Audio driver for Mac Mini 2010

Hi,
I installed Windows 7 using bootcamp on my Mac Mini. During installation the Nvidia HD audio driver was installed. But I read somewhere on a webpage one should install a Realtek Audio driver instead.
Which audio chip is built in the Mac Mini? Is it compatible to Realtek or Nvidia Audio chipset?

  • Audio Output from Mac Mini 2010

    Hello -
I purchased a mac mini 2010 this weekend for use as a home theater PC. I've got it connected to an Onkyo tx-sr604 a/v receiver via HDMI. I then pass the HDMI signal from the Onkyo to my hdtv, so I think it just passes through. For audio, I use a surround sound system. And, in case it matters, I have a second tv connected via the DVI output on the mini.
The Onkyo indicates that the audio input signal on the HDMI is PCM Multichannel. When I play movies (e.g., Netfix or DVD) or music (e.g., pandora) on the mini, I don't get any sound on the center channel in multi-channel mode. In direct mode, I only get sound in the front left and right speakers. I'd like to have normal surround sound.
Is there not a way to get 5.1 surround sound from the mini? Or, am I missing a set up or something? If I connect my receiver to the mini with the digital audio output, will I then receive digital audio?
    Thanks.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Mike it is my understanding that if you want 5.1 Surround sound that you must connect the mini directly to the SS system and not pass the audio signal through another device.

  • HD DVD Drive for MAC mini

Hey. I really want to integrate a Mac Mini into my home theater. However, I want it to play HD DVDs that I buy at the store. Is there a HD-DVD-ROM drive available that could be installed in a mac mini that would support HD-DVDs? And does Mac software even support playing back HD-DVD content?
Are there any rumors that the next mac mini will support HD-DVD playback or Blu-Ray playback?
( I know the Mac plays back HD DVD content made with DVD studio pro. That is different from the HD encrypted content that comes on an HD-DVD from the store. People have tried it with Xbox's external HD-DVD player. It works on a mac but only plays stadard DVD since there is no software for a Mac that can play the encrypted HD-DVD...or whatever you call it.)

It appears there is limited Blue Ray support according to one entry at:

  • Hard Drive for mac mini

    Hi all
I am thinking of getting the: Iomega MiniMax Hard Drive, FireWire/USB 1TB for my mac mini. But I am just looking at this and thinking, does my mac mini sit on top of this? or does it go side by side? Also I have an iomega external HD which has USB support only. But is it easy to transfer all I have on my external HD which is linked to time machine to this new MiniMax HD? is it easy to set up? Also does anyone have any good review's about this product and is it any good? or can anyone recommend anything else? I have looked at time capsule, but i find that is too expensive.
    Thanks

    1. Your Mac mini sits on top of it.
    2. It should be easy. I'd do this:
2A. Connect both drives to the computer.
2B. Open the old drive, select all the contents of the drive (don't go into any folders)
2C. Say copy, then say paste in the new drive. Get some lunch, it takes a while.
    3. Super easy setup, just connect, setup Time Machine, and go.
    4. People love these things because they look just like their mini, and it is a great drive.
    Hope this helps!

  • Audio In for Mac mini 1,42ghz ???

I'm using a Mac Mini 1,42 ghz without Audio In jack that I receive two weeks ago.
    What are the possible solutions?

What kind of audio do you want to import? What application are you going to import the audio into? There is a wide variety of USB or FireWire audio adapters. They range from low-cost to high-end. The most basic adapter is the Griffin Technology iMic. It's only $49.95 (Canadian). The iMic will give you an audio-in port, but you will still need to plug in your own microphone. There are other USB microphones or more sophisticated audio devices out there as well, but the best one for your needs will depend on what you want to use it for.

  • Audio input for mac mini

Well thats it i have made the move and i am now a proud owner of a new mac mini but i have a problem i cant to connect my four track recorder to my mac so as i can record all my music to disk, is there a way around this maybe somekind of usb conector, grrr i'd hate to get rid of my mac just for that reason but its really important to me.
Oh and are there any good free anti virus programs out there for mac.

...connect my four track recorder to my mac so
as i can record all my music to disk, is there a way
around this maybe somekind of usb conector
Yes, there are many products you would buy. Some connect
to the USB others to the Firewire ports. the low end starts at $30 for an "iMic" but if you want professional quality
audio and it sound like yu might if you own a four track mixer then you'd be looking at spending about what you'd expect to spend for another piece of professional audio gear. Actually it's not that bad. $170 will get you a quality audio device with XLR inputs and all that conects the firewire. There guys have a good selection of gear www.m-audio.com
As for anti-virus software. First you need to find a virus. So for there ain't none. So while there are a lot of companies trying to take your money and will sell you software the stack of virus profiles that the software uses is pretty thin. The trick with Mac OS X is to make a logon account for yourself that is NOT an administraitor account and use that account for day to day use. The normal protection offered by non-admin acount will keep you pretty safe
    grrr i'd
hate to get rid of my mac just for that reason but
    its really important to me.

  • Hard drive for mac mini early 2009 model

    Hi,
My hard drive stopped working, and I would like to purchase a new one.
After checking with several vendors, I could not get an official answer if their drive is supported by Mac Mini early 2009 model.
Can you please advice what hard drive vendors/models do you know are supported?
    Thanks

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
The Mac mini uses a 2'5" hard disk, and near all of these hard disks will work with your computer. You can buy the hard disk in OWC > http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/hard-drives/2.5-Notebook/
If you want more information, you can only use 9.5 mm hard drives, so search them in OWC and you will find hard drives that will work with your computer. HGST drives have a good reputation and work very well

  • New Nvidia Driver ver 260 for Mac Mini 2010 and HDMI problems.

So this is the first release from Nvidia that is installable "out of the box" directly from Nvidia. Unfortunately, I'm now running into problems with getting the resolution to scale on my HDMI connected HDTV.
When I go into Nvidia properties and select "Adjust desktop size and position", I'm only give 4 options to change the scaling. Unlike the old Bootcamp version which had an option to manually adjust the screen by make the arrows fit on all sides, this new version has the options of:
When using a resolution lower than my displays native resolution...
    -Use NVIDIA scaling
-Use NVIDIA scaling with fixed aspect ratio
    -Use my display's built-in scaling
    -Do not scale
So when I set my display to 1176x664, The resolution changes, however, it still goes beyond the visible border. Changing any of the options above doesn't seem to change anything-
I'm wondering if anyone is experiencing these same issues, or knows how to remedy it?

I completely agree with your assessment for Problem #1, but here we have it.
I will try re-installing and will also double check with the drivers for the monitor. Thanks for the advice. If all else fails, I will just use parallels.

  • New hard drive for Mac Mini G4 1.42

Hi, with apologies if this is a dumb question...
The Hard Drive on my old backup mini has just died, so I've taken it apart and removed the dead 80gb Ultra ATA seagate drive.
I'm trying to buy a new one online, but no-one seems to sell ultra ATA any more, though EIDE drives seem to be the same thing by a different name.
Can anyone advise me if fitting a 160gb EIDE drive will be OK?
    Thanks!

    Thanks Leet, much appreciated.

  • DVD/Lightscribe drive for new (late 2010 Mac Pro?

Does anyone know a source for an internal DVD w/ Lightscribe drive for a late 2010 Mac Pro? I want to install it in the second drive bay. I got one from OWC, but the depth of the DVD drawer was about twice that of the original drive that came with the Mac Pro. It would have been able to fit through the drop cover on the front of the Pro, but would not clear the internal rack components. It fit in the rack nicely with the 4 screws lining up properly, but would then not open more than about an eighth of an inch before hitting the internal rack frame, causing it to close. Thanks.

Bummer! The instructions included with the drive did not mention thi. When I called OWC customer service she said that sometimes you had to remove the bezel from the Mac. I told her the Pro had no bezel. She said that the drive info did not specifically say it would fit a 2010 Pro a d gave me a RMA.'nmh bad for not questioning further. Thanks.

  • Is mac mini 2010 good enough for iphone app development?

I'm planning to get a Mac Mini 2010, with 4GB of ram instead of the default basic 2GB. I'm getting it to do iphone app development. Is this computer going to be sufficient? Are there any caveats I should be aware of?
    Thanks!

    Hi
I got exactly that setup for exactly that purpose... even the 4GB upgrade Even without the ram upgrade it should still be fine for iPhone app development. I've not run into any problems with mine.
I got my ram upgrade because I want to run Windows inside MacOS using virtualization software - that kinda thing requires lots of ram.
You might want to wait two days though before you buy. Apple has an event on Wednesday (October 20th) and it looks like there will be a lot of focus on Mac, possibly some hardware upgrades and a new version of MacOS.
    Regards

  • Mac Audio Driver (for Screenflow) will not install

I have downloaded a program called Screenflow, which records video and audio of my desktop. It used to work fine with my MacBook Pro but it doesn't work with my new iMac (Lion). The program is supposed to record the computer audio, and when I try to enable it, it asks me to accept it installing the audio driver for it. However, when I click install and enter the passport, it says it is unable to install it. What can I do?
    Thank you very much.

Thank you. By realizing I was able to install the updates individually from the apple website, I discovered that one of the updates apple was trying to install was Airport Utility 6.1, even though I am running Snow Leopard. It apparenly requires 10.7.3 and up. The software update console doesn't seem to recognize this in its search for updates. Thanks again.  -ss

  • Mini DisplayPort to DVI-D adapter works with Mac Mini 2010?

    Hi,
I would like to connect my Mac Mini (2010 edition) to both my Samsung PX2370 display and my LCD TV. Currently, I only have the Samsung display connected through the included HDMI-to-DVI adapter, but I'd like to use the HDMI output to directly connect my LCD TV, and connect the Samsung display by using a Mini DisplayPort-to-DVI adapter, like the one that is for sale at the Apple Online Store. Such adapter should work without trouble with any MAc computer that has a mini DisplayPort output, including the Mac Mini, right?
Thanks in advance for your support.

You're right, but I forgot to mention that the Samsung display is just an LCD monitor, so I don´t really need to get audio output for both connections
Currently, I use an HDMI-to-DVI adapter to connect the Samsung monitor, but I'd like to use the HDMI output to connect my LCD TV instead (and probably a home theater system in the future), and use the Mini DisplayPort output for the monitor, so that I can have a dual-display setup.
I asked this question, because I read the description for the Mini DisplayPort-to-DVI adapter in the Mexico Apple Store web page, and that description tells that only Macbooks support the adapter. In the US Apple Store page, it does tell that the adapter is supported by any Apple computer with a Mini DP connection, so I just wanted to confirm which description is true, to avoid confusions.
Anyway, I appreciate that you took the time to respond... Regards!!
