Audio Drifts out of sync. Why?

Hello,
I am completely new to Adobe Encore. I'm using it to author the first-ever Blu-Ray release by our company.
The problem I am encountering is this:
The audio and video files that I have are separate. They were both encoded to the proper specs and came from the same project file, where they were in sync. The same company that encoded the video for Blu-Ray did it for DVD using the same in and out points, and when I was making the DVD in DVD Studio Pro, the sync worked perfectly.
Specs: Video is .m4v at 23.98 progressive 1920x1080 16:9
Audio is .ac3 (I tried using the LCM .aif that I used to make the ac3, but it didn't work either).
I am currently burning a disk image of the Blu-Ray to see if it is just the preview function that is to blame. However, if the issue doesn't go away, what should I do? I am 100% certain that the audio and video were handled correctly, so the problem is almost certainly in Encore somewhere!

So I checked the Encore timeline for gaps; there were none.
I checked to see if a clip was shorter than it should be from another clipoverlapping it; no dice.
I removed all the clips and put them in again; nope.
I checked the Premiere timeline that I am using for the audio for gaps in the video: none there.
I droppped a two-channel wav file into the Encore timeline to see if that went out of sync; it did.
This last one I do not understand. In Premiere, my nested clips have the audio and video linked to each other so they cannot be placed out of sync. Running through the Premiere Timeline shows that the movie stays in sync the entire time.
One thing I did notice is that in Premeiere, in the Export settings window, The entire timeline is 1:49:16 and 50 frames, but in Encore it's 1:49:17 and zero frames. Then I realized that the Encore timeline is set to 29.97fps, as are the video clips I am dropping into it. But the Premiere timeline that I am using to export the audio was set to 59.94fps. So I made a new Premiere timeline set to 29.97fps, rendered the audio out again and placed it in Encore. Still falling out of sync. Tried with a two-channel wav file again, same problem.
I even tried just pasting the audio tracks into a new premiere sequence and exporting that, but that doesn't work either. That actually made things worse.For some reason the video is playing faster than the audio. At the beginning things are fine, but when you get to the end of the timeline, things are noticably out of sync. It's gradual, so there is no one spot that is causing a problem.
How do I fix this?

Audio drifts out of sync since Quicktime 7.6 update!

Help!
Seems like ever since i updated the Quicktime to 7.6 my uncompressed 8 or 10 bit sequences for playout to digital betacam drifts out of sync over time!
But when i just go to the end of the sequence and hit play, everything seems fine.
I just restarted to my old Tiger system and there the problem doesn't seem to be there.
Any ideas??
I use the blackmagic Multibridge Extreme.
Another strange thing is that when i playout to HD, there is also no problem!

I have had my audio drift out of sync also, not with Betacam, but DV. I basically send the audio from FCP to STP and tweek the audio, and then on export back to FCP it adds about 10 frames worth of audio. It starts in sync and then drifts by the end of the sequence. I have had no problems with shorter sequences - ie. 30 sec. The one I am working on now is just over 6 minutes. What is weird is that the sequence length in both FCP and STP are the exact same, but when I export back it drifts and adds in the extra frames.
I tried fiddling with all the framerate settings in STP and it still does it.
I posted last night in FCP and STP forums and haven't had any luck.

Audio drifts out of sync in QT

I have just completed a 30 min., 20 sequence piece. When I create the reference movie the audio drifts out of sync.
It plays fine in FCP (5.1.1). The properies are matched at 1080i50 and 48k in FCP and QT.
Would appreciate some help.

I didn't do the capture, but the media and sequence settings are matched and the QT properties are too at 1080i50 and 48k. I'm not using an external monitor, just viewing from the timeline. I'm done with the project, I was just trying to save myself a copy before it goes to the compositor and composer.
I think I remember reading a post on the same problem somewhere else and it came right when it was encoded for MPEG 2. I'm trying that now, will post the result.

Audio Drifts Out of Sync After Demux

I demuxed an hour-long program from DVD to .m2v and .ac3 using MPEG Streamclip. The audio drifts out of sync very gradually, and by the end is way off.
I don't want to re-compress the audio, as it is already AC3. According to Quicktime, the video is 29.97 fps, and the audio is 16-bit 48 khz.
When I used to Export to DV option, everything stayed in sync. I can't go this route, however, since I can't afford to re-compress anything (I'm making a new DVD from this old one). Just an FYI that this worked.
Ever run into this problem before?

