Audio drop-out in FCPX with 1920x1080 & 2048x1240p @ 24p (codec Apple ProRes 4444 (Linear PCM))24p

Hi all...
I'm new to this forum.
Is there an audio issue (drop-outs) with FCPX (ver 10.1.2) for 1920x1080 24p, 1080p HD & 2048x1240 24p (2k) - note: films in FCPX are in codec Apple ProRes 4444, Linear PCM?
Very recently I've been working on a show reel and I have imported a file (short film) to snip out a section to add to the show reel.
I set the project to the film's settings i.e.. "set based on first video clip"...(1920x1080 24p, 1080p HD).  When I play the film in FCPX the audio "hic-cups"..."dips to silence"..."drops-out" briefly (up to 0.5 secs in duration) and very frequently all the way through (approx 15 mins long film)...note: audio set is at stereo 48kHz. The audio monitors on the right hand side also show the dip taking place (if it's a long enough drop-out).
I also have a version of the film in 2048x1240 24p at 2k, again Stereo 48kHz...and this does the same audio "drop-out" all the way through.  I'm unsure what other formats will create this problem i.e. higher or lower aspect ratios than those above.
Is this a software and/or OS issue?  Or a hardware issue?  Or both!?
About This iMac details:
iMac 27 inch: OS X ver 10.9.4
Processor: 3.5 GHz Intel Core i7
Memory: 32 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M 4096 MB
Fusion Drive 3.12 TB
Final Cut Pro X was bought & installed with this iMac back in Feb 2014
FCPX version: 10.1.2
Note also:  I used Compressor (ver 4.1.2) to convert the files (movies) above to Apple ProRes 422 HQ, Linear PCM and the issue disappeared - the audio and visuals played with no problems.  All films play with no issue when opened in QT player.  They are also fine when exporting from FCPX.  The issue only occurs (as far as I can tell) within FCPX when editing or playing the audio there.
Has anyone encountered this problem?
Kind Regards,
Hakan

Hi Luis,
Thank you for that.
Seems like you have a point about the "hardware" issue.  I'm unsure (new to it all) at what data rate my (er...wonderful) fusion drive provides FCPX for smooth playback - or where I can find that info on the iMac.  Playing back movies in the 422 HQ codec seems to have no issues (when I converted the movie from 4444 HQ).
But playing the full 4444 HQ, the picture is smooth, but the audio has these drop-outs - even with "best performance" option ticked. Interesting that the audio suffers, not the picture in FCPX - so not sure what's going on there. I also read - perhaps - that to play a smooth ProRes 4444 HQ movie in FCPX the data rate should be min of 500 Mbs (based upon About Apple ProRes) for HD movies and up (i.e. 2k).  ProRes 422 HQ needs a data rate of 220 Mbs - so that is my upper-limit to smooth video&audio playback with the current system I have, I guess.
Does anyone recommend a fast USB3 or Thunderbolt drive (500Mbs+) where I am able to run 4444HQ movies with no issues to picture or sound (away from the fusion drive)?

  • Video playback slow and audio drop out after render

    Hi
I have downloaded a trial version of After Effects from the cc,
Problem is everytime I render ou,t the video playback is slow and the audio drops out
This happens with AVI or Quicktime files.
Using a Intel i5 quad core, 8 gig of ram 250 gig ssd.laptop
Render/export in Premire pro is fine.
    Can any one help.

It sounds like you might be hitting the space bar in hopes of getting real time playback.  Sorry, but AE doesn't work like that, because it does totally different things from an editing application like Premiere.
And if you've downloaded the tryout version, you really ought to learn how AE works... and a short description is "it doesn't work intuitively".  You can frustrate yourself in a hurry.
    But this can really help;

  • ITunes scratchy he||...with audio drop outs

I use iTunes v7.4.2 all the time to play music. Only lately my iTunes has been sounding very intermittently scratchy (static-y) and the audio drops out (without the diamond moving) at unexpected intervals (anywhere from 10 sec to several minutes). When I try to hit the volume buttons, I don't get any feedback sounds like usual. Waiting it out seems to be the only remedy...then it comes back again, and again...
I use MenuMeters to monitor my CPU and bandwidth speed and so I notice that this happens most when I am downloading torrents. Very frustrating! Curiously, I tried running a bootable clone of my system on a separate drive and I found that the problem went away (I'd have to run it for longer to be sure though). Could this be a sign of imminent hard drive failure?
Has anyone else experienced these issues? Does it sound like a hardware or software issue?
    Thanks for any replies,
    -Bill

  • Audio Drops Out Mid-Clip

    Hiya
So, working in FCPX 10.06....and I have a clip the storyline, and for no real reason, the audio drops out. I've tried to re-import the clip as the source in the event folder is fine, and still, the sound disappears?
    No clue.
    Help

Can you give complete specifications of the clip with the problem? Post a screen shot of the movie inspector from the QT player.

