Audio distorted during fade in/fade out transitions

I'm using iMovie HD to edit an MP4 file. I've put fade in/fade out transitions at the beginning and end of the movie, but I notice that it either garbles the audio during these transitions or adds a loud clicking noise in place of the audio that should be there (i.e., the original audio fading in or out.)
Has anyone experienced this? Any idea how to work around the problem?
Thanks.

Maybe it is this?

  • Audio distortion during/after capture in Premiere Elements10

Why is the audio distorted (sounds like a cell phone that keeps losing a signal and every other word is garbled) when capturing a video from a DV camcorder in Premiere Elements10? I'm using a IEEE 1394 cable from the camcorder to the computer and DV camcorder is selected in the Premiere Elements setup menu. Any help.........please!

Capturing from a tape-based miniDV does not change the audio or video information in any way, Unkie. So if you're capturing from a miniDV camcorder and getting distortion, that distortion is happening in the camcorder itself.
But if you're getting distortion when you output your video, it could well be because your audio levels are too high.
As I say in my books, whenever you edit your video, you should go to the Window menu and open the Audio Mixer. Watch your audio levels as you play back your timeline. They should peak at Zero. If they're up in the yellow and red or are overloading the mixer, you are going to get distortion in your video output.
But if you're saying you're hearing distortion while capturing your video -- that's a whole other issue. You need to adjust your computer's audio levels or turn down your speakers. As I've said, capturing over FireWire does absolutely nothing to change the audio or video information that's coming in from the camcorder. It's just your computer playing it too loud.

  • Audio distortion during RAM preview

I've been working for the past 4 months on the same computer, working on similar animations, nothing has changed much... then this happens.
**During RAM preview, my audio now sounds like an overloading robot.**
I can't seem to find similar issues on the internet to figure this out myself so I'm asking this forum. I haven't changed anything significant that could have altered my computer. I'm using:
    late 2013 MacPro model
    - with a SSD
    - 32GB of DDR3 RAM
    - 3.7 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon E5
    - AMD FirePro D300 2048MB GPU
    But I don't think it's the hardware
Old projects that I've worked on before are now doing the same thing. It's only during my RAM preview. Simple audio preview sounds perfectly fine. There is nothing wrong with the audio file because others that have worked before aren't working now.
Has anyone had the same problem?

I can't tell you what the problem was but I found the reset for all my preferences, tried it, and it worked. It solved my problem but I wish I could have found the source because I created my settings 2 months ago. I allocated more memory, changed a few settings but not within the past couple of days that would have created the problem. So i was just perplexed. I'd still like to know what the hell happened to cause this so I don't run into it again.

  • Audio Distorts when I add subtitle or transition

    Using iMovie HD 6.0.3.
Every time I add a subtitle or a transition to a moving picture, the audio track is overwhelmed by a series of clicks that disappears when the title ends or transition finishes. When I remove the title or transition, and the the audio glitch disappears. (Titles over black function just fine.)
Most every other iMovie annoyance I've found away around. This one has me beat. Help, please.

    Hi
    "Rubberband":
When You selected the TimeLine to show three audio tracks one can
turn on "Adjust audio levels" then in each of the track ther will be a line (rubberband)
where You can set dotts and adjust audio to increas (to 150%) or decrease to zero.
This enables You to silence out disturbing noices (somewhat)(eg door slam, snees etc).
To increase the sound to more than 150%. Extract audio if it is a part of the audio clip
Select this new audio clip on the track under the video clip.
Goto Edit and Copy then Paste one or several times = increased audio
Update: *(Sorry - Didn't see that You had 6.0.3. You are in the iM HD v5 forum)*
To iMovie HD v5 there is a more modern version iMovie HD v6 (6.0.3) for iLife06 owners
and 6.0.4 if You can't get this and has to buy iLife08. This is most often a great way
even that iMovie'08 most often is a disappointment. But when done this You can
    download iM06 (6.0.4)
    • iMovie HD 6 (6.0.4) : http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/imovieHD6.html
But still there are no - FREE upgrade as I know about.

