
When running on a M-Audio sound card I don't face any problems.

You're sure you have set BOTH the input and output settings to 44.1 16 bit?
Which version of Windows are you running?  There are a number of posts on this forum about how to fully access both the Windows Mixer and the Mixer for your soundcard.  Especially, you need to ensure that all "Windows Sounds" are turned OFF.

  • How can I get my audio input and output devices back? I have no sound and cannot see any of the devices in Audio MIDI Setup..??

Hi, I tried to set up a new output audio device on my mac that would have multiple outputs (iBox Twist speaker and my internal speaker) but when I went to click onto one of the iBox Twist (there were 2 options available: iBox Twist and iBox Twist Stereo), Audio MIDI Setup crashed and when I finally got that back open, I found that there were no audio input or output devices to be found. My sound is working, as when I turn on my iMac, the starting sound still plays, however the volume control in the menu bar is no longer a black colour, but grey and when I try to change the sound on my keyboard it does not change. This already happened to me once, and after 3 hours I managed to fix it very simply (switching off Mac, unplugging power cord, leaving for 15 seconds, plug power cord back in and switch Mac back on, holding Alt, Cmd, P and R keys until you hear the Starting Up sound twice) however this same technique that fixed it once before is not working this time and I am still stuck without sound. I have tried Repair Permissions, rebooting in Safe Mode, Hardware Test and checking for Software Updates. Has anyone else had this problem and managed to fix it?
Thanks in advance for any help anyone can give me!

In case anyone has had the same problem as me, I have just managed to fix this by doing the following:
    Switch off Mac
Switch back on in Safe Mode (Hit power button, then hold Shift key until a loading bar appears at the bottom of the screen).
    Switch off Mac again
Remove power cord and wait 15 seconds
Plug power cord back in and hold down the keys alt, cmd, p, r all at the same time until you hear Starting chime for a second time and hopefully your audio will back.

  • Audio input device missing since repairing permissions?

Help! I advised my husband to repair permissions on his macbook today so he did and now he's angry with me because one of his audio input devices is no longer showing up in system preferences. It's something called a "firebox" and he uses it to record live audio. He swears it is plugged in correctly and it worked yesterday so now apparently it is all my fault that it doesn't work tonight. He has already tried restarting (my favorite troubleshooting option). What can we do? applecare is already closed, of course, so we can't call.

I've been googling on "Pavillion 23 touch screen". I don't see that model sporting any "line in" port.
Are you sure that's a line in input or the headphone input?
Try to connect a headphone to it and see if sound come out of it.

  • Missing audio input devices

I have 5 mac pro systems. All running the same OS and software versions. All using the AJA Io HD as the primary A/V capture device. 1 of the mac pros can select the Aja IO HD as the audio input in Soundtrack...on the other 4 the option is missing. But if you click configure device, the Aja is there..youjust can't assign it..I a able to use the Aja as an audio input in Quicktime on all machines as well as FCP, Audacity, etc..so I can't see how it would be a driver issue and I have used the exact same configuration in the aja control panel..any ideas?

Well, I'm still on the same machine I once installed Leopard (10.5) on, and I've upgraded to Snow Leopard to Lion and now to Mountain Lion, the only thing I always had to replace after installation was the AppleHDA.kext (in System>Library>Extensions). The version I have is 1.8.4fc3. But there's no guarantee that that'll work for you, chances are you have different hardware.
If you use an audio interface with drivers, you won't need the .kext - but you don't get the built in inputs (which are crap anyway, compared to an external (24 bits) audio interface).

  • Cant record into to logic pro 9 using samson l1200 live mixer, System/Pref/Audio input tab says selected device has no input control

Hi Im new to this so bare with me..When I connect my Samson l1200 live usb mixer to my Imac 7,1 Intel duo core 3gb ram, osx10.6.8, via usb cable to record vocals/instruments, in System Pref/Audio/Output tab is set to mixer's UsbAudioCodec driver, (Im able to hear playback into headphones via the mixer, and hear the mic when spoken into it but cant record a track into Logic...System/Pref/Audio input tab says selected device has no input control, Ive set the input/output settings in Logic to UsbAudioCodec but still no good...Would it be either the way the mixer is set up? or is this mixer (Samson l1200) not compatible with my particular Imac? I hope I may be able to help as Im only a student trying to record my band thanks

