Audio drops out of burned movie

Hey all.. I've burned a DVD twice now, and the audio is dropping out silent at the same point 3 minutes before the end of a 90 minute movie... the QT movie (H264) is fine, but when encoded in iDVD, i get the audio dropping out completely.
Anyone see this before?

I've seen audio drop/s before on an iDVD that exceeds 99 images.....yes.
(but not normally at the very tail end of the DVD). I've also seen audio drop and/or out of sync audio when not using the recommended 16 bit audio. Sometimes people forget that iMovie & iDVD works best with 16 bit and NOT so well with 12 bit audio.
Let me know if any of these are useful:

  • Audio drop out after burning to iDVD

I am running FCE 2 and checked all of my audio (mixed it down and everything). Plays well when I run FCE. When I burn the clips to iDVD, I notice that the audio drops out in certain scenes, and it's the same scenes. Ruined 5 dvds so far after trying to a few things.
I am using all internal HDs (Extended Journaled). Any suggested would be appreciated. Thanks

    Hi
    a. Audio from iTunes - has to be used by a work around
I do - create a Playlist in iTunes with needed audio
Burn out as an Audio-CD (.aiff) Not .mp3
Use this audio in Your FinalCut project
    b. I do from FCE/P to iDVD
    • Export out as a QuickTime .mov file
    • Not selfcontained (not important but saves time and space)
    • NO QUICKTIME Conversion (Important)
    c. To get iDVD to run OK
    • Secure a minimum of 25Gb free space on Start-Up (Mac OS) hard disk ! (others of no importance)
    • I use Verbatim DVDs
    • DVD-R
    • Burn speed set down to x4 or x1 (only relevant to newer iDVD)
(Instead download the Hack (Hurz and Pfurz) that makes it possibly to do a DiskImage with iDVD4
if earlier iDVD versions - forget this
then save as a DiskImage - test it with DVD-player tool and see that it runns OK
THEN do the actual DVD burn by using Disk Util tool from this DVD image You just did.
AND Here You can set down burn speed to x4 or x1.
    • iDVD 4 disc image burning can be enabled through the patch Hurz and Pfurz - search the net.
    Good luck Yours Bengt W

  • Audio drops out after burning to a disk.

I just finished my Final Cut Express project and used iDVD to burn it to a disk. Half way through the slide show, the audio drops out.
Is there a way to fix this?

Last week, this song played fine on the burned copy.
Is this problem now showing up in the iDVD preview mode? Or is it with subsequent burned DVD's?
Go back to your project in iDVD. Go to File>Save as disk image. This will create a file that can be viewed on your computer's DVD player. The disk image will show you how your project will appear when played on a standard DVD player. See if this problem is repeated. If everything is fine, go ahead and burn the DVD using Disk Utility.
    I hope this helps.

  • Audio dropped out when burned on DVD - PRE.

I have finished my movie on PRE 8 and burned it on a DVD in high quality. The problem is the background music works, but the audio from the videos is dropped out. When I play it on PRE 8, the audio works perfectly. The video and audio comes from a JVC Everio HDD. Everything works fine until I burn it.
I did not use Instant Movie or Audio Mixer because I did it manually.
Is there anything I need to do before I burn the DVD, or do I need special settings?
Another problem I have is that Organizer turns off and does not work.

    Patrick,
You gave me an idea for two tests. They are simple and fairly quick and will not require any real editing in PrE, or another NLE.
    Test 1:
From Export/Share, Export your movie. I think you are doing SD/DVD work, so choose DV-AVI. Export just the Video (checkbox for Video and Audio, and you want Video only). This will give you a silent Video-only file. Now, Export>Audio (choose PCM/WAV 48KHz 16-bit) to get an Audio-only file. Test this Audio-only file. Did you get both the AV's Audio and your Soundtrack? You should. Then, create a new Project to the right specs., and Import those two files. Note, your exact placement of the Audio-only file might not be on Audio Track 1, and just let it go to Audio Track 2. I'd not use Narration, or Soundtrack. Test. Burn to a DVD RW disc, so you do not create a coaster, and test again.
    Test 2:
Do a Save_As, name and locate it. Delete your music from the Soundtrack. Export/Share the movie with both Audio & Video. Test. If things are working now, without the Soundtrack, I'd bring in your music, but try placing it on Audio Track 2. Test. Note: an alternative to this would be to do two Save_As Projects. In one, remove the AV's Audio completely, and then Share/Export just your Soundtrack as an Audio-only file. Choose the same PCM/WAV 48KHz 16-bit. Then Import that into the first Save_As, the one with no music. Again, try placing this file on Audio Track 2. Test.
I worry that maybe one, or both of the fixed Audio Tracks, Narration, and/or Soundtrack, is getting in the way. The above tests will be quick and should get you the results that you need, with what you have. The tests will also tell us if something is wrong with the Soundtrack Track, as it seems to be killing the AV's Audio on Audio Track 1.
    Good luck, and please report,
    Hunt

  • Audio drops out when burning DVD

    Hello -
I have imported itunes to play behind the video clips - it plays well on screen and through Quicktime Player, but after burning to DVD either through toast or iDVD the camera audio is there but not the itunes. Any suggestions??