  • Thunderbolt audio distortion during heavy Thunderbolt hard drive activity on MacBook Pro Retina 15 2012

I have a 2012 MacBook Pro Retina connected to a Thunderbolt Display, with Thunderbolt hard drives attached to that. Whenever I'm doing a big copy, or a Time Machine backup, any audio being played through the speakers becomes heavily distorted. If I switch to internal speakers, it's fine (but obviously not high-quality). As soon as drive activity quiets down, audio is fine again.
Anyone else having this problem and/or know of a fix? It's super aggravating to have to change speaker settings every hour when my backup kicks off!
    Thanks!

I believe this issue is caused by bad ground coupling between the two devices, some of the induced charge can spark between connectors in the thunderbolt port causing computer to basicly freeze.
To solve this issue try touching the connectors outside metal part to your macbooks body first to discharge it, then while plugging int the connector do it at slight angle so the metal of the connector touches Mac's body.
This method has been working for me.

  • Fade In / Fade Out during CurrentState Transition

    Hi,
How is it possible to have elements to be fade in / fade out during the transition of currentstate? Thanks.

    Hi,
    Check this example.
    http://adobe-center.net/devnet/flex/quickstarts/defining_state_transitions.html
It uses Resize effect with some filters. You can use the same technique to get the Fade effect

  • Text changes size during fade-in/fade out.

I have a project where I wanted to lay in a simple full screen text element...just white text over black...between groups of clips. I'm VERY new to FCP. I had no problem creating the text, setting the length to 5:00 sec, and inserting it into the time line. I easily stuck a fade-in/fade-out 1 sec transition on either side of the text. After outputting to DVD, the text re-sized at the end of the fade in and at the beginning of the fade out. I'm working in anamorphic. I found the aspect setting in text and changed it to 1.77. Still NG. Any pointers would surely be appreciated.

I really just wanted to dip to black and come up text, followed by another dip to black and up on content. I tried dissolving to a color (black) and the distortion of the text during the dissolve was eliminated.
So what is the difference between a fade in/fadeout dissolve and a dissolve to black?

  • When adjusting the audio volume in a selected region, why does it give me a curved line instead of straight and why cant I change it like i can with a fade in our out?

When adjusting the audio volume in a selected region, why does it give me a curved line as a transition instead of straight, and why cant I change the fade shape like i can with a fade in our out? When I slide thet volume all the way down it makes a very abrupt down curve. It's audibly noticdible.
    Thank you.

Use the range selection tool and select the portion of the clip you want to change the volume on. Drag the volume line down and FCP will create keyframes which you can adjust as you want to get a fade shape.

  • Is there a simple fade in/fade out transition?

In Final Cut X, I don't see a simple fade in or fade out transition. Am I missing it? I've recreated it using Fade to Color (black) then adjusting the audio. But seems more complicated than it needs to be.

A very simple way (with full control) is:
Select the clip in the storyline, press Ctrl+V to open up a Video Animation box above the clip.
Click the dark rectangle to the right of the Opacity bar to enlarge it.
Near the top of the box is a thin black opacity control line.
Click the right end of the line, and drag to the left to create a fade-out.
(Click the left end and drag to the right to fade-in).

  • Audio fade with fade in fade out effect

i want to make the audio fade along with the end of a clip when i use the fade in fade out transition i tried the audio cross fade but no luck could someone please help me out

Let me add to Tom and Al suggestion: if you want cross fade (not only fade in and out) your clips must have handles. In other words you should set up an Out point (in the left clip) and an In point (in the right clip): these must leave enough media in each clip to let cross fade to work; that's needed for either video or audio.

