Audio dub volume

I've grappled with this problem since PP2.
I am making a simple movie of a recent holiday trip and want to add an audio track to my timeline (to correct the wrong things I say in real time.)
I am using a Presonus Firebox firewire mixer and record to just below clipping.
The audio waveform on the newly recorded track looks about the same amplitude as the one on the captured track, but the volume on playback is too low.
I've used the audio mixer to boost the new audio track but I can't get a good result.
Can anyone help?  Thanks.

I record onto the timeline at the maximum gain before clipping and get what seems to be a healthy audio track.
But when I play the project, the recorded audio track is much lower volume than the audio track in the clip captured from the camcorder.
I can increase the volume in the Audio Mixer, but it just doesn't have the same quality - even when I put on appropriate reverb, etc.
It seems to have no headroom.
I've been thinking I should try recording in Audition and importing, but thats a long way around for a simple voice-over.
The bottom line is I cannot do good voice-overs in CS5.5    It seems easy in some of the consumer editors such as Powerdirector.
Is the problem that I am recording onto the timeline rather than recording a clip and dragging it onto the timeline?
I'd appreciate any help on how to do good and easy voice-overs.  Thanks.

  • "Audio Mix" volume settings premiere elements 10 not "sticking"

The "Audio Mix" volume settings that I set after adding a soundtrack to video in premiere elements 10 have stopped working and are no longer "sticky". I am running premiere elements on a Macbook pro with about 100GB free disc space and 8MB RAM. The volume settings adjusted using "Audio Mix" would previously "stick" as adjusted. I have not altered anything in how I adjust the volumes but "Audio Mix" has suddenly stopped functioning.  Both the soundtrack and main captured audio track maintain full volume despite adjustment. I have tried to restart the computer and reload the program to no avail.

    Correct.
I used to be able to adjust the volume with the Audio Mixer "on the fly" with the video playing and it would stay adjusted (as depicted in the tutorials). This no longer happens. The Mixer used to generate keyframes automatically. It no longer appears to generate keyframes and the volume remains at baseline for all the tracks.
I have not tried to manually set the volume level by dragging it and creating audio keyframes on it yet. I will try this but the videos are long with multiple fade ins and fade outs and this would likely be too laborious to accomplish.

  • How to normalize all audio clip volumes using iMovie (2013)?

Normalizing clip volumes was very easily accomplished in previous versions of iMovie, but this feature appears to have been deleted in iMovie (2013), a.k.a. version 10.0.3.  My project is a simple slideshow with songs added from iTunes, but the volume levels of the songs are all different, and it would be nice to be able to automatically normalize the volumes for all of the songs.  Any advice would be appreciated!

The normalize volume feature is indeed gone.  You have to adjust manually, selecting the audio track of each song in turn.

  • Audio input volume in System Preferences, but not Mainstage

    Hi,
I am trying to get Mainstage 2 to work with an audio interface (TASCAM US-122 MKII). I've installed the drivers for the interface, and it shows up on my system both in System Preferences under Audio and in Mainstage. When I go to system preferences -> Audio and play an instrument through the interface, volume registers on the level meter. But if I go to Mainstage and select this interface as my input, I get no volume levels registering at the input.
I've been trying to get this to work for going on six hours now, googling and installing and restarting to no avail. I have the same problem with Garageband too. Has anyone had this happen to them, that an audio interface seems to be recognized by the operating system but not by Mainstage/Garageband?
    Thanks,
    - Nick

I can't help, other than to say this happened to me today with the same hardware, only with GarageBand.
I recorded bass tracks this morning -- no problem. This afternoon, though, every time I plugged in the Tascam GarageBand went silent, even though the system input shows sound coming in.

  • Audio mixer volume problem

I'm working with CS3. My timeline has two audio tracks. Track one is the clip verbal audio, that track is fine. Track 2 is the music that I want to fade in and out at certain chapter intervals. After adjusting all the volumes in track 2, when I go back to listen to the final product, my volume adjuster button keeps popping back to the bottom, no volume. When I did the adjusting I did it in "write" and then immediately saved it, but it keeps going down on its own. There must be a simple solution.

I've always had this problem in Premiere 6.5 too. I simply refuse to use the goofy audio mixer. I either do everything with envelopes, or if it's something much more complex I'll export to Audition and make my changes there.