I am using version 1.9. In the preferences pane, I don't have anything checked.
To reiterate, all I'm trying to is demux the DVD as-is and bring those assets into DVD Studio Pro for an updated project. Not using FCP anywhere in this workflow.
Looks like I left out an important piece of info, though...When I demux the audio stream to AC3 (its original format), and try to import it into DVD Studio Pro, I get the error message: "Variable bit rate audio assets cannot be imported." I am not sure how the client originally encoded their audio, but the fact that it stays in sync on the DVD led me to believe they didn't do anything wrong. Could this VBR be throwing the audio off during the demux? The only instances where I've noticed it's out of sync are when I export to an uncompressed format like AIFF or WAV, and can actually view it.

When exporting separate audio and video streams, the audio drifts out of sync

So this is my first slightly larger project in Final Cut Pro X.
When I export my finished project (around 12 minutes long) straight to quicktime, it plays back perfectly.
When I export using compressor, the resulting audio and video streams are two different lengths. The audio comes out a full second longer. If you try to lay them down in a program like Adobe Encore, the audio starts out perfectly in sync. Two minutes in you notice the video is slightly out of sync with the audio. By the end of the video it's comically bad, over a second out of sync.
What's even more vexing is if I try to take the quicktime file that IS in sync upon playback, and try to convert it burn that to a dvd or blu-ray using toast, the problem re-emerges.
I triec searching around, but most of the suggestions that came up were vauge, like, "Upgrade to a real program like Final Cut." (This was in reply to people who were using free software programs.)
I did see one idea surface where 44 and 48 kHz sampling rates don't play well together. So I combed through my project and found all the 44.1 songs that were used, and swapped them out with upsampled versions. Nothing changed. It didn't sound like it would fix it, as people usually said it was a specific amount of frames off, not something drifting out of sync.
So the question is, does anyone have any suggestions on what could be causing this? Thanks! :-)

Project settings can be accessed and changed by selecting the project and pressing command-J. Then, in the inspector, click on the little gear in the lower-right hand corner to access the settings.
Why are you trying to output video/audio separately? If the content plays in-sync when exporting a quicktime movie (using current project settings), you could try separating the video/audio using MPEG Streamclip as a second step instead of using compressor. For audio, don't change the sample rate from the project settings, and use uncompressed audio (AIFF) as the output format.

Audio drifts out of sync PE 3.0

After I burn an .avi onto a DVD, the audio is fine at the beginning but starts to slowly delay as the movie progresses. It drifts out of sync as the movie goes. What do I need to do to keep the audio in sync with the video?

Might try reloading drivers for the capture card... sure sounds like it may well be the problem if non converted footage is in sync...
If this fails, try exporting the HD sequence to compressor and compress it to SD there, then lay out the resulting file from FCP not having the capture card do any conversion.

CD Audio Drifts Out of Sync

Ok, I know this is a known problem as long ago I read something on this, but for the life of me can't remember.
I have a CD with all audio recorded from the sound board from a wedding (They had ambient mics and lapels for the preacher and the bride and groom)
I shot the video with just the on board mics which are decent shotguns.
I captured the footage and ripped the audio off the CD, and lined them up in Premiere. At the start it's fine, but as it goes along it gets progressively out of sync. The audio gets further and further ahead. Now, after 1 hour of footage it's only out of sync about 2 frames. Enough to cause a noticeable echo.
So 2 questions:
It would seem I could use time correction on the audio to change it ever so slightly to match, but will that degrade audio quality?
Otherwise, is there another solution?

I've never had to do anything as long as a wedding, as far as syncing CD audio--just dance performances that are usually less than 5 minutes, so I don't notice any drift. I don't know if this will work or not, but it might be worthwhile trying to resample the CD audio (which is 44.1kHz) to 48kHz.
Use your CD ripper of choice (CDex, for example) to extract the audio to a PCM WAV file, and open that up in your preferred audio editor (Audition, Soundbooth, Audacity, or whatever). Save the file back to a PCM WAV file, but set the sample rate to 48kHz. Import that file into PPro and replace the original version, then check for "unsyncing". As I said, I'm not sure if that'll work, but it's worth a shot.

Audio Drifting Out Of Synce when Exporting to Quicktime

Using FCS2 and all material is HDV 1080i60 with audio 48k. Everything in my sequence plays and renders fine and is in sync. When I export to quicktime movie using current settings the sound goes slowly out of sync so that by the end of the project the sync is horrible and the actual project is short 11 or so frames??
Any suggestions?? I have always done this in the past with no problems but since switching to FCS2 I have had nothing but problems when this comes up.