  • FCP X Audio Drop-Out or Audio Gap on Timeline.

    Hello fellow FCPX-ers.
I am posting this thread on a few forums as I have encountered a very weird issue taking place.
Trying to figure out if the issue I am encountering is a bug/glitch or a technical issue.
This has consistently occurred in three different projects now all shot at different times. The audio has been fine on the camera during the recording process and has been fine in it’s RAW NATIVE SOURCE.
    THE ISSUE
For some reason my audio keeps dropping out on my timeline and it is creating audio skips/clicks making it impossible to export proper audio or fix the gaps on the timeline.
Screenshots are attached to this thread for a visualization example.
I have followed the process and finished troubleshooting with it all the way to FCP X.
Thus, I am able to pinpoint that whatever is going on is a FCP X issue
The audio is fine until it reaches the FCP X timeline.
I have tested the RAW FILE in VLC player and there is no audio drop-outs
I have also tested the video file in Sony Vegas Video and the audio is fine.
    The Digital Workflow:
It start’s off as a .M2T file which is then run through Clipwrap 2.6.4 as a (rewrap as source format) and then eventually makes it into FCP X and is placed on the appropriate timeline.
I have had this same error for three different projects now.  It has occurred both when using the NATIVE VIDEO FORMAT and when trying to use the (rewrap 1920 x 1080 format)
Thanks in advance for your time and help.
    reggie-

You don't say what your audio settings are for Clipwrap. If you're exporting mp3/AAC or other player format, then FCPX is probably having problems dealing with those formats.
You might try selecting your audio (or related video) tracks and rendering (Control-R) and see if that fixes the dropouts. You can also try selecting the clips in the Event Browser, right-clicking and selecting Transcode from the popup (if the options are available.)
The "native" FCPX audio format is WAV( ! ) AIF/AIFF and CAF will work just as well.  The transcode options should be PCM (or LPCM,) 24 bits/sample and 48kHz sample rate (or "better" - but the sample rate should match your project settings.) If you have control over these options in Clipwrap, you should set them accordingly.

  • HELP! Audio Drops Out When Trying to Capture Canon XL2 Footage

Please help me out here. I'm a freelance camera operator w/ a Canon XL2 and several times now I've gotten calls from the editors saying they're having problems logging my footage, mainly the audio drops out quite a bit, and I'm not talking bout one second for every 2 or 3 minutes. No. It's like every 10 seconds the audio drops in and out.
What's the deal? Two times the guy was using a Panasonic DVX-100A to capture, another time it was a SONY DSR mini-DV deck. With each incident I had to go over with my XL2 and use it as the capture device, which is a pain.
The program they're using is FCP HD or 5. But I think even when they just play the tape in their Sony or Pany cameras, the audio may still suck.
Help me out here, I can't be the only one with this problem.
    Thanks.
    -R

Well Robert Swanson, I hope my post wasn't taken offensively, it certainly wasn't meant as such. The only Canon camcorder I owned was the GL1. After switching to Sony's I can honestly say it would take something significant to go back. And, I was merely relating my experiences in trying to capture from other Canon camcorders so that I know where you are coming from. However, I am interested in the HVX being the "noisest" camera on the market. I am seriously considering this camera and would be interested in a review that points this out. I would be using the hard drive recorder instead of P2 cards.