  • Audio: voiceover volume very low; & can't permanently delete original audio

I'm finishing off a project started by a colleague. In a number of clips, the speed of the footage has been reduced to 25%. The original audio is still embedded in those clips, but is not used and has been muted. I want to record a voiceover, and am using a USB microphone on my iMac. The recording levels work fine when I test them in GarageBand, but when I record the voiceover in iMovie, it's extremely quiet. I've tried increasing the volume to 200%; I've tried turning ducking on and off; and I've even recorded the voiceover in GarageBand, exported it to iTunes, where it sounds fine. But the minute I import it into my project, the volume goes right down.
I've tried detaching and deleting the original audio track from the relevant clips, in case this is causing problems (because the speed of the audio track is also reduced to 25%). But even if I empty my trash, when I go back to the clips, I can still detach the audio, so it hasn't really been deleted.
So. Can anybody suggest a solution to the low volume, and whether this might have anything to do with the speed reduction on the originally embedded audio?

I booted into Windows XP on Bootcamp, and it seems to have the same problem. I also tried the backup of my Tiger system on my external hard drive, and again, the same problem. I tried resetting PMU, but it's still the same. Again, for some reason, my internal speakers are working fine, but when I plug in headphones, the volume is really low even when I turn the volume all the way up. I tried this on iTunes, youtube, and the click sound when you turn up the volume from the keyboard. I can't hear any of them unless I have the volume turned all the way up, and even then, I can barely hear the sound.

  • Solved: Attention T510 owners: Audio / sound volume goes up and down

    Hi all,
I am a new owner of a T510, and have discovered the audio goes up and down when listening to music through the speakers, running on battery. I would like to get in contact with other T510 owners, who can test if their unit has the same problem - try this:
    1. Check all the settings in the SmartAudio control panel (using the newest driver) - making sure no EQ is set, nor VOIP settings or anything like that.
    2. Check that no plugin was loaded in the sound control options (I am using Windows 7, 32 bit).
Now try and play this youtube song, and listen to the volume at around 40 seconds when the lead singer begins - does your audio volume go up and then down again when he stops? If you listen to the complete song, it goes up and down some more times.

    Edit  #1:
I can unfortunately now add, that the problem is also there when using the AC adapter. It is so **bleep** annoying the volume fluctuates, and it is VERY easy to hear on the above link. Hoping to hear from other T510 users what their findings is. For information I can tell I am using the power plan called "Maximum Performance", in the power manager from Lenovo. The T510 model is a 4349-4JG.

    Edit #2:
I have now had time to test it some more, using another HDD (didnt want to reinstall windows on my SSD, hehe) - and can hereby say that it seems to be a bug in the audio driver / SmartAudio control panel. Clean Windows 7, 32 bit, has the problems - but when you disable the VOIP function in the Smart Audio control panel, the problem disappears (actually it was just the VOIP function that was active before). If you then try to enable the VOIP function again, the "problem" does not come back (hence the bug comes into action now). After this test, I put my SSD back into the laptop, and tried to mess with the VOIP functions (again, had already tried to mess with it), and it did not do anything (hence the bug is active now). Therefore I reinstalled the audio driver - tried to check if the problem was there, it was. Then I did the same procedure as on the other HDD, tried to disable the VOIP (before I installed anything else and such!), and the problem is now gone. And the result now is that when I try and enable the VOIP function again, the problem does not come back (hence the bug is now active) = me happy
    In short terms:
The bug can either have the VOIP enabled and you can not disable it, or it can be the other way around - it cant be enabled. To "turn" the bug around, reinstall the audio driver :-)

    Hi,
Ive been having this problem with my Compaq CQ60-615DX for almost a year now. When im listening to music I can hear the audio going up and down through it. One sec itll be loud and  the next its like the audio being turned down (but the volume bar does not move). I also have SmartAudio with the Conexant High Definition. So, I see that you have figured it out. Ive tried to understand what you said but im not very literate with computers. Could you explain how to stop it step by step? I would appreciate it. Thanks.

  • Beat audio low volume through speakers but okay through headphones

My beats audio works fine through my headphones but the volume through the speakers is not very loud.  I am teaching a class where I need to have the volume loud enough for people to hear it across a small room, not huddled around my laptop. I have a HP pavilion dv6, windows 7

    Hi trirainbow,
For what is described in your post, it sounds as though it is probably functioning as designed. I have tested a similar notebook in a small room, and need to use external powered speakers for it to be audible. Double check all the volumes to make sure that they are maxed, and what program are you using for your presentation?
    Thank you.

  • DVD - audio track volume too low; can adjust??

I've got a commercial movie DVD and when I play it back using the default Apple DVD player, I notice that at any given time, the background music audio track is very loud, while the dialog is extremely quiet. Before I decide that it's a bad DVD and needs to be returned, I wonder if I'm missing some setting (Dolby or whatever): is there any way to bring up the volume of specific individual tracks from a DVD?
    Mike

In DVD player preferences, Disc Setup, uncheck the box "Disable Dolby dynamic range compression".
That may help. If it's already unchecked there's nothing more you can do.

  • FCP Audio 2 volume

Lookig for answers here. Currently I am transferring 1 inch magnetic videotape to IMX format (in a quicktime wrapper). All of the 1 inch reels have come from a broadcast company to be archived and digiitsed. Occasionally the sound levels on playback on some of the digitised reels are quite low.  I've discovered that if I import the IMX file into FCP timeline and then hide Audio 2 the sound suddenly increases in volume when I unhide Audio 2 the sound decreases in volume. Any ideas why?
    Thanks
    Martin

    Hi Tom
Thanks for the reply. It's given me some idea of what could be going on.
That the problem lies with the original recording does make sense. Every reel is accompanied with a technicians report and in many instances it is reported that only one of the audio tracks is to be used for TX (in all cases its Audio 1 for TX only). Prior to digitisation I manually set the audio levels using a Dolby SR/A card connected to SONY BVH-3000 VTR. So im sure that the audio levels on playback are correct - its certainly load enough!  But as you say I would never hear that problem untill I've transferred the recording to the digital.
So if audio 2 is not for TX it will cancel out audio 1 making the overall audio quiet - is that correct? This isn't a problem because I now know  I can delete audio 2 and copy audio 1 in its stead for public requests.
    Thanks
    Martin

  • Audio track volume low?

I Bus recorded my midi EXS drum track by routing it to Bus1 and by choosing Bus1 as an Input on the Audio track.
Problem now is that the Audio track is not loud enough. I normalized it using the Functions menu in the sample editor window. But when I play the audio region in the arrange window there is absolutely no volume increase?
    Please help.

It's an old school assumption to always think the maximum level will lead to better results. With 24-Bit we have a lot of headroom and the resolution of Audio even at lower levels is appropriate.
Normalizing will alter the waveforms, add the empty bits at the top to the bottom of the file thus raising the level as well as the noise floor.

Mastering Audio by Bob Katz is a good book for these kind of topics...
I actually just made a test with some sine waves, the normalized sine wave had 0,3% of DC offset added whereas the original file had 0% DC offset.
Also in RX the spectrums of the two files look a little different:
2 khz sinewave at -12 dB
    2 khz sinewave normalized

  • Firewire Audio Device Volume Control not Working

I have a Presonus Firebox which has served me well from 10.3.9 to 10.4.10.
I installed 10.4.11 last week, but after the reboot the Firebox would not sync with my G5. I switched Firewire ports and it synced back up. But now I cannot control the master volume on the Firebox using the MAC keyboard controls or the control in Audio Midi.
Next, frustrated, I upgraded to Leopard and have the same symptoms. Sound works and records and syncs, but I cannot control the volume via the OS or software (which worked fine from 10.3 to 10.4.10) I have a Lacie D2 connected via FW800 and a Lacie DVD burner connected via its own separate Fw400 port from the Firebox.
    Any ideas?

Try performing a system repair using PC Companion as this will often fix issues - This will factory reset your phone and erase all data so best to backup before you begin
Switch off your phone and unplug from Pc (Hold volume up and power for around 10 seconds)
Start PC Companion and select Support zone then Update my phone/tablet then in Blue Repair my phone/tablet and follow the on screen instructions - When prompted connect your phone still switched off holding volume down or back button - This should start the repair or reformat process
If you are using Windows 8/8.1 or a 64bit operating system then adjust the settings for PC Companion and run in compatibility mode and chose Windows 7 or XP

  • Audio recording volume

I am recording audio to slides in Captivate 6. Everything was going fine, then after about 19 slides the volume gradually decreased until it reached a very low level. Any ideas what causes this?

    Hello,
    Welcome to Adobe Forums.
Do you have MAC or Windows computer ?
Which version of CP6 are you using ? (Click on Help -> About Adobe Captivate)
Does it happen on a specific project or with a test project as well (Blank project)?

  • Audio out volume when Macbook is music server

I have moved my Late-2007 Macbook running 10.7.5 to be a music server.
This computer has a single analog/digital audio out/headphone jack.
I have a a 3.5 mm audio jack that splits into left-right RCA jacks which are plugged into my Yamaha stereo receiver. I guess since this is also a headphone port, the level of the output depends on the volume setting on the Mac.
When I turned it all the way down, I had to turn the Yamaha almost full blast to hear it.
At medium Mac volume it seemed to sound quite good through the Yamaha, which only needed a volume similar to, say, the CD player would take.
Is there any downside -- distortion or damage to the stereo receiver or bookshelf speakers -- to turning up the volume on the Mac? How far should I turn it up and/or how much of the volume should be made by the Yamaha?
If I get an external DAC to run between the Macbook and receiver and use a digital optical cable plugged into the Macbook's audio out, will it revert to digital line out with no volume control by the Macbook?

    fixed it with insomniax