    Hi CC:
    Welcome to discussions!
Were the songs purchased from iTunes Store? If so, they are most likely protected and you will need to burn them to an Audio CD and import from that.

  • Audio drops out of movie but not menu

I have an iMovie that I burned to disc successfully via iDVD. Then, I went back to the movie, made one small text change to a title page, resaved, and tried to burn again. Since then, I have lost the audio every time I try and burn the DVD again.
What's odd is that the movie audio drops out, but the menu audio is still there. Also, when I 'preview' the movie in iDVD, the audio is working just fine. I have five songs in the movie.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks so much!
(These are iMovie 6 and iDVD 6 btw.)

After you made the change in iMovie, did iDVD ask you to update the project?
First go to iMovie and "extract audio" This is often a catch-all for some audio issues. Close iMovie.
Then go back to iDVD, open the project - if iDVD asks (and it should) choose "update" Then "delete encoded assets"
Then use "Save as Disk Image". This will do everything but burn your DVD - it will save the encoded project to a .img file. After iDVD is finished encoding, double click on the .img file, and it will mount like a drive. Use the DVD player application (it may launch on its own) to view the image.
If this .img file has good audio, then burn the image with Disk Utility (in your Applications/utiltiies folder - see Disk Utility help for how to burn the .img file)
If this still has audio that drops out, I'd suggest building a new iDVD project with the edited move.

  • Audio drop out in Encore AND Premiere

Strange problem. I am trying to burn a dvd with Encore. All the files play fine in QT, all the audio is there. once in Encore, it randomly picks clips to not play audio AT ALL. Sometimes it will play part of a clip then drop out audio. I have re installed and tried several tricks, like bringing files into Premiere Pro to render out a different file type. Now my premiere wont play the audio randomly either and the file produced has no audio! all other audio/video apps running fine. Not sure if its a Adobe Production Studio problem or a glitch in my system, thou as I said, rest of system works fine.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!
    Steve

Well, thanks for reply but I got it to work after several work arounds, thou my Adobe products still seem to be working strange(Not opening as I closed them, etc.)
So, foe giggles, here was what I was working with.
I digitized some footage from a digibeta into my Avid where I exported Quick Time reference files to be used in After Effects.
In After Effects I exported Quick Time Movies with Blackmagic codec,8bit, with 4800k audio, uncompresed. All where NTSC 29.97. Files play in Quick Time/Windows media player no prob.
Installed Blackmagic codec on my home system for the final build with Encore2.0 DVD and thats when all the fun started. Encore would play files fine but then start to randomly drop out audio at burn.
To solve this I pulled QT's into Premiere Pro2.0 and exported WAV files to swap out for in Encore. This almost worked until Premiere started to mimic the Encore problems with random audio drop out.
After several retarts of the programs ( they would both have ASIO driver problems and quit audio. I replaced my driver, still same problem. whew!)I got the files all rendered.
Wow, still with me? Thanks! so long story I finally got the QT re rendered in Premiere to DV files that worked fine in Encore.Still think I have a system bug or somethig due to the fact these programs and Photoshop too are acting "wonky", crashing out or locking up, etc.
Thanks for the intrest!! any suggestions on system checks would be great!

  • Audio drop-out in FCPX with 1920x1080 & 2048x1240p @ 24p (codec Apple ProRes 4444 (Linear PCM))24p

    Hi all...
    I'm new to this forum.
Is there an audio issue (drop-outs) with FCPX (ver 10.1.2) for 1920x1080 24p, 1080p HD & 2048x1240 24p (2k) - note: films in FCPX are in codec Apple ProRes 4444, Linear PCM?
Very recently I've been working on a show reel and I have imported a file (short film) to snip out a section to add to the show reel.
I set the project to the film's settings i.e.. "set based on first video clip"...(1920x1080 24p, 1080p HD).  When I play the film in FCPX the audio "hic-cups"..."dips to silence"..."drops-out" briefly (up to 0.5 secs in duration) and very frequently all the way through (approx 15 mins long film)...note: audio set is at stereo 48kHz. The audio monitors on the right hand side also show the dip taking place (if it's a long enough drop-out).
I also have a version of the film in 2048x1240 24p at 2k, again Stereo 48kHz...and this does the same audio "drop-out" all the way through.  I'm unsure what other formats will create this problem i.e. higher or lower aspect ratios than those above.
Is this a software and/or OS issue?  Or a hardware issue?  Or both!?
    About This iMac details:
    iMac 27 inch: OS X ver 10.9.4
Processor: 3.5 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory: 32 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M 4096 MB
    Fusion Drive 3.12 TB
Final Cut Pro X was bought & installed with this iMac back in Feb 2014
    FCPX version: 10.1.2
Note also:  I used Compressor (ver 4.1.2) to convert the files (movies) above to Apple ProRes 422 HQ, Linear PCM and the issue disappeared - the audio and visuals played with no problems.  All films play with no issue when opened in QT player.  They are also fine when exporting from FCPX.  The issue only occurs (as far as I can tell) within FCPX when editing or playing the audio there.
    Has anyone encountered this problem?
    Kind Regards,
    Hakan

    Hi Luis,
    Thank you for that.
Seems like you have a point about the "hardware" issue.  I'm unsure (new to it all) at what data rate my (er...wonderful) fusion drive provides FCPX for smooth playback - or where I can find that info on the iMac.  Playing back movies in the 422 HQ codec seems to have no issues (when I converted the movie from 4444 HQ).
But playing the full 4444 HQ, the picture is smooth, but the audio has these drop-outs - even with "best performance" option ticked. Interesting that the audio suffers, not the picture in FCPX - so not sure what's going on there. I also read - perhaps - that to play a smooth ProRes 4444 HQ movie in FCPX the data rate should be min of 500 Mbs (based upon About Apple ProRes) for HD movies and up (i.e. 2k).  ProRes 422 HQ needs a data rate of 220 Mbs - so that is my upper-limit to smooth video&audio playback with the current system I have, I guess.
Does anyone recommend a fast USB3 or Thunderbolt drive (500Mbs+) where I am able to run 4444HQ movies with no issues to picture or sound (away from the fusion drive)?

  • Audio drops out when following video to external monitor

When I play a sequence to an external monitor, the audio drops out for 2 to 3 seconds after changes on the video track, and then pops back in with no interuption in video output. It doesn't happen at every cut, but it's consistent in the places it does. I thought it might be caused by the size the project has become. So I exported the sequence as a quicktime file, closed the lage project, opened a new one and exported the new file and played it and it happened again, even though there were no edits. It doesn't occur at all when I turn off external video, and play it on the computer. I connected a new firewire from the computer to my DV deck, restarted the computer, but it keeps happening.
Is it that the dramatic change in color, light and compostion crowding out the audios ability to follow the video through the wire?
I'm completely stumped. The next step will be to open the computer and try to blow any excess dust out. I do this periodically anyway, and my last time was two months ago, so I'd be surprised if it works.
Maybe the G4 with 2G processing power can no longer handle the program, but it shows no sign of stuggle in any other way.
My clients are starting to grow restless.

Thank you so much X & Paul, for your suggestions. Although they didn't solve the problem, they kept me hopeful enough to continue my quest for an answer. After exhausting all effort to find the problem in the audio, I decided to focus on the video. So, I tried correcting the excess luma on the consolidated QT movie, and suddenly the problem was fixed. Because of the different levels of correction I'd need for each and every cut in the original sequence, and the precious time it would take, I'd planned to save it for the color correction stage, a mere 2 weeks away. I remembered how illegal white would often cause the image on some monitors, specifically consumer TVs, to waver for a second. But this was happening all the way back to the DV deck's audio meter, so I never expected it to be a luma issue.
I assume that the outdating capacity of my G4 played a part, but I wanted to write back with my thanks, and to impart my illuminated wisdom to the next perplexed soul.
    Thanks again,

  • IDVD '08 Slideshow Audio Drop Out

    Hi
I've recently upgraded to IDVD '08 & produced a slideshow of 301 pictures with music. I get a moments audio drop out at each 100th picture. I know this to be a problem when the disc is played on a DVD player, but not on a computer. I had hoped that by upgrading to IDVD '08 the problem would have been eliminated. Can anyone advise if there is a way of solving this issue, other than producing separate slideshows of 99 picture & less.
Any help would be much appreciated.

