Audio doesn't drag to timeline with clip

This is probably a really obvious answer to make me feel like a fool.
I am using Final Cut Studio 7, working on a project from FCS6
I am working on a project started by someone else. I've had no problems, apart from suddenly on one part, when I drag the video from the viewer to the sequence, the audio doesn't go with it.
When I play the clip in the viewer the audio is there and also in the tabs, I can see the audio - so not sure what's happening here. Any help muchly appreciated.

Are your audio channels in the time line turned on and able to accept audio?
Do they look like this? (look at the small grab of the audio portion up at the top)

If so, then you need to click those to allow audio to put on the timeline.

  • [SOLVED] Thunar 1.6 doesn't drag-and-drop with the right mouse button

    Hallo all.
It might be something I've done (though I did delete my ~/.config/Thunar directory before upgrading), but Thunar doesn't let me drag-and-drop with the right mouse button, thus stopping me from copying something instead of moving it, etc. Has anyone else had that too?

Come on! Read what GordonGR wrote!
Microsoft Windows, Nautilus, the Haiku Tracker, and probably many other file managers have a feature where, when you right-click or middle-click and drag an icon to a new location, a pop-up menu appears and asks what you'd like to do (Move, Copy, Link). I thought I used to use this feature in Thunar too but it seems to have stopped working in recent versions. Has anyone else had any experience with it?
EDIT: Here's random blogger talking about the feature in an older version of Thunar: http://jeromeg.blog.free.fr/index.php?p … and-tricks So that's good, I wasn't just imagining the feature.

  • Premiere Pro Timeline with 3 video channels and 4 audio channels, audio channels change to 8 channels when clip dragged onto timeline.

Premiere Pro Timeline with 3 video channels and 4 audio channels, when clip dragged onto timeline audio channels change to 8 channels. Audio track mixer changes too. I edit undo to remove dragged clip and it reverts back to 4 channels of audio on timeline as does the audio mixer?  Any ideas as to why the audio channels and mixer changes?

you can check the clip you are dragging to the timeline, if it has 8 tracks... can check by right clicking it in the project bin, choose modify, audio channels.

  • Two issues getting a headless error form windows & my clips audio plays in the preview but not once placed in th timeline. I taped with a panasonic HC 750 V. i believe it is with clips filmed using directed not surround audio.

The title more or less says it all. I have Elements 13 & am Using the Panasonic HC 750V. I shot in AVCHD 1080/60p & instead of surround sound choose the directed feature to focus on the voices in front of me. The audio works in preview but not on the timeline. I am also getting Headless errors when working with premiere that pop up in windows but it does not shut down the system.
    Any help apprecaited.

Have you updated your Premiere Elements 13 to 13.1 using an opened project's Help Menu/Update. If not, please do so.
Just some points of clarification on the AVCHD 1080/60p with which you are having audio problem in Premiere Elements 13.
    a. I see no option to record to tape with your Panasonic model. Is there one? if not, what was recorded to, a memory card?
    b. When you talk about directed not surround audio, are you saying that your video uses Dolby Digital 2 channel stereo instead of 5.1 channel?
    c. Is your AVCHD footage presented to you as AVCHD.mts rather than AVCHD.mp4. I think that is the case if you are referring to Dolby Digital
    rather than AAC audio.
Are you saying that you get play back video and audio if you double click the video's thumbnail in Project Assets, but you get video but no audio after you drag the file to the Timeline and play back its contents in the Edit area monitor?
    a. Have you checked the Volume control under the Adjust Tab/Adjustments Palette/Volume Panel expanded to make sure the Volume has been taken all the way down? Under that condition, you will get play back in the Preview Window, but no audio from the Timeline level play back in the Edit area monitor.
    b. In that same regard, if you look at the Timeline audio clip, note a yellow orange line that runs horizontally across the duration of the audio clip. Is that at the bottom of the frame or is it in the middle or at the top?
Do you work with the Elements Organizer at all? That Headess issue sounds like an Elements Organizer issue. More on that later. That issue should not prevent you from continuing your work. But we will explore that next.
    Thanks.

  • Moving clips en masse on timeline (with imported audio)

Here's what I want to do: I just arranged a group of clips on my timeline. I realized after I did this that they are in the wrong place, so I need to grab them all (there're about 15 in a row) and move them to another place on the timeline. The thing is, they need to inserted in-between a bunch of clips that are all smack together. So what I need to do is create a space between two of these clips and then paste my new collection of clips in that space.
    Thank you for your help!

    Hi James!
You don't need to make a space for them to drop into.
Select all the clip by holding down the shift key while you click on the first and last of the clips, then they will drag en masse to the desired location and make their own gap!
If that location is too far down the timeline to be seen, park them in the clips pane, move the timeline, then drag them to the desired position.Make sure sure you don't click anything or you will 'unbundle' them.
As to your second question, you just need to lock the audio to the playhead. Place the playhead at the point where you want the audio to stay in relation to the clip, go to Advanced menu and click on 'lock audio at playhead'. Now the audio will move with the clip.

