Audio dropped frames

Several of my mini DV tapes have audio dropped frames. Intermittent audio gaps are mostly one frame in length.
There's no problem at all with the visual portion of the video.
Does Audition have a way to automatically fill in audio gaps? If not, can anyone name another software solution for this problem?
thank you a lot

Audition cannot do it automatically. Anyway it depends very much on the nature of the audio that is missing.
That said using the Spectral View in Auditions Editing screen will make fairly easy to do manual repairs by selecting, copying and pasting similar audio over the gaps.

  • Audio dropped frames in CC 2014

Since installing the Premiere Pro CC 2014 update I am constantly getting dropped audio frames. I know this was a known issue and that a bugfix was issued for the CC version in April of this year. Now it appears to be back in this version. Has anyone else been experiencing this? Or does anyone know of a fix for it?

I'm having an issue where some of or all of the audio tracks just drop out during playback (green bar). I have to stop/start the playback and all is fine until the next random time it does it.

  • Dropped frames or out-of-sync audio

Using Sony HDR-FX1 and FCE-HD is set to DV-NTSC. I've also tried DV-NTSC Firewire Basic. I've been trying various suggestions I've found in the Discussions to cure dropped frames that prevent me from capturing and out-of-sync audio making footage I do capture useless. Mac is running 10.4 with 5.5 GB of RAM and dual 2 GHz G5.
I'm capturing to my main hard drive which has plenty of space - when I'm done editing, I archive old footage on an external drive.
"Abort capture on dropped frames" is currently checked. Lately, this means I can't get more than a few seconds without the capture stopping. This never used to happen, now it happens all the time no matter what tapes I'm capturing from.
If I uncheck it, the audio on the captured footage is out of sync. Over time, as I've been trying to trouble shoot this using the Discussions, my projects remain unfinished and deadlines are looming sooner and sooner.
If someonce could please help me I'd be very grateful.

    Hi(Bonjour)!
Did you shoot in DV or HDV ?
Did you try to capture HDV with Apple Intermediate Codec 1080i60 (or 50 for europe)?
Does you downconvert HDV shooted to DV upon capturing from camcorder ?
DV-NTSC 48 kHz is the way to go with downconverted material.
Does your DV audio setting is 16 bit on FX1 ? (HDV is a fixed one).

  • Dealing with dropped frames and out of sync audio

    Hi!
I'm using Final Cut Studio 3 and I'm trying to record some video from a pretty old MiniDV-camera. The problem is that a have some dropped frames and when I record the whole thing it gets out of sync.
By default Final Cut aborts the capture (without saving) when it finds dropped frames. That won't work for me. I start recording, it records a couple of minutes and then it just aborts without saving anything.
I tried to record the entire tape when using the option of not aborting on dropped frames. I recorded the entire video but not it gets more and more out of sync later and later in the video.
So, do you have any suggestions on how to deal with this? Maybe I can use an external application for this cause I haven't found a way to deal with this in Final cut.
    Best
    Felix

New to FCP. Dropped frames when playing section in the timeline w/audio, Viewer plays fine tho. Plays for bout 1 sec with no sound, nothing showing coming through the audio meters. Problem came out the blue, made no conscious changes to settings. FCP 7.0.3. iMac, 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5. OS10.8.4. If any other info needed please let me know, will be happy to provide it. Thanx.

Thank you for the help. Below is my Source footage and sequence settings.
The other footage I have on the timeline is an mp3 file made in Garage Band and some footage I sent to Motion to edit. I do have some offline media on there since I switched computers but FCP had been working fine for a few months with it on there. I have not tried trashing my FCP Preferences. If I did would I have to back up my project?

  • Audio clip dropping frames/skipping

I opened up a project in Premiere Pro CC, and the audio waveforms were gone although the track was enabled. When I opened the audio track in the source monitor, the entire audio clip was completely compressed from 3:04 to 1:33 and was skipping pretty badly when I played it. I tried converting it to mp3 and aiff but with no luck. How do I fix this?

The audio should be 48k, 16 bit, stereo (or mono). But the sample rate should be 48k.
32-bit floating point refers to video rendering, not audio.
What school is this, BTW? And tell us about the networking configuration, please, so we can try to figure out your dropped frames issue.

  • Compressor 4.1.1 dropping frames of audio

When a video is compressed using Compressor 4.1.1 we are seeing single frames of audio dropping at random points in the compressed video. In each of these screen shots the original prores video is the middle track, the bottom track is the first time trying an encode, and the top track is the second time trying the encode. They are going from ProRes 422 1920x1080 to h.264. This happens regardless of the destinatin resolution. The video is uneffected.

We've been having the same problem, with one difference.  The dropouts aren't happening at random points, they are happening right where the segments are stiched back together.  If I see for example that Compressor is breaking the piece into 3min segments to process, I know I'll have to check for dropouts at the 3min, 6min & 9min points in the final m4v.  (Though in truth, there is not a dropout at every stich point, but quite a few).  We have had this happen not only when using multiple computers, but when simply using multiple instances on our 12-core Mac Pro.