    I perfectly understand your problem.
First... just to make sure, in Logic's preferences /Audio make sure Universal Track Mode IS checked, it should be enabled. (I think it probably is just checking)
Second... if you record a track in a new Logic project and then go to the next track to record an overdubbed guitar part, are both parts recorded on the 2nd track?
What I'm asking is overdubbing working differently for two or three recorded tracks as opposed to overdubbing with an imported track.
What I think is happening is you have the main stereo output being recorded into Logic so if you playback an imported or recorded track from Logic while recording a 2nd track (overdub), both are going to be recorded on the 2nd track.
I took a look at the manual, here's the relevant sections.
34 – SEND – USB input send switch
The USB INPUT switch allows you to select one of
two stereo (or two channel) signal paths to feed the
USB output to send to the connected PC. When the
INPUT switch is in the up position, the USB signal will
feed from the MAIN left right mix. When the INPUT
switch is in the down position, the USB signal will
feed from the AUX 1 and AUX 2 buses which enables
you to create a unique mix to send to the PC.
    35 – RETURN – USB return switch
The USB RETURN switch allows you to select one of
two stereo return paths to receive USB audio from
the connected PC. When the ASSIGN switch is in the
up position, the USB signal will return to the MAIN
mix bus. When the ASSIGN switch is in the down
position, the USB signal will return to the last pair
of stereo channels which enables you to playback a
recorded track in the MAIN mix, and you can use the
channels AUX sends to feed any of the AUX buses.
This will let you hear the USB playback tracks in the
    monitor mixes.
36 – MONITOR – USB headphone enable switch
Press the USB MONITOR switch down if you want
to hear the signal from the USB return in the
    headphones.

  • Why don't USB stereo audio input devices work with  the iPod Touch 4G?

The Fostex AR-4i and the Line6 Mobile In provide stereo audio input via USB on the iPads and the iPhone 4.
Why can't these devices work on an iPod Touch 4G?

Does the manufactur say it works with the iPod Touch?  Many accessories do not work with all three iDevices (iPod Touch, iPad and iPhone)

  • Make audio input device application specific?

Is there a way to set the audio input to switch between devices automatically, based on what application is in the foreground? For example, set it to Built-in Microphone when Skype is in front, and Built-in Input when Auadacity is in front? It's a pain in the neck to have to go to System Preferences several times per day and manually change it back and forth.

In Skype, from the Skype menu choose Preferences: click on the Audio button in the toolbar. You will see menus for Audio output, Audio input and Ringing. You can, for example, set Audio Input to 'Built-in Microphone Internal Microphone' (or equivalent) and this is independent of what you have System Preferences>Sound set to.

  • 10.4.10 Update kills most USB audio input devices for iChatAV

I have a Logitech Quickcam 5000 Pro that has a built in Mic. The UVC compliant camera still works, but under 10.4.9 the mic worked also; however, it no no longer shows up as an audio input device.
Intel Mac Mini 2GB RAM / MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

Add another to the pile, slightly different: No audio support for my FIREWIRE based audio interface.
    Running 10.4.10, software update installed.
OSX recognizes it, at any sample rate I want to use it at.
Sound setup, everything else (my whole entire studio) recognizes it.
iChat AV, when I go to the video tab to select "microphone" will give me default of none and then my device name (mLAN audio network). As soon as I select my device, the microphone option disappears completely. The only way to get the selection option back is to restart iChat, upon which the problem repeats itself.

  • No audio input device found

    Hello -
went to Skype with Sis this evening and I could hear and see her - she could see but not hear me.
Had a look around and message = No Audio Input Device Found.
Had a look on the net and cant find a solution.
If anyone could steer me in the right direction I would be grateful.
    every good wish,
    David.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    I worked this out myself.
Get into Hardware and Sound, then Manage Audio Devices.
So when you disable a device it disappears from the menu you are looking at. You have to enable it. Trouble is you cant enable it because you cant see it - its not there for you to right mouse click on. I went into speakers menu rather than microphone menu and right mouse clicked on a speaker icon and it gave me the option of showing everything that was disabled. So I clicked on show disabled devices I went back into microphone menu  and hey presto it was there and I could enable it. I tested it on a sound recording programme and it worked.
It hadnt gone anywhere , you just couldnt see it.
"No Audio Input Device Found" is very misleading - surely "Audio Input Device Disabled" would be better + why make the icon disappear anyway?!

  • No audio input devices on Satellite L100-120

    Hello!
I have Satellite L100-120 Notebook. I have problem setting up audio capture device. Sound works just fine, but there is no audio input device (disabled in sound manager).
I have Windows XP SP3 installed.
    sound driver is sound-psla0-xp-31100
    any ideas?

    Hi there,
did you already tried the genuine sounddrivers from conexant? Maybe your audio input device works after installing the sound card manufacturers driver.
Another reason could be the SP3 which brings besides the benefits some driver related problems with, would be also a option to check the microsoft knowledgebase for some fixes or workarounds.
Just search for conexant sound driver and maybe you will find something.

    Thank you for your help.

MacBook Pro 13" Mid 2012. – And as the link you provided says, the products affected are all pre 2012. After that (or at least in my mac from mid 2012) there is no "'Use audio for:' menu selection" to choose anything from.

  • External stereo device to Powerbook G4 audio input

    Hi
I am trying to convert all my old cassettes into MP3's. I was trying to use Audacity which supposedly can grab the audio from the audio input and record it in MP3 format. It seems that my Powerbook G4 recongnizes the built-in mic, cd device, and the USB/firewire ports as valid audio input devices. How can I connect my cassette recorder to my Powerbook? I tried to connect it to the minijack port (the one with two triangles and a circle inside) but the input was not reconginzed. Can anyone suggest anything please?
Also, (may be a bit out of topic) would iTunes be able to do the recording?
    Regards
    Arijit

I have been unable to get the microphone input with a Viewsonic 22" monitor with webcam to work with either iChat or iVisit with my Mac Pro. There have been other reports on the web about newer versions of the OS 10 inactivating the audio input for several programs. Is this why the microphone does not work or is it true that the audio input does not act as one? If the audio input does not work with an external microphone, what is it for?

  • Remove a Bluetooth Audio Input Device

    Quick question...
I added a friend's Bluetooth headset to my MacBook Pro just to show him how easy it is to integrate Bluetooth devices to OS X, and anyway, I go home, and the Bluetooth headset is still under my audio input devices. How do I remove this out of there? I thought of deleting the Sound Preferences pane, but I don't think that would do the trick...

    I'd try here.

  • Setting up audio input/output devices

I'm running AA3 with an Alesis USB 2.0 mixer attached to my computer. I want the mixer to act as my audio input device, and the computer's soundcard to act as the output. Now, when using AA1.5, I could simply set the audio input device as the USB mixer, and the output device as the soundcard, and I could record and playback without any issue. However, when I go to set the mixer as my input device, AA3 also seems to want to make this my output device. I do not want the mixer to act as the output, I want all output to go through the soundcard. How can I make this distinction in AA3? Let me know if you need more information, I'll be happy to provide it.
    Cheers!
    Sean

    >So, while working in AA1.5, I'd arm a track for recording, hit record, and it would record the sound source I plugged into the mixer. Then I'd hit play, and it would play what I just recorded through my speakers, which are hooked into my soundcard. Then, I'd arm a different track for recording, and once I hit record, I would hear the track I'd just recorded playing through my speakers, while recording a new track, which was being brought in through the mixer. I'm still not entirely clear on why this isn't possible in AA3, or if it is, and I'm just missing something.
That's a different issue. And it's perfectly possible in 3.0, assuming that you have your sound device set up correctly to use ASIO, and Audition's input and output assignments set to use what's available in it. In fact there are more options in 2.0 and 3.0, because if you use the ASIO driver directly, you can use real-time monitoring
through Audition rather than through the mixer direct path (which is the usual way). The advantage is that you can add channel effects like reverb to the monitor mix, which often helps singers. This only applies to the monitor feed though - what's actually recorded is 'dry', so you still have all of the effects options available afterwards. To use this mode set the monitoring to 'Audition Mix'.
But however you look at it, the overall monitoring situation works fine - or believe me, just about every user going would have complained about it by now!
So, you can't really compare AA1.5 and 3.0 from a monitoring point of view - the ASIO situation makes them look somewhat different. 1.5 effectively ignores monitoring - it just uses the Windows APIs and DLLs to record, which is essentially what's provided by the operating system. And that's why it works with any sound device that the OS recognises. But with 2.0 and 3.0 you are entirely reliant on a system that bypasses most of the OS in order to work faster (lower latency).
One of the snags with this is that a lot of sound device providers that aren't producing what might be described as 'pro' devices - in other words the providers of on-board sound chips, and a few more besides - don't always provide anything like an acceptable ASIO driver for their devices, and that's why ASIO4ALL was developed.

with FCE-HD on iMac i have system preferences set to USB-122 Tascam box for audio input/output (works great with GB for instance) but when i try using it for audio input on FCE and the voice-over tool set to USB-122, i hear no audio, the level meter doesn't more, etc, its still taking the audio from the built-in mic.