  • Multicam Clip's Audio Doesn't Play In Main Timeline

I have 2 camera angles of the same event. I made a multicam clip of the 2. Both angles have audio in the video clips. When I go into the multicam editor, both clips have audio. When I play the multicam clip in the Event, it has audio.
When I put the multicam clip into the main timeline, there is no audio at all. The audio tab isn't there when the clip is selected.
I need to take 2 different angles, each with their own audio, and make a multicam clip and switch between the two and switch their audio and video.
What's the trick to get this to work?
    Thank you!

    Thanks, Luis! That was it.
FYI, it didn't update the clip on the timeline, but I just dragged it back out to the timeline from the event and that one had sound.
Thanks for the reply too, Tom!

  • I can not drag clips into timeline with adobe premiere CC

  • Clips automatically lengthened when dragged into timeline

    Hello,
I'm new to FCP X, just as I am with video editing so please forgive my noviceness!
When I drag clips from the Event Library into the Timeline(?) (The bit at the bottom, where you arrange the clips) they are automatically made longer. For example, one clip has a length of 54 seconds in the event library, but when dragged into the timeline, it has been stretched to 56 seconds. I'm trying to match a band's studio recording footage to the finished audio and it is impossible when the clips are slowed down (and subsequently lower in pitch).
Is there a setting I need to know about to prevent this? How can I fix this problem?
    Many thanks

If you mark the 'In' and 'Out' points and then press the 'E' key, the clip should be added to the Timeline exactly as marked in the Event Library.
Press 'Q' to add it above the Timeline as a Connected Clip at the Skimmer or the Playhead position.
Press 'W' to insert it into the Timeline at the Skimmer or the Playhead position (all the other clips will be pushed along the timeline to make room for it).
Press 'D' to overwrite it to the Timeline at the Skimmer or the Playhead position.
If you try some of these options and the clip duration changes, I suggest you trash your preferences.
Unexplained faults like this can often be fixed by clearing out FCP X's preferences (for some reason, they get knotted up from time to time).
Download Digital Rebellion's Preference Manager (free, simple to use, and perfectly safe, both to download and use).
    http://www.digitalrebellion.com/prefman/
With Preference Manager, you can backup the Prefs when FCP X (or any of the Apple Professional Applications) are working normally. Then when either of the applications are acting strangely, Trash the Preferences, then Restore from your backups (just a mouse-click).
If you trash the prefs and don't restore them, you will need to manually restore all your FCP X settings again, so it's a great idea to backup Preferences from time to time when FCP X is working well, then your backups are up to date.
Doesn't fix every problem, but it fixes a lot.

  • Audio offline in Timeline ONLY; Clips appear red (CS6)

    Very, very, very frustrating issue.
I have a cut of a scene where the audio has all mysteriously gone offline (the clips in the timeline have turned red, rather than green). No audio plays back. Yet when I select "Reveal in Project", it finds the associated audio file. That audio file plays fine in the Source Monitor, fully online, waveforms, plays back fine. I can select "Edit Original" in the timeline and the original file will open up in iTunes and play fine. I put the file from the Project window offline and reconnected, yet the clip in the timeline doesn't change at all. It is connected, but doesn't act like it. Checking the timeline clip's properties, it says "Online". But it's not.
The most frustrating thing is that ONE of the shots has online audio that plays back. This is the same audio file as some of the other shots that register as offline!!!!!!!! It's absurd.
Earlier cuts, using the exact same audio files are all online, all work fine.
I have deleted my media cache, went back to an earlier auto-save, no luck. When I double-click the clip in the timeline, it opens a blank audio preview in the Source monitor, no waveforms but it does have my In/Out points. I tried copying the timecode and applying it to the ONLINE version of the file from the Project panel, but the timecode was bizarrely different and didn't match so I can't even use the "Replace with Clip" command. It's insane.
Any insight or help on this issue would be much appreciated. I've already had to go about re-adding clips manually, but hopefully for next time I can have an easier solution...

A bit same pb happen to me. The cut was OK I close it and a few days after open the project and the sound was in RED. Also all the rush were offline.
My rush were in  : AVCHD 1080p - Pixels carrés
    Base de temps : 25,00 i/s
My solution is to copy in the same directory the rush (for exemple 00002.MTS  become 00002_2.MTS) and to reconnect in Premiere the rush 00002.MTS with 00002_2.MTS. (don't know if I am clear !).
This solves the problem for me.
Rq : if I clear the original file (00002.MTS) an rename the 00002_2.MTS in 00002.MTS the error is back ! Stange !

  • When I crossfade two clips, audio doesn't crossfade

I've got two clips crossfading in my iMovie '11 project. It's a 4 second crossfade set to Full. The audio of the second clip is fading in over the duration of the transition, but the audio from the first clip is just stopping when it reaches the start of the transition. It doesn't fade out. I get this both when I preview the timeline, and when I go into Precision Editor for the transition in question.
I'm sure the audio is crossfading correctly elsewhere in the project, but this also isn't the first time I've noticed the issue, I just chose to not use the crossfade in those other instances. I don't think it's a memory issue; the project's running at about half an hour now but my 2009 MBP isn't really struggling that I can tell.
Anyone else experienced this and know what might be causing it?