  • Dropped frames; audio out of sync; won't capture

Running the Intel of version of 3.5
I'm getting dropped frames and this message:
"The audio sample rate of one or more of your captured media files does not match the sample rate on your source tape. This may cause the video and audio of these media files to be out of sync."
AND... when I get the dropped frames everything before that point is not recorded and captured to my bin.
    What's going on?

Double check your Easy Setup matches the tapes audio
    rate and also:
Does the tape have any LP bits on it?
Al- I understand the Easy Setup, but how do I know the tapes audio ra te and whether it has any LP bits (whatever that is) on it?
    TIA

  • Different Audio rates & audio formats = drop frames?

I´m getting a lot of drop frame errors during playback in the time line.
Now that I want to print my movie to tape the drop frames of course disturb this process, making it impossible.
I noticed that I have material with different audio rates and audio formats. Could this cause it and how do I make a conversion so that all of my audio is the same rate & format.
Audio captured with my camcorder is: 48KHz, 16-bit integer.
CD music in time line is: 44.1KHz, 16-bit integer.
Timeline is: 48KHz, 32-bit floating point
(The things that FCP suggests to do when drop frames occur; turning RT to Safe, buying a faster computer etc. havn´t helped, so the problem must be somewhere else)

You could try exporting your sequence as a self contained QuickTime Movie. This would give you one file with one set of rates and formats. Be sure to set up the export for 48Khz 16 bit. Once that's done, import the file back to your project, place it in a new sequence and try printing that to tape.
If you're just concerned with getting smooth playback in the timeline you could also try doing an audio mixdown. This is a good thing to do before printing to tape as well.

  • How to tell if video is drop frame or non-drop frame in Encore?  Need info to use correct SCC file.

    Hi,
Thanks in advance. I am using Encore DVD 2.0 to add closed captions to video. I have both a drop frame SCC file and a non-drop frame SCC file. How can I tell which one to use? Can I tell from the way the timecode looks on the timeline? Do I look at the timeline timecode or the source timecode? For example, in a random area of video the timeline says 00;02;50;24 while the source says 00:02:50:20.
    Thanks.

Thanks jbowden and Jim for your help. Although I'm still not real clear how Encore notes DF vs NDF (more on that below), I got my problem solved.
Regarding DF vs NDF in Encore DVD...There doesn't seem to be a real consistent method of identifying which is which. For example, Jim suggested that I look in the Project panel for the colons vs semicolons. There, the video file timecode was shown as xx;xx;xx;xx with semicolons, apparently suggesting that it is DF. However, the timeline and audio file listed in the project panel also showed semicolons in the timecode. Then, down on the timeline, the timeline was shown as xx;xx;xx;xx while right next to that it said "Source xx:xx:xx:xx" with colons! So, if I go by the project panel, the video is DF. If I go by what it says down in the timeline, the video is NDF. As it turns out, subtitles and CC only match up if I use the NDF versions of them, not with the DF versions, which indicates that my file was NDF. So, in the end, I'd say that the way the timecode is represented in the project panel didn't mean anything, at least not in this case.

  • Full screen preview drops frames

    Hi all,
A continuation of the thread I opened here (with hardware specs for information):
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/657008?tstart=0
Whilst I resolved the tearing issue secribed in the previous thread I still can't get smooth playback on the third full screen preview display and I'd like some basic advice as to what I could do:
A couple of things I have tried - firstly I tried a basic sequence with a spinning graphic (in order to rule out any issues with disk/network access), and then also tried two screens rather than three (so only one graphic card was in operation), a 60p/30p project with screens set to 60Hz and a 50p/25p project with screens set to 50Hz.
All to no avail - the full screen preview drops frames, especially with 50p content - 25p is better but every 20 seconds or so frames are dropped. Audio is always fine, regardless of the source, BTW.
As a reminder, this is a 12 core i7 with 2 x Quadro FX3800, all unnecessary services disabled, 12Gb RAM, CS5 5.0.3, latest WHQL Nvidia drivers.
Not sure if 5.5 improves this in any regard as I'm still waiting for my licence key.
Video playback outside of premiere is perfect, 1080p50 plays fine full screen on any display through windows media player/VLC.
Any suggestions please - again I wonder if a Blackmagic Intensity or similar would help?
Has anyone else seen this behaviour? Could anybody have a go a reproducing the issue (a simple spinning or sliding jpg demonstates the issue easily and simply)
    Thanks all
    Sacha Goodwin.

