Like many other programs of its kind, Premiere Elements has its learning curve with workflow details that need to be understood and executed. If you do not have the time and patience, I suggest you return the product if purchased from Adobe within 30 days of purchase to get your money back.
We would be glad for the opportunity to help you work through the issue. But it will require follow up and direct answers to direct questions. The answers will be in the details.
You say that the video is from a Sony Vaio HD webcam. Is the webcam built into the computer or one that you attach to the computer?
What is the scenario for placing your webcam video on the Premiere Elements 12 Timeline
a. Camera Sony Vaio HD webcam/software that came with the webcam (please name)/ that produces a .mp4 file saved to your computer hard drive. And, you import that .mp4 into Premiere Elements 12 with the program's Add Media/Files and Folders/Project Assets from where you drag the video to the Expert workpsace Timeline.
or
b. You open Premiere Elements 12 and go to Add Media/Webcam or WMD Device and in the Capture dialog that appears you see your Sony Vaio HD camera listed in the field where it shows Capturing Source? If so, are you using Full Motion or Stop Motion? If so, what are you ending up with,  HD or SD video added to the Timeline?
Once we know how you are getting your .mp4 to the Premiere Elements 12 Timeline, we can back track to figure out if the project settings of the program are being properly set by you or the program. This may be a simple matter of right or wrong project settings or more complex. But we will not know until we work through the details.
Since you present with an audio out of sync with its video issue it is necessary to know the video and audio properties of the file
video compression
audio compression
frame size
frame rate
interlaced or progressive
file extension - we know that from what you told us, .mp4.
pixel aspect ratio
The easy way is if you know the brand/model/settings of the camera recording the video. Any problems in that regard, then you get the properties from free properties readout programs such as MediaInfo or gspot. I suggested MediaInfo here since it will tell us if your video uses a fixed or variable frame rate. Variable frame rates can create problems.

Please review the above and let us know your decision on whether or not you have time to troubleshoot the problem that you describe.
Thanks.

Subtlety is key in audio, so make small adjustments. Try throwing an EQ on it with peaks around 4khz and and 120hz. Adjust the gains and frequencies to match his voice until you get it to the level of sweetness you want. A kiss of reverb can finish it off if needed.

  • E71: audio notifications for email using Mail for ...

I can't get audio (or, for that matter vibrate) notifications for incoming email messages in my Mail for Exchange (MFE) account.
My phone is a Nokia E71-2 and I recently upgraded to firmware version 200.21.118 to see if that would cure the problem, but it did not.  I've checked the Profile settings and made sure that email notifications are turned on, but audio notifications still dont work.  For a while, I used Yahoo mail and the notifications seemed to work just fine for my Yahoo account. Unfortunately, I'm much more interested in using my MFE email account.  I thought that perhaps the settings only applied to my Yahoo account so I have deleted it from the phone.  The only active email account on my phone today is the MFE account - but still no audio notifications.
Any advice would be sincerely appreciated.
    Solved!

I am not sure if this will work for you guys since I am in the US, but I think I figured out the issue. You need to change the settings for the home screen to alert you when messages arrive in the Mail for Exchange section.
    To do this:
Menu > Settings > General > Personalization > Home Screen > (Make sure Home Screen is ACTIVE) Mode Settings > Home Screen Applications > E-mail 1 Notification > Select Mail for Exchange
    That should work.

  • Audio "drifting" to total desync in Premiere Pro and only in that program (not media players)

Whenever I import a longer clip (entire movie or TV episode) and cut out a scene that isn't in the very beginning, the sound is lagged in an unexpected way. It seems to "drift" over time, so that it fits perfectly in the beginning of the movie, but is horribly out of sync toward the end, and smoothly transitions to this throughout the movie.
I'm going to spare you the details of how I've cursed violently at this, even destroyed hardware and pulled my hair out of frustration. I've lost so many hours of productivity just trying to manually re-sync every damn clip.
OS: Windows 8. It was the same thing on Windows 7. All official stable patches. On multiple computers. None of them have any weird/exotic changes whatsoever. In fact, they are very clean and well maintained. This has happened in both CS 6 and CC of Premiere Pro.
Short clips seem to always work. It COULD have something to do with the .avi format specifically, but I don't know.
Very important: The clips that "audio drift" in Premiere Pro work flawlessly in all my media players. I can watch them perfectly in Media Player Classic, VLC, etc. Only when inside Pr, either as preview or as an exported file, do they have desynced audio in this manner. It's 100% verified that this only happens in Pr. In fact, even Windows Live Movie Maker seems to not be affected by this "drift".
    Please help.