I had a similar problem when I exported a 20 minute video to an .flv Playback looked and sounded fine but the .flv file direct out of Final Cut was out of sync with audio. I finally used the Render Manager under tools to remove all renders for that sequence and then just re-rendered in one shot. That export was clean. I had tried to break renders and re-render them but it didn't work, but the Render Manager seemed to fix what ever caused it. I haven't noticed again since on any other projects. Good Luck.

Audio drifts out of sync encoding for DVD

I am using Compressor 3.0.5.
I have a DVCPRO HD file I'm trying to encode for a DVD.
Even if I use the default settings in "DVD: Best Quality 120 minutes," the audio and video are completely off by the end by several frames.
The source file was generated from FCP6.0.6, and that file doesn't have any drift issues. I have even successfully used Compressor to encode an H.264 file with no drift using the exact same file.
Why then are the m2v and the ac3 files so off then? They are even different lengths by several frames.
I've tried re-encoding the audio separately at 48K 24bit, (same as FCP settings) and that generated an ac3 that was 32 frames longer than the video, which was exported with the exact same in and out point.
I've even tried breaking it up into 5 separate reels to encode each one individually and then join them in DVDSP, but then each of the 5 separate reels are each off as well, anywhere between 5 to 8 frames by the end.
I spoke to Apple tech support, and they don't know why this is happening. Yet I see many people who have this experience and I can't find the solution. Please help!
I read one post that mentioned it might be using a cluster and multiple cores, so I'll try using a single next, but if anyone has a solution please let me know.

I've had the same issue. It seems to only occur when outputting a 23.98 sequence to Compressor using the cluster.
Another related question: Do the sync issues occur whether you use a reference Quicktime or self-contained?

Audio drifts out of sync with video

Hello --
I just watched the pilot for Conviction in iTunes on my PowerBook. The audio was just fine at the beginning, but by the end of the episode the audio was about 2 seconds behind the video. Everything on my system is up to date (OS, iTunes, Quicktime). Are others experienceing this and can it be corrected. I tried just pausing the video and restarting it but that did not correct the problem.

Why does my audio slip out of sync when exporting?

I am exporting an HD edited video. I shot 1280x720 & editing in FCP 6.0.5. I am using APPLE PRO RES 422 1280x720 30fps 48kz . Should it be (HQ)?? - I do not select re-compress all frames or make self-contained. I just want a QT reference file to view and then burn a DVD. My clip is 43 minutes long. HOWEVER, the audio drifts out of sync BIG TIME. Why is that??

Audio at 48kHz

That's what I thought, however, when I play back the .mov file after exporting using "current settings", that's when I experience OUT OF SYNC audio. Do I ignore that and drag and drop that file into iDVD and let iDVD crunch it??? Is it just the playback of that .mov file that is out of sync?

Why is the video and the audio in iTunes drifting out of sync?

This has been happening for awhile, and it is annoying me quite a bit. I can run the video find directly through QuickTime. I have been serching for an asnwer for awhile now. I have the most recent version of iTunes 10.5. Help would be appreciated. System specs below.

The video usually begins normal, but within seconds the audio and the video drifts out of sync. Pausing and playing the video helped for a few seconds, but it quickly drifs out again. Help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Im having this problem too, upgraded my laptop to windows 8 and the audio and video sync makes movies and tv shows unwatchable. I have tried re-installing itunes but this made no difference

Why does the audio go out of sync on my Apple TV?

Over the past couple of weeks I have noticed that the audio goes out of sync with any streaming video on my Apple TV (3rd gen) after about 20 minutes of usage. I have never had this experience in the past and am not sure why it is happening, but one theory is that it has something to do with AirPlay. I'm pretty sure that this problem only happens after I use AirPlay to connect my Mac to the Apple TV. I'm not sure if this is the exact source of the issue and was wondering if anyone else has experienced this, and if so, what solutions may be available. Thanks.

Why is my dialogue track drifting out of sync?

I have a 5 minute clip 1280x720 - I am using Apple Pro Res 422 and H264 - Clip plays beautifully in the timeline, but when I export the clip as a QuickTime Movie, self contained and NOT recompressing frames, the dialogue track drifts out of sync after 60 seconds. I am approx. half a second out by the end of the clip. HELP!!!

It's a little unclear. What format is the clip (Codec, and audio sampling), and what format is your sequence? If your clip or sequence are h264, that's probably the problem. h264 is not suitable for editing and sources should be converted to a fcp friendly format before editing. Also, all source audio should be 48k 16bit aiff with your sequence audio settings the same.