There exist no 12 core i7's. The max is hexa-core, but in your previous thread you said Xeon X5670. So what is it?
Well spotted, my bad - it is indeed 2 x hexa-core X5670's - which of course is 12 cores in total.
I still suspect your Editshare NAS.
I'd say unlikely since - we've replaced it with something else, also:
I tried a basic sequence with a spinning graphic (in order to rule out any issues with disk/network access)
and at any rate I tried it as a local project on local disks and it made no difference.
For graphic read plain color matte and basic SD res JPG (same results with either)
What happens when you increase memory to 24 GB?
No idea as I don't have access to any - strikes me as odd though to think anyone would need 24Gb or RAM just to display a rotating still smoothly.
Premiere is showing 300Mb of RAM, total RAM in use when everything is loaded and running is 3Gb, 9Gb free sitting there twiddling it's virtual thumbs.
BTW I should also mention that this happens even on SD projects, not just HD ones. Also watching the task manager shows virtually CPU usage, no disk and no network access during playback (as I would expect). No peaks in any graphs correllating with the dropped frames. Also enabling/disabling MPE Hardware assist makes no difference.
    Sacha.

  • Dropped frames in FCP 6.0.4

    Hello,
I have just shot a wedding and have 4 x 40 min. mini-dv tapes that I have captured. I had the 'there are dropped frames' message after capturing the footage but have had this before several times and have not experienced any problems so just ignored it, however this time appears to be different.
My audio is way out of sync with my video because the audio obviously continued to be captured over the dropped frames which has pushed the video out of sync.
I am half a country's distance away from my physical tapes so cannot re-capture the footage. I have isolated the dropped frames within FCP using the 'analyze long frames' tool but would really rather not have to go through the icky process of re-aligning the audio with the video between these points.
I was really hoping that someone may know of a plug-in that could do this re-syncing job for me, I have googled but couldn't find anything, this or any other help/advice would be much appreciated.
    Cheers.

My current thinking is I will have to make the journey to perform a re-capture, but to make sure the journey is not in vain should I amend my user preferences?
I have the 'sync audio to video source if present' checked which I think could be causing me problems, because FCP might be trying to sync audio to the dropped frames, which is causing the sync-issue.
I have the 'abort capture on dropped frames' unchecked, otherwise the capture would be ridiculous.
Is the only practical solution to dub the tapes to new tapes with unbroken timecodes? Help much appreciated.
    Thanks.

  • Can't Get Rid of Dropped Frames in FCP 7

    Hello all,
I am editing in FCP and have only gotten as far as laying down a music track (MP3), and some b-role. I have given myself some space at the beginning of the track, and as soon as the video kicks in I get the dropped frames message. There are no fancy edits or effects, just the video. It happens with both .MOV files taken with my Canon 7D, and with footage I had converted from .MTS.
The RT drop-down menu in the timeline only offers the following options:
    Play Base Layer Only
    Use Playback Settings
    Full Quality
I have gone into Playback Control under System Settings and adjusted the options to the following:
    RT: Safe
    Video Quality: Low
    Frame Rate: Quarter
I am still receiving the dropped frame message. My footage is stored on a 500 GB external Rugged LaCie drive, and is connected using 8-pin FireWire. The footage is being edited in 1080. Everything is up to date.
    Much appreciation for your help.

    Thank you both for replying.
I converted the audio file (but still getting the error message) to AIFF/16bit/48kHz using iTunes. I had converted the .MTS fils to .MOV with iSkysoft Converter to the following settings:
    Resolution: 1920x1080
    Frame Rate: 23.97
    Bit Rate: High Quality
    Channel: 2 Channels stereo
    Sample Rate: 44100
    Bit Rate: Medium
I did not convert any of the Canon files to Pro Res. What do I need to do with those files? and is there something I can do during capture to help save a step in post?
    Thanks again to you both!
    Warmest regards,
    ~Shawn

  • Dropped Frames During Playback, How Much Hardware Should I have

I have a Mac Pro Dual Xeon 2.66 with 1 gig of ram and the Nvidia 256 meg card, I added a second hard drive which is a Seagate Barracuda 320GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s and that is my scratch disk. I was trying to play a sequence that is from the tutorial disk in the Final Cut Pro 5 book by Diana Weynard. For those who know the book it is the "adding text" sequence from lesson 15.
I can play most of the sequences on the book's dvd in real time fine except for this one. With this one as soon as I get to the clips that have a lot of audio channels as well as a lower third text effect I get the dropped frames message. I can render the whole sequence and watch the whole thing fine. Really my question is this: I thought having spent what I did on a mac pro that would be enough hardware power to play back almost anything in real time, but do I need something else like more memory or the faster ati video card to play back this "heavier" sequences?
I've tried various solutions like deleting my pref file, reducing the number of real time audio mixing tracks to just 2. I even deleted the audio tracks in teh sequence so there were only 2 video tracks that had to play - a person speaking with just one outline video effect on the track above, and still it drops frames.
    Thanks.

Some of those sequences are HD. A single 7200 rpm drive will only deliver one or two HD streams without choking. My 7200 rpm internals will only deliver 4 streams of DV before skipping. If I move some clips to another drive and segregate my render files to another drive I can get up to 6 DV streams but it's not reliable.
Processing the audio requires significant overhead as does recovering the audio segments of the files. I rarely have more than 6 tracks open.Lowering the playback quality will increase the numbers of tracks you can play in realtime.
History note: Older NLEs required audio and video to be captured to separate drives, unnecessary with DV.