    >entire movie or TV episode
That would SEEM to indicate you are not editing video from a camera, but from some kind of screen capture or a "rip" of a source file... and playing is not at ALL like editing
    >something to do with the .avi format
AVI is a wrapper, what is inside YOUR wrapper - Exactly what is INSIDE the video you are editing?

  • Need ONE Button That Controls Audio/Caption for Multiple Movies

    Captiate Version: 3
    Flash Version: 9
We created an online course using Captivate 3. The shell is HTML and the captivate (.swf) is embeded to show the content. Because the content inside the captivate movies were too large we had to break up the course into separate pages for loading purposes.
    For example:
    HTML Page            Captivate File
    page001.html         page001.swf
    page003.html         page003.swf
    page004.html         page004.swf
Now we need a way to use ONE Button to control the Audio/Caption for ALL the movies. The button would be included seperately in the HTML shell along with Captivate movie.
Is this possible? If so please let us know in detail how?
We're open to other ideas. We are somewhat familar with using Captivate variables ect is required.

You can control Captivate SWFs via JavaScript using the CaptivateController. It allows you to control all the standard Captivate variables from HTML.

  • Audio drifts out of synch

For me, this is a very inexplicable problem.
Concert video. Video taken with 5 HD cameras, camera's audio at 48KHz. Audio was also separately recorded in a Pro Tools system, also 48 KHz.
The video was later captured into FCP using the standard HD 1080 50i. Syncing up the videos was no big hassle. When adding the ProTools audio, it drifts out of sync.
I found in the FCP manual about the fact that if audio and video is not synced using a master sync / time generator, the audio can drift.
But how is this possible? I want to understand. I can understand the need for an external sync during recording, to more easily sync up the start point for each track when editing, but one second is one second long, exactly and 48000 samples is 48000 samples, wether recorded on one device or another. 48KHz is 48KHz and 1 second is one second, whatever the device.
In my mind, the master program (in this case FCP) should read exactly 48000 / second regardless if the audio is captured on the cam or on any other 48KHz device. But it does not do this... it reads maybe 48090 - or whatnot - samples per second. The result is that the audio drifts ahead of the video. Why does it do this?
This is not just in FCP. My friend is composing music on Logic Pro. The bas player (who lives in another city) records his bas lines on Logic Pro and sends the files (uncompressed). When my friend imports the bas recording into the master Logic project, the same thing happens... the imported file drifts.
In my mind, a bit is a bit, a byte is a byte, a sample is a sample... the master-program should read each sample in its place, 48000 / second, in a quantified "time grid". So, in my mind, this just cant happen, but it does. Can anyone explain why, and if there is anything one can to in the program (FCP or Logic) when reading the files to ensure actual sample-time accuracy when reading imported files?

    Hi Per:
I have been through this many times. The reason that the devices go out of sync is that their master clocks (the digital equivalent of a crystal in an analog device) are all beating to their own drummers, so to speak. The internal master clocks are all off from each other the second that they began recording. It's just how long does it take before those offsets become greater than one frame of video or film, right?
This is why genlock and video TC sync were invented. What is more frustrating is that the devices do not all slip at the same speed either so usually, one nudge of the audio in one direction or another may line it up for a while, but later down the timeline, you may discover that the devices (camera tracks and the ProTools track) have all lost sync again. On a long show, you may have to do a lot of slicing and dicing to make everything stay in sync. This is the price you pay for not using really big, expensive, professional cameras, there has to be a trade off somewhere.
The best way to mitigate this is to shoot with genlocked cameras with locked TC with the PT rig or a quality TC generator as the master clock. If the projects are shot with non-genlock prosumer type cameras, the next best solution is to rent a giant TC display and position just out of frame in a position that all five cameras can easily pan to, but won't pan to it accidentally as they frame their shots. The master TC display is driven by the PT system. You instruct the cameras ops to quickly photograph just a second or two of it every "whatever length you had before it slipped, probably once every five to ten minutes". In this way, when using multicame to edit, you can quickly locate the TC display frames and slip and slide the tracks accordingly.
This can happen with any non-genlocked, non-TC reading devices. Usually I can get about 20 minutes between my cheap MD recorder and prosumer cameras before I see sync slip. Some devices have better, more steady master clocks, some have really lousy ones that slip quickly.
You just have to bite the bullet and deal with it.

  • RE: Capture Problems on External Drive/Audio drift over time

    Greetings FCP gurus -
I posted earlier on the LAFCPUG board and now seek worldwide assistance with a problem I can't seem to resolve.
Been working in FCP since 1.5. Been successfully capturing on external FW devices for over 4 years with an old 500 MHz Powerbook - no problems.
I recently upgraded to FCP 5 Studio on a PowerBook 1.5 GHZ 512 RAM FW 4/8 machine. Prior to upgrade, I was running Panther (OS X 10.3X) and FCP 4.5 HD. This configuration allowed me to flawlessly capture to external FW drives from Panasonic AJ-D250 DVCPRO deck using a standard DVNTSC codec. Prior to that I was also able to do the same from a Sony DSR-11 deck. No longer.
I now get a constant audio "drift" every time I capture. I've tried shortening the clips to under 10 minutes - even as small as 5 minutes - but the audio progressively drifts as the clip plays on. This is true in both FCP and QT. I completely reformatted the laptop/wiped the drive prior to install (Unjournaled) and it currently has 25 gig available disk space on the 80 gig internal drive. Additionally, I'm using LaCie 7200 RPM Oxford 911 chip-set external drives. I've tried with clean D2 FW 800 and Porsche FW 400 drives to no avail - even reformatted one and still no luck.
    Current configurations attempted:
FW 800 PB port to FW 800 drive port/DVCPRO deck to FW 400 PB port
FW 800 PB port to FW 800 drive port/DVCPRO deck to FW 400 drive port
FW 400 PB port to FW 400 drive port/DVCPRO deck to FW 400 drive port
    ..and so on.
I'm at wit's end and appreciate any insight. Is anyone else having issues capturing to External FW media via FCP 5 Studio/OSX 10.4.x? I don't currently have the option of internal drives to capture as I'm working at a client site. Additionally, I sold my FCP 4.X upgrade software so going backwards is not an option either... Even took the deck home and tried this same trick on my home machine (Dual 500 G4 Sawtooth) to the internal ATA drive with the same result -...drifting audio. Since upgrade this is my first capture and needless to say it's not going well.
Help, information and insight are greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hi Expressofiend! Were you able to resolve this issue yet? We are having an IDENTICAL problem. We shoot on a Canon XL2, and thought that might be causing the audio drifting issue? We also have a Panasonic AD-J 250 deck, and when we capture, say an interview, the lip sync is perfect for a few minutes, then drifts as much as a second or two over 20 minutes of capture. It's making us crazy. Happens when we capture to an external LaCie or our internal drive. We're using Apple's 2.7 gig duel processor computer. 2 Gig of ram, all the latest versions of Tiger, Final Cut Pro 5, etc. If we look at the Quicktime movie - it shows the audio drift - you don't even need to view it through Final Cut!
Interestingly, if we use the Canon XL2 camera as the source player when we capture the 20 minute piece - there is NO audio drift or syncing problem. Only with the AJD 250! We've spoken with the senior engineer at Panasonic - he doesn't think it's the DVCPro unit. Says drifting audio isn't the kind of thing an out of adjustment or broken deck would do.
    Anyway, any answers here yet?
    Thanks,
    Larry

  • Can anyone recommend an audio device for Garage Band?

For the past three years I used Windows and Cubase LE with my Tascam US-122 for multitrack recording. A month ago, I finally switched to MAC (so good!) and my US-122 worked pretty good with GarageBand, except for a milisecond recording latency issue that I was almost willing to live with. Also, my US-122's headphone jack no longer worked so I decided to try the newer tascam US-144 so I could use head phones and to see if it would cure my latency issue. The headphones are ok, but now I get buzzing and hissing when I play back multi-track recordings in both GB and Cubase LE. This is so annoying I haven't even tested the latency problem. I'm ready to send back my US-144 and get something that is known to work well with the MAC OS and GB and eventually Logic Express. Any recommendations?

I "second" Hangtime's recommendation for a Firewire interface. Generally, Firewire interfaces are more reliable, although they are also usually more expensive. If you are serious about recording, and plan to migrate to Logic, it may be worth it for you to spring for a Firewire interface.
You might want to check out the selection on a major retailer's site like Sweetwater Sound. Their website is www.sweetwater.com, and they have just about everything, so it's a great place to check out what's out there. Their sales reps are also pretty knowledgeable (well, some are), but if you call them, make sure they don't sell you anything you don't want!
Budget is obviously a key factor in making a decision. If what you're after is rock solid performance, I've found RME interfaces (the Fireface 800 or the smaller Fireface 400) absolutely rock solid. Apogee's Ensemble and Duet offer very good sound quality sound for the price, but are still more than twice as much as interfaces offering similar features (but not the sound quality). For interfaces at a lower price point offering great bang for the buck, I like M-Audio and Presonus.