  • Audio drops out when following video to external monitor

When I play a sequence to an external monitor, the audio drops out for 2 to 3 seconds after changes on the video track, and then pops back in with no interuption in video output. It doesn't happen at every cut, but it's consistent in the places it does. I thought it might be caused by the size the project has become. So I exported the sequence as a quicktime file, closed the lage project, opened a new one and exported the new file and played it and it happened again, even though there were no edits. It doesn't occur at all when I turn off external video, and play it on the computer. I connected a new firewire from the computer to my DV deck, restarted the computer, but it keeps happening.
Is it that the dramatic change in color, light and compostion crowding out the audios ability to follow the video through the wire?
I'm completely stumped. The next step will be to open the computer and try to blow any excess dust out. I do this periodically anyway, and my last time was two months ago, so I'd be surprised if it works.
Maybe the G4 with 2G processing power can no longer handle the program, but it shows no sign of stuggle in any other way.
My clients are starting to grow restless.

Thank you so much X & Paul, for your suggestions. Although they didn't solve the problem, they kept me hopeful enough to continue my quest for an answer. After exhausting all effort to find the problem in the audio, I decided to focus on the video. So, I tried correcting the excess luma on the consolidated QT movie, and suddenly the problem was fixed. Because of the different levels of correction I'd need for each and every cut in the original sequence, and the precious time it would take, I'd planned to save it for the color correction stage, a mere 2 weeks away. I remembered how illegal white would often cause the image on some monitors, specifically consumer TVs, to waver for a second. But this was happening all the way back to the DV deck's audio meter, so I never expected it to be a luma issue.
I assume that the outdating capacity of my G4 played a part, but I wanted to write back with my thanks, and to impart my illuminated wisdom to the next perplexed soul.
    Thanks again,
    jesterhead

  • Video & Audio Drop Outs on Macbook Pro

I have a MacBook Pro with Version 10.7.3, 6 months old. Just recently when I play video, regardless of whether it's in iTunes, iMovie, or embedded in Keynote the video sticks, audio drops out for 1 -2 seconds or the shot freezes. What causes this and how is it fixed.

I apologize for the audio drop outs. I have sent you a private message to get account information from you so we can reprogram your boxes.

  • Is itunes 8 fixed (audio drop out)?

itunes plays fine for a number of tracks and then the audio drops out completely at the beginning of a new song despite the interface appearing to be playing as normal.
This was the major pain - even though it only took a pause and restart to get the audio back - it happened so frequently. I should point out that this may be related to my airport Express network, but it went silent on both my external speakers and my computer.
I found a number of posts outlining the same problem but no solutions that worked apart from one great one (sorry, can't find it now) which confirmed it was a problem with itunes 8. True enough, after exhausting every other avenue, i have reverted to itunes 7 and the problem has disappeared.
The problem is that I have lost many other upgraded features so can anyone advise me as soon as this issue is resolved in a more up-to-date version of itunes so I can upgrade without the problem returning.

Unfortunately, this is a known problem which Apple seems to be brushing under the carpet. Communication problems using Airtunes has been affecting a lot of users here. Try following the procedure outlines in the sticky of this forum entitled ' Solutions for AirTunes Issues in iTunes 8', and hope for the best. If that doesn't work, I guess you're in the same boat as the rest of us, and will have to wait till Apple sorts out this problem.

  • IDVD '08 Slideshow Audio Drop Out

    Hi
I've recently upgraded to IDVD '08 & produced a slideshow of 301 pictures with music. I get a moments audio drop out at each 100th picture. I know this to be a problem when the disc is played on a DVD player, but not on a computer. I had hoped that by upgrading to IDVD '08 the problem would have been eliminated. Can anyone advise if there is a way of solving this issue, other than producing separate slideshows of 99 picture & less.
Any help would be much appreciated.

The behavior you described above is actually normal for iDvd for anything over 99 images per slideshow. Not much you can do about it short of creating multiple slideshows as you mentioned above. That or making your slideshow as one long QT movie but you may notice a quality loss.
Or you can try a few other apps like:
    http://www.boinx.com/fotomagico/overview/
    http://www.lqgraphics.com/software/phototomovie.php
Roxio Toast has a slideshow option as well. You might want to look into this.
DVDSP might give you slightly better results but then again it's much more money and takes weeks/months to learn as opposed to a few hours / days.

  • Audio Drop Out

No matter how many minutes of audio or photos (believe me I tried from 2 minutes to 25 minutes of audio and 10-150 photos) that I use in DVD 6, the audio drops out for 3 seconds, always about 1 minute before the finale. Is anyone having the same problem.
I tried magic slideshow, all combinations and still...audio drops out.
When I used the 99 photo limit with the fit to audio minutes, nothing like this happened.
If there is a fix, please let me know.
    Thank You all

    Welcome to discussions, Bob:)
What is the source of the audio where the drop-out occurs? Purchased iTunes?
If so, burn the audio to an audio CD and import from that.
Also, how much free space do you have on the iBook?