I have adobe Premiere Elements 13. It will not let me delete audio or have it fade in or out. I can move the yellow line all the way down till the volume reads -0.0, but the sound is still there on playback. I can click on fade in and fade out and the yellow line that graphs volume takes a sharp raise or dip at the beginning or end of the clip, but there is no change in volume when I play back. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for the reply. Great news about the volume adjusts.
Now about those fades for the volume. How are you doing that?
    1. Right click the Timeline video audio and select Fade and then
see the Fade options (I had a video with audio file, so I saw the choices as shown in the screenshot)
    2. You can also create two volume keyframes at each end of the Timeline audio clip rubberband (orange line that goes horizontally across the middle of the audio clip). At the position of the Timeline Indicator, click the Add/Remove Keyframe icon, and then with the mouse cursor position the white dots (volume keyframes) to achieve the Fade In and Fade Out audio. In the screenshot below I have moved the Timeline Indicator so that you could better see the white dots (volume keyframes).
Please let us know if any of the above works for you with regard to the audio fades.
    Thank you.

  • Switching off the fade in/fade out transition when viewing previews

In Library mode, when I'm switching between all my photos, there is a fade in fade out transition as it switches to the next photo.  Can I get rid of this transition?  I would like to just switch to the next photo without any fancy transition.  Possible?

On my Mac version of Lr (4.1) I can't see any such "fade-in/out" effect. Going from one image to the next is pretty much instantaneous.
Sadly, that's about the only thing in Lr 4 that is instantaneous for me.

  • I need help with XML Gallery Fade in out transition. somebody please help me :(

I need help with XML Gallery Fade in out transition. somebody please help me
I have my post dont want to duplicate it

The problem doesn't lie with your feed, although it does contain an error - you have given a non-existent sub-category. You need to stick to the categories and sub-categories listed here:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/podcasts/specs.html#categories
Subscribing to your feed from the iTunes Store page work as such, but the episodes throw up an error message. The problem lies with your episode media files: you are trying to stream them. Pasting the URL into a browser produces a download (where it should play the file) of a small file which does not play and in fact is a text file containing (in the case of ep.2) this:
    [Reference]
    Ref1=http://stream.riverratdoc.com/RiverratDoc/episode2.mp3?MSWMExt=.asf
    Ref2=http://70.33.177.247:80/RiverratDoc/episode2.mp3?MSWMExt=.asf
You must provide a direct link to the actual mp3 file. Streaming won't work. The test is that if you paste the URL of the media file (as given in the feed) into the address bar of a browser it should play the file.

  • Audio Fade In Fade Out -1 Sec?

    Captivate v5.5
I have created a v5.5 Captivate project, imported the audio to each slide after creating the audio with Audacity and am now starting to sync the audio with the animations.
    I have just noticed that every slide in my project has the following audio setting;
I dont recall making this audio setting.
    1. Where is the Fade In Fade Out option setting to ensure this does not get applied again to future projects?
    2. I cannt see how to remove the 1 second Fade In / Fade Out for the whole project.
Do I have to edit this slide by slide?
    Thanks,
    Noel

Thank you Lilybiri for taking the time to open your "old" v5.5 - I really appreciate it.
If I had not taken that screenshot I might have started to doubt myself.
On receipt of your reply I went back to the project with the issue, and would you believe it, all the slides have reverted back to 0sec Fade In and 0sec Fade Out!
I have not made any changes and now have no idea why this happened in first place or what happened to make them revert to correct 0sec settings - but will keep an eye on it and hope that it was a one off Monday morning "glitch".

  • Can slide transitions fade in and out?

I have a slide show set with fade in transitions, and I want
the slides to fade out when the next slide fades in. Can someone
please tell me how to do this??
    Thanks.

I'm sure there is probably some actionscript that can do
this, however I am unaware of it.
    What you can do is:
    1. Make sure each slide is converted to a movie clip
    2. Create two keyframes for each slide
    3. Create a motion tween between the two keyframes
    4. Change the alpha on the second keyframe to 0% (this
    creates your fade out)
To fade in, just change the alpha to 0% on the first keyframe
instead. Then you can move the tweens on the timeline to either
crossfade, or fade in fade out. Hope this helps.
