Audio "disappears" after resuming VLC

Hi,
I'm on  a fully updated Arch-X86_64/XFCE laptop connected via HDMI to a large screen TV.
I watch Full HD movies this way, preferably using VLC.
I have tried several ALSA/PULSE combinations  with VLC's (advanced) Audio configuration output/device.
In all these audio "combinations",  if I pause VLC, many times (but not always!), I have NO sound after resume.
Searching the Internet, the solution seems to be installing vlc-plugin-pulse.
However, I can't find it neither in the repositories nor in AUR.
Please advise!
Thanks

Does the same happen with using alsa directly? (hw:0 for example, PA would need to be killed for that probably)

  • Audio Disappears After Export

I've come across a bug that's occurred twice to me in the past 3-4 months. When exporting a sequence out of Premiere Pro, the resulting file loses some of its audio. Here are the details:
A section of 10 minutes of audio towards the end of the project disappear in the resulting .mov QuickTime file
    Export settings are
I cannot get the problem to reoccur after it has happened. It seems to be at random.
The first time this issue occurred, I used H.264 as the codec. So I know that does not fix the issue.
Both times I have sent the sequence to Adobe Media Encoder for export.
Here is a screenshot of the project, showing that everything in the audio mixer window is fine, as well as individual tracks in the timeline. I've set in/out points over the section that disappeared in the export. The green audio track in this area is the audio that was missing, the disabled clip above it is scratch audio and is supposed to be disabled.
Can anyone help me figure out why this issue has occurred? Both times it has happened have been in critical scenarios where the file needs to work (one being a backup in case our satellite feed has issues, and this most recent time it happened on our television broadcast without me knowing until after).

    Hi Codyn,
I'm really not sure. And it sounds like it is not easily repeatable. Can you file a bug report? Here is the link: http://adobe.ly/ReportBug

  • All audio disappears after exporting to .mov file

I'm creating a short 'montage' piece, and all audio is muted except for a song which I added into the timeline. I've tried exporting it several times, even replacing the source file for the song, but nothing seems to work. The audio is visible and playing in the timeline, but as soon as I export it, it magically disappears.
    Any suggestions?

Adding to Russ's comments and questions: if you are exporting a file, you get to choose to export only audio, only video or both. Check your setttings in that regard; to complicate matters, this setting sometimes does not stick (a known bug in 10.0.8). If that is the case, the usual workaround is to change some other parameter, make an export (which you can cancel), then go back to the export panel and change it back.

  • PPro CS4 All Audio Disappeared after Adding WAV File

I cannot hear audio in a video I am editing in Premiere Pro CS4 (Win 7 pc). Problem began after I tried to record my voiceover (wav file) using PPro CS4. I saved videos from a digital camera, converted to QuickTime format, imported and was able to listen to both the audio that was originally part of the video and three voiceover files that I previously recorded using different software (I don't remember what). Now I cannot hear audio of any files, wav, wma, etc, using PPro CS4, Windows Media Player, or other software. Any suggestions of what I should do to restore audio to my system?

    Bill:
Thanks for your quick reply. Unfortunately, this is a self-inflicted wound. It turns out I caused the problem by plugging my microphone into the headphone jack. After checking to confirm that my sound card driver is up to date, I glanced at the jack, placed the mike in the proper input port, and voila, I've got sound. I'm back editing my video in CS4. Based on this escapade, I'm sure I will need your advice again soon.

  • Audio disappears after going backwards 10 slides

I have 2 Captivate projects with 30 slides each and mp3 audio on all slides. The audio is imported To Slide. The slide does not advance after the audio finishes. The user needs to use a forward button in the navigation. Everything works fine moving forward. But if the user starts clicking backwards through the presentation the audio will stop playing after the 10th slide. And it doesn't matter where you start moving backwards. It could be slide 30, slide 23  etc. But after 10 slides the audio no longer plays. This problem seems to only happen with HTML5 output. Flash output doesn't seem to have the problem. Of course, our client wants to use HTML5.
    Any ideas?

OK, I finally got around to testing my project and it does the same thing. This is a pretty serious issue if there is no work around. I'll log a bug.

  • Quicktime Audio Disappears after Publishing

    Hi -
I'm using iWeb 09; I have long been using iWeb to publish my website - part of that has been uploading mp3 files for people to listen to.
My problem is suddenly my files, which play perfectly in iWeb, don't even show up on the page after I publish it. Previously, when the page first loaded, the Quicktime symbol would appear under the image placeholder until the file loaded and then you could play it. Now, after waiting, there is nothing but the image placeholder.
For the life of me, I cannot figure this out. It is this way on Firefox; Safari 4 shows an Quicktime sybmol with a question mark (both on my Mac), and on a PC with IE7 it doesn't show up at all.
I've searched here and across the web and cannot find anyone else who has encountered this problem. Please help!

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Is the podcase link right below this graphic or is the graphic?

If so make sure the graphic is not overlapping the QT file.

  • Audio disappears after first half hour

I burned a 60 minute tv show in iDVD, which plays and sounds fine in preview, but when you play the burned dvd, the audio is gone from about the 35 minute mark on (picture fine, last 25 minutes of audio missing) Any ideas???