The behavior you described above is actually normal for iDvd for anything over 99 images per slideshow. Not much you can do about it short of creating multiple slideshows as you mentioned above. That or making your slideshow as one long QT movie but you may notice a quality loss.
Or you can try a few other apps like:
    http://www.boinx.com/fotomagico/overview/
    http://www.lqgraphics.com/software/phototomovie.php
Roxio Toast has a slideshow option as well. You might want to look into this.
DVDSP might give you slightly better results but then again it's much more money and takes weeks/months to learn as opposed to a few hours / days.

  • Audio Drop Out

No matter how many minutes of audio or photos (believe me I tried from 2 minutes to 25 minutes of audio and 10-150 photos) that I use in DVD 6, the audio drops out for 3 seconds, always about 1 minute before the finale. Is anyone having the same problem.
I tried magic slideshow, all combinations and still...audio drops out.
When I used the 99 photo limit with the fit to audio minutes, nothing like this happened.
If there is a fix, please let me know.
    Thank You all

    Welcome to discussions, Bob:)
What is the source of the audio where the drop-out occurs? Purchased iTunes?
If so, burn the audio to an audio CD and import from that.
Also, how much free space do you have on the iBook?

  • Audio drops out of Premiere Pro CC2014

Working on an older Mac Pro running Mavericks, the audio drops out suddenly. It can be from initial launch of a new project, or one in progress while you're in the middle of an edit session. And when I say "drops out", it literally goes entirely away, no output to speakers and no internal metering within Premiere. The only indication that you actually have audio on a clip is the drawn waveforms on the files themselves in the Source window or on the Timeline, plus you know the media that you're working with. I've tried to move the media cache files to a different location, delete them and make the project re-conform audio and indexed files, but the only thing that really works is to shut down completely and let it sit for about 10 mins. Too quick of a re-boot and it comes up the way you shut it down, dysfunctional, and a restart definitely will not work. Any ideas anyone?

    TGlen,
Can I get the specifics of your Mac and any third party hardware that is connected including drives and capture hardware? FAQ: What information should I provide when asking a question on this forum?
    Thanks,
    Kevin

  • Audio Drops Out

A tiny key piece of audio drops out at start of project. Audio meters show it’s there. Sometimes it plays ok but no matter how much I mixdown it goes silent after applying a reverberation filter. Sometimes there's no sound even without the filter.
Read about the Firewire vs Real-Time. Am using Firewire with DV device. When I shut down FCX, disconnect the DV and reboot, both Firewire and Real-Time grayed out.
I’m ready to burn this 25 min project to DVD but this piece of audio must be in!
    ANY suggestions welcome.
    Lee

    Thanks for the input, Al.
OK. . . . .this is what happened. You were right. I finally located an earlier version of the project in the autovault.
I learned that my audio voiceover clip was a mono track and because the project was set for stereo, the voiceover could not be heard. Does that make sense? In a bizarre way, it does to me. I could see it on the audio meter, just couldn't hear it. Adjusting the "Spread" to 0 did the trick. (I thought I had tried that, but maybe not in the correct way or something. I still don't know.) Anyway, the audio clip could be heard perfectly after adjusting Spread. whew
Trashing your Preferences should not have deleted
anything from FCE or the Scratch Disc. Repairing
permissions can be done at anytime, it's a thing that
should be done regularly as a maintenance routine.
Glad to know this. . . .thought it all had to be done in a certain order.
Another question: If you were trying to burn a DVD,
what was behind enabling Firewire out?
Who knows? Quite honestly, I was trying every and any thing that might bring the sound back.
So all's well that ends well. Project is burned, labeled and looks good.
    Thanks so much.

  • Audio drops out while video continues to play just after making a cut!

I've been using Adobe Premiere Pro for a few months now and I use it to edit my YouTube gameplay videos. Here is everything I am doing in Adobe Pr:
    1. Create new project
    2. import my raw gameplay video (m2ts file)
    3. import my wave sound file (my commentary)
    4. Put them on the time line and play the video (it works then)
    5. make a cut somewhere and the GAMEPLAY audio drops out not the video or my commentary.
The same thing happens in Adobe Premiere Elements as well. Should I convert my m2ts files to MP4 or AVI or something??? Please help

  • Audio drops out when scrolling playlists after upgrading new version of 9.2

    Hi Folks,
Has anyone noticed an issue when scrolling the playlists in Itunes now that the audio drops out for a second.
I use an external USB audio device by Native Instruments called the Audio Kontrol 1.
I have watched the processes on my PC and when I scroll up and down on the playlist. Something spikes causing audio to not play for a second.
I am hoping to fix this somehow as I do not want to roll back (not even sure if you can). I also have heard with dual core processors that occasionally audio can get stopped as other processes take over where in single core processors everything cued up (any truth to that).
Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.