I think I found the issue. The first clip had some audio jiggery pokery in Precision Editor, with the clip preceding it. I deleted this problematic clip, replaced it, split it in two and re-did the audio editing on the start of the first section, leaving the second section untouched. Now the audio cross-fades into the second clip of my problematic transition.
So my conclusion is that the audio tweaks I'd made at the start of the clip were messing with the tail of the clip somehow. Don't know if that's me or a bug.

  • Audio not imported to timeline with linked video

When I try to add (drag and drop) and video clip into the timeline in Premiere Pro CC the video show up but the audio that should be attached/linked to it does not show up in the timeline. I have scrolled down but it isn't in any of the audio tracks. Also in case anyone asks the audio doesn't play. I can however add audio (without video) to the timeline and that does work fine.
I cannot understand why this is happening but has been going on for a while but now I need the audio and have to have this figured out.
Any and all help is appreciated!

  • MXF file plays with audio on Source Monitor but timeline imports only the video

    Hello,
This started happening like a few hours ago. But it was working perfectly before! This is driving me insane!
This is the situation (Premiere CC, updated to latest version):
    - I have a bunch of MXF files and if I play them on the Source Monitor, audio and video play perfectly.
    - The moment I drag the MXF file onto the timeline, only the video is imported, not the audio.
    - I tried to drag only the audio, using the different ways that Premiere provides but it won't come at all.
I managed to import audio and video doing the following: close all sequences, and drag the MXF file in the timeline with no sequence opened thus it will create a sequence with the imported audio and video from the MXF file.
BUT if I try to drop the SAME MXF file in this brand new sequence, only the video will come again.
Does anyone have an idea of what is going on? And why it suddenly stopped working?
    Thank you!

  • Exporting clips in the timeline with handles

Is there a way to export a selected clip in the timeline with handles? I know you can export all the clips in the timeline with handles using Media Manager, but is there a way to do it with just one clip?
I should ask- is there a quicker way? because I know one way is to drag the clip up to V2 and just manually extend handles to the clip and export it that way. I was hoping for a quicker method. I need to export some self-containted clips that I can reinsert for sending the sequence to Color.

    Thanks. Snap is enabled.
I added 30 clips at once from the project bin onto the timeline. So I was really amazed that there were small gaps between some clips. When I tried to repair this (hold CTrl and move the clips to the left) the puzzle began. It happened that moving the clip only three frames to the left, I lost 15 seconds of the total. I discovered this was either a total loss of a clip (not he one I moved, but a clip say three clips to the right) or it was considerably shorter in time.
First I thougt it had to do with my good old dualcore (1.8Ghz), but on the new one (Quad 2.4Ghz) it is still the same.
This is the first time it happens (after 3 completed small projects).
From now on I will only drag one clip at the time to minimize the chance on this behaviour.
But you will understand, I'm not happy...

  • Audio doesn't "stick" to clips

    Hey everyone!
I'm hoping someone can help... When I'm in the clip viewer, I have three clips lined up with audio from iTunes timed "perfectly" to the sequence (this includes blending the song to the audio from the clip - and, yes, both volume checkboxes are selected). However, when I drag it into the clip "sorter" and try to play back, it only keeps the audio that I imported from the tape and loses my song (I've tried locking the audio at playhead). Any idea on how to get this to work? I thought perhaps I could merge the video and then merge the audio to that, but nothing is working...
    Thanks!

    hi Just Dave:
Yes-but that will be a bit more advanced than just extracting and deleting...
Tell me exactly where you want to delete the audio recorded with the video.
Let's say you want to hear the first few seconds of audio recorded but then want to mute some of it to make room for music.
You would split the video clip (edit->Split Video Clip at Playhead) at the beginning of the soon to be muted audio and again at the point where you want the audio to be heard again.
Then highlight the clip (now realize I did not tell you to extract the audio-it's still in the video) that you want to mute. Then check the "Edit Volume" box found at the bottom of the screen.
You can raise and lower the audio from the video or even mute it with this. Be sure to uncheck it when you are done or you won't be able to edit other things.
Gee-I hope I haven't confused you more-please post again and ask more if I have.
Also-have a look at the "Help" and some of the tutorials in imovie.

  • I am trying to import video and the audio doesn't upload with the video. Help.

I am trying to import video and the audio doesn't upload with the video. Help.
I upgraded to iMovie 11 because the previous version wouldn't read the type of video I was importing (VOB).  The video imports but not the audio, what do I do?

What are you capturing from?  You may not hear the auido as it's captured but it will be there.  After it's captured can you see the audio waveforms? Do the audio meters move when you play the clip?  If so then go to "View" then "Audio Playback"  and set it to 'Built-in Output" if you're monitoring audio through the computer.