    Hi
May be there is some help here:
*Not knowing the origin to Your problem - General approach when in trouble is as follows:*
    • Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk if it is less than 10Gb should rather have 25Gb
    • Hard disk is untidy: Repair Permissions, Repair Hard disk (Apple Disc Util tool)
    • Delete iDVD pref file - *or rather start a new user/account* - log into this and re-try
    • Program miss-match: iDVD 5.0.2, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK - DON’T work under Leopard
    • Program miss-match: iDVD 6.0.4, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
    • Program miss-match: iDVD’08 v. 7.0.1, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
    • iDVD (08) v7 Locate theme folder. Move out iDVD1, iDVD 2 and eventually iDVD4 folders to desktop - re-try
    • Try a Cleaning CD/DVD that cleans the laser lens on the DVD burner/player
iDVD 6.0.4 and iDVD 7.0.1 are compatible with Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard
iDVD pref file resides: Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD)/Users/"Your account"/Library/Preferences and is named:
    com.apple.iDVD.plist
While iDVD is NOT RUNNING - move this file out to desk-top.
    Now restart iDVD.
Last resort: from Craig: Solved the problem!! Finally!!
I deleted every iDVD application and folder from my boot drive,
emptied the trash and then installed iDVD 08 using the customize option
and I am up and running.

  • Audio disappears after "conforming"

In Premiere Pro CS6 (6.05), when I import a spanned clip, the audio works fine, BUT as soon as it finishes "conforming" the audio on the file stops working. Any ideas?

I have no idea what might cause that for newly imported media.  The report just doesn't make any sense to me.
For old projects, it's a different story.  There, at least, the media is already conformed, which explains the audio and waveform.  But then something is getting messed up in the reconforming process.  Unfortunately, I can't think of anything for that one either.
    Maybe try resetting preferences.

  • Audio disappears completely

I have had problems with all audio disappearing when running VLC. Today, I was listening to iTunes and started VLC, which killed all the audio. The error message from VLC is "audio-device var does not exist. Device probe failed."
If I try to open the sound system preference, sound preferences crash. If I try iTunes, it gives no error message, but the progress bar does not move and nothing happens. The audio output is connected to an audio amplifier by optical cable. Rebooting fixes the problem.
Does anyone have an idea if this could be a hardware problem?

Are you sure about the Frame Width and Frame Height that you gave 720 x 484? Did you mean 720 x 480?
    Yes, my err.  720X480
For the Frame Rate, was it really 29.97 frames per second and you rounded it off to 29 frames per second? Or,
is the frame rate really 29 frames per second?

  • No speaker audio after resume

I have a Gigabyte P35K with a realtek audio codec.
Audio works great out of the box, including the speakers, hdmi, and headphones. However, once I let the laptop suspend I no longer have audio via speakers but it keeps working from all other outputs.
Alsamixer still shows all the controls as it should and I've tried toggling mutes and volume but there is no change. I've also tried reloading Pulseaudio but it makes no change.
    Anyone have some ideas?

I could not get any useful specifications on that laptop, meaning what model of Realteks chips your system has, but I assume it is snd-hda-intel compliant, so try using these options in modules configuration according to this (line 891):
    options snd-hda-intel power_save=0 power_save_controller=0
Or the other way around, although that may be enabled by default. This driver supports power management out of box. Autoprobe could be detecting wrong model for your hardware though. I would also look into systemds journal, dmesg and other logs that may be relevant for your system just after sending suspend command. Are not using any sound servers (pulseaudio, jack)?
And since only your speakers are not working afterwards, did your also remove/reload pcskpr module after resume? Did you tried suspending and resuming on a live distribution like mint? I am wondering if there is a dedicated module for those speakers and if they are released cleanly or not at all.

  • Audio after resume does not fully function.

After resuming Windows 7 x64 from hibernation, my Boot Camp does not detect headphones. Usually, I have the headphones out, then hibernate. After resume, I plug the headphones into the headphone jack, and it doesn't make a difference, the audio still comes out of the internal speakers.
If I were to restart Windows, it would be fine again though.

Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.
You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
    Then perform these steps:
*Click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
*In the Firefox options window click the ''Advanced'' tab, then select "General".
*In the settings list, you should find the ''Use hardware acceleration when available'' checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
*Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.
Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:
[[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]]
[[Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL]]

  • Realtek HD Audio driver disappears after installing an ATI Radeon graphics card

My Realtek HD Audio driver disappears (from both the Vista "Sound Manager" and the "Device Manager") and is replaced by an ATI HD Audio driver after installing an ATI  Radeon 5450 graphics card.  I've tried un-installing the ATI Audio driver and re-installing the Realtek Audio driver.  But, upon rebooting, Vista automatically re-installs the ATI Audio driver (and the Realtek Audio driver, which I just re-installed, is no where to be found after rebooting).  I'm using an HP a6110n desktop running Windows Vista.
    This question was solved.

    Hi:
I bet you were unpleasantly surprised by that!
    The fix is simple:
Go into your system setup (BIOS) using the F10 key.
Find your device configuration menu. In that menu there should be a setting for your onboard audio. It is probably set to Auto.
Change the setting to Enabled. Hit the F10, key there and again when you save your settings and exit.
Now your onboard audio will be back and your HDMI out audio on your graphics card should work too when you need it.
What happened was when you installed the Video card with HDMI out, there is an audio chip on the video card for HDMI. The PC sensing a new sound card, just disabled the onboard sound card because it thought you didn't want to use the onboard card anymore.
Changing the BIOS setting to enabled tells the PC to use the onboard audio card as well as any others you may have installed.

  • I've tried 2 different screen capture devices, and in both cases, audio stops recording after 20 or 30 seconds, but video is fine.  The audio disappears

I've tried 2 different screen capture devices, and in both cases, audio stops recording after 20 or 30 seconds, but video is fine.  The audio disappears with both programs.  Does anyone know what is happening with my audio capture?

Update, I took the webcam home over the weekend and tried on my home network and the outcome was the same video fine - audio delayed, is this a Skype for desktop issue?