  • Audio Drop out @ every 2 seconds

Having issue with the Audio dropping out every @ 2 seconds, indepentant of source (local, sync'd computer and web trailers). Have done factory reset, still doing the same thing. AppleTV is connected to the TV through HDMI connection.

Try turning your tv (not tv) off and on.

  • Audio drops out of Premiere Pro CC2014

Working on an older Mac Pro running Mavericks, the audio drops out suddenly. It can be from initial launch of a new project, or one in progress while you're in the middle of an edit session. And when I say "drops out", it literally goes entirely away, no output to speakers and no internal metering within Premiere. The only indication that you actually have audio on a clip is the drawn waveforms on the files themselves in the Source window or on the Timeline, plus you know the media that you're working with. I've tried to move the media cache files to a different location, delete them and make the project re-conform audio and indexed files, but the only thing that really works is to shut down completely and let it sit for about 10 mins. Too quick of a re-boot and it comes up the way you shut it down, dysfunctional, and a restart definitely will not work. Any ideas anyone?

    TGlen,
Can I get the specifics of your Mac and any third party hardware that is connected including drives and capture hardware? FAQ: What information should I provide when asking a question on this forum?
    Thanks,
    Kevin

  • Audio Drop Out/Popping sound Problem

    Hi,
For the last few weeks (since i installed snow leopard i think), i have been getting a lot of audio drop outs, where all of a sudden the sound goes dead and i get a popping sound coming from my speakers.
I am using a pre sonus fire studio project audio interface, with its firmware updated to the latest (the latest update was a beta snow leopard update).
I am running logic pro 8 with snow leopard 10.6.2.
I think i have narrowed the problem down to my presonus fire studio because i totally disconnected it and used logics built in audio soundcard and i didn't get any audio drop out at all.
I was just wondering if anyone had any similar experiences or ideas and suggestions on what is best to do?
thanks in advance for any help.
    Tom

It depends, are you running off battery when this happens? If so then morethan likely it is the audio hardware coming back online. In an effort to conserve power, what Mac OS X does is when you are on battery is that it turns off your audio hardware when it has not been used for a certian amount of time. This popping sound is typical of the audio hardware being powered up.

  • UPDATE: Audio dropping out in places after publishing MP4 in Captivate 7

UPDATED: Bumping this up thread, in the hopes someone will see it and reply. No one has any suggestions? I'm really struggling with this and getting super frustrated. Anyone from Adobe reading this? Thoughts? Thanks in advance for any help that can be provided.
I've had this issue on other tutorials I've done, but today I'm at my wits end.
I have a short presentation (3 slides - about 2 1/2 minutes total). The slides were imported from PowerPoint. The audio was recorded directly in Captivate. I've made sure to leave a bit of silence at the beginning and end of each slide.
The audio in preview is perfect. When I publish as a SWF or HTML 5 files, the audios is perfect. Unfortunately for me, I need the output to be MP4.  When I publish it as an MP4, on the second and third slides, the audio drops out in several places - the first slide is fine. it does not occur at the beginning or end of slide, it's sporadically within the audio.
For instance, it will be something like this "First look at the feed display (in the middle of the) page. It's divided into (three) sections. In the (federation feed section) you'll find the (activity), and updates across the interoffice (user base), in the My Feed section you will find a filtered set of (discussions based) on your interests."
The words in parentheses would drop from the audio. I've force republished 10-12 times today. Each time, the audio chooses to drop out different words  - occasionally the same.
There seems no rhyme or reason to what's occurring. Help! I'm on a really tight deadline.
Can you recommend any fixes or settings that may help this? It feels like a crap shoot - I just keep trying different things and hoping that eventually I'll get something usable.
Thanks for any help or suggestions you can provide.
PS I've also copied the slides into a brand new project and had the same result when publishing.

Have either of you tried deleting the preference files and then running a disk repair?
    Quit iDVD.
Locate a file named com.apple.iDVD.plist and get rid of it. iDVD will create a new one the next time it runs. Empty the trash and run a permission repair using the Disk Utility.
The files can be found here:
