Audio editor plugin for logic 9?

Hi,
I've started to use Logic's audio editor and after alot of use finding it slow and cumbersome. Its good for engineers but not musicians. It seems tedious just to cut and slice a track around and move add effects. Like say you want to up the gain of a section you highlight it go to gain but can't seem to listen to the track and hear the difference you make as you up the gain. You have to change the gain process it then listen to it if your not happy undo and do it again.
You can do all the above very easy in Cubase, Cakewalk sonar and adobe sound booth. I'm wondering if I've missed something? If not is there a plugin you can get that will make this easy to do etc or is it to maybe start looking at another program?
Cheers
Joe

I know the Waveform editor leaves a bit to be desired, and I personally tend to use it as little as possible.
But you can raise and lower the gain of a region very simply in the arrange window, select the region you wish to alter and go to the inspector on the top left of the arrange window. You will see a "Gain" entry there, click on the number and drag up or down to raise or lower the gain of that region.
Just thought this might help.

  • FREEEEE struts/jsp editor plugin for Eclipse

    Hi guys,
I am tired of searching for struts/jsp editor plugin for Eclipse. I tried the trail version for Exadel, My eclipse, Lomboz, but none of them are good enough. I dont want to pay for a plugin.
So I downloaded Netbeans IDE which has good support for struts. But I dont want to change my Eclipse IDE because its much better.
In case you are already using a good struts/jsp editor plugin for Eclipse then please advice me ASAP.
I dont want to type up the code like <html:text or wait for runtime compilation to realize that there is a problem in the syntax. Wouldnt it be a lot better if the IDE help us reduce the development time.

  • JSP editor plugin for Eclipse

    Hello,
I use now a trial version of www.myeclipseide.com for the JSP editor. It is much better then a classic text editor but I was wondering if there is a preferred JSP editor plugin for the PDK.
Do you have any good experiences or tips with other plugins?
    Thanks in advance

Lomboz, which is an open source J2EE plugin for eclipse has a rather good JSP view. You can get it from http://forge.objectweb.org/project/showfiles.php?group_id=97

  • Harmonization/Chord tool plugin for Logic?

    Hello everyone,
I'm a saxophone player by trade, and unfortunately my piano skills are sub-par, which I feel is hurting my compositions. I can hear all sorts of chord progressions in my head, but finding them on the keyboard proves difficult, and by the time I find the first few chords, I've sometimes lost all sense of the progression/composition. Its worse when I dont have any ideas in my head, as exploring chords on the piano is an exercise in frustration!
So I'm wondering, are there any type of "chord aids" or composition tools on the market to help me write music quicker without being a piano virtuoso? I'm currently using real guitar in chord mode to figure out chord progressions, but it can also be a limitation to only hear things through an accoustic guitar with no sustain. My goal is to be able to compose something, and figure out what I did/how to play it later, rather than being limited by what I can play on the keyboard. I guess this is why composers still write with pen and paper...but who writes progressive rock on paper!
I'm of course working on developing my "straight to paper" skills, as well as my piano abilities, but in the mean time, are there any tools out there to aid in this, like a chord tool for logics environment that will automatically play chords out of single notes ala real guitar? Or even some type of harmonization plugin for midi data? There has to be something out there to help us non-piano players, right?
Thanks in advance for your help/reply.

That was a great explanation of dropping center panned tracks out of a stereo mix, although one may hear some vocal reverb splash way back in the mix. I'll have to try this and see what the vocals are covering up.

  • Best EQ plugin for Logic?

the sony oxford plugs aren't compatible from what I can tell...
has anyone used the URS plugs? I know they have AU/VST versions available but apparently you need digi's ilok to use them...
    metric halo's channelstrip?
what are your favorite third party plugins for LE??
    thanks

I guess you could process elements 1 or 2 at a time through your outboard and then record them back into the mix. Or record through this equipment and don't compress so much in the mix.
If I had that kind of gear I would probably be recording through it mainly. Maybe using it a tiny bit in the mix but not much.
I just don't trust the software behind these plugins. There have to be a lot of the same commands/algorythms in use, it can't actually be that hard to make a peice of software to reduce a wordlength by a certain amount when it reaches a certain amount. It must be really tough to perfectly model an actual piece of hardware.
It still seems weird to me that this is what companies aim to do, in the digital realm you can make compressors which can have 0ms attacks and effect the volume of something without affecting the tone. Still no one has done this, companies just want the software to sound like hardware. WHY NOT JUST USE HARDWARE.

  • Awesome Plugins for Logic???

    Hey guys.
I'm loving logic pro8. I've ditched reason for it too. Sorry reason!
Although the sounds are PHAT, and the sound bank is extensive. I'd like to install some plugin synths. I understand that logic does not support VST? What formats does it support? And can anyone recommend the BEST plugin synths available? I don't want to make clutter with stuff I won't use.
    Thanks so much guys!

No point in rehashing the same old plugin threads...

OSX has Core Audio, and the standard Core Audio plugin format is AudioUnits - it's the only format Logic supports for plugins.

  • Playing DVDs in 5.1 With Firewire Audio Interface Connected for Logic Pro

This is exactly the same q as asked by plantwebguy in July 06, link
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=2696970#2696970...
I'm struggling to get an answer on this anywhere... I have Logic Pro running 5.1 Surround Mixes on a g5, using a Metric Halo Mobile IO Firewire audio interface - its 6 analog outs are connected to a M Audio LX4 powered surround system. It all works great - until... the problem is when I need to listen to DVDs with 5.1 soundtracks (for reference), or even HD trailers (with 5.1 soundtracks). With the Mobile IO selected as audio interface, DVDs only play in stereo. I think this is because the 5.1 soundtrack is only output thru the optical out - but connecting the optical out to the Mobile IO and selecting 'Digital out' on the g5 brings silence.. Im told this is because the MIO's optical in wont decode 5.1. I'm interested to hear from anyone with a Pro Audio interface - like a MOTU etc - who needs to switch between mixing their own music in 5.1 and then listening to DVDs in 5.1.. I cant be the first, surely?
Plantwebguy said he solved his issue with VLC. Do we know if VLC willl decode 5.1 and then output it to the Interface via Firewire? I've searched the net for a Pro Audio interface with (1) 6 analog outs & mic inputs etc (2) firewire connection and (3) optical in that reads AC3/5.1 etc (rather than just ADAT).... nada. Sorry to be long-winded but I cant get a solution anywhere..
    Thanks in advance

  • What are some good vocal plugins for logic?

just looking for plugins tha give me good industry sound

Waves makes some decent "all-in-one/single knob" type stuff, but Logic is more than capable of the same thing. I'd suggest rolling up your sleeves and digging into Logic's EQ, Compressor, Reverb and Delay plugins. You can achieve the same thing. As to the "industry sound" - that's good ears and years of practice, and there are no shortcuts for that...

  • How come I don't have any plugins for Logic Pro X?

Hi! So, I recently bought and installed Logic Pro X, and I was excited to use the different plugins it had to offer,. But to my surprise, it seems there arent any plugins besides the ones displayed. When I click in the "plugin area" to open it up, all I see is this. Ive been trying to figure out what I did wrong in the installation process. I'm pretty new to the Apple scene, so I'd really appreciate the help .. Thank you! Heres what comes up when I click in the "plugin area". For example, I don't have the EXS24 or any other plugins of that nature. I have no idea what to do.

    Also...
    1) Make sure you have downloaded all the additional content.... via the menu option Logic Pro X/Download Additional Content
    2) Make sure you turn on all the advanced features of LPX by going to the Advanced tab of LPX's preferences.... so LPX isn't running in the "Garageband Pro" mode....

  • Need your help choosing between 2 audio/midi interface for logic

Hi, new member here. I just signed-up just to ask for your recommendations.
I am looking to buy either the Cakewalk UA-4fx (http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/UA4FX) or Tascam US-122mkII (http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/US122mk2).
Do you have any advice on which one to get (or a third alternative if you know something that's similar but better)?
I'm mainly looking to record from my Roland Fantom X keyboard to my Macbook (using Logic Pro). The effects/filters on the Cakewalk device is not that important to me (since I can use software effects), but the quality of sound is the most important. Also, ease-of-use and compatibility with Logic Pro is important. The device also must include MIDI-in/MIDI-out in addition to 1/4 inch direct line in for my synth. (I plan on using Midi-In/Midi-out with MainStage in Logic Studio). Not looking to spend too much more than $100.
I think I read in a review that even though the Cakewalk UA-4fx has 2 inputs, it can only record 1 at a time. Is the same true of the Tascam or can it record 2 simultaneous tracks?
But in short, sound quality AND compatibility with Logic Pro and MainStage are the main concerns. Does anyone have advice on choosing between the 2 or a third option if you know of one?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hello -
It's been suggested to avoid, if possible, USB-based audio devices. My humble suggestion? I'd consider MOTU products. I own three MOTU audio devices (2408-MK3, 828-MK3 & 828-MK2) and all work just fine. The 828-MK3 has both midi and audio inputs & outputs (including ADAT inputs/outputs).
Other people will, no doubt, suggest audio devices from other companies. All probably get the job done well. But if you're thinking about recording a lot of instruments at the same time, it is my understanding that it is best to avoid USB-based devices.
Good luck with your search and your decision.
